are you getting any sort of blue screen? if so, what numerical and text codes are you getting with it? (ie 0x[zeros/letters/numbers] CAPSANDUNDERSCORES)
if the blue screen mentions a specific file, let us know what that is called too. (exact spelling, please.)
here's a reference on the sorts of things i'm asking about:
Troubleshooting Windows Stop Messages
if you're not seeing a blue screen (or just a flash of one), we can use this technique to make hidden blue screens appear for us:
1) Open your system control panel (Start->Control Panels->System).
2) Select the "Advanced" tab.
3) Click the "Startup and Recover" section's "Settings" button
4) Verify that under "System Failure" the "Automatically restart" checkbox is not checked.

    Hi there sshep13,
    Welcome to Apple Support Communities.
It sounds like iTunes is quitting unexpectedly upon launch on your MacBook. Try launching iTunes in Safe Mode and then removing third-party plug-ins, if the issue is resolved.

  • Widnows 8.1 keeps crashing and re-starting.

Hi there, Windows 8.1 keeps crashing and re-starting on my Asus laptop. The problem is getting worse and worse to the extent that it is happening every 15 minutes or so. I have run all the windows troublshooting applications via my control panel and carried
out various virus checks and system cleaners.
The dump files are zipped and accessible via the following link https://drive.google.com/file/d/0B177dcqEIgIaRXNJcGk1YXVDTkk/edit?usp=sharing

  • Lagging, Crashes and weird start up

Hello! I have an iMac and for a few months I've been having problems. It started with my wacom tablet not responding or lagging then progressed to all my programs lagging or flat out quitting. Now when I say lag I mean a lengthy lag- to the point that working in Photoshop is impossible. I also have a problem during start up- I fire it up with the power button, it starts up and goes to the silver apple with the spinny thing under it and...thats it- nothing else happens. I power it down, shut it off and wait a beat and power it up again and it starts up completely, with no problems except the long annoying lag when I try to open anything. I tried an archive & reinstall which took 24 hours to do- maybe thats the right amount of time but it didnt seem right to me. Anyhoo, I fired it up again, hoping for the best and still I have an incredible lag. I went to JustAnswer.com and got a mac tech to help me with some diagnostics. This is what we did- a start up holding shift, then a reboot holding the "command & s" keys then I entered a fsk command which ran a diagnostic and came up with NOTHING! I had already run disk utility, disk warrior and Norton and all of those brought up no problems. I don't have any of my art on the computer anymore so theres no massive files hogging memory. I've chucked all the programs I dont use ( sorry garage band & comic life).Help! Please help...I am a not so starving artist and Ive always been able to trouble shoot & maintain a healthy mac myself w/o paying a tech but this has me stumped and pulling my hair out. Hubby has the exact same set up and his is healthy as can be. Taint fair I tell you! Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Hi Stawicki Studios, and a warm welcome to the forums!
    Sounds like a Hardware problem.
Boot off your Install Disk while holding down the *d key*, (not c key), then run the extended Apple Hardware Test. Some disks require you to use the Option key at bootup to select AHT. Some models have a separate AHT CD.
One way to test is to Safe Boot from the HD, (holding Shift key down at bootup), run Disk Utility in Applications>Utilities, then highlight your drive, click on Repair Permissions, Test for action in Safe Mode...
    Reboot, test again.
If it only does it in Regular Boot, then it is some 3rd party add-on, Check System Preferences>Accounts>Login Items window to see if it or something relevant is listed.
Check the System Preferences>Other Row, for 3rd party Pref Panes.
Also look in these if they exist, some are invisible...

  • Mail crashed and wont start up

    Hello
I hope some one can help. At work I use Mail for my emails, last night it crashed and when I tried to restart it the application will open but crashes immediatly again meaning I cannot access any emails or pick up incoming ones. What do I need to do to get it working again? I have restarted the machine a couple of times but to no avail. Please help. Thank you

Hi Mitchell&George, and a warm welcome to the forums!
Not certain, but this can fix myriad Mail problems...
Safe Boot from the HD, (holding Shift key down at bootup), it will try to repair your Disk Directory while the spinning radian is happening, so let it go, run Disk Utility in Applications>Utilities, then highlight your drive, click on Repair Permissions, then move these folder & file to the Desktop.
Move this Folder to the Desktop...
    /Users/YourUserName/Library/Caches/Mail/
Move this file to the Desktop...
    /Users/YourUserName/Library/Mail/Envelope Index
    Reboot.
If that doesn't do it and you can afford to redo all your Rules, try these & reboot...
    /Users/YourUserName/Library/Mail/MessageRules.plist
    /Users/YourUserName/Library/Mail/MessageRules.plist.backup

  • G5 crash and problems starting - help, please!

    Malfunction ...
    G5 2.7 DP early 2005. Two internal drives (400Gb each). 8Gb RAM.
OS 10.4.11 on internal discs. One external with 10.5.6.
    No problems until today.
Only new item recently was a new back-up battery.
The amusements started with the "close down your computer" notice while working in Firefox.
Shut down, restarted. Sent report to Apple.
Back to Firefox. Fine for a few minutes, then everything froze.
Shut down using power button on front of computer.
Restarted. Everything stopped at grey screen with Apple logo and no clock.
Started with option key down and chose different start-up disc.
Back to grey screen. Light on usb mouse goes out.
Started again and held down mouse key to open DVD tray; loaded System disc.
Ran Hardware Test (quick); no problems reported.
    So tried again.
    Wouldn't start from Diskwarrior CD.
Won't start from a CD when "C" is held down.
And it won't start from the original install disc that came with the G5.
We get as far as the grey screen.
But it does run the Hardware Test; so I ran the "Extended Test".
Result: everything passed test (took 3 hrs).
    Restarted. Screen stays black.
Restart with option key, choose Install disc; grey screen with Apple logo.
Added bits to this report (which is being written on our old 7300) then used option key to select start disc (usual one) and started the G5 again.
And it started without any argument on main drive.
Disk Utility - repair perms; told it to verify disc; excessive fan noise; froze. Back to square one.
Tried using the external (Leopard) to restart; got the "your computer needs to shut down" message.
Since when whatever I do I can't get beyond the grey screen with Apple logo or it freezes on the blue "select start-up disc" screen..
I left it on the grey screen (no clock showing) while typing part of this and the fans in the G5 went crazy.
So - any ideas what to do next?

Took battery to Maplins and they tested it - no problem, rated 3.66V on their meter. Still wouldn't boot. Tried again this morning but let PRAM chime twice after main boot chime. Got to main drive desktop and managed to print out accounts (needed for taxman ...) and then backed them up onto pendrive; G5 froze. Restarted and this time lasted well over half an hour during which time ran Macaroni (checking daily, weekly maintenance schedules); all ok; then Disk Utility (all ok); then Diskwarrior (all ok). Heaved sigh of relief, started typing email to friend - ..... and no response from keyboard; mouse light was on and pointer moving, mouse is plugged into keyboard. Since when we're back to either the black screen or the grey apple with no clock. Can still get the blue screen with starting disc options, but only get to grey screen again when I try that way. Mutter curses. Have ordered a battery from a different supplier to see if it's the make of battery that's causing the problem. Would welcome any comments!

  • I have Photoshop CS5. It Keeps crashing and shutting down my computer, a MacBook Pro OS X 10.6.8.

Photoshop CS5 shuts down my computer whenever I use the marquis tools or eraser, or copy and drag something.

I just disabled open GL and went back to work on the thing that has been behind the latest crash - and it did not crash this time. So, I am guardedly hopeful, but might be back. Regardless, thank you for your advice.

  • Launching the Tuner crashes MainStage

This used to work fine. Wonder if I have a driver conflict.
MainStage starts up fine and runs fine, BUT whenever I call for the tuner (see if I'm in tune of course), MainStage freezes for 2 seconds then is totally gone. I'm given the choice of A. ignoring it B. reporting it or C. relaunching it.
    None are exceptable
Anyone have any ideas about what is wrong and how to fix it ? It used to work fine.
    Thanks

You wrote "It used to work fine". The question then has to be, before doing what? What happened to the machine since it was working fine.. upgraded to Leopard, updated MainStage, installed some 3rd party plug-ins, etc.
Also, are you talking about the Tuner button in the toolbar or the Tuner plug-in that can be instantiated on a channel strip? If you're talking about the one in the Toolbar you should be able to use the plug-in version until you figure out the issue.

  • AFP Service Crashed and Wont Start Again

I've got a 10.3.9 Server just running afp. It the AFP service just quit working yesterday while people were using it.
Now I can't get the service to start up Clicking the "Start Service" button in Server Admin does nothing.
    serveradmin gives me this:
    Classof2009:~ root# serveradmin start afp
    afp:command = "setState"
    afp:state = "STOPPED"
    afp:status = -1
The only thing in the logs might be:
The server wasn't able to start (Unable to register IPC port)
But thats only happened a few times and not every time I try to start the server.
Crash Reporter shows nothing relevent either.
Ive tried rebooting, disabling and re enabling the network interface, and clicking the "Start Service" button over and over!
Help! I don't know where else to look!

Is there anything in system.log after trying to start AFP? You can view system.log with the Console.app.

When clicking to start Firefox IE starts instead. I have unistalled Firefox and reinstalled and thought I removed IE also but it still opens. I don't know of anything I would have changed or done that would have started the problem.
