Launching I tunes

Everytime I try to launch itunes, whether ipod is connected or not, I get a windows message stating "Itunes cannot run because some of its files are missing. Please reinstall itunes."
I have reinstalled itunes several times with no effect, does anyone know the solution.

A quick thing to try:
Disconnect from the internet and disable all security software including any antimalware.
Sometimes security software can block files from installing.
Then try a repair install. Go to programs>>uninstall, find iTunes and select repair.
If that doesn't work try repairing other apple related programs from the list in the following link:
http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1923
Apple Application Support is a common culprit.
If none of that works, we will need to investigate more deeply.

are you getting any sort of blue screen? if so, what numerical and text codes are you getting with it? (ie 0x[zeros/letters/numbers] CAPSANDUNDERSCORES)
if the blue screen mentions a specific file, let us know what that is called too. (exact spelling, please.)
here's a reference on the sorts of things i'm asking about:
    Troubleshooting Windows Stop Messages
if you're not seeing a blue screen (or just a flash of one), we can use this technique to make hidden blue screens appear for us:
    1) Open your system control panel (Start->Control Panels->System).
    2) Select the "Advanced" tab.
    3) Click the "Startup and Recover" section's "Settings" button
    4) Verify that under "System Failure" the "Automatically restart" checkbox is not checked.

  • Launching the Tuner crashes MainStage

This used to work fine. Wonder if I have a driver conflict.
MainStage starts up fine and runs fine, BUT whenever I call for the tuner (see if I'm in tune of course), MainStage freezes for 2 seconds then is totally gone. I'm given the choice of A. ignoring it B. reporting it or C. relaunching it.
    None are exceptable
Anyone have any ideas about what is wrong and how to fix it ? It used to work fine.
    Thanks

You wrote "It used to work fine". The question then has to be, before doing what? What happened to the machine since it was working fine.. upgraded to Leopard, updated MainStage, installed some 3rd party plug-ins, etc.
Also, are you talking about the Tuner button in the toolbar or the Tuner plug-in that can be instantiated on a channel strip? If you're talking about the one in the Toolbar you should be able to use the plug-in version until you figure out the issue.

  • I-tunes won't launch-softwareupdate.exe error

Back on 3/13, I was able to launch I-tunes, purchase and download songs and sync to my I-pod. I went away for a few days and hadn't tried to launch I-tunes until tonight. When I tried to launch I-tunes tonight, I got an immediate "software application has encountered a problem and needs to close," followed ultimately by a runtime error that forces the program to abort. The error signature says the application name is softwareupdate.exe app version 1.0.2.1. I saw some messages about launching Quicktime to rule out that it's related to the problem. I did, and it launched without error or incident. Is this an Apple Problem, a Microsoft Problem or both?

you should be fine without it, but you would need to go online to the iTunes download page next time you wanted/needed to upgrade. there's a little more info on what it is and does in this document:

  • PC: i-tunes won't launch, update and restore greyed out - updater freezes

Hi - Please excuse the system info below - that refers to my laptop but our sons shuffle ismarried to our PC.
I found my son's shuffle sitting on the hall dresser today and he informed me that it has not been working for some time. He's 8 years old but he's only had the shuffle since Christmas - I'm inclined to think he really hasn't been able to use it much.
First signs of a problem were flashing green and orange lights - no songs I guess. Battery shows steady green.
Downloaded and installed latest i-tunes update and i-pod updater. When the i-pod is connected to our PC (running XP) the front status light and the back battery lights both blink orange. Unfortunately, we do not have any 2.0 usb connections on the Dell but we've been able to successfully connect our other son's shuffle to the back port.
When the shuffle is connected i-tunes will not launch. If I launch i-tunes and then connect the shuffle, i-tunes does not recognize the i-pod.
With the updater lauched and then connecting the i-pod the updater freezes at 'initializing' and both update and restore buttons are greyed out.
I have reset the i-pod many times and browsed the support discussions and articles - it seems I may need to remove the updater but I have not found instructions for the process appropriate to a PC.
Any help would be greatly appreciated - even if its just to say that we should bring it in for service. UGH - but where is the darned receipt?

Hey mmlise - glad to hear I'm not alone on this...
By the way - I uninstalled and reinstalled both i-tunes and i-pod updater as per Apple instructions for PC. At least this time the updater informed me as to what it updates but it is not even initializing now - it just keeps telling me to "plug in an i-pod to update it".
i-tunes still will not launch until I remove the shuffle from the usb.
I know that the usb is working (tried several other ports anyway) since windows pops up with a balloon to say that the device could perform faster on a 2.0 usb...
I've been out of the loop for awhile now on the boards - is this some sort of update bug?
    Please help...

  • I tunes still will not run on XP

I have tried all the tricks listed and still I-tunes will not run on relatively new windows XP, Dell machine (also newly purchased I-pod), - I have disabled virus protection, I have loaded most recent versions of i-tunes, I have cleared temp files and reloaded. I tried loading Q-time player as a stand alone. I deleted old folders of I-tunes and Q-time and reloaded. I-tunes down-loads without any error message, I-pod connects to USB and charges - and shows up as an "E" drive. But clicking on i-tunes icon, or loading audio disk or connecting I-pod all fail to visably launch i-tunes (nothing is seen in task manager after attempting to launch I-tunes - but on shut down of the computer I get the message that I-tunes is not responding and must be shut down manually). Already 10 hours spent on this

  • I tunes won't work since 7.4.3.1

    HI,
I am in trouble with Itunes, on windows XP Pro.
With the 7.4.3.1 version I have a message that tells me : some system components are missing. If I click OK Itunes works. I have this message each time I launch I tunes.
I tried to register dll as I saw in some forum, doesn't fix up my problem.
Then I tried every single version from 7.4.3.1 to 7.6, none of them works on my PC.
I can see that the process Itunes.exe is running, but I can't see nothing, no error message, no itunes, nothing.
I tried a lot of things like reinstalling, clearing the registry, changing QuickTime Version, every solution i could find on the web nothing is working.
I have no problem with my PC, since 2years Itunes is the only sowtware that refuses to work. I know that I am not alone with this trouble, because I saw a lot of messages that stipule itunes won't open. I can't understand why Apple can't fix it.
I hope I can find some help on this forum.

iTunes shoul start in safe mode with network connections. Another user with the same problem found that iTunes would not start insafe mode.
As you say this suggests the problem is not caused by confilcts with other software, unless there is 3rd party software that loads in safe mode. I haven't checked that.
I think the problem must be with some Windows component, or a problem with iTunes itself or how it was installed. It is possible to create an install log, but it would need help from Apple to interpret it.
Just a thought, if you run services.msc, either from "run" or Administartive tools, are any Windows services shown as stopped?
I did suggested to someone else running Filemon during iTunes startup to see if that will give a clue where iTunes is hanging, buy they have not done it yet.
    http://www.microsoft.com/technet/sysinternals/FileAndDisk/Filemon.mspx
You can set a filter so it only shows files opened by iTunes.exe
iTunes opens many files during startup.
May be if we compared your output from filemon with mine?
But perhaps you are geting fed up and want to go back to 7.4.
