Latest update to Adobe Flash crashing IE7?

We’ve put the latest (10.1.53.64) version of Adobe Flash Player out to our (Windows XP SP3) testers and within hours we started getting reports that websites with Flash are crashing Internet Explorer (7).  Internet Explorer will just disappear intermittently (but regularly) with no error message and nothing in the event log.  They don’t have to be doing anything on the page and it can sit there for a couple of minutes while they’re just reading and it’ll disappear.
It only seems to be crashing for people when they have Hardware Acceleration turned on (which is the default) and one common element here is that it’s only crashing regularly on people who have secondary monitors (which are connected via DVI cables) or people on laptops where the external monitor is connected via a DVI cable.  Turning on hardware acceleration brings back the crash.
I haven’t experienced a single crash myself (analog VGA cable).  No users running the previous 10.0.22.87 release have reported crashing.
We're using the latest available video drivers (intel).
I called the switchboard of the main site that our users go to (www.smh.com.au) and they have experienced an upsurge in calls relating to their website crashing.  It could be the site, but I wanted to check if other people were having issues since this new version was released.   Has anyone else seen this?    Bit scary if the quality isn’t there and they start leveraging WSUS to roll out dodgy updates.
Someone else mentioned DVI cable as a potential avenue to investigate:

You can download the player safely if it comes directly from Adobe's website. Get Adobe Flash Installer

  • Why doesn't the latest update of Adobe Flash work well?

    Well for me it doesn't.
This is my 3rd time downloading it, it'll eventually stop working again like it did the first two times and I'm going to have to reinstall it again.
I went to see if I still had it by going to: http://helpx.adobe.com/flash-player/kb/find-version-flash-player.html
I see the moving red dot, but in step two, everything in red is blurry/faded.
Shows which version I have, but I can't find it anywhere on my computer. I have the latest version.
Also every website that I visit that supports flash tells me to update to the newest version, which I ALREADY HAVE.
    What can I do?

  • What's the best way to update my Mac with the latest version of Adobe Flash Player?

I've been getting prompts whenever I look at certain websites to download the latest version of Adobe Flash Player.  I'm skeptical as to responding to those prompts.  What is the best way to update my Mac Pro with the latest version of Adobe Flash Player?

You might also want to consider uninstalling Adobe Flash... I currently don't have it installed and haven't needed to install it.  Most websites are now coded in HTML 5 so that the iOS devices can actually visit them.  I can still watch YouTube videos et al.  About the only thing I can't do is play Flash games... but they're a resource hog anyways.
Try going without for a day or two and see just how many sites you visit no longer require it.  A lot of people keep it installed out of habit, not out of necessity.  If you have Flash installed, visit a site and it's out of date, it will tell you to update your Flash.  What it won't do is tell you is that had Flash not been installed, it would have used the HTML 5 code instead.  Think about it... if an iOS device can't run Flash at all... it can't visit this site if it were written only to use Flash.  What site would eliminate such a huge portion of their market base?  You'd be surprised at how many sites use HTML 5.  Uninstall Flash and see for yourself.

  • Yoga 13: Adobe Flash crashing with Transitions?

Whenever I have Firefox open and flip from laptop to tent or tablet mode, Adobe Flash crashes.  This is a major annoyance because really the only time I go from laptop to tent or tablet mode is when I am watching a video within Firefox.  I've searched Google but haven't found anything... I have the latest version of Flash (11.6.602.180) and the latest version of Transitions I've found on this horrible Lenovo site.
Has anyone else experienced the same problem, and have you found a fix?  Thanks in advance!

I, too am having this issue - however instead of crashing, my PC usually slows down.  For anyone at Lenovo that cares to actually test this issue - just open up any web browser and watch a YouTube  video.  Play the video in laptop mode.  Then when you're done, switch to tablet mode and play it again.  That same video will either become choppy or crash.  Likewise, when I try to use a program to play DRM videos (Vudu) or play flash-enabled games I have the same issue.  I have tried to look at task manager and do a comparison of programs running before and after transition to tablet mode, and all I can see is a .1% spike in memory usage by Lenovo Transition.
I think this is a more recent problem as I don't remember this being an issue from the start, but I can't identify how recent.  I used to play a game called SoulCraft from the Windows 8 store back in January.  This game is most easily played in tablet mode, and it played perfectly.  It quickly got old and I stopped playing after about a week.  I came back to it about 4 weeks ago but it was choppy in tablet mode.  When in laptop mode it plays fine.  So I reckon that this issue came with a software update that occurred sometime between late Jan and early Apr.  That's just my speculation, though.  I have also installed/uninstalled programs which may be messing with the transition software.

  • Why do you give contradicting advice on Adobe Flash crashing?

I have recently updated to latest version of Firefox, then also to latest version of Adobe Flash (11.3). My games (not fb games) & some videos from articles in my homepage have continually crashed. I'm tired of sending 'crash reports' but nothing being done. So I came here to find out & saw that YOU recommended uninstalling Adobe Flash 11.3 & instead install earlier version of either 10.3 or 11.2--with 10.3 having all the security patches. Well I did (10.3) & when I click on the 'check your plugins' from here, you tell me I need to UPdate my version of Flash Player. What???
You have totally confused me now. What do you suggest NOW? I pay money for these games on my PC & the crashes are really getting to the point that I don't want to play them or even try to watch the video news from my homepage anymore! Please get back to me on this with some kind of solution.
    Thank You So Much
    Peace & Blessings

    Hi PatTra,
    Sorry you are having problems.
Uninstall Flash 11.3 using adobe's installer and reinstall either the secure version 10.3 or take a risk on the less secure, but better featured 11.2. Follow the instructions in

I think Firefox could make that clear when users submit crash reports, but I suspect the thinking is that this support forum would be totally overwhelmed if any more than a minute proportion of crashes resulted in a forum visit and potentially a question being asked.

  • My plugins don't work even though I have the latest version of adobe flash and java. )

when I go to a site like you tube that require a plugin I get the message that Firefox has disabled this feature for security reasons. I then click on the feature update plug ins it take me to the adobe site I down load the latest version of adobe flash only to run into the same problem over again. I've tried updating this feature both manual & auto but with no success.

    Hi there
No need to get testy. Lilybiri was being spot on with the comparison.
The only solution for you will be to uninstall the Flash player, then locate an older version of the Flash player and install it on the Windows XP you have. Captivate is now at version 8 and several years have passed since version 1.1. You will likely not make 1.1 work with Windows 7 or Windows 8. In fact, the only way I'm aware to remotely make it work on those operating systems is by first ensuring you have the Professional or Ultimate version, then installing the Windows XP mode Virtual Machine.
Here is a link for uninstalling the Flash Player
And here is a link for the older versions
Sorry, but you are on your own to sort exactly how far back you will need to go to find a version of Flash Player that works with this version of Captivate. And keep in mind, that even though you finally get a Flash Player version that allows it to run, you will only be able to run it on some form of Windows XP. It will not run on Windows 7 or 8 unless you install the VM. And when you do that, you will be stuck inside the VM and will not be able to record anything outside it in the 7 or 8 environment.
    Cheers... Rick
