Latest SP levels for BI 7.0 and it's Front-end tools such as BEx.

Dear Experts
We are using BI 7.0 connected into SAP ECC 6.0 to implement HCM in BW.
I was told by the Basis that SP hasn't been upgraded ever since the BW system was installed back in year 2008.
They have come back today saying they have upgraded the SPs which I still doubt since the System Status shows me the same Release and SPs that I remember I had seen a couple of days ago.
It is showing as below in System Status:

Component Information (after clicking on the lens):

Please let me know what are the latest patches and versions so that I'll ask my Basis to upgrade accordingly. As I could see that the Query Designer and BEx Analyzer are with different revisions, I am doubting if they are different for WAD, Report Designer and Information Broadcasting tools also.
Where should the Basis start upgrading the SPs so that it will spread right across the system?
Any help or directions to right info online is much appreciated. Thanks for your time.

Advice regarding using 3.5 front end AND 7.0 front end on users' machines

We are trying to determine the best way to roll out the new 7.0 front end tools. We are doing a technical upgrade to 2004s first, and later converting all the objects. Initially we plan to have both the 3.5 and 7.0 front end tools both residing on users' pcs, until we convert all objects to 04s.
Does anyone have a recommendation for rolling out the new tools to users, with out the risk of having them accidentally convert objects when they open queries (we have been told that if you open a query in the new tools, it automatically converts the objects). We need to prevent this from happening until we are ready to convert all the objects.

The most important thing is to use naming conventions (maybe a new naming convention using the new tools). Then set security up to prevent conversion depending on your scenarios. When migrating, it is recommended to be very careful around converting global elements (variables, Global Calculated Key Figures, and Global Restricted Key Figures). Within the RSZCOMPDIR table, there is a version field (greater than 100 is 2004s elements) so you can see the version there as well. It is recommended to migrate all queries within a single infoprovider together to avoid conflicts with global elements.

I just tried this for you and was able to start the download process..here is the full path for sap gui 7.10 for windows version..

It doesn't even require email..just right click and then save target as its in a compressed form..

Is APEX the tool for a lightweight browser based query only front end?

I'm tasked with prototyping a lightweight browser based front end to display consolidated customer information. It needs to be callable from half a dozen disparate and mostly non-Oracle applications, each passing in a customer id parameter. In my mind I've already marked-down the only front-end tool I have experience of - Forms10g as being too resource intensive to be continually started up and closed down (plus the initial potential JVM download to locked-down PC's). That leaves me with a couple of options (as far as I can see) - APEX or ADF Faces. I'm slightly worried about the steep learning curve for a J2EE environment plus the possible compatibility issues with ie 5.5 ( I know, I know ). And finally, my question - I've got a good feeling about it but does APEX seem like a good fit for this sort of task?

Chris - They want to be able to hit a button in these other applications and see a browser window pop-up (quickly!), view the customer details (composite picture sourced from a data warehouse) then close the browser window and go back to their app. Needs to be lightweight for speed so APEX seemed a good idea.
Denes - Thanks. I'm thinking that the users will regularly open this browser session from their app then close the APEX window to return - probably time and time again. Did you find that establishing a connection and getting the page up made it slow. Is there something I should concentrate on to make sure that aspect performs?

I have developed one application using complete vb only. That is completly desktop appliation and not suitable for centralized database. Is there any facility to keep my front end as same (vb application) and for the database transaction can i use jdbc? Is there any possibility to do that like View is vb based application and the database connectivity is only jdbc

Front End Tool for JSP

I'm trying to develop a commerically viable front-end to an existing JSP system.Are there any tools available that make the task of creating a front end(i.e. HTML,XML) easier.
For example, nice headers/tabs at the top of each page while keeping usability at a premuim??

That's a difficult question to answer off the top of my head.
Are you looking for some software that allows you to import a JSP based application into it, with the intention of modifying those so they look nicer?
Or are you looking for a tool that will let you build nice looking pages then spit those out as JSPs or XMLs?
Either way, my reply would be NO? The userbility aspects are things your organisation has to invest time in (designers, PR folks, communications, page developers, info architects, etc). Translating those thoughts into hard pages is where the HTML layer comes in, and there are no tools out there that can bring usability into web pages.

However, if what you are asking for is the availability of tools or editors to help you create the HTML you put in JSP files, then you are only one step away from your answer. Is there a way for users to add products in the front-end using a Web-App?

I am racking my brains trying to figure out a way to let users add products to the front-end on their own.

In short, out of box no, but is possible.
Solution 1: Hosted on BC, external interface that interfaces with BC API, requires external hosted server.
Solution 2: Wait until v3 of the API comes out... no timeline from Adobe given. This would remove the need for the external API server.
Can do both solutions for you but solution 2 wont work until adobe allows it.

IPhone 5 not being recognized in iTunes (Mac). I have the latest Software update for iTunes, my iPhone, and my Mac. I have gone through the iTunes connectivity troubleshooting, no luck. Any suggestions/solutions?

The reason I found this problem is that I did a complete reset of my iPhone, so it reset all the content, through settings on the phone. That ended up deleting the ringtones I had. I tried searching up the same tones, however you can't "Install" already purchased stuff like you can in the AppStore.
I can't "iTunes wifi-sync" because you need to have connected at least once to the computer before you can wifi-sync, but because I reset my phone, it doesn't "remember" it once synced with my Mac cause I reset it.
I have gone through the "iTunes connectivity troubleshooting", nothing worked.

My iPhone charges fine with the USB-Wall outlet adapter, so its not the lightning connector or the USB connector on the other end of the cord.
All the USB ports on my Mac are functionning (working with other cords for printers, etc.), but still the iPhone persists not to be recognized in iTunes.
So I am guessing iTunes is the problem.
Any Help, Solutions, Suggestions, would be appreciated.

Latest LR update for 3.6 endless and ceased NEF functionality

I've been searching for similar issues but have not come up with anything so perhaps this is just me. The update Lightroom_3_LS11_win_3_6.exe continues to request a new download at the start of each LR session and NEF files are no longer readable. My first indication of an issue with this was when I first installed this update and an entire shoot popped caution signs, their thumbnails were highly pixilated and so I attempted a resync. Upon resync an Import Results dialog popped saying 'The files are from a camera which is not recognized by the raw format support in LR'. This hasn't changed since. Luckily I still have all of the files backed up properly and can import again if necessary.

Connection problem in oracle10g and developer6i as front end!

Hi, guys i installed oracle 10g database first and then installed developer6i, and the installation was successful. i changed the TNS name file in both the folders same.But when i try to login to the sql plus of oracle10g then the error comes as "listener does not currently know of the service requested in the connect descriptor". And when i try to login to the sql plus of developer6i then the message comes as "Message12514 not found; product=RDBMS80; facility=ORA" Please can i get some suggestion to solve this problem.

Firstly, Developer 6i is not certified with 10g DB (but it might work). Which patch version is it ?
About Sql*Plus, 10g version, you probably have some discrepancies between tnsnames.ora and the listener. Please post your tnsnames.ora file (10g Home) and the result of
C:\> lsnrctl services
About Developer's Sql*Plus the problem seems to be ORACLE_HOME variable not set. Try this
C:\> set ORACLE_HOME=<Developer Home path>
C:\> set PATH=%ORACLE_HOME%\bin;%PATH%
C:\> sqlplus ..........

But with these components, I have not the new abap editor at Tx Se38 -> Utilities -> Settings -> ABAP Editor
I'm using SAP GUI 710.
Can anyone tell me what support package level I need to get the new abap editor?

Ask your DBA'S or Hardware or Network administrator who hav the patches for the new GUI.
They will install/run at your system ,then u will be able to see the option in editor for
old frontend editor
