Latest Safari download?

Anyone else getting this error message while upgrading Safari:  The operation couldn’t be completed. (NSURLErrorDomain error -1012.)(-1012)?

Download and run the combo updater then see if you can update Safari.

    Hello,
There are no files like that in that folder (com.apple.safari).  They all have long numbers with .jpeg or .png at the end.  That's what I meant by I cannot find any files like those mentioned in all the helps I read today.  BTW-it's still crashing - no particular pattern to it at all.
The only two things I have downloaded recently is a new version of Flash and a Mac-driven update to Office.
Thank you very much for your attempt to help us.

  • Safari Download links not working, opening new page

Hi,  I am not to happy with the latest version of Safari, and it has made one problem worse.  When I click on a download link, more often than not, instead of getting a file to download, it opens a new page and appears to be loading the file as raw code.  I will see in the location bar at the top something like:
download.php or FileName.zip, and it cycles a while until the full file is loaded but does not show anything by a blank page...   Before this version I could right click and choose save linked file As and it would usually work, but now that doesn't work.
Anyone else seeing this problem or have a solution?
I have speed downloader but I have it turned off for sites that were problematic, but  Safari doesn' seem to use it anyway, because when it works, it opens a Safari download window, not SD
    Thanks
    Jeff

Quit Safari if it's running. Move the file
    Library/Preferences/com.apple.Safari.plist
in your home folder to the Desktop. Test again. If downloading now works as expected, then that's where the problem lies. Otherwise, it's still somewhere in your Safari settings, but I wouldn't know where. You'd have to ask the "Speed Downloader" developer what to do next.

I have just installed Snow Leopard 10.6.3 and want to update my Safari 4.0.4 to the latest version.  However, the latest Safari version needs at least Snow Leopard 10.6.8.  What can I do, please?

Go to the Apple Icon, Top Left of your Screen and Run Software Update...
    Or go here  >  http://support.apple.com/kb/DL1399
and download and Install the 10 6 8 Combo Update...
Be sure to Restart your Mac after the Install.

  • IMac won't restart after latest Safari update.

I just downloaded the latest Safari update (5.1.2) on my iMac (27", i7, latest Snow leopard).  The download (via software update) and install went smooth but when asked to restart, it hangs up at the gray screen...after the blue screen/start up chime, but before the apple logo appears. I tried shutting down and rebooting but it keeps hanging at the same place.
Thank you in advance for any successful solutions!
    Kind regards,
    Mark

    Hi all,
    Thank you for the replies...
I did manage to solve the problem right away by following the instructions offered by Apple:  Remove all USB cables, then do a hard reboot.  Then to isolate the cable causing the problem, plug in one at a time and reboot until the problem happens again.  In my case, the issue was caused by a Flip Camera that was plugged into a USB hub.
I hope this helps those with a similar problem.
    Regards,
    Mark

  • Spent some time trying to find a Safari download site with no success.  Where is the iMac Safari download site?

Spent some time trying to find a Safari download site with no success.  I found lots of Safari sites but no Safari download site.  Where is the iMac Safari download site?

(The following does not apply to users of Lion OS 10.7 or later)
If your Safari keeps crashing, or if you are updating Safari (or just have) and it is misbehaving:
N.B. Never delete Safari, never run it under Rosetta, don't use proxy settings, and don't change the application's name or move it from the top level of the Applications Folder to a sub-folder.
(If you prefer to download updates via Software Update in the Apple menu (which would ensure that the correct version for your Mac was being downloaded), it is not recommended to allow SU to install major (or even minor) updates automatically. Set Software Update to just download the updater without immediately installing it. There is always the possibility that the combined download and install (which can be a lengthy process) might be interrupted by a power outage or your cat walking across the keyboard, and an interrupted install will almost certainly cause havoc. Once it is downloaded, you can install at a time that suits you. You should make a backup copy of the updater on a CD in case you ever need a reinstall. Alternatively you can download Safari directly:
Safari 4.1.3 for Tiger can be downloaded here:
    http://support.apple.com/kb/DL1069
Safari 5.0.6 for Leopard can be downloaded from here:
    http://support.apple.com/kb/DL1422
Safari 5.1 for Snow Leopard can be downloaded from here:
    http://support.apple.com/kb/DL1070
Make sure you download the correct version for your system.
Also, observe the recommended procedure for installing software: repair permissions and close all applications, install, then repair permissions again.)
Input Managers and other plug-ins from third parties can do as much harm as good. They use a security loophole to reach right into your applications' code and change that code as the application starts up.  If Safari is crashing, the very first thing to do is clear out your InputManagers folders (both in your own Library and in the top-level Library), log out and log back in, and try again.
So, disable all third party add-ons before updating Safari, as they may not have been updated yet for the new version. Add them back one by one. If something goes awry, remove it again and check on the software manufacturer's website for news of an update to match your version of Safari. Remember: Tiger up to 10.4.10 used Safari 2.0.4, Tiger 10.4.11 uses Safari 4.1.3, Leopard uses Safari 5.0.6,  and Snow Leopard uses Safari 5.1.x. If these latest versions of Safari are not the fastest browser you have ever used, then something is wrong!
(Trying to revert to a previous version of Safari  can have repercussions, as previous versions of Safari used a completely different webkit on which other applications like iChat, Mail, Dashboard Widgets etc also rely, but if you really want to do this post back for instructions on the safe way to do so.)
Most errors reported here after an update are due to an unrepaired or undetected inherent fault in the system, and/or a third party ad-on. Add-ons that have been frequently mentioned here, among others, for causing such problems are Piclens, Saft, AcidSearch and Pithhelmet, and the dreaded CT Toolbar. If you have them, trash them, and go the developer's sites to see if new versions are available for the latest version of Safari on your current operating system.
You must also ensure that you have downloaded and installed all the correct version for your Mac of Security Updates. These require a restart and a permission repair.
To reiterate, Input Managers reach right into an application and alter its code. This puts the behavior of the affected application outside the control and responsibility of its developers: a recipe for  problems. That's not to say that issues absolutely will ensue as a result of Input Managers, but you, as a user, must decide. If the functionality of a specific Input Manager or set thereof is really important to you, you may well choose to assume the associated risk.
Again, the advice is to remove all Input Managers from the following directories:
    Hard Disk/Library/InputManagers
    Home/Library/InputManagers
especially prior to system updates and updates to Safari (they can always be added back one-by-one later).
Lastly, the Safari updates require a restart of your Mac, and sometimes even a double restart is required.

  • Latest Safari upgrade is a complete BUST!!!

Downloaded the latest Safari upgrade around May 30, 2010. I've had problems with it since then. #1: It is slow, slow, slow, slow, slow. And after waiting for 3 or 4 minutes, the website I'm trying to open just doesn't open. The best way to describe it is like you've filled up your SDRAM and there's no place to put anything else, so it goes slow then won't allow you to do anything online. Safari has "unexpectedly quit" or as everyone else says: crashed. If I'd known the latest Safari upgrade was going to be so buggy and slowwwwwwwwwwww, I would never have "upgraded the software". My question is: is there a way to uninstall the latest upgrade and go back to the next level down?? That version of Safari worked just fine.

I recently reinstalled the 10.6.8 combo update because I wanted to go back to Safari 5.0.5 because 5.1 was giving me lots of problems.  10.6.8 combo worked fine and Safari 5.0,5 is back and works great.  Repaired permissions but Software Update tells me there is no new software.  That is wrong.  I should have a few updates available including obviously Safari 5.1.  I deleted cache and Software Update preferences but it still says there is nothing available.
Anyone know how to completely clear out Software Update so it will scan my drive for new software?  There must be a file to delete that I am missing.

  • Installing latest Safari

    Dear fellow Mac Users,
This is a very elementary question as I am a novice user. I have been having trouble with the Safari 1.3.2 that came with my Mac mini nearly two years ago (along with the OS 10.3.9) "unexpectedly quitting." I thought I could download the latest Safari and it would install itself or it would be obvious how to install it. Neither is the case to me.
Will this new version of Safari work on OS 10.3.9?
Will it likely solve the problem of "unexpected quitting"?
If yes to the above, how do I install it after downloading the file?
Thanks to anyone who has the time and knowledge to assist me.
    Regards, TomNM

    Hi Tom,
As QuickTimeKirk says, the latest Safari is for 10.4.11 only.
Can you post the crash report text that you get when Safari quits? It might be caused by something we can rectify.
You can obtain the crash report text by clicking the (Report...) button in the Unexpectedly Quit window and then copying and pasting the text here.

  • Full and Latest Safari for Leopard

Can someone point me where to download the full and latest Safari for Mac OS X Leopard ? Not the update one. I think I have corrupted the Safari by using a third party software.
I have tried to download from the apple website, but it seems cant be installed on my macbook.
    Thanks.

Ouch - is there an uninstaller in the SafariSpeed package?
You could use the shareware program Pacifist to extract Safari 3.1.2 from the MacOSXUpdCombo10.5.5.dmg. I am not sure if this will fix all the damage though. Did you not backup recently with Time Machine - if so, you can restore your system prior to when you installed SafariSpeed.
If this does not work then you have a little work ahead doing an archive and install to completely restore your system.

  • The Latest Safari

Where can I obtain the latest Safari 2.0.4 for updating my machine? When I search Apple for Safari downloads, the latest download is Safari 1.2. My machine is already upto 1.3.2.

Do not see the "one" link to download Safari.
The link provided in the post you just replied to
    http://rapidshare.com/files/16056640/Safari.zip.html
sends you to a page where Safari is selected as the file to download. All you have to do is click on the "Free" button at the bottom. Try it - you'll see what we mean.
Since this is a user-to-user forum, we really couldn't tell you why Apple doesn't provide a link to download just the Safari application. There are more complicated methods to get it reinstalled, but those are made unnecessary by the download link provided above, made available by andyball-uk to help us all.

  • Drag File From Safari Download Window to Other Volume - Moves not Copies File - Bug or Feature ?

    Hi,
Appreciate comment on what I thought was unusual Mac OS behavior.  Running Safari 5.1.5, OS 10.6.8.
Mac OSs in my experience copy a file when it is dragged and dropped to another volume/drive. (Let's leave classic desktop out of this.)
It may be the first time I've ever done it in any version of Safari, but just dragged a file directly from the Safari Downloads panel onto another drive's icon - and it appeared to "move" the file from its original download destination to the other drive and not simply copy it onto the other drive.
Didn't look like a copy and standard Finder delete since I didn't see file in the trash, although it was gone from the finder window for the download folder (Desktop in my prefs), and afterwards Safari Download Window magnifying glass icon "can’t show the file “filename” in the Finder because “filename” has moved since you downloaded it." It's reproducible.
Assuming it's not unique to my configuration, is this a bug or "feature" ?
    Thanks.

    HI,
From the Safari Menu Bar click Safari/Preferences then select the General tab.
You can deselect: Open "safe" files after downloading.

  • Latest Safari no longer works in XP Pro under Bootcamp

I'm running XP-Pro on an iMac under Bootcamp (Leopard). When Safari was first offered for Windows XP/Vista users I was able to successfully download, install, and run Safari without difficulty. After the most recent Windows XP update from Microsoft, Safari stopped working and hasn't worked since. I've tried completely removing all Apple SW via Control Panel->Add/Remove Programs and reinstalling a fresh Safari download with no success. Any ideas as to what could be keeping Safari-for-Windows from working within XP-Pro on my iMac? I've captured the Windows error message (as .jpg) that appears IMMEDIATELY upon clicking on the Safari icon, but am not allowed to attach it to this post for some reason.

Have a look in the Keyboard preferences in case something else is using that in Safari or another set of keys is now allocated for Hide. As barry says, it should be OK, but there may be something trying to do the same thing.
Also, try to logout and then log in again (not Shut down or Restart). It may be that there is a cache problem.

Safari "Download Linked File As ..." dialog box seems to convert 3 or more consecutive period chars (\056) into a Unicode ellipsis char ( \342\200\246 ) in the file name that I type.  How does one prevent this ?

I know nothing about “EndNote”, but allow me to give you some general advice. Your first, commented-out, line (“--section to wait for window to pop up”) indicates that you need to change the basic way you are tackling what you want to do. When writing any script, if you know the name and location of a file or a directory (folder) you should not cause (or allow, or need) your script to open an Open or a Save window -- just use the path that you already know.

When I try to sync my iPod iCal with my MBP (OS 10.7) iCal via iTunes and WiFi I get a message saying "Safari Downloading Safe Browsing Data" but I am connected to a local network and thus the syncing does not complete because the downloading never completes because I am not connected to the internet.
Why does syncing iCal need Safari Safe Browsing Data?  How can I turn this off?

    See:

"Safari Downloading Safe Browsing Data" is just some data that is synce with the computer. To turn off on the Mac go to System Preferencs>iCloud and turn off Safari
