Latin American Keyboard for Thinkpad T40

Hi to all,
I am buying a lot of 20 thinkpads model T4X. And an issue appear, this is that the destination of all this lot is Peru. There they use the Latin America Keyboard distribution. I have been looking for this kind of keyboard (FRU 08K5058) but it seems that no one have it. I want to know if IBM still have this part in inventory or if they can refer me an reseller.
Thank you,
Luis

Is the keyboard layout on your computer identical to the one found using the link below (the one under Spanish (Latin America))?

Did you try the keyboard layout named "Latin American" in Windows?

  • Looking for US keyboard for ThinkPad X220

    Hi,
I bought a ThinkPad X220 with a Swiss keyboard, but I'd like to replace it with a "standard" US keyboard.
Can anyone help me confirm the part number, and perhaps suggest where to get one? I presume it's easy enough to replace, according to the instructions in the User Guide...
I did look on the Lenovo site under "Accessories" but of course they only list USB keyboards there.
    Thanks in advance!

Oh really? Do you know of any difference in the keyboard, or have any advice as to which one might be the "best" choice?
i've used all three on various models (T400s, T410s, W510, X220, external USB trackpoint keyboard, etc.) and personally prefer 45N2211.   it's the quietest of all three and feels the closest to older thinkpads.   if you prefer a more "clicky" keyboard then look for 45N2071.   of the one 45N2141 i tried, i didn't like the click of the mouse buttons as much.   however, this could have been a sample variation.
there is no best choice here though since everyone's preferences are different.   i've heard and read about an equal amount of praise and complaints surrounding each of the three manufacturers (NMB, chicony, and alps) and cannot say which you would like the most.
if you like what you have now in terms of feel, find out what FRU number you have and find the corresponding number in a US keyboard.   the chart you want can be found here: http://support.lenovo.com/en_US/detail.page?&LegacyDocID=MIGR-77194   lead_org's link above goes to a driver page rather than this one.

  • Backlit keyboard for Thinkpad

I am proud owner of IBM ThinkPad R51and it's working and in perfect condition.
Now I want a computer with backlit keyboard.
Dell’ are not that reliable and they heat a lot,
HP machines are for teens, movie lovers and chatterboxes.
Apple computers are for soft hands and people who love to show off.
I need a descent thinkpad with backlit with all the goodness of old trusty thinkpad.
    Can you suggest me some.

  • Spanish Keyboards for Bolivian Orphans

I am setting up a very basic computer lab for a Bolivian orphanage. I have a $1000 grant, I will cover the rest of the costs. I am looking at buying two Lenovo G550 2958A4U laptops (Newegg: http://tinyurl.com/ygoks92). My goal is to provide systems to help expose very poor 11-15 year old children to technology. I hope to make their interaction with these systems as fun and friendly as possible. My greatest worry is the US keyboards that come on these systems. I see 3 (reasonably normal) options:
    1. Replace keyboards manually with Latin American keyboards
    2. Buy USB wireless Latin American keyboards to supplement these systems.
    3. Require them to use keyboard shortcuts to type some Spanish characters.
    I have two questions:
    1. Where can I find Latin American keyboards for Lenovo G550 2958A4U laptops and how much do they cost?
    2. Do you have any better ideas?
    Optional background information-
The amount of physical material that I can move to the orphanage is very limited. It follows that laptops are preferable to desktops. I plan on installing Ubuntu 9.10 with the Latin American language pack. I will be the only IT person and I will only have remote access to the systems.
Thank you very much for your time and help,
    Daniel

if you buy laptop from ( spanish ) lenovo, spanish keyboard option is available but i'm not sure you can find any model you like to buy.
    shop.lenovo.com : spanish
if you can find keyboard module it costs about 40-120$.
so, i suggest you to call support line for this issue.

  • No Latin America Keyboards

It seems that there is no visible support for Latin American Keyboards, the closest thing is the Spain Layout, but of course, the use of this particular layout is annoying!... I really hope that someone can prove me wrong.

  • Keyboard Latin american spanish on w520

Hello I want to buy online in U.S. a workstation w520 but I can not configure the keyboard in Spanish or Latin American.
I was reading the forums and concluded that I would buy it separately and one of those listed on this site.
    http://www-307.ibm.com/pc/support/site.wss/MIGR-76723.html
    remain:
    Latin American Spanish
    45N2074
    45N2144
    45N2214
However, there are 3 different brands: Alps, Chicony, and NMB
(do not know that for each code)
I understand that Lenovo uses the same keyboard service parts for various systems Thinkpad
    Now some questions:
    1) Which is better?
    2) what is the difference between them? pros and cons
    3) Can anyone share images of some of them?
    3) Is it hard to replace?
    4) Do other systems that use these FRU?
    5) How much?
    6) Where did you buy?
thank you very much for your time.

  • I can't reinstall Windows Xp pro SP3 from installation disk on my IBM Thinkpad T40

    Dear folk,
I have bought used IBM Thinkpad t40 in Germany.
It has Windows XP in German, wich works well but it makes some dificulties while I am using some functions.
I decided to reinstall Windows XP Pro in English.
My Windows XP Pro CD instructed me to install XP from BIOS.
    This is how it works.
I got to BIOS by clicking blue button "IBM acsess".
I have got to BIOS released in 15/05/2003.
My Win XP Pro CD instructed me to press Delete to boot Cd-Rom and run Win XP installator.
Meanwhile, pressing "Delete" button did not produce any effect.
I got to Start up menu in BIOS, then I tried to run CD-Rom to run Windows XP from my installation CD.
But it has not produce any effect.
    System stayed still.
As result, I can not install Windows XP English version.
Please, hint me how can I reistall Windows XP English on my notebook.
May be something with old BIOS version and I has to update it?
Should I use other menu in BIOS for installation (actually I used all of them)?
    Or anything else? Please, advice.
Or I has to learn German? )))
    Looking forward for any help.
    Cheers
    Vittor

    Hi and welcome..
leave short your german XP on your T40 ... you need it to update BIOS..
first i prefer to update your BIOS ... Download this T40 BIOS
    Version: 1RETDRWW (3.23) Release Date: 2007/07/03
you see this is abit newer ... follow the instructions to update...if update is successfull...you can go in BIOS
look at tab startup ... change startup sequence so that DVD/CD Drive is on first place and usb-device on second and HDD on third you can move this via F5 / F6.. exit and save with F10 ...
Download all drivers that you need from this page and save them on extra USB Stick or external HDD...you will need this to complete your install after XP is fresh installed
    T40 Driver Table
Insert your English XP with SP3 in DVD/CD Drive and restart...
if a message comes press space to install from CD ...
follow the instructions.. delete (format drive C: where the german XP is ... and install XP in english..
when installation process is done... look at device manager you see many yellow questionmarks ..no installed drivers... Now use the pre-downloaded drivers from external HDD/USB Device... keep in mind that drivers are compressed when clicking on that the driver first deflates to c:\drivers\win\ [foldername]... sometimes you have to go in the correct folder and start setup to install it for real...
or you can install TVSU ThinkVantageSystemUpdater:
    TVSU
that helps you .. but in that case you have to install Wireless or Cable Network first...
i dont prefer this because at this time you dont have a antivirus program ..
a small and good advice is AntiVir you can freewareversion download here
    Free Antivir English
So good luck ...with fresh "english XP" on your T40...
    sincerely KalvinKlein

  • ThinkPad T40 Screen Problem

Hello. I have a thinkpad T40. Turns  on fine runs perfectly with out any faults until i move or shake the monitor part of the laptop, then the screen goes black. In order to get the video back in the monitor but the backlight stays on. Only the pictures is gone. i have to move the monitor part until the picture appears againg. Can any of you guys help please?

You may need a new LCD screen. As the cable is exposed on the bottom left side of the display. It is possible to be damaged. (I am currently working on a T40 for an uncle) I noticed that yesterday that it is a long black strip that is not covered by anything.

  • IBM Thinkpad T40 volume applet???

I have bought an old Thinkpad T40 recently and managed to install Arch and XFCE4 successfully.
Now I'm trying to get everything working.
My question is about volume applet (or maybe it has an other name?).
Initially I ran Ubuntu live CD on it and noticed nice window popping up (at the bottom of screen), when I pressed the volume buttons on keyboard.
Can I get something similar in Arch (XFCE4)?
Volume buttons work - they just visually don't change anything.
    Thanks in advance,
    Zig

    Thank you!
    Tpb does the trick.
But I still have one question.
There is a Archwiki entry Thinkpad OSD which says:
    ~/.kde/Autostart/tpb-startup.sh:
    # Start Thinkpad OSD daemon
    if [ -x /usr/bin/tpb ] && [ -w /dev/nvram ] && [ -r /dev/nvram ]; then
    /usr/bin/tpb -d
    fi
I'm Gnome user and can start /usr/bin/tpb -d from console, but it seems doesn't work when I add it to auto started applications.
What could be wrong in this case?
    Thanks,
    Zig

  • IBM ThinkPad T40 - Will not start up - Please HELP!

    Hi!
So, I have an IBM ThinkPad T40, and  for some reason it will not turn on, The Power Indicator is lit up, as is the battery indicator acknowledging that my computer is plugged in. It worked earlier today when I was at the public library (around 5pm-8pm) but now at 12am when I am attempting to turn it on, it looks as if it's turning on, but nothing happens. I can feel the hum of the mother board, as if it is booting up. Yet, the screen remains blank.
Does anyone know what I can do? I'm unemployed at the moment and use the computer to do art commissions for people, so it and Unemployment benefits are my only source of income. I can't really afford technical support. The computer was a gift from my mother, and  I'd really like it to continue working!
If you have a resolution please either reply, or contact me at [e-mail removed]

The first thing I'd do is connect an external monitor to see if that works. (Remember to use Fn-F7 to toggle monitor modes.) If an external monitor works then you've got an LCD-related problem, probably a defective inverter card or CCFL backlight.
