Latest updates now mail won't open

Down loaded the latest updates today now mail won't open??

Verify/repair the startup disk (not just permissions), as described here:
The Repair functions of Disk Utility: what's it all about?
After having fixed all filesystem issues, if any, reinstall any updates that may not have been installed properly. It may also be necessary to reinstall the Combo Update for the type of computer and the version of Mac OS X you’re using, unless this is the version of Mac OS X that came with your computer:
Mac OS X 10.3.9 Combo Update
Security Update 2007-003 for Mac OS X 10.3.9
Take a look at the following articles for guidelines on how to properly install system updates:
Troubleshooting installation and software updates
Installing software updates
Basically, you should verify/repair the startup disk before installing the update, no applications should be running while installing it, and you may experience unexpected results if you have third-party system software modifications (not normal applications) installed.

  • Just did software update, now mail won't open!!

I just ran a software update and now may mail application won't open. These are the five updates that I installed:
    Backup 3.1.1
    iPhoto 6.0.6
    Airport Base Station 5.1
    iTunes 7.2
Mac OSX Update Combined (PowerPC) 10.4.10
I don't think I needed to install that last one, about the Power PC....Anyone know if that is enough to keep my Mail App. from openenig? I can still check my e-mail via .Mac, just not through my Mail Appliacation.

Did you download the correct Combo for PPC, since it
appears you do not have an Intel Mac?
If the correct Combo version, then I think you should
run Disk Repair from the original Tiger install disk
to check out your hard drive.
How much free disk space do you have on your hard
drive, or if partitioned, on the boot partition?
    Ernie
    Ernie,
thanks for the suggestions. I'm not quite the Mac expert I'd like to be, so bear with me please. How do I know if I downloaded "the correct Combo for PPC, since it appears you do not have an Intel Mac?" Wouldn't my computer automatically download the correct one? How can I check if it's the right one? ALSO,
How do I "run Disk Repair from the original Tiger install disk to check out your hard drive"? Do I need to insert the original startup disk again, or can I do it without it?
When doing info on my mac, it says I only have 6.1 GB left available. THANKS FOR YOUR HELP!!!!
    Wade

  • Security Update....restart.....now Mail won't open!

I just installed the latest security update, restarted and now Mail won't open. What's going on?

    John,
There is something strange about this update notice by means other than Software Update -- the one I saw was on MacMinute. Neither of my Macs running 10.4.5 had this one presented by Software Update. It is very close to the same version number as the one presented yesterday by Software Update. I have been trying to find whether there was a specific "fit" for it, but have not found the key.
Downloading and installing an update of this type, that is not presented by Software Update may be problematic. I will keep researching.

  • Just installed the latest update, now iTunes won't launch

    Hi,
iTunes was running perfectly fine, but wouldn't let me access the iTunes store until I installed the latest software update (9.0.2 or something like that). The software installed successfully, but now iTunes won't open. When I click on the icon in the dock, it bounces once, then nothing happens. I also tried opening iTunes through the Applications folder, and still nothing happens. I've also tried ctrl-clicking on music files and choosing "open with iTunes" and still nothing. It doesn't give me an error message or anything, it simply doesn't do anything. I just want to listen to my music! Does anyone have any advice?

Of course, immediately after posting this, I looked through the board again and discovered another topic on the exact same question. The answer was that I needed to update my software to version 10.4.11. I did that, and iTunes opened just fine.

  • Itunes updated, now it won't open.

Itunes was updated and now it won't open. A box appears reading "New Itunes Library". What's going on?

I had this and managed to fix it:
    Download iTunes from https://www.apple.com/itunes/download/
    Open the Terminal
    Run "sudo rm -r /Applications/iTunes.app"
    Re-install iTunes

  • Updated Quicktime...now Mail won't open

I updated quicktime yesterday and immedately afterwards Mail would not open anymore. It just bounces (usually just once) and then nothing. Anyone know how to fix this or how to revert to the previous version of quicktime?

Actually, I have it on very good authority (Apple
person) that you can install the combo 10.4.6 update
and it will not step on SecUpd 2006-003 components
I cannot believe this. The Mac OS X 10.4.6 Combo Update would certainly overwrite files installed by the Security Update 2006-003 (e.g. Safari). Could this be a misunderstanding? The Security Update 2006-003 does not touch anything in the Mail.app bundle, could this be what that person really meant? I'm pretty sure reinstalling the Security Update 2006-003 is necessary if the Mac OS X 10.4.6 Combo Update is reinstalled on a system where the Security Update 2006-003 had already been installed.
Also, I don't think that the Combo will alter the QT status.
EDITED: I agree with you on this, but I'm not sure, so I thought it would be appropriate to be on the safe side and take that possibility into consideration.
I suspect it is the Mail program that got damaged
I don't think so. According to the Console error messages, Mail crashes right upon start up because there is something amiss in /System/Library/Frameworks/.
Not sure QT re-install is needed.
It could very well be that properly reinstalling the QuickTime update fixes whatever went awry in /System/Library/Frameworks/ during the first attempt. If not, then reinstalling the Combo Update will be necessary, indeed.
I'll try installing the QuickTime update myself tomorrow (today here :-)) to see what happens.
    Regards.

  • Installed new update, now Itunes won't open

I installed the new update, now when I try to open itunes it just stays on the bottom. The arrow is under it like it's open, but the window doesn't come up. Also, it won't even force quit, to get it to turn off I have to reboot.
    Jason

Jason, I just downloaded the latest update as well and sure enough, iTunes crashes during start-up every single time - the good ol' rainbow pinwheel keeps going and I can't force quit either. I will probably try to delete preferences or something. If you find a fix or if anyone else knows of a fix, I would very much appreciate it. By the way, I am running iTunes on a 15" MBPro and running the latest OS update. Wondering what computer you are running it on. Good luck. I will post back if I figure out a fix.

  • Installing 10.9.2, "shutdown because of a problem", now Mail won't open and App Store won't work.

While installing OS X 10.9.2, my MacBook Pro suddenly "shut down because of a problem" (which isn't the first time that happened). Checking the Apple menu and "About this Mac" it says I have 10.9.2 installed. I tried to see if I could reinstall the update, figuring something went wrong when the computer shut down, but the App Store won't work, clicking on "Updates" or any other tab doesn't change the screen from the App Store icon in the center. Mail also won't open, which is what I ; I tried to see if I could reinstall the app, but I don't have the CD that the support page said I needed. It seems to be only Mail and FaceTime that won't open so far. How do I fix this?

I took it in to my university's apple care and they wiped and reinstalled the OS.
Next time I will just go in and ask, since it doesn't look like anyone else is getting any real help with this problem!

  • Yosemite upgrade done now MAIL won't open

    Hi All
Running a 2011 macbook pro.  Just upgraded to OS X Yosemite. I now have two issues:
    1. In iCloud, it will not let me log out of my old account (old email address that i no longer own).  It tells me i need to open mail then try again.
    2. When i try to open mail it won't open and i get an error message and report that is sent to Apple.
Can anyone help please?  Low tech answers if possible
    Thanks

Launch the Console application in any of the following ways:
☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)
☞ In the Finder, select Go ▹ Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.
☞ Open LaunchPad. Click Utilities, then Console in the icon grid.
    Step 1
For this step, the title of the Console window should be All Messages. If it isn't, select
SYSTEM LOG QUERIES ▹ All Messages
from the log list on the left. If you don't see that list, select
              View ▹ Show Log List
from the menu bar at the top of the screen.
In the top right corner of the Console window, there's a search box labeled Filter. Initially the words "String Matching" are shown in that box. Enter the name of the crashed application or process. For example, if Safari crashed, you would enter "Safari" (without the quotes.)
Each message in the log begins with the date and time when it was entered. Select the messages from the time of the last crash, if any. Copy them to the Clipboard by pressing the key combination command-C. Paste into a reply to this message by pressing command-V.
☞ The log contains a vast amount of information, almost all of which is irrelevant to solving any particular problem. When posting a log extract, be selective. A few dozen lines are almost always more than enough.
Please don't indiscriminately dump thousands of lines from the log into this discussion.
Please don't post screenshots of log messages—post the text.
☞ Some private information, such as your name, may appear in the log. Anonymize before posting.
    Step 2
    In the Console window, select
DIAGNOSTIC AND USAGE INFORMATION ▹ User Diagnostic Reports
(not Diagnostic and Usage Messages) from the log list on the left. There is a disclosure triangle to the left of the list item. If the triangle is pointing to the right, click it so that it points down. You'll see a list of crash reports. The name of each report starts with the name of the process, and ends with ".crash". Select the most recent report related to the process in question. The contents of the report will appear on the right. Use copy and paste to post the entire contents—the text, not a screenshot.
I know the report is long, maybe several hundred lines. Please post all of it anyway.
If you don't see any reports listed, but you know there was a crash, you may have chosen Diagnostic and Usage Messages from the log list. Choose DIAGNOSTIC AND USAGE INFORMATION instead.
In the interest of privacy, I suggest that, before posting, you edit out the “Anonymous UUID,” a long string of letters, numbers, and dashes in the header of the report, if it’s present (it may not be.)
Please don’t post other kinds of diagnostic report—they're very long and rarely helpful.

  • Installed 106.3 with Combo Update but Mail won't open at all

Never saw this happen before. Mail.app won't open. Anyone else seeing this?

Exactly the same problem here. I ended up using a TC Restore and even then had to reload 10.6 from DVD, download 10.6.1 and then 10.6.2.
I won't be going down the 10.6.3 route again! I need Mail to run!
Has Apple shot itself in the foot?

  • PowerBook crash and now Mail won't open

My PowerBook G4 crashed hard some time ago, and since then Mail hasn't worked (I defaulted back to Eudora because I was swamped, but now I finally have some time to try to deal with this). When I open it, I get as far as the menu headings (File, Edit, etc) but no windows and then get the spinning beach ball of doom and have to force quit. I'm guessing some file got corrupted when everything crashed.
I've browsed the forum a bit for advice, and here's what I've tried so far:
Repaired both permissions and disk from the 10.4 install disk (no disk errors found; some permissions repaired but nothing mail related so far as I could tell).
Tried opening mail with the shift key down (no luck), with Airport off (also no luck), with Airport off and the shift key down (still nothing), and in SafeBoot mode (and again nothing!). So I don't think the problem has to do with a particular message that's corrupted or anything (which seems to be a common problem).
Created a test account and opened Mail from there- it got me at least as far as the first "set up Mail" window, though I didn't bother to take it further. (Should I?) Suggests a bad prefs file rather than the program itself?
I've tried looking for the crash log, but when I look at the ~Library/Logs/CrashReporter/Mail.crash.log file the only crash listed is from about 2 years ago. Is there someplace else a crash log would be hiding?
I haven't played with deleting prefs or other files yet; I'd like to make sure I've covered all my bases before I have to start recreating account info and stuff.
Other info: I'm using Mail 2.1 and OS 10.4.8; it's an IMAP account. Let me know what other info would be helpful.
    Any advice would be welcome!
    Lisa

    Hi Kenichi,
I dragged that folder to the desktop; it didn't help. The Cache/Mail folder contains folders numbered 00 to 15, each of which also contained folders 00 to 15, each of which contained several cache files. Does that sounds normal? (Should I bother putting it back?)
What's next? The prefs, or something else?
    Thanks!
    Lisa
