Launch pad turns dock auto hide on

On my MacBook Air every time I use launch pad my dock auto hide feature gets turned on. To see my dock again I have to turn auto hide back off. Why is launch pad turning auto hide on? And how do I fix this?

In System Preferences > Dock, do you have "Automatically hide and show the dock" checked?  If so, uncheck it.

  • A How to turn off auto hide tools/panles

So Flash 9 has a new feature that is annoying me : it likes
    to auto hide the tools/panels.
apparently Flash is turning this feature on at at random. I
realize that I must be accidentally hitting some hot key that turns
it on, but I can't find how to stop it. It's rather annoying.
How do I disable the auto-hide for the tools and panels?

Just go to settings, view, toolbars autohide.

  • How can I turn off auto-hide menu bar in Terminal app?

This is soooo anoying.   Open terminal app in fullscreen mode, open a few tabs, now when you move your mouse to the top to click on a new tab, the menu bar shows itself and covers the tabs.
I want to turn off this feature to auto-hide the menu bar.  I would much rather have it move all the tabs down a bit when the menu bar apprears.
Any ideas to help fix the issue?

Can't turn that off. It's a feature of full screen mode. If you place your mouse at the bottom of the tab you want to select, the Terminal Menu bar doesn't pop up for me.

  • Dock auto-hides, despite preference setting

An odd occurence with my MBP Retina.  Despite the "Automatically hide and show the Dock" preference being UNchecked, my dock still auto-hides, but only when I click on stacks under certain circumstances.  So, this doesn't happen when the stack is set to show as List; only when set to show as Grid or Fan.  Then, when I single-click on a Grid or Fan stack, the dock will always auto-hide after losing focus.  Does anyone else with a MBP Retina have this problem?  I'm using the latest software to date, OS X 10.8.3.

If CT's suggestion didn't work, try resetting the dock.
Try doing a Dock restart using the following Terminal command:
    killall Dock
Log out/in and test. If that doesn't work.
You need to look in your user Library/Applications Support/Dock for the .db. Hold down the option key while using the Finder “Go To Folder” command. Enter ~/ Library/Applications Support/Dock.  Move the .db to your desktop.
If you prefer to make your user library permanently visible, use the Terminal command found below.
    http://osxdaily.com/2011/07/04/show-library-directory-in-mac-os-x-lion/
You might want to bookmark the command. I had to use it again after I installed 10.8.4. I have also been informed that if you drag the user library to Finder it will remain visible.

  • Dock auto-hide busted

My dock function no longer works. This started, I believe, with the recent security fix. I can use the dock if I unhide, but I lose the dock all together when I hide. I tried deleting com.apple.dock.plist but it di dnot help. Any ideas?

    BTW,
Are you are running quickilver? I had the same problem and it was that the "autohide applications when switching" checkbox was selected in the quicksilver preferences. So for those folks out there searching for this problem's solution, don't forget to check the quicksilver preferences.

  • Dock auto-hide within an app

I'm using Word for mac, and when the program opens, the dock and toolbar disappear. They re-appear when using other apps. How can I stop this from happening in Word? Thx in advance

The top pic is my mac when I'm working in any app, the one below is what happens as soon as I click within WordforMac.
It's got me stumped too! I did read before posting that it's possible to do this by writing some sort of plist in terminal, and applying it to a particular app, but that's way beyond me I'm afraid!

  • Dock Auto-Hiding always stops working

This has become very frequent. I do not know if it is conflicting with something else I have done similar to the Stuffit bug (when stuffit crashes finder on a right click every 5 clicks or so) .
My dock just simply will not re-appear. I normally go to Utilities, Activity Monitor then quit the dock process which will reload it.
Does anyone know why my dock stops working properly so often? Anyone else have a similar issue with the dock auto-hide feature stops working (it simply does not reappear on mouse over).
I use an external dell monitor, a wacom intuos 3 6x11 tablet and an e-sata express card if those addons could attribute to the problem.
    Thanks in advance!

Does the problem go away without these devices connected?

  • Auto-hide dock

is there a way to make the menu bar auto-hide like the dock does so that it only appears when the mouse is over it?

It is technically possible to modify an individual application so that its menubar "autohides" by adding an 'LSUIPresentationMode' with an integer value of "4" to its "Info.plist" file or "plst" resource... with apps that have an "Info.plist" file, the change can be made easily with a text editor. However, overall, since it is an application specific effect, it isn't really practical. Also, visually, the menubar may be hidden, but because of their behaviour in OS X, windows resist occupying the space where the menubar would be so there isn't really a gain in screen real estate.
But just to demonstrate, try copying "TextEdit.app" from the "/Applications" folder to your "Desktop", then launch "/Applications" > "Utilities" > "Terminal.app" and enter these commands:<pre>defaults write ~/Desktop/TextEdit.app/Contents/Info LSUIPresentationMode -int 4
    chmod +r ~/Desktop/TextEdit.app/Contents/Info.plist
touch ~/Desktop/TextEdit.app</pre>Then launch the app. If there is no change, try to ⌘D duplicate the app, and launch the copy.

  • Dock not showing in auto hide

    Hi,
My dock is set to auto-hide, and I am using spaces. however my dock does not always show when in put my cursor at the bottom, I have to swap to and from another space to get the dock to show or unhide.
My hot corners are also not working.
    any suggestions, spaces bug?
    Thanks

could be a bad preference file.
move the file homedirectory/library/preferences/com.apple.dock.plist to the desktop. then restart dock by entering the following in terminal
    killall Dock
this will reset your dock to the default and might fix the problem.

  • Why do some Apps(programs) appear in my dock, but not in my launch pad?

I recently downloaded Open Office and Adobe Photo Shop 12 .  Photo shop appears in both my dock and launch pad.  However Appace Open Office just appears in my dock, but not my launch pad, and also the open office little disk or cd reader icon (white 3d rectangle with image of black slot in front) appears on the right side of my screen.  I can't eject it because I get a popup that says it is being used by "Open Office" and I have to quit the application to eject it.  My question is if I quit the application using "Command" Q and then eject "Open Office" will I loose open office and have to downlad it again?
I think I answere my question.
I clicked on the Open Office Icon in my dock, had it go to "Finder" then ejected the "Open Office" disck reader icon and it went away from my screen.
I then went to "Finder" and opened it up and Lo and Behold "Open Office" disappeared from there too. Boy that sure is crappy.
    So I downloaded it again.
Is there anyway to clean up the desktop so I don't have those silly images hanging around?

There have always, well for the past few years, written installers that just create a mess.  All installed applications should appear in Finder, Applications.  Not all of those will appear in Launchpad.  When you encounter one that does not appear in the correct way, all you can do is manually move things around so it is consistent with the way apps should work.

  • On restart Launch Pad, Reminders, App Store and Notes appears back on Dock

I have installed Mountain Lion and loving most of the features.
I am using the five finger pinch shortcut on the trackpad to get to the Dashboard.
Its a great feature so now I have deleted all my apps on the dock.
Instead I have put my many folders on the dock.
However, on restart of my macbook pro the Launch Pad, Reminders, App Store and Notes appears back on dock
Is there a way I can switch this annoying push to have to use Apple apps on the dock?

I noticed it sometimes happened when I am on Lion.
I don't use all the Apple software, and some never even opened them to use.
But they end up back on my dock again which is super annoying.

  • Dock not hide in auto mode

I have the pref set to auto hide but the dock doesnt - was told to trash
    ~/Library/Preferences/com.apple.dock.plist
    and restart.
This USED to work but doesnt any more - HONEST!!  Can anybody help me??
    Running latest Mavericks, 10.9.1.

    Ricoricordo,
Before you begin another post, I have a couple of comments/questions.
Can you correlate the question mark to any missing application?
I would recommend that you drag the question mark off of the dock, and reattempt the plist removal.
Any plist files that you drag to the Desktop can be trashed.
If those steps are not successful, Create another User Account and name it Test User. If the Dock works in that new account, I recommend that you follow the checklist in Resolving Disk, Permission, and Cache Corruption, by Dr. Smoke.
If you are still having the problem after following that checklist, you can post a new question using the "Post New Topic" link on this page.

  • Launch pad is not on the dock

I was informed to go to Finders and click on launch pad, and I did and the launch pad opened, but it does not automatically go to the dock, and I can't find a way to get it there.

    Hey louis1949,
Thanks for the question. After reviewing your post, it sounds like you want to add an item to the dock. I would recommend that you read this article, it may be able to help you resolve or isolate the issue.
Mac Basics: The Dock holds your favorite apps, documents, and more
If you want to add a file or folder to the Dock, just drag its icon from any Finder window (or the desktop) and drop it on the Dock.

    Hi Abdu,
Inorder to enable your instant mesaging and other activities in the launch pad enable the RTC and collaboration lauch pad property of the tool area iview in the innerpage.Automatically then you should get all the link to activities.
also you can hide some of the properties if you donot want to show them in the CLP.
