Latest WRT610N Firmware Breaks Mac OS Support

Applied the 7/28/09 firmware update to my 610N and now Mac OS 10.5.7 Safari browsing is dog slow.   PCs seem to work OK.  Avoid this firmware at all costs if you use Mac.  Does anyone know if it is possible to get the prior firmware version somewhere?

Did you reset the router after upgrading the firmware....if not then Press and hold the reset button for 30 seconds...Release the reset button...Unplug the power cable from your router, wait for 30 seconds and re-connect the power cable...Now re-configure your router...

It is slower on N, slower on G and even slower when connected via ethernet. Slow web browsing all the way around.

While looking to upgrade to a newer MBP, found out latest version of iTunes does not support wired syncing of iCal and contacts. Syncing of these must be done through iCloud. This is a deal breaker for me for several reasons. Are there any workarounds or do I have to go back to a PC with my tail tucked between my legs?

When you say wired syncing, are you meaning between an iphone and your mac?

  • My Mac only supports Windows 7? (MacBook Pro 15-inch Mid 2012)

I don't get this... I have the latest 15-inch MacBook Pro (not retina) available and I get a message from Boot Camp 5.0.2 saying that my Mac only supports Windows 7.
Isn't this an error? Why wouldn't I be able to get Windows 8 drivers for the latest 15-inch MacBook Pro.
Is this an error/un-updated version of Boot Camp or will I be stuck with Windows 7 forever?

It means your Macbook Pro will run on Windows 8.
Mac Book Pro (15-inch and 17-inch, Mid 2010) and MacBook Pro (Early 2011 or newer)
That means your 15 Inch Macbook Pro is newer so it should install with no issues.
The problem might be Windows not having drivers for your newer Macbook Pro.  Not necessarlly means that it's your Macbook Pro's or Apple's fault - it would be a Windows issue.

Minimally you need Snow Leopard or greater:
Upgrade Paths to Snow Leopard, Lion, and/or Mountain Lion
You can upgrade to Mountain Lion from Lion or directly from Snow Leopard. Mountain Lion can be downloaded from the Mac App Store for $19.99. To access the App Store you must have Snow Leopard 10.6.6 or later installed.
    Upgrading to Snow Leopard
You can purchase Snow Leopard through the Apple Store: Mac OS X 10.6 Snow Leopard — Apple Store (U.S.). The price is $19.99 plus tax. You will be sent physical media by mail after placing your order.
After you install Snow Leopard you will have to download and install the Mac OS X 10.6.8 Update Combo v1.1 to update Snow Leopard to 10.6.8 and give you access to the App Store. Access to the App Store enables you to download Mountain Lion if your computer meets the requirements.
         Snow Leopard General Requirements
           1. Mac computer with an Intel processor
           2. 1GB of memory
           3. 5GB of available disk space
           4. DVD drive for installation
           5. Some features require a compatible Internet service provider;
               fees may apply.
           6. Some features require Apple’s iCloud services; fees and
               terms apply.
    Upgrading to Lion
If your computer does not meet the requirements to install Mountain Lion, it may still meet the requirements to install Lion.
You can purchase Lion by contacting Customer Service: Contacting Apple for support and service — this includes international calling numbers. The cost is $19.99 (as it was before) plus tax.  It's a download. You will get an email containing a redemption code that you then use at the Mac App Store to download Lion. Save a copy of that installer to your Downloads folder because the installer deletes itself at the end of the installation.
         Lion System Requirements
           1. Mac computer with an Intel Core 2 Duo, Core i3, Core i5, Core i7,
               or Xeon processor
           2. 2GB of memory
           3. OS X v10.6.6 or later (v10.6.8 recommended)
           4. 7GB of available space
           5. Some features require an Apple ID; terms apply.
    Upgrading to Mountain Lion
To upgrade to Mountain Lion you must have Snow Leopard 10.6.8 or Lion installed. Purchase and download Mountain Lion from the App Store. Sign in using your Apple ID. Mountain Lion is $19.99 plus tax. The file is quite large, over 4 GBs, so allow some time to download. It would be preferable to use Ethernet because it is nearly four times faster than wireless.
OS X Mountain Lion — System Requirements
Macs that can be upgraded to OS X Mountain Lion
             1. iMac (Mid 2007 or newer) — Model Identifier 7,1 or later
             2. MacBook (Late 2008 Aluminum, or Early 2009 or newer) —
                 Model Identifier 5,1 or later
             3. MacBook Pro (Mid/Late 2007 or newer) — Model Identifier 3,1 or later
             4. MacBook Air (Late 2008 or newer) — Model Identifier 2,1 or later
             5. Mac mini (Early 2009 or newer) — Model Identifier 3,1 or later
             6. Mac Pro (Early 2008 or newer) — Model Identifier 3,1 or later
             7. Xserve (Early 2009) — Model Identifier 3,1 or later
To find the model identifier open System Profiler in the Utilities folder. It's displayed in the panel on the right.
    Are my applications compatible?
See App Compatibility Table — RoaringApps.

  • Can't share final cut pro latest version across my macs.

I have purchased, for quite a bit of money, the latest Final Cut Pro for my macbook pro - 10.5.6, I think it is , -  I really find all these decimal numbers meaningless, confusing and difficult to remember.
Still, I want to share the purchased fcp app so I can use it also on my macbook air.
Trouble is, my macbook pro runs on snowleopard, and the macbook air, which I bought more recently runs on  mountain lion,.. no, just  Lion....
This latest version of FCP is not supported by Lion (10.7.4), so my macbook air can't download it.
The solution to this  problem may seem obvious to many, but I can't see it. And the problem is just nuts!
Any clues as to how to get my  - later version - macbook air to work with the latest version of Final Cut Pro would be much appreciated. Taa

    Lousy Fool
Sigh, the wink at the bottom really doesn't help you to get away with the patronism in your answer you know.
I know what OSX systems each of my macs run - 10.6.8 for the mcp and 10.7.4 for the mbair.
I don't want to "stress software update in the same apple menu" and move from 10.7.4 to 10.7.5, because its my understanding from researching reviews on this forum, and from my own experience that updating the operating systems on macs can cause hassle. If I am wrong in this then thats my learning.
Finally, with regards to my expectations, it was a trainer at an applestore , fully aware that I was using these two operating systems, who suggested I upgrade my final cut pro. My expectations were that he knew what fcps compatibilities were.
Finally, what kind of company releases an upgrage system is compatible with an earlier version of its own software (10.6.8), but not with a later one (10.7.4). I do have expectations of apple being better than this.
This is only the second time I've come onto an apple forum to ask a genuine question that foxes me, and the second time I've received the kind of reply that its intended to put one down. Be aware of how your answers come across please.

  • Update Samsung SSD Firmware on Mac

    Hello,
I am a proud owner of MacBook Pro i5 with a Samsung 128 SSD.
Recently, Samsung issued a firmware update. Normally, I'd have to take the SSD out, plug it into a SATA Windows machine, create bootable USB and update the firmware there.
Does anyone know any workaround on how to update SSD firmware on my Mac without having to plug SSD into windows machine? I recently found some blog about creating bootable WinXP CD and install firmware that way. I tried that, but it did not work, as I got some error messages while creating the BootCD and then the SSD updater from Samsung did not work...
I need this firmware because of TRIM support for Win7.
    Thanks in advance,
    Milan

Thanks for your answer, but thats not gonna happen, since the firmware needs to be started from a USB bootable disk. You cannot boot it off of BootCamp partition, since firmware update wipes all data from SSD.

  • E71 and Mac/Linux support

I have just found out that if you have bought a European/US E71 (as I did), and you do not have a PC (as I do, have a MacBook Pro with Mac OS X and Ubuntu), then there  are billions of things you cannot do, like e.g. updating your firmware.
    This is outright pathetic.
Linus Torvalds,  the creator of GNU/Linux, is Finnish, though Swedish speaker...
From now on I will search for a solution or for a way of wiping out Symbian, and replace it with something else.
We may like Nokia hardware, but as to software, you offer us really nothing...

    generalsunzi,
any developments on updating the firmware on a nokia e71 from a mac?  do you know whether you can use the nokia multimedia transfer app to do this?
As far as I can tell even the latest version of the Mac application (Nokia Multimedia Transfer) is completely useless to update the firmware.
Scandalously enough, you must still have a @!#! PC running Windows, to update.
I am trying to see whether Wine on Ubuntu and Parallels on Mac may help in running the update.
You should however note that, in accordance with the atrocious quality of Nokia software, the firmware update is destructive, i.e. it will wipe out all your E71 settings, so best try to backup them first.

  • How many luns does mac OSX support from a single target (array) is it 255??

How many luns does mac OSX support from a single target (array) is it 255?
For example, if using the Dual-channel 4Gb Fibre Channel PCI Express card?  Is it 255, 512 or higher?  I know it uses the ATTO driver, but I can't find any documentaiton about the upper limits of how many luns this HBA can address from a single target array on a SAN.  Thanks.

    Hi,
The card should be an ATTO 42ES whcih supports 255 LUNS per channel
Here's the info from the attached link
Consider the following Celerity FC host adapter guidelines:
    • ATTO 4-Gb and 8-Gb FC cards (PCI-X and PCIe only) are supported. • Latest HP-specific ATTO Celerity FC host adapter driver • Latest HP-specific ATTO Configuration Tool • A maximum of 256 targets per host adapter channel are supported. • A maximum of 255 logical unit numbers (LUNs) per host adapter channel are supported. • PowerPC- and Intel-based servers are supported.

  • Bootcamp on Mid-2012 MPB 15": This Mac only supports Windows 7

Hoping someone can help. I have a Mid-2012 MPB 15" (A1286). Bought it direct from Apple with a few extra add-ons (fastest CPU, 7200RPM 750GB drive, HD screen... not Retina).
Being an architect and developer I need to run Windows in Bootcamp from time to time. I have been having some issues running Windows 8 and recently saw that the latest Bootcamp should support it.
I have all patches applied yet when I run Bootcamp Assistant and get to the point of it starting I get a pop-up that states "This Mac only supports Windows 7." Then it asks if I want to continue. I have checked the support machines and mine is pretty much the latest MPB non-Retina model. What is going on?
I have 10.8.3 and I checked the Bootcamp Assistant version is 5.0.2.
Any help would be greatly appreciated. I want to make sure this goes well.
I have used Parallels but sometimes I really need to go native for tasks for performance.
    Thank you so much,
    Vince

    Shootist007,
Thanks... That's what I did (well not actually... I just ignored the warning...)... I posted this in response to someone else's thread but thought I would mention here:
I was able to get it working as far as I can tell. I just ignored the only Win 7 supported message and continued. Then I downloaded the latest BootCamp ZIP file from Apple and put it on a USB drive. I got through the Win 8 Pro install just fine. I then ran the BootCamp setup.exe from the USB drive and it did its thing.
That seemed to work OK except my machine was HOT. I mean REALLY hot. I found some others that said to install the actual Windows drivers for the Nvidia 650M so I did that. Machine cooled down a lot but the screen was SO dim. I couldn't use it well. It would be fine on the login screen and then after loging in DIM. I could use the Apple brightness keys (1, 2) just fine but it was set at 100% brightness (even though so dim) so no good. I poked around in Win 8 a bit and turned off the setting that has Windows choose your brightness for you. Now it works great!
Machine still gets warmer than when in OSX but livable I think.
Next step was to try and use Parallels to let me access the BootCamp partition from inside OSX. No go. During the process in Parallels 8 you get a warning that the OS isn't supported and it may screw up your licensing. Oh well. One step at a time.
