Launching MSI shortcut via .lnk

I am having some trouble finding information on launching an ".lnk" MSI
shortcut from the Start Menu\Programs\app\app shortcut.lnk
I thought I was able to do this in the past, but I can't seem to get it to
work now. The reason for calling the lnk file as opposed to calling the
executable directly, is to leverage self-healing of the MSI.
Can someone help me with this, maybe there is something that I am
missing...

  • Deploy a shortcut via SCCM 2012 R2

    Hello, I have a package that installs a program in C: \ Application but it does not create an application shortcut on desktop.
    Is there any of meteodo to deploy the shortcut via SCCM?

    You could enable verbose logging for the MSI installation.
    Then install the MSI using the local system account with PSEXEC -i -s cmd.exe
    http://richardbalsley.com/a-simple-tip-to-test-software-installation-using-the-local-system-account
    Have a look at the log file and compare it to a log file installed with your own credentials.
    msiexec /i "C:\MyPackage\Example.msi" /L*V "C:\log\example.log"

  • Create shortcut via batch loader or other API

    Does anyone know whether it is possible (and if so, how) to create shortcuts via batch loader?
    If this is not possible, is there an API which could do this?
    I will need to create a lot of shortcuts, so am looking for a way to do this in bulk, i.e. programmatically.
    Thanks,
    -paul

    (Please excuse if there is any mistakes. this is my first post)
    If you are using the FDM's Task manager for the Batch loading, Just have a lookinto that Script whcih you have scheduled for the Batch process. you will find below row in the script.
    Set BATCHENG.PcolFiles = BATCHENG.fFileCollectionCreate(CStr(strDelimiter))
    BATCHENG.mFileCollectionProcess BATCHENG.PcolFiles, CLng(lngProcessLevel), ,CBool(blnAutoMapCorrect)
    Assume you are loading Sigle file from "OpenBatch" folderwhen ever scheduler executes the script. If so replace the above as below.
    Set BATCHENG.PcolFiles = BATCHENG.fFileCollectionCreate(CStr(strDelimiter), File1)
    BATCHENG.mFileCollectionProcess BATCHENG.PcolFiles, CLng(lngProcessLevel), ,CBool(blnAutoMapCorrect)
    Where File1 = Path for the file name to be loaded. So that file will not be moved from the "OpenBatch" folder. then you can append below VB script to the existing script to rename the file name.
    Set FSO1 = CreateObject("Scripting.FileSystemObject")
    Set File1= FSO1.GetFile("<File Path>")
    File1.move ("New path")
    Where "File Path" = FDM Directory\FDM Application\Inbox\Batches\Openbatch\1_LocationA_WLACTUALS_Nov-2009_RR.txt
    "New Path" = FDM Directory\FDM Application\Inbox\Batches\Openbatch\1_LocationB_WLACTUALS_Nov-2009_RR.txt
    and use the Batch processing script Again.
    Set BATCHENG.PcolFiles = BATCHENG.fFileCollectionCreate(CStr(strDelimiter), File2)
    BATCHENG.mFileCollectionProcess BATCHENG.PcolFiles, CLng(lngProcessLevel), ,CBool(blnAutoMapCorrect)
    Here File2 is the path for new file (LocationB.)
    So that, You can get the Single file from the Source system and you can load to two locations at a time with in the Single execution of the script. and Also make sure to write a script to copy the new file from "OpenBatch" folder to backup location like Inbox or as required as this script will not move the file from the "OpenBatch" directory. (Move script as same as mentioned above)
    Reply me if you have any doubts....

  • Pushing out MSI's via GPO for Windows 8.1

    I'm having an issue trying to push Flash Player 13 MSI via GPO to Windows 8.1 machine. It pushes out fine to windows XP pro and windows 7 pro. I know the GPO works, just not for 8.1. I've don't gpupdate /force and still nothing.
    Has anyone else had any issues with this?  Is there something I'm missing for 8.1 MSI deployment via GPO?

  • Launching JVM 1_4 via c++

    Hai Friends,
    Can any one help me in launching JVM 1_4 via c++ code? A sample code wolud be ver ymuch helpful.
    Thanks In Advance,
    Have mo'e fun,

    When you launch java you need to specify a main() to start.
    If there is not a main which does what you need you can create one fairly easily.
    public class MyStarup {
       public static void main(String[] args) {
          theMethodToCall(args);
    }

  • MSI NX6600 AGP Card & MSI 7008, VIA PT880 Motherboard Compatible?

    Hello all!
    Need a little help today.
    I have a MSI NX6600 AGP Card & MSI 7008, VIA PT880 Motherboard that are giving me some headaches.If I try any NVIDIA driver above version 71.25 the graphics (2d and 3d) are very badly distorted. The desktop screen is unreadable and any software I try to run looks warped and garbled. I am using an Antec case with a 350w Antec PSU. Both the motherboard and video card are from MSI. This is the second video card I try, I RMA'd the first one. If I use an older AGP card (Ti4200) all graphics display perfectly. Is there something I can do to fix the problem? Is there a compatibility problem between the VIA chip and the NVIDIA 6600 chip?
    I'd appreciate a push in the right direction!
    Thanks!

    Hi!
    There seems to be some problems with certain setups, see: http://forums.nvidia.com/index.php?showtopic=3612
    I had these 2d-issues with 6600GT and RMA'd the card, hope I'll get newer revision... none of the fixes helped.

  • Referencing the script folder when launching via LNK

    I have been using ".\ blah blah" to reference files stored in the same folder as the script, but I ran into a situation where this actually referenced the user's home folder, not the script folder. I then found this code, which has worked well
    when launching the script directly, but when the script is launched via a shortcut it fails.
    Is there a modification that can be done to this code, or another option, that will consistently identify the UNC path of the running script?
    Thanks,
    Gordon
    function Get-ScriptDirectory {
    $Invocation = (Get-Variable MyInvocation -Scope 1).Value
    if($Invocation.PSScriptRoot) {
    $Invocation.PSScriptRoot
    elseif($Invocation.MyCommand.Path) {
    Split-Path $Invocation.MyCommand.Path
    else {
    $Invocation.InvocationName.Substring(0,$Invocation.InvocationName.LastIndexOf("\"))

    Interesting.  So it's not even using MyCommand.Path; it's dropping down into that last case (which I assume was written to cover PowerShell 1.0, but I'm not certain.)
    Try adding this command to the function, for debugging purposes, right after the "$Invocation = ..." line:
    $Invocation |
    Format-Custom -Depth 3 -Property * -Force |
    Out-Host
    That should give you a bunch of information that you can copy and paste here, so we can figure out what's going on.
    Edit:  One other thing; is this Get-ScriptDirectory function in the ps1 script itself, or is it in a PSM1 module?

  • V1.0.1 - Update download after 2nd launch from shortcut

    I've noticed that JWS v1.0.1 now downloads updates to application jars immediately when the app is launched from a web browser, but when the app is launched from a shortcut (on Win2k), updates are not downloaded until the app is stopped and launched a second time via the shortcut.
    Why this difference in behavior? Is this behavior configurable? Ideally, I'd like to be able to use JWS with the following gaurentee:
    When I post a new jar to my web server, any client with network connectivity will be updated immediately the first time they run the application.
    Unfortunately, with the current behavior of JWS shortcuts, the client will be able to load the app using "old" jars while he still has network access. This forces me make sure any server side features used by the app can handle both the current client code set, and the "old" client code set, only to prevent the app from dieing badly when the client launches from a shortcut the first time after server jars are updated. I'd like to avoid such extra, non-productive work if possible.
    Thanks,
    Dan

    I seem to be having this problem aswell .... anyone else?

  • Adobe apps fail to launch after copying via ARD 3

    For several years we have beeen updating our Adobe apps by updating our master image and copying (via ARD v.1, then v.2, now v. 3) the applications and the associated Application Support files to the target machines. (300 Macs running Tiger) Since upgrading to version 3 of ARD. Adobe apps fail to launch after they are replaced, even with the old files.
    I found a post alluding to a known issue with Acrobat from June. It stated it was a known bug that engineering was aware of. THAT was the only mention I could find. Does anyone know anything more about this? This is critical for our publishing workflow - Adobe has two updates that affect us in critical areas that we need to implement, but are reluctant to visit 300 individual desktops (even remotely) and run individual install patches.
    The silent install works great for installation, but does not address updates.
    Anyone?

    Just FYI. I only had problems with InDesign not launching but this was a know issue with Adobe:

  • How to launch IE window via SCCM 2012 R2

    Hi,
    we need to open / launch Internet Explorer windows at a specific time everyday on the computers of a specific collection.
    How it could be achieved? Is this possible via SCCM? or it could be done via GP? What is recommended? Or with MS Orch?
    Please assist.
    Regards, Syed Fahad Ali

    You could do this with ConfigMgr ...
    You can launch IE like this %programfiles%\Internet Explorer\IEXPLORE.EXE http://www.cnn.com
    Just create a batch file with all pages you'd like to open and deploy it with ConfigMgr.
    If timing is an issue ... you'd probably be better of with a scheduled task (which you can also implement using ConfigMgr).

  • How do I undo Adobe Reader X's changing my file shortcuts to lnk?

    I tried to open a PDF file from my email and the next thing I know is that all of my shortcuts were changed to lnk extensions associated with Adobe.  How do I reverse this?  I attempted to do a system restore without any success.  G

    You don't mention your operating system, but if it's Windows 7 or Vista, this may help:

    I use [FastScripts|http://www.red-sweater.com/fastscripts> (free for up to 10 keyboard shortcuts).

  • Launching an app via system exec behaves differently to launching it outside LabVIEW

    Hi,
    My problem is as follows:
    I am trying to write some code to communicate with an Anritsu unit (MT1810A chassis with MU181020A plug-ins) via ethernet.  Anritsu supply a standalone app to control this instrument (MX180000A.exe) which gives comprehensive control over the setup & config of the instrument.
    I want to control this unit via LV however without recourse to their program.
    The only time that either MAX or LV seem to be able to successfully communicate with the unit is when the supplied Anritsu app is running.  Not only that, the app must be opened manually, ie by clicking on the exe (or selecting it from the Start --> Programs etc menu) or using cmd prompt with exe path.  Once the app has been started this way, MAX can talk to the unit and any LV code executes without error.
    If however I use the system exec vi within LV to launch the Anritsu app, the app opens as normal, is able to control the unit however MAX now has an exclamation mark on the VISA resource - status shown as:
    VISA returned this static device when finding resources, and MAX could use VISA to parse the resource name. MAX could not succesfully open a VISA session to the device.
    and it can no longer talk to the unit.  In addition any LV code now generates the following error when trying to open a VISA connection to the unit:
    Error -1073807343 occurred at VISA Open in BER Initialize.vi
    Possible reason(s):
    VISA:  (Hex 0xBFFF0011) Insufficient location information or the device or resource is not present in the system.
    So, getting to the point -
    - Why the difference in behaviour depending on how the app has been opened?
    (oh and of course, how do I fix it? )
    Regards
    Andy
    System is running XP, LV version 8.5, VISA 4.2
    Unit needs to be added to MAX using manual entry of raw socket, ie
    TCPIP0::192.168.1.21::5001:OCKET
    There are 2 network cards in the PC.  The unit is connected to card 2 which has been specified as the default in the network control panel.

    Hi,
    Here is a KnowledgeBase article that might help concerning the error you're receiving. Do you see this behavior on multiple PCs as well?

  • MSI and Via what happened ??

    Just wondering what ever happened to any new motherboards based on the K8T890 or the new K8T900 chipsets has MSI given up on VIA chipsets and went to Nforce 4 for the most part ?
      I ask because back in Dec. Of 2005 I emailed MSI about a new board based on the K8T900
    chipset , I was told it would be released in March , well its April and no board Waht happened did MSI give up on VIA ??

    No idea too....
    But it could be that those chipsets are not worth the trouble of designing a new motherbord for them, who knows?
    I mean compared to the current VIA chipsets the nVidia ones are way better....so it could be that MSI is waiting for a VIA chipset that can match it....
    But as I said, I don't know, just guessing here.
