Latest Update Availability

Hello,
I updated to the latest DWCS6 last week - or so I thought.  I've seen there is a further update to v12.1.
However, at the moment, this seems to be available to cloud members only.
I watched the promo video and the guy talking seems to suggest it was updated to cloud members because they require these updates 'as fast as possible'.
Is there a timeline for when it will be released for non-cloud members - i.e. those DWCS6 users who don't, by implication, require the update 'as fast as possible'?
I can imagine the many purchasable guide books for DWCS6 will take a hit in sales until the update releases coincide better.
Any news when the 12.1 update will be released to all?  I'm sure it can't be too hard to make it available using the usual Update Manager.

Yes, I'm sure it is perfectly legal. The issue in question is how the revenue is reported in the company's accounts. A far more technical explanation of how revenue recognition affects software companies can be found at http://www.revenuerecognition.com/industry/software/.
It says, in part: "Adjunct products or services provided with the software could be upgrades, training, customer support, or any other such offerings. These additional elements far exceed the delivery of the actual software, and the initial question is one of allocation of the total license fee to the software and the relevant elements. . . . Where vendor-specific objective evidence (VSOE) of fair value exists for all of the elements, the total arrangement fee (license fee) must be allocated to each element of the arrangement, and can be recognized as revenue for each element only when the SOP 97-2 criteria for the element have been satisfied."
As I understand it, if a software company sells a product for $100 in May, and then offers a free upgrade with a nominal value of $50 six months later, the company accounts have to show $50 revenue in May and the remaining $50 in November. If the upgrade is not free, then there's no problem. As someone suggested earlier in this thread, Adobe could make the 12.1 update to Dreamweaver available to others for a nominal fee. However, I expect that shareholders and customers would start asking questions about the real value of the update if only a nominal amount were charged.
But the question of upgrades is separate from bug fixes. I believe Adobe would gain greater respect from its customers if it fixed bugs promptly and provided patches as soon as available. If that causes problems with revenue recognition, it should be possible to allocate, say, 10% of the purchase price to bug fixes and spread the revenue over a specific period.
But I'm not an accountant, so what do I know?

What is the latest update available for Mac OSX 10.5.8 that will allow me to get the latest update for iTunes.  I really need to update my iPhone and CAN'T!!  GRRRR!!!

Minimally you need Snow Leopard or greater:
Upgrade Paths to Snow Leopard, Lion, and/or Mountain Lion
You can upgrade to Mountain Lion from Lion or directly from Snow Leopard. Mountain Lion can be downloaded from the Mac App Store for $19.99. To access the App Store you must have Snow Leopard 10.6.6 or later installed.
    Upgrading to Snow Leopard
You can purchase Snow Leopard through the Apple Store: Mac OS X 10.6 Snow Leopard — Apple Store (U.S.). The price is $19.99 plus tax. You will be sent physical media by mail after placing your order.
After you install Snow Leopard you will have to download and install the Mac OS X 10.6.8 Update Combo v1.1 to update Snow Leopard to 10.6.8 and give you access to the App Store. Access to the App Store enables you to download Mountain Lion if your computer meets the requirements.
         Snow Leopard General Requirements
           1. Mac computer with an Intel processor
           2. 1GB of memory
           3. 5GB of available disk space
           4. DVD drive for installation
           5. Some features require a compatible Internet service provider;
               fees may apply.
           6. Some features require Apple’s iCloud services; fees and
               terms apply.
    Upgrading to Lion
If your computer does not meet the requirements to install Mountain Lion, it may still meet the requirements to install Lion.
You can purchase Lion by contacting Customer Service: Contacting Apple for support and service — this includes international calling numbers. The cost is $19.99 (as it was before) plus tax.  It's a download. You will get an email containing a redemption code that you then use at the Mac App Store to download Lion. Save a copy of that installer to your Downloads folder because the installer deletes itself at the end of the installation.
         Lion System Requirements
           1. Mac computer with an Intel Core 2 Duo, Core i3, Core i5, Core i7,
               or Xeon processor
           2. 2GB of memory
           3. OS X v10.6.6 or later (v10.6.8 recommended)
           4. 7GB of available space
           5. Some features require an Apple ID; terms apply.
    Upgrading to Mountain Lion
To upgrade to Mountain Lion you must have Snow Leopard 10.6.8 or Lion installed. Purchase and download Mountain Lion from the App Store. Sign in using your Apple ID. Mountain Lion is $19.99 plus tax. The file is quite large, over 4 GBs, so allow some time to download. It would be preferable to use Ethernet because it is nearly four times faster than wireless.
OS X Mountain Lion — System Requirements
Macs that can be upgraded to OS X Mountain Lion
             1. iMac (Mid 2007 or newer) — Model Identifier 7,1 or later
             2. MacBook (Late 2008 Aluminum, or Early 2009 or newer) —
                 Model Identifier 5,1 or later
             3. MacBook Pro (Mid/Late 2007 or newer) — Model Identifier 3,1 or later
             4. MacBook Air (Late 2008 or newer) — Model Identifier 2,1 or later
             5. Mac mini (Early 2009 or newer) — Model Identifier 3,1 or later
             6. Mac Pro (Early 2008 or newer) — Model Identifier 3,1 or later
             7. Xserve (Early 2009) — Model Identifier 3,1 or later
To find the model identifier open System Profiler in the Utilities folder. It's displayed in the panel on the right.
    Are my applications compatible?
See App Compatibility Table — RoaringApps.

  • Mac OSX SUS - Why aren't the latest updates offered for some software

For instance, on my sus, Quicktime 7.6.4 is the latest version offered for leopard. 7.6.6 is available on Apple's site. Is there actually a 7.6.6 update others can see on their sus, or is this a universal issue - and why aren't the latest updates available?
    Thanks

I just checked my 10.6.3 SUS server at it appears to have that Quicktime 7.6.6 update listed. The size is listed as 68.5 MB and the post date is 03/30/10. My SUS Server Admin interface shows a "Last Check" time of Apr 13, 2010 3:00:00 AM.
I have wiped and reinstalled my SUS server several times dealing with the "missing 10.6.3" updates bug reported many times in these forums so that may be why my server is displaying the Quicktime 7.6.6 update.

  • Latest update messes up colours in certain windowed applications.

Hello there, a couple of days ago (April 16th) I installed the latest updates available for my system. This included:
    Safari 5.0.5
    Security Update 2011-002 1.0
    Canon Printer Software Update 2.5
The installation went as planned, but shortly thereafter I started noticing colours that weren't there usual vibrant selves. They were washed out, and tinged with brown. The first thing i check was my colour profile, it was as it should be. Upon further inspection I realized it was only affecting the colours in certain windowed apps. For example, in Adobe Bridge CS5, thumbnails of my work appeared washed out and brown, but if i view the full screen preview, the colours are as beautiful as they should be. Another example, websites appear washed out and brown in the browser (I've only tested in Chrome so far), but when I take a screen shot, then press the space bar to view the screenshot, the colours in the screen shot are vibrant as i expect them to be. However if I open the screenshot in preview, the colours are incorrect.
I also installed the same updates on my MacBook Pro, and haven't noticed any problems.
So what's going on here then?
    Cheers.

Since changing my screen arrangement so my dock is on the main screen again, I've noticed that the icons in the app folder are all horribly oversaturated.
Please help me Apple, I like my colours to be correct. Microsoft always managed to get it right for a much lower price, so I'm sure you can manage too

  • Log & Transfer not working after latest update.

I updated Final Cut Pro 6 to the latest update available. Now when I try to log and transfer my DVCPRO-HD files I'm having errors. Some kind of blocks appear all over the video and the sound is fuzzy and goes in and out like the mic is turning on and off. It was working fine for a couple clips but then it started messing up. Any ideas? Is there a way to remove the latest update?

Thanks for your suggestion, it has solved my difficulty. For informational purposes I will publish my post and the solution in hopes it will assist others.
I am running Final Cut Pro 6.0.5. My Sony SR12's drive is recognized during the Log And Transfer process. The problems continue. All of the thumbnails have a grayish/brown band going right through the middle of each one. I am able to play the clip in the Log and Transfer window but as soon as I attempt to drag the clip to the media box, FCP crashes. I had this same problem with iMovie 7 and found that updating to the latest version solved the problem. In this case however, FCP 6.0.5 is the latest version. I have the same problem with Final Cut Pro Express 4.0.1 but again, not with iMovie 7.1.4. I loaded Sony’s XDCAM software as well just in case but it did not do anything to help the situation.
When I trashed the Perian component along with QuickTime preferences it did the trick. I believe it was the old version of Perian causing the conflict with Final Cut Pro’s Log and Transfer option, not the Quick Time preferences. When I installed the newest version of Perian which is 1.1.3 there didn’t seem to be any conflict and the HD clips from my Sony SR12 imported fine with no further crashes.

  • Why does "Check for Updates..." show that there are no updates available while I'm using Firefox 3.6.18 and latest version is 5.0.1?

First and foremost, I'd like to clarify that I hardly have any technical knowledge. So pardon me if this comes across as a silly question to the professionals. Here are the details pertaining to this problem as per the best of my limited knowledge:
I'm currently using Mozilla Firefox 3.6.18; previously it was 3.6.13. It was updated to 3.6.13 from 3.6.9 after I clicked on Check for Updates... and it told me that it'd be done when I reboot my system. When I restarted my PC, I was surprised to find that it was downloading the version 3.6.18. I didn't know how much it'd progressed in the process, so I let it finish it. After that, I disabled the option that enables it to download and update on its own, and turned it off. Next time when I started it, it was 3.6.18, but wasn't updating on its own anymore.
Now I wanna update it directly to the latest version 5.0.1. But when I leave it to "'''Automatically download and install the update'''" option under Tools>Options>Advanced>Update, it downloads and updates the versions as per their release order. So if I leave it to it, then when I start it next time, it'll start downloading the version next to 3.6.18 and update to it instead of updating directly to 5.0.1. It'll keep doing so until it reaches there. For reasons of my own, I don't like that. So I '''unchecked '''the "Automatically download and install the update" option and chose the "'''Ask me what I want to do'''" option (so that it doesn't keep repeating the "downloading and updating" process on its own every time I start my PC). Then I went to Firefox site and thought of downloading and updating to the latest version on my own. But then I was informed that if I do so, '''I'll get the latest version, but I'll lose all my saved bookmarks unless I follow some hectic procedure to save them and load them again after installing the latest version of Firefox'''. I don't want to let that happen either. So, can anyone suggest me a way out of this situation without losing my bookmarks?
Almost forgot. I tried several times by going to '''Help>Check For Updates...''', but every time it returned the same result: "There are no updates available. Firefox will check periodically for updates." How come no update is available while the version I'm using is 3.6.18 and the latest version is 5.0.1? In short, '''Check for Updates...''' didn't help either. (Even when I updated it last time, shouldn't it have updated itself from version 3.6.13 to 5.0.1 directly?)
So, can anyone suggest a way by which I won't lose my bookmarks and would be able to update to the latest version directly too? An answer that wouldn't involve removing the current version and installing the latest one, but directly update to it (it's okay if it needs downloading) would be more welcome. I know that the bookmarks can be saved in a file and all, but I'd like to know if it's possible as it happened for my current version from previous version. (It downloaded and updated itself on its own, disturbing nothing, not even logged me out of certain accounts where I stay logged in. The only problem there was that it wasn't updating directly to the latest version.)
I hope the aforementioned details make sense and are helpful enough for others to help me. Thanks.

Thanks a lot for your swift response. And sorry if it was a bit too hectic to go through my detailed query (which I did because it was misunderstood when I asked previously). As I've mentioned above, I was informed that updating to 5.0.1 would '''require''' me to '''delete''' the current version and then install the new one. And doing so will involve losing all my bookmarks. I guess I should have been more specific and detailed there. By losing, I didn't mean losing them forever. I'm aware that they're secured in some place and deleting and installing the software doesn't harm its existence. What I meant that if I install the new version, I'd have to delete the old one. And after installing the new version, I'd have to transfer them (bookmarks) back from wherever they are. Get it? When it updated from 3.6.9 to 3.6.13, and from 3.6.13 to 3.6.18, I didn't need to follow that process. They were already present on their own.
BTW, I'm having no problems with 3.6.18 but after learning about the existence of version 5.0.1, I'm a bit too eager to lay my hands over it.
Thanks for your help; hope this wasn't extremely long.

''trying to update to latest firefox I'm 3.6.18 But it says NO UPDATES available''
If you mean to 6.0 try updating now, everything seems to have been screwed up this last week or two with strange things happening yesterday.
The www.mozilla.org which is usually better for updates without messing things up does not tell what version it would download if your press the green button on page.
The www.mozilla.com site yesterday indicated 5.0.1 yet for a couple weeks no update would be found when asked in Firefox from 5.0 Today it indicates 6.0 and 5.0.1 got updated to 6.0 when I asked it to. It too had check for updates and ask, but did not find any updates until today and that wasn't checked automatically.
Yesterday my 3.6.18 got updated as soon as I brought it up to 5.0.1 today it went to 6.0 (I had check for updates, like within 3.6.* but I also had ask me, no respect)

  • How can I know about the latest updates / versions which when available for all the CC products, without having to install and check it with the Desktoip Creative Cloud Application ?

How can I know about the latest updates / versions which when available for all the CC products, without having to install and check it with the Desktoip Creative Cloud Application ?

Thanks for looking into this Jeff!
I work with an Inventory module software and is responsible for software detection across several computers. Once an updated version comes up, I update our database with latest software details to get it detected if installed on any machines.
    The problem tracking updates with Desktop Creative Cloud Software are;
1)We have to have it installed with the CC applications in-order to get the notification of the latest updates and have to check everyday.
2)Only relates to the latest updates, so in-between we may miss a prior update unknowingly.Hence, the remote machines having those updates may not get  detected with the software version update which would create problem in reporting.
3)For all CC products, there is no base or previous updates available for installation if we miss one.
I went through the Adobe Products Update pages [Product updates] which holds good when it comes to Acrobat and Reader software which I follow to track down any newer updates but this is inconsistent when it comes to CC products like in After Effects CC, Dreamweaver CC etc...
So overall to be very specific, is there any one channel I can follow to get the notifications only for the updates on CC products and then may be I can rely on Desktop Creative Cloud for installation if not available anywhere like in product update pages of Adobe ?

    Subrat
