Latest Secuity Update kills twain support in Photoshop

After installing the latest security update, Photoshop Elements 3 crashes at launch when it gets to "Building Twain Menu..."
Others have had the same problem and I found a work around on MacFixIt: move the twain plugin out of the Plugins folder. This kills the Import From Twain Device function so you'll have to use ImageCapture, EpsonScan, VueScan or another utility to scan.

I don't think this is specific to the security update. The Adobe TWAIN driver is notoriously buggy and ditching it has long been one of Adobe's solutions for when the program won't launch at all. Most scanners that allow you to do this have their own scanner plug-ins (Like canon) that supersede this one anyway. It's really no big deal.

  • Latest firmware update killed my network, HELP!

so.. I updated the firmware about a month ago when it was first available.. My device is completely stock and i'm not really ready to root nor factory reset it. I reset it before due to an error on the backup assistant screwing with my external sd card (the real issue was the copy and paste error some devices were faced with). I've been through about 4, 32gb externals and the latest sandisk just sent me.. is bad too. :/
But, that's not the issue i'm getting at. Since the lastest firmware update with caller ID, etc.. I've had little to no signal, dropped messages in my house, completely dropped 4G LTE while using GPS.. horrible due to some areas I was in.. slow or lagged device to the point where i've had to restart my device 3-4 times each day in the last week...
Can someone either tell me if there is a quick solution to this or what the next step should be in this process. because this whole "we've retracted the update but are looking into a fix" ** isn't very settling. Since, on Verizon's time.. I'm afraid the next update won't come for a few months..

I am having the same issues described by everyone else (dropped 4G, worse signal, etc.) after the update to MD3.
My wife's phone is identical but without the update and it works fine (like mine did before the update)
WHAT is the resolution to this issue, Verizon? I really don't believe I should have to go down the root-my-phone route and find third party sources to fix this issue. Why can't you just push the old firmware back to my phone?
I am quite disappointed that what was my best smartphone experience to date has been ruined.

  • Has latest firmware update killed y TC?

    Hi all,
I have recently purchased a Time Capsule to back up y MacBook Pro and my iMac. All worked well after a bit of trouble with initial set up, but then a few days ago I got a message telling me to run a firmware update for the TC. Since running that I have been unable to get it back on line. I have reset it a number of times but still my machines do not pick it up when running the set-up through the Airport Utility.
    Can anyone help?
    Thanks
    Frank

Well I did the very same upgrade and now the airport utility cannot find the time capsule ? What a pain in the *** is apple aware of this? How can I get Airport Utility to 'not' scan so I can manually reset the firmware on the time capsule ? It took days to back up my G5 and iBook and in the end ethernet was the only way. Anyone know how to fix this mess ?

  • Don't do latest secuity update unless you have to....

Not trying to scare anyone, but I just had a huge scare, thought I'd warn others.
I'm a senior in college, about to graduate. I stupidly updated my computer on a whim. After trying to restart, my Mac was frozen on the grey screen for a half an hour and the blue screen for 20 mins. Scared the crap out of me - I have so much important stuff on my Mac!
Luckily, it restarted and I immediately ran Backup and put files onto a USB card. Just a warning
On a side note, my Mac has been SLOW for about 3 weeks. I'm actually wondering if it's possible I got a virus through iChat. My friends PC got infected and was sending messages to everyone on his buddy list. My Mac has been acting funny ever since. Any thoughts?

  • Latest Leopard Security Update Kills Photoshop 7?

Yesterday installed the latest security update on iBook G4. Today Photoshop 7.0 won't open, giving an error message that reads, +An unexpected and unrecoverable problem has occurred because of a program error. Photoshop will now exit+.
Coincidence? It never happened before the update installation. Reinstalled Photoshop...same result. Any ideas anyone? TIA

Apparently, there is a fundamental Leopard/Photoshop conflict, up to and including Photoshop CS2. Here's a thread at Adobe's site:
    http://www.adobeforums.com/webx/[email protected]@
This is not a happy situation, and had I known, I would not have gone to Leopard. A message on the above thread indicates Adobe is aware of the problem, but no fixes are imminent.

After that, launch the icloud system preference panel, in  -> System Settings and log in.

  • Scanner support in Photoshop CS6 Windows 64bit

Does CS6 restore the twain scanner function on Windows machines that was lost in CS5, or do I have to continue to keep CS4 on my desktop?
    Thanks

The TWAIN support in Photoshop CS6 for Windows is exactly the same as it was in CS5 and earlier. You can download the TWAIN plugin from adobe.com, and install it in the 32-bit version of Photoshop. You will also need to install TWAIN drivers for your scanner by getting the appropriate software from the manufacturer's web site or installation disk. You will need to run the 32-bit version of Photoshop to use your scanner.
There is no 64-bit TWAIN support in Photoshop on Windows primarily because the TWAIN data source manager (DSM) that Microsoft ships with Windows is 32-bit only.
While it is possible for more technically experienced users to download and install a 64-bit compatible DSM to replace the Microsoft version (see twain.org), there are two problems: first, the Photoshop TWAIN plugin is 32-bit only, and will not work in the 64-bit version of Photoshop regardless. But even if it did, and you installed a 64-bit DSM, the second problem is that there are virtually no 64-bit compatible TWAIN scanner drivers (data sources) available from scanner manufacturers (it's a classic chicken & egg problem--there's litte demand for 64-bit data sources, so there are very few 64-bit data sources.)
Dedicated scanning applications like VueScan are popular among people who have more demanding needs for controlling the scanning process, or do a large volume of scanning. The WIA and TWAIN plugins for Photoshop are intended for more casual use, and may be preferable to the expense and overhead of a separate application.
    Hope this helps,

  • After the latest Security Update 2012-001 (Mac OS X 10.6.8) my Adobe Photoshop CS 8, Dreamweaver 8, and InDesign CS programs crash when I try to save a file.

After the latest Security Update 2012-001 (Mac OS X 10.6.8) my Adobe Photoshop CS 8, Dreamweaver 8, and InDesign CS programs crash when I try to save a file. HELP!!!

    Howdy,
Apparently some are reporting that this causes the older PowerPC (PPC) applications that are supported in 10.6 via 'Rosetta' to crash upon attempting to open/save/print using any dialog box, or fail in other similar ways such as simply not printing or quitting, or freezing/hanging/crashing of the application.
I have read of some companies that have indeed submitted proper bug reports to Apple, but that is not a guarantee of a bug-fix being issued.
    You might wish to read:
    http://www.macintouch.com/readerreports/snowleopard/index.html#d02feb2012
If you are unsure if you are still using PowerPC apps, if the application is currently running, look under the 'Activity Monitior' (in Applications -> Utilities), or alternatively you could check in the System Profiler, Applications. Check the column "Type".
Here is a fairly simple way you can restore you system and restore you applications functionality again, if you don't have a recent clone or good Time Machine backup that you can restore from. If you do, restore from your backup prior to having installed the Security Update 2012-001.
    Time Machine restore: http://support.apple.com/kb/ht1427
If you are restoring a backup made by a Mac to the same Mac
With your backup drive connected, start up your Mac from the Lion recovery partition (Command-R at startup) or Mac OS X v10.6 installation disc. Then use the "Restore From Time Machine Backup" utility. Select the backup prior to your issues, and it will be restored back to the state it was in at that time.
If you can't easily restore from a backup, you can instead do the following:
    - You first start by reinstalling your OS X 10.6.x, this will preserve all your user data, your applications, no worries there.
    - Then install the Mac OS X 10.6.8 Update Combo v1.1 (links provided below)
    - Make sure you're printers are showing up correctly in your system preferences, if not, re-add the printers
    - Then finally, run the Apple Software Update (by pulling down the Apple Menu), and install any and all remaining updates, except do not then re-install the Security Update 2012-001. It is possible that you may have to reboot after installing some of the updates, and you may even need to run it a 2nd time to make sure that you've got all updates, except NOT the Security Update 2012-001.

  • Adobe Brings Retina Display Support To Photoshop And Illustrator CS6  As A Free Update For All Users

Adobe Brings Retina Display Support To Photoshop And Illustrator CS6
As A Free Update For All Users..... if this is TRUE then how Do I get it. My CS is HORRIBLE visually. Does ANYONE know anything encouraging about this issue with Adobe CS and Retina Display???

As pointed out by John T Smith, you should post the questions in the correct forums to get swift replies.  However, yes Adobe has made its promise good and the blog to that effect is here:

  • HT203284 Third party accessories no longer supported... All my charging cables were great before the latest ios update, why?

Third party accessories no longer supported... All my charging cables were great before the latest ios update, why?

I don't know which accessories you have, but the 'better' ones are usually made with Apple's cooperation. Stuff from Targus, Kensington, Belkin and the like.
Ive used a belkin and Onn lightning cable with my iPod with no error messages.
You SHOULD  be able to keep using the accessories and just ignore the warning. But I say should because that may not be the case with everything.
The issue stems from various incidents involving shoddy third party accessories malfunctioning - sometimes quite spectacularly. But the headlines never read 'cheap knock off cable shorted out' they read 'iphone burst into flames'

  • Will retina display support in Photoshop be part of a regular, free update?

Will retina display support in Photoshop be part of a regular, free update or will it be part of a new version upgrade?

Anyone who knows about future release plans will be bound not to tell.
I don't have one, but from what I've read the current version already works with the Retina display - it's just that is uses the high density display pixels in blocks of 2x2 (pixel doubling).
Is this insufficient for your needs?  Is your desire just to see prettier fonts and icons, or maybe a bit richer looking document preview?
I was reading something the other day that said the mouse only moves in 2 pixel increments horizontally and vertically anyway on a Mac equipped with a Retina display, so the Apple implementation is not completely like having a double resolution display.

  • Latest update (~04/10/14) to Photoshop CC fails.

Just tried to update Photoshop CC with yesterday's patch, but it just gives an "Update Failed" error msg, and suggests a Retry (which also fails over and over).
I had no trouble with the updates for Bridge CC, or Photoshop CS6.
Is the PS CC failure because Camera Raw was updated when I updated Bridge CC, and there's nothing left to update for PS CC, or what?
Are any other components of PS CC supposed to get updated besides Camera Raw, or is the update JUST to Camera Raw?
    Thanks ...

Thanks for the link to the lnstall-logs info.
Unfortunately, there were no logs for either BridgeCC or PhotoshopCC, only for CameraRaw 8, which the log said completed just fine.  I presume that that's what was
*really* updated when I clicked on the update for Bridge CC.
As may be, after a full Shutdown (a Restart did no good), no pending updsates are listed for PS CC, so I guess all this was over the Camera Raw update.
Too bad Adobe doesn't list Camera Raw as a separate item.
    Cheers,
    /kim

  • Camera Raw update on trial version of photoshop.

Getting very frustrated and wonder if any of you  clever people out there could help me. I have Elements 8 and have just bought a EOS600D, elements can't open or show a thumbnail of the raw images.
So I downloaded the trial of photoshop CS5 thinking this would solve my problem, but no, and  I can't seem to download the camera raw update to the trial version - does this seem right ?

So are you trying to locate a way to open your RAW images in Elements 8?  Assuming the latest version of Camera Raw supports your camera you can utilize the DNG converter to convert your RAW files to DMGs and then open those in Photoshop Elements.  You can find the DNG converter at http://www.adobe.com/support/downloads/product.jsp?product=106&platform=Windows.
