  • Request to launch Nokia N9 in India.

    Hi,
Have been a Nokia customer all my life. Now, I request Nokia to launch the Nokia N9 in India. Aware that Nokia killed this device, but Nokia sells it internationally in other countries even now. This is unfair to starve Indian customers the option of Nokia N9.
India has rated Nokia has the most trust worthy brand for over a decade I guess. So, I think that Indians need more options from Nokia, not monopoly. Nokia has already done such stock clearance in India with the Nokia N900. I believe that Nokia should do that with Nokia N9 too. It will be a great test to see if Indians like the option of Harmattan over Windows phone, Android and IOS.
Please realize that people like me don't have the money and resources to start a great cell phone company to make the device of my own wishes so that I can put the beloved Harmattan OS in it. It is upto Nokia to not waste its own brain child.
    Thank you.

Microsoft being the most loved [!] software vendor, I can guess how over 95% of market share was achieved. People consider Microsoft as a monopoly backed by biased legislation in the US. The people who support microsoft are usually the ones who profit from it in any small way. Very little consumers view Microsoft as good; mostly the one's whose eyes are clouded by the big n fancy numbers and cash that Microsoft shows them.
And by the way, Windows 8 will not reach there because, for that to happen, all business customers [majority of profit generators for Microsoft] should upgrade to it, which is unlikely in a time when most businesses just upgraded from Xp to Win7. Yes Win8 is selling like hot cakes... on new pre-installed computers, etc... Apart from the first month's upgradation SALE, I don't think anyone's gonna want to pay to upgrade to use a over-coloured  un symmetrical UI.
Thank you donofworld for your discussions; You sure are an optimist, realist, don-of-the-world-microsoft-visionary.
Don't worry about the SWIPE UI. Nokia will eventually sell it- probably one of its last ditch attempt, before Microsoft buys Nokia out.

  • Nokia Lumia 920 India Launch ! - Some Observations...

    Hi,
Being a Nokia fan for years .. I decided to write this .. I hope people at the right level from Nokia see this.
We all know Nokia Lumia 920 has probably hit all the right spots with Users abroad and the best thing is they are loving it a lot. I probably would like to be one of them soon.
    However I have certain concerns,
When Nokia launced Lumia in India people had high hopes including myself however one thing that I have always found going wrong is the 'PRICING' .. yes such insanely high pricing at launch .. why ? Look at the pricing of Lumia 800 at launch (around 33k) . Look at the pricing of Lumia 900 still (31k) ? .. Lumia 800 now sells around at the price of 19k !! - almost a 40% drop in price.
The basic thinking in the minds of people including me is 'Don't buy a Nokia phone immediately on launch !!'. Why can't this be changed ? - Yes everybody wants to earn profits but in a situation wherein you are more in search for Mindshare .. This does not make sense. Obviously I am no one to teach anybody anything but this is what I feel & what I have felt for years.
If I buy a Nokia Lumia 920 at launch only to find that after 3 months the pricing has come down by 3-5k .. I will not be a Happy Consumer.
Nokia - Launch Lumia 920 at a very competitive price (so that the likes of SGS3 & HTC 8x will feel ashamed) .. Arrive at a price & keep it steady for real long so that the initial adopters are happy & others come to know that Nokia's pricing is real good and will stay that way for long.
Nokia's Lumia are pretty good phones .. they never lag when compared to Android etc however they have not been well received by people here in India. The most common answer that I get is 'Bluetooth not there - can't transfer files' , 'Can't use memory card ' & 'Apps not available'.
Nokia - you have to change this mindset of people because with Windows Phone 8 these things are no longer hindrances ! .. especially Bluetooth & Micro-sd support.
I am expecting your Ads to have this .. be it on Radio or TV or Internet.
Can we have right people on the Job ? - Recently I went to Hypercity Mall (in Mumbai) (Nokia booth). I took in my hand a Lumia 510. I asked how much RAM ? .. to my surprise he answered 512 Mb .. and I was like What ? I asked him to recheck - still the same answer. He said we have confirmed. The phone actually comes with 256 Mb of RAM.
Now imagine what happens to a consumer who brought this phone from him ?
Nokia - Please get the right people at task for Nokia Lumia 920 & 820 because there you have got some real innovations like PureView, OIS, Wireless Charging etc. Ensure that users get the right demo of all the innovations. First impression will be the Last impression.
At Malls (without Nokia booths), the 2 phones Lumia 800 & Lumia 710 lonely guard the booths .. with rarely anybody there to explain about them. Just on the side of it I find Samsung's booth with all the latest flagships standing there & probably someone to explain about it - however Android needs no explanation these days will all aware about it (& even if not aware they know a phone with it is Cool!).
Nokia - Please set your own booths for Lumia (both WP8 & WP7) & assign one of your Guys per Booth. I really don't know the dynamics of setting up booth at a mall & the financial impact of it. All you need to do is differentiate your Lumia's from others.
Alternatively you can have a Lumia Van (or Lumia Vans) running around the City with all the possible Lumia's on it for doing Demo's. All Lumia's - since a person can come up to check a Lumia 510 too & not having a specific Lumia means Dissatisfaction for the user.
Nokia Lumia 920,820 & 620 are gem of a phones .. Hope everything is done right with them in a price sensitive market like India & I hope that Nokia you are listening to a User's opinion here.
Here's someone who wishes real good things for Nokia. Good luck with the launch of Nokia Lumia 920, 820 & 620. Desperately waiting !!

    Hi slon!
    Welcome to Nokia Forum!
Let me answer your question in the same manner you have presented it.
    1. How can I configure networking option for individual application (it was standard option before, see N8)
    - Can you tell me which particular application/s you are referring to? The phone prioritizes WLAN connection over 3G to ensure quality customer experience.
Example: Nokia Maps - when downloading map data, it would require you to use WLAN as phone would require high amount of data.
    2. Where can I find the option like: Automatic, Always ask, WLAN only when using access to data connection
    - These options are not available on the device. However, you can find some settings that are similar to what you are looking for:
Settings>Wifi>Tap on Advanced> you will have the following options:
Notify me when new networks are found
    Automatically connect to Wi-Fi hotspots
Send information about Wi-Fi connections to help discover nearby Wi-Fi
Keep Wi-Fi on when the screen times out

  • Nokia N9 in India

Can anybody say if Nokia is going to launch N9 in India? If it is, then I will wait; else I will order it from Singapore. Please shed some light on it.

    here is some 1000watts bulb:
mr. elop is sampling the market with N9. he's betting on lumia.india will give him a mixed reaction. india is a unique country. while india's population is the world's largest, (oh puhleez, china is another planet with its own internet), india's income is too wide ranged. the world's poorest and the world's richest are indians.
N9 may or may not become available in india. but if you are impatient, go there where it is available.

  • Fault Inherent Nokia N 81 launched by Nokia

I had bought a Nokia N 81 handset in July last year. Thehandset had been working quite well till recently. All of a sudden it has gotvarious problems with the keypad, starting from the keypad going crazy torestarting of the phone again and again and finally the complete keypad (exceptthe power button, the lock slider and 2 gaming buttons) stopped functioningcompletely.
Nokia Care people say the handset needs a change of the FlexCable which would cost Rs.2580 for the repairs. They won’t give any details ofthe problem more than this.
The reviews of the phone on the net suggest that this kindof problem DOES creep in at some time or the other in the lifetime of thedevice. There are instances of this problem just after a month usage.
Additionally, the reviews of Nokia Care centers give a hintabout their poor service. Most of the times, the customers were charged a heftysum, even if their phone was in warranty period. Also, the deadlines given tocustomers for the repairs were never met and they were kept waiting for months ata stretch. Reason given was that the parts were not available with themcurrently.
Even after repair, the handset develops the same problempretty soon, repeatedly and ultimately it is rendered Irreparable by the NokiaCare centre.
All this just suggests that this kind of problem is inherentto the device and is probably due to use of a faulty Flex Cable by Nokia. Itonly implies that Nokia launched this handset either without proper testing orgod knows why.
What has happened to Nokia..I dunno but m sure to file a petition with the Consumer's Court if they do not take a satisfactory action..SOON

I am from India and all your points are true about Nokia Care Point. You have no choice so go to there only. Also note that after warranty period, you cannot win at consumer courte for your hardware fault. You can file a petition there if they don't give or denie to give you proper service.

  • E-Mail Setup fails to launch on Nokia X6

    Hello folks,
On my Nokia X6, when I try to configure an email account using Nokia Messaging, Email setup fails to launch.
I tried configuring from "Messaging" and here after configuring, when I click on "Connect", it doesn't connect.
If I select Settings for an already created mailbox, from "Messaging" --> Options --> Email Setup --> Mailbox --> Google --> Settings, I get the following message "Messaging: Feature not supported".
Please help. Any advice would be appreciated.
    Thanks
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

I myself found the resolution found on other discussion threads,
Do one of the following ( 2nd Option worked for me, Remember to take backup before going with the 2nd option as it erases all contacts)
Try resetting the phone here is codes back up data
start from top and work down
    1. *#7780# - Restore factory settings - resets all the settings to the default ( you will not lose any data)
Make sure you back up your data as you will lose all of it when you perform option 2 or 3 on this list. The default code for all operations listed here is 12345
    2. *#7370# - Reformat your phone
    3. This you perform as a last resort. Nothing else is working. If the phone is not showing any activity, proceed with hard formatting , turn off your phone, hold the following buttons while pressing the power button. (the default code is 12345)
hard reset - hold the following buttons *, 3 (number button) and talk/green key. turn on the phone and do not release those buttons until you see the Nokia boot up screen. once you feel the phone power up you can let go off the power button while still holding all three buttons ( for Nokia 5800XM - use the following buttons to do a hard reset, GREEN/RED/CAMERA keys pressed all at once on power up. this will only work on 5800's that have firmware version 20... and up. )

  • Nokia Music 2.0 released under Nokia Apps in India...

    https://dl.dropbox.com/s/lmorne5ezf0g8vl/m1.jpg
NOTE: If I sideload the application from using xap  for v2.0 which is available for download on the net, It works fine, but official version not working, and not only me, if you check the reviews on market place, all of them are having same problem. Why there is no testing before publishing it on the market?
    Thanks
    Saugata

I found a partial fix, not form Nokia, I tried it, and it works
    HOW TO MAKE IT WORK:
    1. If already Installed, Uninstall Nokia music first.
    2. Now goto settings, and change region to UK, and restart the phone.
    3. After restart, goto market and download the application.
    4. After completing the installation, open Nokia Music.
    5. This time you can open it without any problem.
    6. Now again goto settings, and change region to India, and restart the phone.
    7. Enjoy Nokia Music.
**Few options are not working properly, you will get some error, like My account showing 'Nokia Music Unlimited' but I can't download any songs, it's showing error
**This is only works once, after some time, it's again started showing same error. Nokia can only solve this..
    Thanks

  • GPS non-functional on out of box Nokia E90 in Indi...

    Hi,
GPS isn’t working on my father’s Nokia E90. Apparently, it can’t find GPS satellites. I haven’t installed any Nokia or 3rd party software. All I have on the phone are the default, out of the box packages. How do I start troubleshooting GPS? Please help.
    Connection: Vodafone India, Kolkata.

Try checking whether it has Assisted GPS (A-GPS) enabled, the standard set up takes ages (up to an hour on mine) to lock onto satellites.
    To do this:
Tools -> Settings -> General -> Positioning (at the bottom) -> Positioning Methods
Enable "Assisted GPS" and disable "Integrated GPS". Mine finds and locks on to satellites with a minute.
If you don't have A-GPS listed, a firmware update might be needed to get hold of this setting.
I have full End User experience of:
    5510, 3210, 3310, 3510, 3510i, N80, N80IE, 7610, 2610, 1208 and current E90.

  • Nokia 207 in india

    Hi,
When is nokia 207 set to release in india, i work in a company where camera phones are not allowed and i need a phone with whats app.
    Regards,
    ravi

    Welcome to Discussions, cherukurirk.
The Nokia 207 is only available in selected markets. The current Nokia model which does not have an inbuilt camera is the Nokia 130 - although it can't run whatsapp. Your option is to acquire a 207 overseas or to look for a Nokia E51, E50 (camera free units).
    Good luck

  • Latest Firmware version for Nokia 5800 in India?

I am currently using a Nokia 5800 with firmware version v50.0.001.
I have installed the latest Nokia Suite (3.7.22) and it reports that there are no firmware updates available. I tried to find the updates using the Menu->Applications -> S.W Updates as well. This doesn't report any firmware updates either.
But the Nokia India page for 5800 states that the latest version is 60.
Latest software release for Nokia 5800 Xpress Music is 60.0.003
New, faster version of the web browser, including web search integrated into the web address field, and support for multiple windows and web addresses containing non-Latin characters
New Big clock feature, displaying the time and date when you press the menu key, if the screen and keys are locked
    Ovi Contacts removed
    Usability improvements
    Performance improvements
How do I update to the latest firmware?
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

Availability of update depends on Product Code / Region. Also, for Network locked devices, update is possible only after an approval from the Operator. Seems oone of these is preventing you from getting the update. As both FOTA nad Nokia Suite is not providing you with the update there is nothing that you can do except asking your local Nokia Care whether they can help you ...

  • Nokia 5235 update - India

I have nokia 5235 and ver 21.6.005 installed on my phone I have tried updating the software using Nokia Suite 3.2 and Nokia PC Suite 7.1.62.1 and it says the version installed is the latest verion and no updates are available. But In Nokia India site I see ver 50.x as the latest version.
The following are my phone details
    Model 5235
    Type RM-588
    Product Code 0598716
Why Nokia Suite or PC Suite doesnt show me the latest available update.
I have taken the phone to the nearest Nokia Care and even there it does not show the latest available update. But Nokia care say that they can update it to the latest version but I need to pay.
Why should a customer pay even for getting the software updated.  I have not seen any phone OS (Android, Apple)  who charge for the update.  Is Nokia the only one which charge for the updates.
If I would have know this earlier I would definetly not buy it.

Your post is dated Dec 2011, but right then I had v 51.6.002 on my 5235. And the version date shows as 19-10-2011.
Its showing me another firmware update available since last week of January 2012, but I am not updating as a friend of mine said that he got some new icons and firmware in updates (he had c6-00 that came with a similar OS S60). Well, i do not like this new icon set being used by nokia so I refused to update any more, that was my personal choice.
And yes, Nokia MUST charge you if your phone is out of warranty. Its not for the OS update, but because you are using their resource i.e. their service centre. I went to their service centre a couple of times for updating but it was done free. Once I went for warranty extension and the guy opened up my phone and cleaned it properly in front of me internally within a few minutes, even though I didn't ask him to do. It was good experience with nokia. If you need free updates, use the update option in your phone or Nokia Suite. You mentioned a few products but please note that they will also charge you if you visit their service center with an out of warranty product.

  • QuickOffice 6 does not launch on Nokia c5

I've bought a Nokia C5, firmware version 32.010, with QuickOffice 5.3 and Adobe Reader LE 1.5 installed. After a firmware update using the NokiaSoftwareUpdater to version 61.005, the Adobe Reader LE 1.5 is still working but the QuickOffice, which was upgraded to 6.2.439 I think, refuses to launch either by starting the application directly or by opening any office file document, and shows me a "System Error" message.
Is this an issue with the firmware?? How can I solve it??

im also having the same problem... I tried to reset but still same. im helpless...
