Getting a crash on my MacPro many times a day. Totally restarts with 'kernel panic' type screen. Is anyone else getting this. Any ideas for solving?

Hi there Aikido-Man,
The article linked below provides a lot of great information and troubleshooting tips that will resolve most kernel panic issues like the launchd panic that you’re seeing on your MacPro.
OS X: About kernel panics
Troubleshooting a recurring kernel panic
Diagnosing a recurring kernel panic can be difficult. If you would like to avoid this process, or do not know how to perform any of the following steps, consider bringing the Mac to a Genius at an Apple Store or an Apple Authorized Service Provider for assistance. Be sure to ask that, if the drive needs reformatting or replacing, they contact you about escalating your case to a special data recovery service. If you plan to visit an Apple Retail store, make a reservation at the Genius Bar using http://www.apple.com/retail/geniusbar/ (available in some countries only).
Tip: To help diagnose recurring kernel panics, record the date and time it occurs, and any information that appears with the kernel panic message.
Was the computer starting up, shutting down, or performing a particular task when the recurring kernel panic happened?
Is the kernel panic intermittent, or does it happen every time you do a certain thing?
Does it occur only when a certain external device is connected, or a device is connected to a certain port?
Isolate hardware or software as the cause of the kernel panic
Start the Mac from Recovery or its install media. Note: If a kernel panic still occurs, go to the "Hardware troubleshooting" section of this article.
Open Disk Utility and use "Repair Disk" on Mac's internal hard drive (named Macintosh HD by default).
Important: If Disk Utility is unable to repair the internal drive, you should bring the Mac to a Genius at an Apple Store, or an Apple Authorized Service Provider for service and support.
Connect an external drive with at least 10 GB of free space. Note: Make sure the external drive does not cause kernel panics and is the only device on its USB, FireWire, or Thunderbolt port. Connecting the external drive and its cables to another Mac can help make sure the drive does not cause kernel panics.
Install OS X on the external drive.
Start up from the external drive.
Install all software updates until Software Update reports your software is up to date.
Use the Apple applications on the external drive to surf the web, view QuickTime movies, email, print, scan, and/or other activities. Continue using the Mac for the amount of time it would usually take for the kernel panic to occur.
If a panic occurs, go to the "Hardware troubleshooting" section of this article to further diagnose the issue.
If a panic does not occur, go to the "Software troubleshooting" section of this article to further diagnose the issue.
I hope this helps,
-Jason

  • Premiere pro cc 2014 crashing my system

    I have a new Mac book pro (2014) 16 gbs ram.. everything is upgraded to max. downloaded the new premiere pro CC 2014. and it's crashing my system every time.
    it takes about 4 mins. with the spinning ball. Then all the processes and plugins load in.  Then it says "premiere pro couldn't find any capable video play modules. Please update your video display drivers
    and start again" WHICH IS FREAKING IMPOSSIBLE SINCE I AM ON A MAC BOOK PRO. So sick and tired of companies not working out glitches in this crap. Could someone please help. I am so
    angry and frustrated here.
    Sean

    Somewhat figured it out and extremely frustrated.
    I created another new user with administrative privileges. When i did this i got AE CC 2014 and Premiere Pro CC 2014 working. However, they will not work in my regular main account which has
    administrative priviledges.  On the phone with ADOBE they told me that it was a permissions issue and that it was Apple's Problem. Which I CALL B.S.!!!
    I tried to repair permissions in disk utility knowing full well that it wouldn't fix the issue. How on earth would apple know what the permissions errors in folders or files are for Adobe products!!
    I was very angry and upset with the Adobe technical support for this issue.
    On the new mac pro i am using i was able to create the new administrator account and erase the old administrator account since i have 0 documents or old data that i have on it other than programs.
    However, on my mac pro. I have well over 15 years of data on it including 100 GB of music, etc... that i simply can't just erase away.  Not too interested in working on 2 different accounts either.
    Not sure what to do now and i am extremely frustrated.

  • Windows XP crashes and system restarts when I try to open Itunes 6

    I tried to ask the people at Apple support what was going on. But they didn't seem to know. My system restarts when I try to open Itunes. It does it with the factory software I recieved with my 5g Ipod Video. It also does it with any updated version I install. If I reinstall Itunes the program works fine for about a day. Then it crashes my system again. Please help. I don't want to reinstall Itunes everyday in order to use it.

    Now I have the blue screen and this is the error message.
    * stop: 0x00000050 (0XBB9EA29E,0X00000000,0X8057DA81,0X00000002)
    hmmmm. okay ... do you have an early version of Roxio CD Creator 5 installed on that PC?
    i've seen this show up a few times. one of the early versions of Easy CD Creator 5 actually isn't compatible with XP:
    Easy CD Creator 5.0 Does Not Function In Windows XP
    ... but sometimes the first time people know about this is when the PC starts throwing a 0x50 at them them they try to launch itunes or (of all things) plug in an ipod ...
    if that doesn't seem to be a factor, another thing to try is vigorous spyware and virus scans (with fresh definitions). both haxdoor and sdbot can make PCs suddenly start throwing 0x50s after new software installs.
    but if those turn up blank, let's try getting a minidump on the crash to the Discussions Hosts so they can throw it over the fence to the Apple Engineers for a look. (thanks to toonz for teaching me this one.)
    To set up your machine to capture a minidump, right click on "My Computer", select "Properties", select the "Advanced" tab, select the "Startup and Recovery" Settings button, select "small memory dump" from the popup. When it crashes, look for the MiniDump file. It's usually in the folder "C:\WINDOWS\Minidump" and is called something like Mini<number>-<number>.dmp.
    And then send it to a Discussions Host. It doesn't hurt to put the URL to this discussion thread, so that whoever gets it has some context. Also give as much information about the context of the crash (in the email) as you can.
    love, b

    I need help, yesterday I installed and reinstalled the Yosemite system and take long to turn on my laptop, the bar takes to fill, and I'm worried.
    Can you help? thank

    revert back to Maverick that is what I had to finally do. This was the worst upgrade I have ever seen. Hopefully you have Time Machine backup and can revert back. It was pretty painless except for a few issues. I will wait until Apple gets their stuff together on this upgrade or may never will.

  • Touchsmart IQ506 Windows 8 upgrade crashed my system-please help

    I have the touchsmart IQ506 and recently upgraded to windows 8. It has crashed my system and I've spent hours on the phone with microsoft. How can I fix my computer? I've reinstalled windows 8 seven times...

    The following weblink will suggest whether HP has tested your system for Windows 8:
    http://www8.hp.com/us/en/ad/windows-8/instructions.html
    If your system is not tested, HP will not release the drivers directly for your model through HP.com website.
    The following weblink will suggest if your system is compatible with Windows 8:
    http://windows.microsoft.com/en-US/windows-8/upgrade-to-windows-8
    If your system is compatible with Windows 8, most of the drivers would be available through Windows 8 & windows update. If you need any specific drivers, please follow these steps:
    1. In the Run box type devmgmt.msc.
    2. Unknown devices would be listed as such and marked out with a yellow question mark.
    3. Select the unknown device or other device for which you need drivers and right click to access Properties.
    4. In the Properties window click on Details tab and select Device Instance Id  or Hardware ID from the drop down.
    5. An alphanumeric string like this PCI\VEN_1217&DEV_7130&SUBSYS_012F1025&REV_01\4&6B16D5B&0&33F0 is the identification marker for the device.
    6. Please provide this number so that we can suggest the appropriate driver.
    I am an HP employee.

  • Facebook 1.6 and 5 firefox crashed my system the other day! I like the 1.6 so I had to reload 4.03 now it is working again! I locked uo my facebook account for 8 hours

    Facebook 1.6 and 5 Firefox crashed my system the other day! I like the 1.6 so I had to reload 4.03 now it is working again! I locked up my Facebook account for 8 hours! The program had been glitching for the past month!

    I too had a HORRIBLE time with ITunes 7.0. The sound quality was absolutely terrible!! How did you recover your "Purchased Music" folder? I seem to have lost mine when I reverted back to Version 6.0.5. I also lost about 50 songs that I can't seem to find.
    As a side note, when I called the Apple technical support line and spent over 45 minutes on hold before I finally got assistance, the guy I spoke to said his department had NO IDEA about the problems with Version 7.0 - I was his first call. Someone should be fired for not testing Version 7.0 thoroughly.
    To anyone with problems, I suggest you call or email Apple so they are aware that this problem with Version 7.0 is widespread. Hopefully, they will actually listen to us customers, research this, and at least post some troubleshooting tips on the Apple website to help us out.

  • Sql developer crashing my system

    Hi All,
    I have used Oracle SQL developer for more than a year now.
    After installing Apache Tomcat 7.0.34, now when I open my Oracle SQL developer its crashing my system.
    I downloaded latest SQL developer version(32 and 64bit), tried with jdk version 1.5, 1.6 and 1.7.
    I have windows 7(64 bit), Oracle client(32 bit).
    Could anybody suggest me how to fix this problem?
    Thanks in advance
    Regards,
    Arul

    @Jim:
    Thanks for your suggestion. After several hours of experimenting, I've managed to fix my problem by copying the ojdbc6.jar from my ODAC installation and replacing the one in [sqldeveloper root]\jdbc\lib
    To whomever has a similar issue: See my original post for what software I was using and their version numbers.

  • Previously well behaved printer now crashes the system.

    I have a  CC4400.  Until today it has been working fine.  Today when I switched the printer on it crashed my system.  I get a blue screen with a lot of technical data which tells me to restart my computer if this is the first time it has happened.  Now I am at the 10th or 11th time it has happened.  I uninstalled all software and reinstalled - fine until I turn the printer on, then it crashes again.  When I plug the printer into my spare computer directly there is no problem but it is not recognised through the network.  Any ideas?  I'm about ready to throw the printer out the window!!

    Hi,
    Unlike a PC, Mac SO X uses Apple's Bonjour to communicate with the device.
    In order the device will operate propertly on Mac your router have to support DNS Multicast which is the network protocol used by Bonjour, it can only be named as mDNS, Bonjour or IGMP Snooping.
    Some routers may not support Multicast or may have the protocol disabled by the router defautl configuration.
    I would suggest contadcting the router service provider and ensuring the router support those protocols and have the latest firmware installed.
    Hope that helps,
    Shlomi

  • Mkfs.ntfs crashes the system

    Hi all,
    Here I am again with a weird kernel & swap bugs! But I'm pretty sure the kernel itself is okay, so newbie corner it is.
    Here the problem: Doing this (/dev/sdb is a 16 GB USB key I want to format)
    % sudo mkfs.ntfs /dev/sdb1
    Cluster size has been automatically set to 4096 bytes.
    Initializing device with zeroes: 2%^C^C^C^C^C^C^C^C^C^C^C^C^C^C^C^C
    Crashes my system in 30 seconds. As soon as I type the command, the computer gets extremely laggy, cursor barely reacts to mouse movement, can't ^C the command, few seconds later X is completely locked up and I switch to another terminal. Shortly after logging in, I lost acces to the terminal as well (too laggy), so I just unplugged the USB key, very bad idea from me:

    I disabled swap and now I'm able to mkfs,ntfs, but it takes the whole available RAM (-/+ buffers is 1963MB). I'm typing this and this is the only tab I can open, if I dare try to open anything else system goes unstable (random app freezes like xfce4-panel, comes back if I close something else).
    TL;DR: Question: Why does mkfs.ntfs crashes the system? How can I prevent it from doing that?

    I don't know if this helps, here's more dmesg:

    It does seem to use usb-storage as expected. I will try to find my other drive I lost somewhere on my desk and see if it does the same, I don't remember having my other drive going crazy like that.
    It also seems like dd works fine on it (probably flushes the buffer on every write), I'll keep testing on my side...

  • Lightroom 4.2 completely crashes my system

    Since Version 4 Lightroom completely crashes my system if i try to develop or export images.
    I thought that 4.2 will turn that issue of.
    But, same **** again. Lightroom 4 is completely unusable for me.
    Win 7 32 bit.
    Anyone else got that problem?

    An Application cannot crash an OS, unless there is a bug in an OS component.  Application can crash at any time, the OS traps that and shuts it down, AS ITS DESIGNED TO DO. If the OS crashes there is something else wrong.
    So, Run windows update until there are no more updates suggested.  If you haven't installed service pack 1, do so immediately.  Update the video driver, after that.
    If  you are overclocking the CPU, RAM or GPU, back off on the overclock.

  • Lion crashing whole system. Mouse scroll lame.

    LION has crashed my system 3 times in two days since loading. It's slow to boot up too.
    And, what's up with the mouse options. You have to drag your finger down to go up and up to go down. This has been the most frustrating! System prefs don't give you options. UGH! Any help?

    LION has crashed my system 3 times in two days since loading.
    That's not normal, but difficult to diagnose remotely.  Perhaps you have incompatible third-party software (try rebooting in Safe Mode).  Perhaps you have a damaged hard drive (hold down command-R at startup and repair the drive with Disk Utility).  Perhaps there's something corrupt in your user folder (try testing with a new user).  Perhaps you don't have enough free hard drive space, perhaps you don't have enough RAM, etc.
    And, what's up with the mouse options. You have to drag your finger down to go up and up to go down.
    That's natural scrolling, and can be turned off as tonefox has said (though in System Preferences -> Trackpad on a MacBook).  You'd be very surprised at how quickly it starts feeling right...  you just have to get your brain re-trained.  Imagine that you were putting your finger on the screen instead of the trackpad and moving the document around as if it were a piece of paper.  Then it makes a lot more sense that moving your fingers up moves the piece of paper up.
    In any case, though, if you don't want to give it a try or don't agree that it feels natural after trying it for a while, you're free to turn it off.
    System prefs don't give you options.
    Since System Preferences is nothing but a collection of options, I'm not sure I understand your complaint here.  Are you unable to open System Preferences, or is there some specific option you are not finding?

  • CrystalReport crashes with System.IO.FileNotFoundException

    Hi everybody
    <br/>
    <br/>
    We developped a WPF-Application with VisualStudio 2010, .NET-Framework 4 and C#, target to x86 (32bit). For Reporting we use CrystalReport (in VisualStudio we use Crystal Report, version for Visual Studio 2010; Version 13.0.1.220).
    <br/>
    <br/>
    We've already deployed this application successfully to different plattforms, such as Windows XP, Windows Vista, Windows 7 (32bit & 64bit), also we successfully install versions of our application on WMWare Windows 7-Installations. On the clients we install "Crystal Report 2008 Runtime SP3" (12.3.0.601) and then we make the appropriate entries in the config-File (see below).
    <br/>
    <br/>
    Now, we have a WMWare installation with Windows 7 Enterprise-Edition (64bit) on witch we've installed our application and the CR Runtime, as we did it usually. The application runs fine but when we are trying to open a report, the application crashes with "System.IO.FileNotFoundException" (more details below). We've already tryed to install different versions of th CR Runtime, such as SP 4 and also Crystal Reports runtime engine for .NET Framework 4 (32-bit) / Version 13.0.0.99 (and of course made the appropriate changes to the config-file) without any success.
    <br/>
    <br/>
    So, we run out of ideas. Does anyone have some hints for us, what we can do?
    <br/>
    <br/>
    Any help will be appreciate.

    Hi Ludek
    <br/>
    <br/>
    1) Thanks for your answer!!!
    <br/>
    <br/>
    2) We've started deploying our application last year and then there were no CR for VS 2010 runtime available. So we must have done this workaround. And this works perfect till now and also on 64bit and 32bit clients!!!
    <br/>
    <br/>
    3) I've deleted the config-section now!
    <br/>
    <br/>
    4) I've now installed the CR for VS 2010 runtime but get still the same error. See below.
    <br/>
    <br/>
    Thanks again and I hope for other clues.
    <br/>
    <br/>
    Roland
