Latest Skype is bad

I just had to upgrade my Skype to latest version and am not impressed. Firstly it saves all the files I get now to a directory which is dam hard to get to like user/appdate/.... Why on earth would they take away the ability to set to which folder you want to save a file if someone sends it to you. Secondly I cant see any more what time it is at my contacts country which sucks as we do meetings at specific times and its easy to convert time when it shows their current time. Not to mention the new look in the chat window is supper confusing to see which person is chatting. Is there a way to change setting's or something to fix this or even a way to go back to previous version as I must say this is the worst upgrade I have ever seen on Skype.

Ya , i agree this! My customer having trouble to receive the file (example jpg)
and i tried my deskstop skype (7.0.59.102) send a jpg file to my another skype id on samsung galaxy note 3 skype (5.1.0.57240), it will auto save to temporary folder (i forgot where it is) , i can save the file through long press (on phone) right click on file then save as (desktop). After received the file, Skype mess up the file name

  • Can't install latest Skype update on OS X 10.5.8

I get a message that my version of Skype is to be retired. Then I find my operating system, which cannot be updated (Mac OS X 10.5. is unable to run the latest Skype.
So I need a new computer?

6.15.334 actually works pretty well on the Mac, but the question is for how long....
Mocrosoft have decied to retired 6.14, which means that in about 8 months to a year, they will decide that 6.15 is due to be retired to, and that's it, gone.
The requirements for 6.19 are utterly stupid - a 1 Ghz CPU with Mavericks??????
The person who wrote that knows nothing about MacOS - there is not a single Mac with a 64bit EFI architecture that has a 1Ghz CPU, and the 32bit EFI machiens won't run Mavericks.
As Microsoft are prone to enforcing a hardware requirement whether it's needed or not (the requirement of PAE on a 64bit system when installing Windows 8.1 is a prime example), once they decide to ditch 6.19, we're stuck.
The windows version (desktop and metro ui) is terrible, bugridden, overcomplicated, cluttered and slow. The Mac version looks cleaner, is pretty lean, and runs fast on my 8 y/o macbook.
It's the only saving grace with Skype at the moment, and they're going to drop it when they feel like it, and sod all of us who don't have a brand spanking new mac.
Regarding 10.5.8, unless you're on a G5, I would suggest an upgrade to at least 10.6.8 (as far as you can go on a Core Duo 32bit), or 10.7.x on anything above a Core 2 Duo.
Even if you can only go up to 10.6.8, it's a big improvement over 10.5.x.

  • What is the latest Skype version?

Where can I find the latest version number of skype? I know how to find it in skype itself, I just want to find out what the latest version is and where I can get that information from.

The currently latest Skype version is 6.18.XX.105, where XX can represent different values depending on different partner releases. The basic version is 6.18.0.105.

  • Huge smileys in latest Skype update

In the latest skype update, whenever you post a smiley on its own it becomes this huge animated thing which takes up two lines of text. Is there a way to stop it from doing that so it stays the normal size, like if you add a smiley to an existing line of text? It's very annoying.
    Thanks!

I need to update Skype on my Windows 7 Professional 64 bit system and also on my Windows 8.1 Professional 64 bit system. (With regard to the latter, Windows Update offered the update but it failed to install 3 times, and I was unable to find a link to download the standalone version).

  • When in group chat, skype has bad connection and games lag

Okay so I have searched almost every related post and cant find this exact issue and ive tried all the standard stuff to fix internet issuesWhat happens is So I moved to a new house and had no internet for 2 weeks starts may 20th about, and we got internet around june 5th. Ever since then when I join a group call with my 5 local friends Ive been in a group call with for 4 years i have bad connection and when i play online games it lags. It use to affect my internet browser, google chrome by making stuff stop loading but that isnt the case anymore. I have tried many things. Like recently I join skype group call and it seems to be fine but once i join their terraria server both skype lags and terraria and I end up losing connection. I have a theory but there still a lot of variables. Whenever my one friend is in the group call i lag a lot more than I usually do, but not everytime, and sometimes i still lag when hes not in the call. Its also him hosting the terraria server where its really bad. It has been like this for other games too though and I have tried many solutions. I feel like maybe its a bandwith thing but i get over 100 mbs download speed and around 15 mps upload speed and low ping. I can also download 2 games and play a online game with 0 problems but once skype is involved it becomes terrible.I really would like a fix, I have used skype forever and I dont think my friends really wanna use anything else.I got windows 10 about a week ago, the beta, but it did it on windows 7 too.I have also tried downloading older skypes but it keeps downloading the newer one automatically even with automatic updates off. Also when I lag on skype the little refreshing/connecting icons comes up and I lag to my friends, but I never hear them lag.

If you are swapping out operating systems and nothing is changing then the variables you need to look into are: 1,  Your wired/wireless connection.  Try wired if going wireless as you may have issues sustaining a good connection with the myriad of ports Skype uses.  This can be due to distance, interference or other factors. 2,  Try bypassing your router and go directly connected to your modem (if possible).  Issues with the router firmware, its configuration or the limitations of the  router itself could be causing bandwidth related issue.  Going wired to the modem would be ideal.  3. You can try disabling/enabling uPnP in your router to see if that makes a difference.  Some routers handle uPnP well, others have performance issues with it.  4  Cable modem/Line issues -  You could have stability issues due to the quality of the modem based off standard/tier.  You could have line conditions that affect upload/download stability or both, under load. I've had issues with Skype that were related to my wireless router firmware.  I've also had to swap out my modem to a more compatible and higher tier one (twice) when my ISP performed infrastructure changes.

  • Sign in page formatting broken in Latest Skype (Win7, x64)

I am trying to install Skype on my Windows 7 (x64) desktop computer.  Once installed, it opens a small browser window with what appears to be unformatted content.  I can see the sections (login, merge, etc), but clicking on their links (underlined and in a different color - so I assume they're links) does nothing.  There's a username and password box, and filling them out (and hitting enter to submit the form) supposedly logs me in, but leaves the same mess on the screen.  I can never get past this one unformatted HTML page, it seems.
I have tried making IE my default browser, making sure my Logitech Cam is connected, etc.  I've also tried uninstalling and cleaning the registry, rebooting, etc.  If helpful, I have attached a screen capture of the broken Skype login page.
Can someone familiar with this issue offer some words of advice?

The start-up screen is still formatted wrong, but you can navigate to the user name and password sections, enter them. Once it logs in, the screens are OK again.  I believe the new 6.10 installer may have a problem. Hope this helps someone else.

  • Microphone not functional in latest skype running under Windows 7 pro RTM

Essentially I've installed Windows 7 pro RTM on my new Macbook Pro (the 15" unibody) and I've updated Skype to the latest version (4.1.0.136). Obviously I installed BootCamp 2.1 into Windows 7, along with all its drivers.
Skype fails to detect any sound from my microphone - either the builtin Cirrus Logic, or when I plugin my headset. Weird. It DOES detect the Cirrus Logic hardware, just no sound being sent through. The speaker works fine.
I've checked all audio settings in control panel (mic boost and the rest) and Windows correctly shows the microphone detecting sound - even the sound recorder works. But Skype refuses to hear anything.
I was wondering if anybody had a solution to this seemingly common issue?
    Message was edited by: lzy7071

I managed to get the mic working in Skype running Windows 7 RC 64 bit on my Mac Book Pro.
It's a Skype problem. The program automatically selects the DIGITAL input. You need to change it to the internal microphone.
From Skype, go into Tools -> Options -> Audio Settings and make sure the microphone is selected instead of the digital input.

  • Latest skype installer taking absolutely forever to install

I have an i7 4790k 4GHz processor, 2 128GB SSD's in RAID 0, a total of 3tb internal storage and a Z87-G43 Mobo. Latest installer from skype's website is taking longer than 30 minutes now, just to install. 4mbps line, no connection issues right now.

I'm quite surprised by that, are you sure it didn't upgrade you again to 7.5?
Nonetheless, another thing to try is to remove your previous skype data, but your chat history might be lost...
    1. quit skype completely, so from the tray (next to clock), right-click and 'quit';
    2. go to My Computer, or File Explorer, and browse to the following folder (you might have to type this into the address bar at the top):
    c:\users\[your windows username]\appdata\roaming\
    3. rename the 'skype' folder to 'skype_old' or something;
    4. restart skype.
By the way, if you would like to keep the previous version (6.21), then you will have to follow these instructions to disable automatic updates, and also keep an eye on Windows updates, because Microsoft force people to upgrade by pushing skype through Windows Updates (especially if set to install automatically).
As a last resort, you could login to skype from your web browser (Skype for web).

  • Latest Skype upgrade agreement too broad; a non-st...

The latest upgrade includes a new agreement that I find totally objectionable. It says:
"For future updates, Skype may automatically install the latest version to your computer without you having to do anything."
I assume the phrase "...to do anything." means "without granting permission" and may be done without my knowledge. OUCH!
Considering the fact that Skype is now owned by Microsoft, there is absolutely NO WAY I am going to grant unfettered unrestricted access to my computer without my knowledge or prior consent TO ANY VENDOR. Microsoft offers this type of secret update access but also gives the user three choices, including just being informed of availability of updates. So why in the world would I give Skype, now a Microsoft proxy, a permission that exceeds that of Microsoft? It makes no sense at all.
Given the lousy security situation on the Internet I find this "agreement" to be subject to possible abuse on several levels. So I'm going to stick with my current version (5.5.0.124) until Skype delivers a more sensible approach that addresses my security needs.
Incidently, I've been a paid Skype subscriber since 2002. It has been a great solution for me, but everything has its limits.

    That sounds Great!
But I don't have any update options under "tools>options>advanced>automatic updates". I'm still running v5.5.0.124
The version that Skype is offering me for update still has the still restrictive policy on the initial screen.
So based on what you are saying, I guess I have to "agree" to the policy that I reject in order to get the version you describe; the one with the less invasive policy. It would be better if they would just remove the restriction at the point of the upgrade offer, instead of offering it on a LATER version. Or just offer me the later version that doesn't have it.
Go figure! The classic "chicken and egg" problem. Can't get there from here.
But I do appreciate your input.

  • Unable to run latest skype

Hi - I can download the Skypeinstallfull file, but when I go to run it it advises that there has been a fatal error and it cannot load library 'SHFolder.dll'. I have tried uninstalling, and reinstalling, and I have checked that I have all the latest operating system updates, but I keep getting this error message.  Can anyone help?  Thanks.

Please,  run the DirectX diagnostics tool (32-bit version).
Go to Windows Start and in the Run box type dxdiag.exe and press the OK button. This will start the DirectX diagnostics program. Run this diagnostics and save the results to a file. Please, attach this file to your post.
Be aware that you will have to zip this file before attaching it here.

  • Installation of latest skype update

Having been perfectly happy with 'old' skype, we're now compelled to download v1123456.I have to download 'new' skype every time I want to use it.It won't stay installed. There is a message that says 'find' (??) the setup thing but it is nowhere to be found which probably accounts for its failure to stay installed.  Fortunately, (most) contacts remain accessible. I must say it's hugely charitable of you guys to fill in for the support function that should be provided by skype! After trying to use the new and 'improved' version, I'm left feeling rather less charitable, I must say. As for installing a clickable call thing or MSN as homepage...wtf?It seems leaving well enough alone doesn't compute in IT world. Can anyone recommend a simpler, easier VOIP system? Thanks! Grumpy Old Man
