Launch Photo Booth Automatically

I am planning on using photo booth for my wedding but I dont want the guest to have access to my keyboard. So I was planning on having photobooth up and running already, but wanted a USB button that will automatically launch it to take the pictures while it is already up and running. Anyone know of a product that can do this?

I have never seen or tested anything like this being used, but perhaps something from this search will meet your needs:

Photo Booth is a very limited application, but you may be able to use Automator or AppleScript to create some way to connect a snapshot app to your USB Button:

  • Photo Booth Automatically Opens

I just purchased a new Mac Book and installed Leopard. Whenever I turn on my computer, photo booth automatically opens. How can I get this to not happen?

Click and hold on the Photo Booth icon in the Dock, and uncheck Open at Login from the menu which appears. Alternatively, remove it from the list of login items for your account in the Accounts pane of System Preferences.

  • Photo Booth launch problem

Photo Booth refuses to open when not used for a short period of time -- maybe about an hour. The Dock icon bounces a while, and then there is a long pause with nothing . Pretty much very thing is frozen with the rotating color wheel appearing when trying to get to the Apple Menu. Finally a dialog box comes up stating "The application Photo Booth quit unepectedly." -- Ignore, Report, Relaunch. Hitting "Relaunch" results in the same dialog box appearing again. Hitting "Relaunch" one more time gives the options "Do not relaunch", "Reset and relaunch", and "Relaunch". Hitting "Reset and relaunch" finally launchs Photo Booth. I can quit it and open it a few minutes later, and all is fine. If I wait awhile longer, it goes back to original nonfunctional mode, and I have to repeat the whole process to get it to launch.
Does anyone know how to fix this issue? I have reported it to Apple.

I am wondering if it is a Font Issue.
Certain Fonts are needed to be Active by the System and by certain apps to work properly

  • Photo booth unable to initialize logitech C910 webcam on first launch

When I try to open the Photo Booth application, the camera cannot be initialized, the image shows a spinning white circle. But if I launch the Logitech Webcam Software, and allow the image to show, then quit LWS and now I launch Photo Booth, the camera is now working.
I guess that this is a Lion Bug, since before upgrading to this version, on Snow Leopard the Photo Booth showed the image as soon as the app was launched.
How can I summit this bug to Apple?
Does anyone have the same issue and found a fix for this besides opening Photo Booth twice or launching the Logitech Software before PB?

    Hi Paul,
Some feedback is easier than others.
For instance iChat has it's own page http://www.apple.com/feedback/ichat.html
Photo Booth is one of those few Apple apps that does not have a Feedback page of that sort.
I would ask in Discussions Feedback stating how the problem occurred and how to repeat it. Some one there may be able to point to a better place for a specific feedback.

  • Photo booth library broke my image links!

originally i had snow leopard when i started using omnifocus to work on a project. i often took pictures of concept drawings using photobooth and then linked them to the omnifocus document where they applied.
now that i've updated to lion, photo booth has tied all those images up into a library instead of the regular folder, which has broken all my links. i know i could just open the show the library package's contents and copy out the images, but we're talking abour relinking a few hundred images by hand. pain in the donkey.
anybody have any ideas how to fix this? i guess apple didn't think about that potential issue, huh?

I did not have the problem that you describe when upgrading my Macs, but here is what I would do if I did:
Quit all apps and restart Mac.  Then open your Home Finder > Pictures folder, and double click on the Photo Booth Library item.  Photo Booth should launch and automatically use the images in your Photo Booth Library.   You can test that by quitting Photo Booth and re-launching the app to be sure it still connects to your proper library.
If the above does not work, I suggest you use OS X Recovery to reinstall OS X Mavericks.  Launch Photo Booth to see if the problem is resolved.
If nothing suggested here works, perhaps you can get help from some of the topics in this search.
BTW, your posted OS X Mavericks (10.9.1) system info is out of date if you have applied the current Mavericks 10.9.2. version  You can update your system info in seafaring's Products when you are logged into Apple Discussions.

  • Photo Booth not opening

I attempted to open Photo Booth tonight and get the following error message: "Photo Booth cannot open becase no camera is attached or the camera is in use by another application. Make sure you digital video camera is properly attached and turned on. If you are using the camera with another application, close that application before trying to open Photo Booth again."
Has anyone else received this error message? I have a built-in camera on my iMac and no other applications are using the camera. Thanks

Tyler- thanks for the advice (more than I am getting from the Apple folk here- they just send me replacements! Really getting tiring- I have three MacBook Pros sitting here and NONE of them work! And NO- I am still running 10.4.6 as there is no POINT in upgrading till one of them works!) but in MY case it didn't work.
I had this problem from the outset- pulled MBPro out of box, started up, configured and transferred hard drive over and voilas- an error message when trying to launch Photo Booth to test the camera and restarting to manage to launch it, only to see me (looking harrassed) for two seconds before it fades to black once more.
Nothing is helping- not removing the battery, not using your clever idea (honestly- thanks. At least I can rule out one more bit of advice!) or "ougt"
    Sigh...
As for power surges... Hmmm... How can that be? There haven't BEEN any YET- both the replacement and the replacement of the replacement were less than an hour old! The original DID have a working camera with 10.4.7 (replaced it within a week and just as they brought out the 4.8 update so none are running it).
Sadly I fear that that is just one of those glib pseudo "tech" bamboozlers you were fed!
Glad you are sorted though- makes me hopeful that there IS a solution out there!

  • Photo Booth not working anymore

I have a USB cam that used to work well with Photo Booth using iChatUSBCam, but not for longer than a minute in an actual iChat video conference. I updated to iUSBCam recently, and now iChat video works well, but now all I get is a blank black screen in Photo Booth. The camera works in every other expected application but only turns on it's light in Photo Booth. Could it have something to do with updates in Leopard? I'm running 10.5.2 on a PB G4 15". It's frustrating when I know that the camera did work in Photo Booth, and now it doesn't!

    Welcome to Apple Discussions, Bro4U
    (1) iUSBCam effects only iChat, so your Photo Booth problem must be a separate issue. If you haven't recently repaired permissions and/or restarted your Mac, do so now. Then test whether your Photo Booth works correctly.
    (2) If Photo Booth is still the ONLY app that does NOT work properly, quit Photo Booth. Then delete the Photo Booth Preferences file (com.apple.photobooth.plist) from your Home / Library / Preferences folder. Then launch Photo Booth again and see if the problem is corrected.
    (3) If none of the above helps and you need to post back for other suggestions, determine whether your problem is application-specific and/or user-specific by using the relevant steps from How to Troubleshoot iSight. Along with any other relevant information you choose to post, please include the following specifics:
(3.a) the make and model of your webcam,
(3.b) the name of EVERY app you tested that work correctly with your webcam,
(3.c) the name of EVERY app you tested that does not work correctly with your webcam, and
(3.d) whether the problem is EXACTLY the same in every user account you tested.
If necessary, we will offer specific suggestions based on the details in your response.

  • Question; is anyone else having problems using photo Booth?

Hi Lion users!  I have been looking through the forum posts looking for anwsers to some of the wrinkles that I have come across after installing OS Mac os x v10.7.
Not that it is my biggest worry but for some reason when I launch Photo Booth, I get an error message "Photo Booth couldn't save your photos" "Photo Booth encountered an error when trying to save your photos. Your photos cannot be saved at this time."
I don't see the camera in the system profile, this can't be possible?
The application opens fine and I can see that the i Sight camera picks up images but the error message pops up the minute that I try and click the shutter button. The built in iSight camera appears to be working with other applications i.e. iChat and I have reset the SMC/PMU.
I would appreciate any insight or suggestions!

Problem solved for anyone that understood this and was looking for some answers. Thanks goes to maahs_k wish it was not archived so that I could reward you with some points!

  • Photo Booth Problem

I have an external iSight camera connected to my Mac Mini, and it works wonderfully with iChat AV. However, I want to work wonderfully with Photo Booth....
When I launch Photo Booth, I can see a picture in the window, however, when I select Effects 1, some of the previews of the the different effects disappear and then re-appear (they kind of flash). Even if I choose and effect that I can still see, when I return to the main window, the screen's black/blank > a black/blank photo. If I select Effects 2, NONE of the previews appear. I CAN click on any/all of the effects, but the screen is black and I can't get anything to appear in the main window.
BUT, if say I select "Comic Book" in Effects 1 or "Fisheye" in Effects 2 > quit Photo Booth > relaunch > I see whatever iSight sees with the Comic Book effect, and I can take a picture. It's just when I go to the effect options and then return to the main window that I run into problems.
I've pitched Photo Booth preferences to no avail, and that's about all I know how to do. Any ideas?

System updates have taken care of this problem--i guess the program on the MacMini was just a bit buggy.

  • Photo Booth effects disappeared

Just got a new hard drive installed on my MacBook and passed it down to my sister. She launched Photo Booth and some of the effects I had before are missing. I'd never installed additional effects and the same OS is running. Where did they go and how do I get them back?

If you can find it via the spotlight search screen then it's still on there somewhere and it also means that it's not hidden via restrictions. You've checked all your homescreens and app folders for it, and how many homescreens have you got - there is a maximum of 11 after which apps are only accessible via the search screen (though you can use app folders to make more apps 'visible').
You could try Settings > General > Reset > Reset Home Screen Layout which will re-arrange your apps and might make it easier to find.

  • Photo Booth and hard reset

Recently I wanted to show my friend photo booth. I chose it from the dock, but it kept jumping without coming on. I launched activity monitor to see if something wasn't eating my RAM, but it showed only photo booth in red. I then tried to force quit it, but it didn't quit. Suddenly a beachball appeared and kept spinning and spinning.... until I had to go. So I did a hard reset, because none of the applications responded. After half an hour I turned it on and the same thing happened again. What shall I do? How can I check what happened? (i.e. history of the system) Plus how can I check whether my OSX is instaled properly and I don't need to reinstal it. I adore this computer, but I shouldn't be afraid to launch photo booth.
P.S. I had to do a hard reset on my last wincomp after a month, not after a week. This certainly isn't what I call stable. Thank you for any suggestions.

  • Photo Booth won't load after upgrade to Leopard

I just upgraded 4.5 year old iMac from Tiger (10.4x) to Leopard (10.5.8) and now Photo Booth (v.2.0.3) doesn't load. Any suggestions?

Hi BDAqua- Just tried your suggestion and got nothing while launching Photo Booth, but there were messages from earlier attempts. I'm going to attach a screen capture here of Console to see if you can understand them.
To give you a little more info, The Photo Booth screen appears on my daughter's iMac, but she just gets the spinning beach ball so we force quit.
