Latest Virus Warning - Fact or Fiction?

Hello every one. I just read a news article from a news service here in Australia about a new virus that is hitting Skype. This is the article if you want to read it
[invalid URL]
I personally am taking it very serious considering the number of people I have seen in the blogs here that are talking about being hacked or their accounts deleted.
If I am not allowed to post links like this here, I apologise...but can SKYPE confirm that this is going on and if there are any fixes for it yet?????

Please see-

It's not a virus or any type of malware, just a script on the web page you are viewing.
    Courtesy of Linc Davis:
It's a JavaScript scam that only affects your web browser, and only temporarily.
    1. Some of those scam pages can be dismissed very easily. Press command-W to close the tab or window. A huge box will pop up. Press the return key and both the box and the page will close. If that doesn't happen, continue.
    2. From the Safari menu bar, select
              Safari ▹ Preferences... ▹ Security
and uncheck the box marked Enable JavaScript. Leave the preferences dialog open.
Close the malicious window or tab.
Re-enable JavaScript and close the preferences dialog.
    3. If the Preferences menu item is grayed out, quit Safari. Force quit if necessary. Relaunch it by holding down the shift key and clicking its icon in the Dock. From the menu bar, select
Safari ▹ Preferences... ▹ Privacy ▹ Remove All Website Data
to get rid of any cookies or other data left by the server. Open your Downloads folder and delete anything you don't recognize.

  • Differences display Macbook versus Macbook Pro - fact or fiction?

"There is a substantial difference between the quality of the display of the Macbook and the quality of the display of the Macbook Pro (both: late 2008)."
    Is this fact or fiction?
Please explain your answer as much as you can

whatever I have will be with me for the next 4-5 years...should I go with the non-retina because of this?
It doesn't directly follow that you should limit yourself to the non-Retina, because it depends on how much storage you need. If the amount you need in the next 5 years is within the Retina storage amounts you can afford, then of course the Retina would work fine. Now, to work out what you would need in the next 5 years...
    nba123 wrote:
Also do you think I will need 256gb or 500gb? which is more likely for me?
We can't guess that for you, because it depends on your individual storage habits. You said you would need to store "music, pictures and word/powerpoint documents." You would need to start with what you currently store, and then have an idea of how fast you accumulate them. The numbers can vary widely depending on how fast you grow your music and photo collections, and the sizes of the files. For example, a person using a DSLR camera shooting 24-megapixel raw files will have a photo collection that grows in size much faster than someone who only stores JPEG files from a camera phone.
I wouldn't worry about Word or PowerPoint files as those tend to be quite small. What consumes disk space the fastest is digital media: Music, photos, and videos. Especially HD videos. You can store maybe 100 Word files in the space taken up by a single music CD. A single 5-minute HD video can use up the same space as over 1000 Word files.
Also, you will want to leave at least 50GB unused so that the system has enough room to manage temporary files like virtual memory and temp files, some of which can be rather large. If after you run the numbers you will need over 200GB or so, then you should be looking at the 500GB to avoid space issues. For most users, 256GB of total disk space seems to be enough though.

  • Order of loading Master Data - Fact or Fiction

I understand that for loading Master Data for InfoCube 0FIAA_C01 (or any other) you should load starting from the lowest level.
That means for every characteristic in the cube you have to check and see if any of the InfoObjects have Master Data attributes, and if any of those attributes have attributes, and so on. This quickly becomes a multi-level structure.
Part of the tree structure for 0FIAA_C01 would look like:
    0FIAA_C01
    ..........0COMP_CODE
    ....................0CHRT_ACCTS
    ....................0C_CTR_AREA
    ..........0ASSET_AFAB
    ..........0ASSET
    ....................0ACTTYPE
    ....................0BUS_AREA
    <snip>
So does that mean that 0bus_area should be loaded first before 0asset?
    Is this fact or fiction?
If its a fact I am wondering what tools SAP has for determining the order of loading Master Data.

    Hi,
My master data loads are largely in the area of HR.
The only order I follow while loading master data is for a particular infoobject with regard to text, attributes and hierarchy - The order being text>>attributes >>hirerachy.  Frankly, I have not checked doing it otherwise.
Across different master data infoobjects I see no need to have any order atleast in HR.  Generally speaking a master data object has data that has an independant existence as extracted from R/3 or other sources and not derived from any other master data object in BW.
Master data as its name implies should not have referential integrity checks with other master data.
It would be good to know if someone has real experience to the contrary.
    Mathew.

  • Virus warning

I just received a virus warning from a website www.thesafemac.com. It just popped up when I did a search on Google.  It also gave a phone number of 1-888-261-6418 to call.   I couldn't get out of that site either.  I had to close close out Safari.  I cleaned my History and Safari/Preferences/Privacy/Cookies.  I also ran updates.  Is this Apple warning me?
If this website is not Apple why are they warning me and not Apple?  If it is some non affiliated Apple outside source what gives here?
How do I know that I have a virus, malware, trojan or whatever besides some outside source telling me there is something lodged in my computer?  My firewall is on and so the rest of the security settings.
In searching the community section for answers there is nothing whether to call Apple support in order to authenticate the warning and if they can eradicate the virus.  I bought Apple with security in mind.  How can an outside source (?) be warning me of a virus on my computer when I am not in www.thesafemac.com?
Now I am not sure to trust Apple. Yes, there are the possibilities.
There is also no information on how much it is going to cost me for the virus or whatever search and eradication. My protection plan is expired and I was told by an Apple store that there is no such thing as extending or purchasing more warranty.
    Thank you.
Mac Book Pro Early 2011 with Yosemite Version 10.10.2

These sites are scams. Ignore and move on. Do not click anything on the site or call any phone numbers. It is unlikely you have any problems on the computer.
In the event you have a problem exiting the page:
    Helpful Links Regarding Malware Problems
If you are having an immediate problem with ads popping up see The Safe Mac » Adware Removal Guide and AdwareMedic.
Open Safari, select Preferences from the Safari menu. Click on Extensions icon in the toolbar. Disable all Extensions. If this stops your problem, then re-enable them one by one until the problem returns. Now remove that extension as it is causing the problem.
The following comes from user stevejobsfan0123. I have made minor changes to adapt to this presentation.
Fix Some Browser Pop-ups That Take Over Safari.
Common pop-ups include a message saying the government has seized your computer and you must pay to have it released (often called "Moneypak"), or a phony message saying that your computer has been infected, and you need to call a tech support number (sometimes claiming to be Apple) to get it resolved. First, understand that these pop-ups are not caused by a virus and your computer has not been affected. This "hijack" is limited to your web browser. Also understand that these messages are scams, so do not pay any money, call the listed number, or provide any personal information. This article will outline the solution to dismiss the pop-up.
    Quit Safari
Usually, these pop-ups will not go away by either clicking "OK" or "Cancel." Furthermore, several menus in the menu bar may become disabled and show in gray, including the option to quit Safari. You will likely have to force quit Safari. To do this, press Command + option + esc, select Safari, and press Force Quit.
    Relaunch Safari
If you relaunch Safari, the page will reopen. To prevent this from happening, hold down the 'Shift' key while opening Safari. This will prevent windows from the last time Safari was running from reopening.
This will not work in all cases. The shift key must be held at the right time, and in some cases, even if done correctly, the window reappears. In these circumstances, after force quitting Safari, turn off Wi-Fi or disconnect Ethernet, depending on how you connect to the Internet. Then relaunch Safari normally. It will try to reload the malicious webpage, but without a connection, it won't be able to. Navigate away from that page by entering a different URL, i.e. www.apple.com, and trying to load it. Now you can reconnect to the Internet, and the page you entered will appear rather than the malicious one.

  • Installing CS5 triggers Virus Warning

    Hi All,
I have recently installed CS5 onto a brand new computer, running Windows 7, which has not been connected to the internet yet. During my first attempt at installation, my Bitdefender virus protection warned that 'Adware.Rotator.L' was located during the installation process.
The programmes (Indesign etc) then failed to open, again with the virus warning appearing'.
Having read through the forums, I then reinstalled CS5 with the virus software turned off, as recommended. Im now able to use the software without issue, however only when the Virus Protection is turned off. When I turn bitdefender back on, the programme (Indesign etc) crashes on opening
Any suggestions on how to proceed?

Adobe also advises to disable such virus detection software while installing Adobe software. Reenable the virus protection when installation is completed.

  • Virus warning on my i book g4

very time i try to go on line i well get a warning like. virus warning immediate action required. then give me three options to fix the problem.the first two options do not work the last one I have to call 1800 785 8145. My i book get infected how i can fix the i book

    Hello,
This is not the first time of come across this kind of 'Virus' Like Stevejobsfan123 has rightfully stated these are indeed advert scams that get you to pay a lot of money for premium rate numbers and often install malware on your computer. If your iBook is useable and it's only effecting Safari, I would be inclined to clear your history and reset Safari or any other web browser you are using on your iBook. Install ClamXAV for Mac and scan your directories for any viruses.
Lucky for us Mac users, a lot of these scams are aimed at installing software on PC's and their for wouldn't do any harm to your iBook. If you have a PC on your home network which shares it with the iBook, be sure to scan and update your ant-virus on your PC.
    Best of luck

  • Virus Warning Symantec SB and Reader X

I get a virus warning since I installed Symantec Endpoint Protection Small Businness version. Everytime I open Adobe Reader X the virus warning pops up.
There are a bunch of cache files in C:\Users\username\AppData\Local\Adobe\Acrobat\10.0\Cache that get the warning, all with the file extension .sve. The first file that popped up was rdlang_rdlang.sve. It probably has something with the language (swedish in my case) so those who have an English Adobe Reader will probably have the extension .eng.
Is this a real virus or is it Symantec who has to fix the problem? Probably the later i think..

If this is a known good application being detected as a threat, you can file a False Positive report with the Symantec Security Response folks.

  • Virus Warning on Flash update

    Hi
I keep getting a virus warning when I try to DL your flash update (from adobe site). I am trying to get the windows version for XP. This has been going on a couple weeks now and I have not installed it. I saw others have had virus warnings with Flash after installing.
NOD says it is a trojan possibly similar to the win32 genetik
    Thanks,

The main problem with these kind of infections is that people do not pay enough
attention on what they are downloading or installing.
Always download Flash Player updates only from the original Adobe or Macromedia site!
Always download Windows updates only from the original Microsoft site!
This goes for all software: always download software updates only from the original manufacturer's site!
I always download from the site both adobe and microsoft and that darn virus got me too! So it was not their fault
this one is a doozy. It is a dropper type trojan. I even wiped my computer and it found a way within a week to re-activate
itself. It had embed invisable code when it arrived so don't know if that had anything to do with it. It also opened a second portal
and changed the registry. The only thing that killed that picking sorry bisket eater was that microsoft antimalware tool. The first
go round I couldn't even download that for I was locked out. It had disabled javascript and removed my start button even and
was unable to get system restore to work.. After wiping my computer finally I was able to download the microsoft anti-malware
tool and finish it off for it was still lurking in my system. It took me a month of battling that sorry virus to kill it out of my entire system.
It was ALIVE I TELL YA.,Thank God for Microsoft! I had good virus protection and a firewall and it got me anyways so it helps to also
    know what to do.

  • Slow burn vs Fast burn (which is better quality) fact or fiction

Ok again I would like to know the official answer to this question because from the response last time, I'm not really confidence with the answer.
IS IT FACT THAT IF YOU USE WAV BURNER AND BURN AT A SLOWER SPEED COMPARED TO FASTER SPEED THE QUALITY BECOMES BETTER BY PROOF?
    IF THIS FACT OR FICTION.
SOMEONE PLEASE PROVIDE SOME LONG YEARS EXPERIENCE PROOF.

Sorry, can't wait until someone clocks what I've said, 'cos I might be going out soon, so thought I'd write it up first...
The difference between the HHB and the Mac burner is... nothing much. The actual tray and laser workings are probably the same in both units. The extra dosh for the HHB covers the casing, functionality and the convertors - it's basically a hardware version of WaveBurner, and we all know hardware versions cost more than software versions.
Therefore, in my alleged test there should only be one of the four that shows any difference, and that's the real time recording via analogue. The other three, all remaining in the digital domain, irrespective of speed, should give the same results, because data is encoded in the same way, no matter how you do it. It would be interesting to see if there is any difference, but I doubt the equipment I've got would be sensitive enough to monitor it (or would allow me to zoom in and see the difference enough to post here). With that in mind, the human ear isn't going to hear it.
The only REAL difference the speed option gives you is reliability of burning. The faster you get, the more prone it is of making an error in the burning process, but this can sometimes come down to the quality of the disc itself. Not all discs are the same, as I guess most people have realised to their horror at some point (data).
Just a final note. I'm working with a voice-over artist for TV and radio, and the stations are happy to receive the files as MP3's via email. Who'd have thought that would happen when MP3 came out?!? Just goes to show people are putting a perspective on the quality standard for final use. But I'm still sending AIFF files though, MP3 makes me shudder as an original! And here we are worrying about CD quality...

  • Safari is blocked with virus warning

    I lost control with Safari
There is a window popping, with an Virus Warning
It's impossible access to the Preferences nor to reinitialize or open a new Window
Even if I Quit Safari, Force to quit or restart the computer the issue persists
    What can I do ?

There are at least two schools of thought expressed by experienced users here in this Apple community regarding malware and popups.
One school primarily uses free application(s); the second school requires no additional software and just some simple steps on your part.

  • Anyone else gotten an anti-virus warning that Adobe file "Droplet Template.exe" is a Trojan?

Got this warning for the first time today -- my anti-virus prevented "droplet template.exe" from opening because it is seen as a Trojan.

This is from Vipre Threat Track after having received my file droplet template.exe for inspection:
We have received and tested the sent file 'Droplet_Template.exe' but it was not detected as a threat by Vipre. Please update Vipre to definitions 30465 or higher to verify on your end.
Let us know of the results. Thanks and have a great day ahead.
I had Vipre scan the file after I applied the latest updates and it was not seen as a risk. I have Vipre set to check for updates every 30 minutes, so not sure how they got outdated. They are now 30474.

  • Turn off Anti-Virus Warning

When I do a Toshiba Laptop Checkup on my NB505 it says I have no Anti Virus programs but I do. I installed Avast and it is running. Is there a way for me to tell the computer it's there so the warning stops coming up wanting me to install Norton which I do not want at all. The OS on this Netbook is Windows 7 Starter.

Which NB505? There is a label on the bottom. (I want to look up the OS.)

  • Antivirus - fact or fiction?

For those of us newer to OS X from PC's - do we actually need antivirus on OS X?
Broad question but if using a solid router that is properly configured and tested, wireless with WPA and good comon sense on Internet and for file downloads, why would I need it?
I always hear that so few if any viruses exist for OS X that antivirus is not really needed. I use my MBP at home and not on a corporate network, no open wireless hotspots or networks and am very careful about surfing and downloading files only from trusted sources.
Obviously antivirus is always good but is it really needed in OS X?

    David,
Here are a few references for reading which you may find interesting. I believe the evidence will speak for itself.

Also, to set the record straight, the argument that Mac users are not the target of attack because of "security through obscurity" is hardly a point you can attribute to my prior comments. On the contrary, the fact that the underlying OS for the Mac is publicly available means that anyone can review the code directly in an un-obscure and open way.
The concept of a virus writer targeting a larger audience in the PC world holds true regardless of whether you are believe the 5% figure, or the 10% OSX adoption figure.
The argument that one does not need anti-virus software in a world where so many computers touch the Internet (known to be a bad neighborhood) is similar to one who says they don't need to use protection because their country has less incident rates of HIV.
Our world is a dangerous one, whether or not you use a Mac or a PC. Happy reading!

  • How can I verify virus warning from Apple is valid?

I just received a notice from the "Apple security center" warning me that Apple Web Security has detected Trojans and is ready to remove them all.  This is followed by options to Cancel or Remove all.  The claim is that 66 viruses have been found.
I am suspicious to follow this warning in case it is not legitimately from Apple.
My Apple Care is expired and I cannot find a way to contact them to verify Apple sent this warning.

Hi spartan, I've just received a similar warning.
    Check this video:
    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=g0hNrr_A5Gc
It is a trojan horse. Once you clic on any button it will download an "anti-malware.zip" file which has a "inavd.pkg" file that should have an anti-malware. In case you've downloaded them, just delete them and empty the trash. Finally, close that tab and contact apple: http://www.apple.com/contact/feedback.html
    Good luck!
