Launchpad in Mountain Lion

II'm using OS X 10.8 Mountain Lion and I have a proplem with the Launchpad.
When I install new app, the app's icon appear in Lauchpad at first page instead of 2nd page same OS X 10.7 Lion. I like it in the 2nd page so I can manager my installed app easily. Please help me to config my Launchpad when I install new app, the icon appears in page 2 automaticly. Thanks!

Yes Thomassooo, but I have to do this every single time I install an app ; which isn't very convenient.
Also, if they want it so much to be like the iphone's launchpad, they should change this as on the iphone, the installing app adds itself right next to the furthest app away, and not the first available spot.
Anyway, it's a minor detail, but it's important to me.

I can... you cannot. I'm not sure why. It will not work on an app icon.
Are you sure you're doing this on a Folder?
Perhaps it is a function of Finder. You can try deleting Finder prefs to default.
Go to your Finder "Go" menu hold the option key and choose Library. Then go to Preferences folder and trash these files:
    com.apple.finder.plist
    com.apple.sidebarlists.plist
Then, restart, or log out and in again.
(You will have to reset a few finder prefs the way you like them.)

  • The App store says mountain lion is installed but it's not

I have a brand new macbook pro. The store says it's done but in the Launchpad the mountain lion icon is still grey and showing a blank downloading bar. Should I restart my computer?

Basically, the App Store is telling you that the purchase is complete and the download is underway.
The ML download is 4GB and can take anywhere from 1-8 hours to download depending on your internet connection speed.  A 1.5Mbps connection will take 7-8 hours, while a 10Mbps will take 1-2 hours.
Open the App store back up and go to the Purchases tab.  It should show the download progress of ML.
The progress bar on the ML icon is not a very good indicator since it's so short.

  • Time Machine doesn't appear in Launchpad since upgrading to Mountain Lion

Since upgrading to Mountain Lion (I'm using 10.8.1), Time Machine doesn't appear as one of the apps when using Launchpad. I can't figure out where it "went" but how do I get it back into Launchpad?
It's still in the Applications folder and in my Dock but I'd like to know why it isn't in Launchpad any more?
    Thanks.
    Sheri

    Open Terminal and copy:
    sqlite3 ~/Library/Application\ Support/Dock/*.db "DELETE from apps; \
DELETE from groups WHERE title<>''; DELETE from items WHERE rowid>2;" \
    && killall Dock
Go to Applications and drag the apps to Launchpad

  • HT2404 Mountain Lion will not download through the apps store.  It shows up in Launchpad, but when the screensaver goes on and I enter my password and my desktop shows up, it has disappeared from launchpad.  I have set my energy saver controls appropriate

Mountain lion will not download thru the apps store.  It has been purchased and redeemed.  I have set my energy settings appropriately so computer will not turn off during download as Verizon offers a connection that is very slow.  I have set the display to go to sleep (which I have set so I have to sign in again).  When I sign in again, Mountain Lion OSX has disappeared from the launchpad.  I have tried this several times.  I do have Norton Internet Security on my Mac Air.  I turned off the idle time scan on the Norton and tried again.  Same results.  Anyone?

Ask anyone around here, and they will tell you quite differently. AV software will slow down your computer, can be incompatible with software you use, can cause kernel panics and other problems. It is unnecessay since OS X has it's own protection built-in. AV software can no more tell the difference between safe and unsafe sites on your browser than could an elephant.

  • Launchpad keeps losing folder setup after Mountain Lion upgrade

    Hi experts !
Since upgrading to Mountain Lion I've noticed an irritating issue with Mountain Lion... Launchpad loses the folder organisation I set up every couple of days!
I can restore the folders from launchpad backup and it will be fine for a short period but, seemingly randomly, it resets to individual items. When this happens if I look in System Prefs>Launchpad all the items are shown individually and ticked.
All the apps launch ok but this is just irritating as it's a pain to scroll through the screens to find the app I want ( yes I know I could use Launchpad search but the point of folders is to make it simpler ! )
I've looked in system log for any error string with "Launchpad" but nothing.
Any ideas... anyone else suffered from this?
    Cheers

  • Launchpad problem in Mountain Lion

I have recently purchased an iMac running Mountain Lion (previously had iMac running Snow Leopard). I was rearranging the icons in Launchpad but now something appears to have gone wrong. When I open launchpad it goes to page 2 of the launchpad. When I scroll to the left to get onto page 1 of the Launchpad it immediately rebounds onto page 2 so I cannot get it to settle on page 1. How do I reset it?

This procedure will reset the state of LaunchPad to its default. Any customization that you did will be removed.
    Back up all data.
Triple-click anywhere in the line below on this page to select it:
    ~/Library/Application Support/Dock
Right-click or control-click the highlighted line and select
    Services ▹ Open
from the contextual menu.* A folder should open. Inside it are one or more files with long names ending in ".db". Move those files to the Desktop, leaving the folder open. Log out, log back in, and test. If there's no change, put the files you moved back where they were, overwriting the ones that may have been created in their place. Then log out and in again. Otherwise, delete the files you moved.
*If you don't see the contextual menu item, copy the selected text to the Clipboard (command-C). In the Finder, select
    Go ▹ Go to Folder...
from the menu bar, paste into the box that opens (command-V). You won't see what you pasted because a line break is included. Press return.

  • Why does my Launchpad background revert to default in Mountain Lion?

This is a very minor issue but it has me curious to know the reason. When I activate Launchpad I use ctl+opt+cmd+B to cycle through the background effects and choose blurred black and white instead of blurred colour. My setting never seems to stick though. It will revert back to the default setting with the blurred colour background, most likely when I restart/reboot.
I've done some searching around for this but haven't had any luck finding out the reason for why Mountain Lion won't retain this setting. Any ideas?

If you log in automatically, a long-standing bug will cause the desktop picture to revert to the default image at every startup. The only known workaround is to disable automatic login in the Users & Groups preference pane.
If the desktop picture always reverts to a plain blue background, one of your login items may be causing the problem. The "TeamViewer" application can have this effect; see this thread. If it's not that in your case, rule out all other third-party login items as possible causes.
If you have a MacBook Pro model with automatic graphics switching, disable it temporarily in the Energy Saverpreference pane, set the Desktop picture, then reboot and re-enable graphics switching.
If none of the above applies to you, proceed as follows.
    Back up all data.
In the Finder, hold down the option key and select
    Go ▹ Library
from the menu bar. From the Library folder, delete the following item, if it exists:
    Caches/com.apple.systempreferences
and move the following items to the Desktop, if they exist:
    Application Support/Dock/desktoppicture.db
    Preferences/com.apple.desktop.plist
Launch System Preferences and test. If you still have the issue, put the item on the Desktop back where it came from and post again. Otherwise, delete the item.

My Mavericks upgrade crashed my hard drive and I had to reinstall Mountain Lion.  Now I cannot get any of the apps that I purchased to download.  The icons on the launchpad just say "waiting" no matter what I try.  My app store ID is fine.  What do I do?

Are you now using a different username from the one you used prior to migrating? If so that is the reason for the problem. You might, then, give this a try:
    To fix Home folder permissions
Open the Terminal application in the Utilities folder.  At the command line prompt enter or paste the following command line:
    sudo chown -R `id -un`:`id -gn` ~
Press RETURN.  You will be prompted to enter your admin password which will not be echoed.

  • Mountain Lion stuck installing in Launchpad. What can I do?

On the Launchpad desktop I can see the icon of Mountain Lion's installer that is stuck. The progression bar has not moved since a few days and I don't know how I can try to reinstall the OS.
    Anyone an Idea?

Restart your Mac and the download should resume.

  • Mountain Lion upgrade hanging, Launchpad shows "waiting"

I'm a new Mac user. Am upgrading my OS X Lion to Mountain Lion on my new iMac. Got the redeem code, entered it, Launchpad opened and showed the download had started, using WiFi so progress was slow. Walked away. Came back 20 mins later, computer had slept, and there was no Wifi connection and no Mountain Lion download showing in LaunchPad. I rebooted my iMac and my modem and plugged my Mac in directly to modem (thinking LAN would be fasting that WiFi). Went to Purchases in Mac App Store and Mountain Lion showed "an error has occured" in red. Didn't say what error. I went to Mountain Lion App page, hit Download, and Launchpad opens again, with ML icon, but it just shows "waiting." No progress. Ummmm...help? How do I get Mountain Lion to install?

Not sure how to delete this comment. Un-marked it as a question. Went back to App Store Purchases and saw it was waiting for me to sign in and Click Resume. Downloading now. Nevermind.

  • HT1338 even though mountain lion appears in launchpad i am not able to download it as its not showing sign of progress from past 8 hrs.

I am not able to see any sign of progress from last night, and when i go back to app store it shows downloading.

    Welcome to Apple Communities
Go to App Store > Purchases, pause and resume it. If it doesn't work, delete it and download Mountain Lion again

  • Since installing mountain lion i have a problem with mail. when i delete a message close  and open mail the message has come back. please help!

Since installing Mountain Lion i have a problem with Mail. I delete a number of messages from the same person but keep the newest message in my Inbox. I actually delete them from the Trash. The next time i open Mail the deleted messages are back again. Can anybody please help as this is getting annoying. Thanks in Anticipation.

Problems such as yours are sometimes caused by files that should belong to you but are locked or have wrong permissions. This procedure will check for such files. It makes no changes and therefore will not, in itself, solve your problem.
    First, empty the Trash.
Triple-click the line below to select it, then copy the selected text to the Clipboard (command-C):
    find ~ $TMPDIR.. \( -flags +sappnd,schg,uappnd,uchg -o ! -user $UID -o ! -perm -600 -o -acl \) 2> /dev/null | wc -l
Launch the Terminal application in any of the following ways:
☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)
☞ In the Finder, select Go ▹ Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.
☞ Open LaunchPad. Click Utilities, then Terminal in the icon grid.
Paste into the Terminal window (command-V). The command may take a noticeable amount of time to run. Wait for a new line ending in a dollar sign (“$”) to appear.
The output of this command, on a line directly below what you entered, will be a number such as "41." Please post it in a reply.
