LaunchCast (Yahoo) on the Mac
Someone must know a way to make this work? LaunchCast is great, but if I cant access it on my mac, what's the point?
I know that they say only PCs and Mac OS9 work, but some smart mac addict must have figured out a way around this.

Question
I want to eliminate an autofill choice that pops up when I sign into yahoo using the Firefox browser. I tried yahoo help which said hover over the unwanted line and press delete, but that did not work. Do you know how I can get rid of this autofill? I am using a Mac if that makes a difference. I have tried to make my Microsoft Office for MAC's OUTLOOK program work as the default email system. But ATT/Yahoo says its service is not compatible with the MAC version of Microsoft Outlook... Has anyone been able to make it work? I can't change my ISP right now.

That error message means that you are trying to download the file to a folder that you don't have access to write files to. Try changing the default Downloads location (via Safari Preferences) to your Desktop and retry the download. -
when I receive word documents via my yahoo on my mac, the format always come up as a TEXTEDIT doc. This is causing me serious problems. How do I enable my documents to open in the original format it was sent?
Do you have Microsoft Word installed on your Mac? If so, you can reassign all .doc files to Word by selecting the file in Finder and choosing "File > Get Info" from the menu. In the window that opens look for "Open with" and change the entry to "Microsoft Word".

Can someone tell me why the Yahoo mail server (IMAP) keeps requesting my Yahoo email password and says it's incorrect? Yahoo is my Mac mail server. This has happened before, but this time I can't get it to 'Cancel'.

Once and for all: MSN VIDEO chat on the mac... can it work?
the situation: my friend in France uses an msn account on a PC with the latest version of windows live or some such. I'm in the states on my blackbook. I set up a shiny new msn account, hoping to connect up to him. I've tried adium, msn mac, mercury, and ichat, and nothing will let me connect to his cam, or him to mine.
so here's the golden question: can a mac user, as of right now, video chat with a PC user through the MSN network? if so, and if this is a waste of a new post, please direct me to the instructions. please do not tell us to sign up for AIM accounts, like I saw in another post.
if it's not possible, please explain why not. is it microsoft's msn client for the mac that's about 3 versions behind the pc one? is it a protocol issue? why is this so impossible? is it a social thing, i.e. europeans use msn and PCs and americans use AIM/yahoo and macs? I'm baffled.It IS possible for a Mac user to do video with people using MSN/Windows Live messenger on Windows, but not possible to do audio.
To do video you will need either Mercury or aMSN. I haven't used either of these, and wouldn't touch the MSN service with a barge-pole, so can't give instructions on how to set it up, but both of them do have video capabilities. As i said though, neither do audio, so unless both participants know sign-language it may be of limited use.
The reason why it is not possible is both a protocol issue and a Microsoft one.
MSN uses secret, proprietary protocols for their service which means that anyone wanting to interoperate with the service has to reverse engineer the protocols and then implement them (and Microsoft can of course move the goal posts at any time by changing the protocols in a new version).
It's a Microsoft problem because they simply aren't interested in developing no cost applications for the Mac, as evidenced by the dropping of both IE and Windows Media Player for OS X (it wouldn't surprise me if Messenger gets dropped by the end of the year), so MSN Messenger lags well behind the Windows version and lacks many of its features.
The situation with MSN/Windows Live Messenger is unlikely to change until Microsoft switches to the IETF standard for IM, XMPP. It may be years before Microsoft switches but it will have to eventually as XMPP is the daddy in enterprise IM and becoming increasingly popular in the consumer space with services such as Google Talk, Gizmo (IM portion) and Live Journal (among thousands of others) utilising it.
Fortunately iChat already supports XMPP (Jabber) for IM, although doesn't yet use the XMPP standards for video or audio (though i'm still hopeful this will change with Leopard), so once MS switches you should be able to set it up in iChat. But like i said, it may take years before all the major IM companies converge on XMPP as the protocol of choice.
Anyway, if you're just interested in video AND audio chats between Windows and Mac OS X you don't have a lot of choices. There's the AIM/Trillian Pro <-> iChat route that you don't want to take, there's the Skype route (much as i loath Skype) which seems to be the preferred option among other forum posters here, and there are a few other alternatives too which i haven't paid much attention too, but there is currently NO way to do both video AND audio between Mac OS X and Windows using MSN/Windows Live.
Or i suppose you could wait for Leopard and hope that Apple provides MSN functionality but i suspect you'd be disappointed.
Not the answer you were looking for i'm afraid but i hope my post helps you find an alternative solution. Don't forget to send feedback to Microsoft and demand they switch to XMPP in MSN/Windows Live Messenger. The more requests the better. ^_^ -

Having problem with emoji, I have the character palette shortcut on my dock which I found through article from Cult of the Mac. I click on the emoticon and drag it to my email or whatever and get a blue box - no emoji. I tried the keyboard shortcut - doesn't work. I tried the drop down the menu in edit - doesn't work either. I am running Lion and want to upgrade to Mountain Lion. Want to fix this before I upgrade or should I just upgrade and hope for the best? Been all over the net looking for solution.

blueheron11Pages does not support the Apple font used for color emoji, so that behavior is normal.
With what app are you reading the yahoo mail? There is really no guarantee than any other email service will show the special Apple font involved.
You should have no problem putting emoji directly into Mail or Text edit via drag drop from the Character Viewer as shown below.
You should also be able to upload graphics here easily by clicking on the camera icon. My email is tom at bluesky dot org. -

i just wanna know how to run a mac version of yahoo messenger. im a new user of mac thats why i dont know how to run ym using mac. i already downloaded mac version of yahoo and i can sign in as my yahoo id, but the problem is i cannot make a call, play a games, share a photo and even my cam cannot be viewed and i also cant view the cam of my chatmate. there are many features of yahoo messenger in windows version that mac version doesnt have. i also cannot connect to a chat room. do i really need to install a parallel desktop for me to run the yahoo messenger smoothly.
hope some one who knows how to use mac help me about this issue.

mwahhhh.....I just tested Messenger for Mac, which I just downloaded because of your question. I had no problem getting my recently bought Macbook laptop with Leopard to engage and send a webcam picture to a Yahoo messenger account using Windows XP yahoo messenger on the other account's computer. I did not test all the features, just typing an IM and sending a webcam picture from my built in laptop webcam on this Macbook over to a computer with Windows XP. All I had to do after installing and logging in was go to WEBCAM / Start Broadcast etc. It worked fine.
I used the Mac Leopard OS on the Macbook and do not yet have windows added to my macbook but am thinking about how to get it because of the need to occasionally use Internet Explorer on certain websites. -
I use dial-up, FireFox 5.0, Yahoo addition 1.8. My screen load times have slowed down to a crawl. I have to wait and wait for a page to load. I'm having the same problem. Dreamweaver is supper slow. Uploading and downloads from the server... any server I use two different servers. It times out all the time. Menus are slow too.
I'm on a MAC Pro, 6 gigs of ram no issues with anything else. I have talked to Apple they have checked everything for me. They say it's Dreamweaver. I've noticed the Dreamweaver is talking to the FTP even when I'm not doing anything.
I've tried cleaning out my MAC caches, turning off file check and check out. Still really slow. I've worked with Dreamweaver for 6 years never any issues like this before. 18 seconds to upload a 4 kb file. 11 seconds to download the same file. -

You need a unique AppleID for each iCloud account. So grab some free gmail, hotmail, aol, yahoo or whatever email addresses to make five new AppleIDs. Now, everybody make an iCloud account for themselves, and keep the existing shared AppleID and password just for use in the iTunes and App Stores. You can also each use your own unique AppleIDs to make iMessage accounts and keep those separate as well.

Predictive typing program for the Mac?
Has anyone heard of a predictive typing program for the Mac?
I am looking for a computer program for typing that "guesses" what word you want based on the first few letters. I have trouble typing because of physical disabilities. Voice recognition is a no go (I also have trouble with my voice).
I know cell phones have this for texting, but I've never seen it for a regular computer. An application I could type in right on my Mac, then cut and paste to other applications like Word, email, etc. Apparently there is a program called "Penfriend" for the PC that does exactly this, but I'm having trouble finding anything Mac-compatible.
Has anyone heard of a company that provides this kind of software? Any ideas on which discussion board might know?

Were you using the mouse to select words? You can set
hotkeys so you can do it with the keyboard if that
would be easier - you can use a sequence like
option-1,option-2, etc., or whatever else you can
type easily.
I tried both selecting words with the mouse, and with the coded numbers on the keyboard... I think this may be a problem for me with any predictive typing program, the whole needing-to-pick-up-your-hand thing. KeyStrokes seems about as good as you're going to get (honestly, all those languages, like magic). Maybe with a different keyboard, if I can place the numbers closer to the letters. I'll keep trying.

After running for a while (hours ? days?) I lose the ability to "mouseover" data on a website and get info. Specifically on Yahoo's

Restarting Firefox, in safe mode or normal mode, does not restore the function. Rebooting the MAC (unheard of !!) restores. What gives ?See if this works.

I use Yahoo webmail, and after setting up the mailbox on my MBP, none of my Yahoo e-mail folders transferred over. Is there any way to add the folders that appear in Yahoo webmail so appear on my mailbox set up on the Mac? Thanks!

You can't get yahoo mail using a POP client unless you are subscribed to YahooPlus. Are you subscribed? http://overview.mail.yahoo.com/enhancements/mailplus
