Launchy...trying to open everything in firefox?

I liked using gnome-do but it required mono and a whole bunch of other libraries that made it alone take 90Mb to have installed
I recently moved over from gnome to Lxde and so far am liking the change, and found that launchy is great, much more configurable and everything it seems, but when I type in avid and it suggests avidemux, I hit enter and then firefox pops up asking me what I want to do with the file avidemux2_gtk.bin
So instead of running the files..its opening them in firefox?
Has anyone had this problem before..? I was thinking it might have something to do with mime-types or something..

Awesome thanks that fixed everything, I found a patch on that page, recompile launchy with the patch and bam..I can actually use it now!
You think they would release a new version of launchy to fix this ASAP..kinda a big problem...w/e I'm happy!

Launchy opening EVERYTHING in firefox??

Hey --
I just installed openbox, and to avoide gnome dependencies associated with gnome-do, I installed launchy.
However, it is doing something extremely strange. When I search for an app (lets say, geany), and hit enter, it attempts to open geany with firefox.
Has anyone had this problem?
Ideas on how to fix it?
I found ONE mention of this problem on the launchy bbs, and no one responded to the guy's posts. He's also running arch, btw.

Had to educate myself on creating my own packages, but I think I got it.
First, make sure you have base-devel and fakeroot installed (sudo pacman -Sy base-devel fakeroot).
Then, create a directory somewhere, cd to it, and create a file called PKGBUILD with the following in it:

Basically, this is the PKGBUILD file from the repository, with commands to download the patch and apply it to source before building.
Now, run makepkg. After the package is built, run "sudo pacman -U <pkgname>" to install. Done!

Out of no where my laptop is trying to open everything in adobe reader and i want it to stop.

Every sinle icon is runed by adobe reader now and i want it to stop because adobe reader cant open the internet it cant open anything on my laptop. I tryed to open something in adobe reader and then every single thing changed. I thought it was just something that would go away but instead of all the icons just looking like it, now they are runned by it too. so it got worse when i turned it off. Can anyone please help.

[Solved]Skype opens files in FireFox

Hi!
How do i set skype to open the incoming files in my Thunar? It opens everything in Firefox. I use OpenBox without any DEs.

I guess that the first solution does not work because you are not starting openbox-session but just bare openbox.
The autostart.sh script is started by openbox-session command but not by openbox command.
If you don't use gdm replace:
exec openbox
with
exec openbox-session
in your .xinitrc file and then also the first solution will work.
The first solution is better because you can start skype from gmrun, launchy or by an icon launcher and it will always open your home folder with thunar.
The alias skype='DE=xfce skype' works only if you start skype from bash.

Opening Hotmail in Firefox closes Firefox and opens IE

Today when I tried to open Hotmail from Firefox 12, Firefox closed and IE opened up. I've tried several times and the same thing happens. I noticed my homepage had changed to Ask.com as well - not sure if this is coincidence or related.

Create a new profile as a test to check if your current profile is causing the problems.

[solved] Xdg-open to open everything with file manager

I like to screw around with my system constantly and xdg-utils is an annoying utility to have to constantly fiddle with. I know there is a way to get xdg-open to open everything with the default file manager, but my google fu has failed me. As of right now I use pcmanfm, and I'm fairly certain I'm sticking with it for the long haul.

Since few days, Firefox crashes when trying to open local php files - without using localhost . It shoudn't. I tried to unsinstall everything and reinstall. But it didn't work. I use a mac osX 10..6

I'm a beginner web developper. When I try to open php files, Firefox crashes and open millons of new firefox windows . I have no choice other than forcing Firefox to quit. When I use the localhost adress, it's Ok. But because I usually open the file directly from a folder in my HDD, (it's faster to dothis way) transforming it after with the localhost/~username/file ... it' s quite irritant.

Do you mean that Safari crashed there as well?
If so, that's an indication that the startup disk needs repairing.

I am trying to open Firefox. I have changed from Beta to 3.6, neither came up on my Icon. got to registration which last night was told that it was authenticated now can't get any help. Please no more lists I need person to help me. Can't get Chats

Nobody can help you without proper system and version information or other technical details. if the update is botched, then run the cleaner tool and reinstall from scratch.

I was updating Firefox from version 6 to version 7, after updating I tried to open Firefox and the message I got is this: This application has failed to start because xul.dll was not found. How can I fix this?

I was updating Firefox to the newest version 7.0.1 from version 6.0.2 I think it was, I clicked the restart Firefox button that always comes up after updating. It started updating and then Firefox never restarted like it was supposed to after it was done updating. I then tried to open Firefox and it told me "This application has failed to start because xul.dll was not found." I did have Firefox crash on maybe about 30 minutes or so earlier which bothered me because I have been using Firefox for years and never had it crash on me before but I didn't think much of it at the time it happened because I was able to go back onto Firefox and finish what I had been working on. A while later I checked for updates and updated. The first time I tried to update it didn't work though so I had to shutdown Firefox and reopen Firefox and start the update a second time. It was after the second time that when I tried to open Firefox I got that message about failing to start because xul.dll can't be found. I filed a crash report when my Firefox crashed. This would have been around 1am-2am in the morning that Firefox first crashed and then wouldn't allow me to open it after updating. I have a DELL laptop running the Windows XP operating system but the laptop is probably at least 6 or 7 years old. The laptop will no longer charge so I always have to have it plugged into an outlet. Both my laptop hard drive and my external hard drive give me messages that I am running out of disk space on my hard drive. I bought this laptop 6 or 7 years ago second hand so it could be even older. In short it's a piece of crap and it gives me all kinds of issues but I currently can't afford a new one, but I have never had any problems with Firefox and I use Firefox more than any other aspect of my laptop so it's really really bothering me. May you please help me fix it?

I tried to uninstall and it said I couldn't because the file is corrupt or something, but I think I finally got it uninstalled and/or deleted or whatever, but now I try to reinstall/download it again from the beginning and I can't. You are in VoiceOver mode, you need to go into your settings>general>accessibility and turn off VoiceOver.

Firefox crashes when trying to open

When trying to open firefox it crashes right away. It pops up an error box with the two options to either try to restore firefox or quit firefox. I have tried to open it in safe mode and get the same results. Also I have uninstalled and reinstalled firefox with the same thing happening. I do have some crash ID's

Thank you guys for the quick responses. I tried to update trusteer rapport but it said it was already up to date. I am trying to talk to them about it. Also I tried a newer version of Firefox and it opened up fine. The reason that we are trying to get Firefox 9 to work is that there is a business site we need access to and they only support Firefox 9 or IE 8 which is ridiculous in my opinion.

OK, I've been messin with this for about 4 hours now, I finally found the solution to my problem and would like to share in hopes of helping. Every time I tried to open itunes I recieved this error message:

Which basically lays out my whole problem - and I did all of the suggested steps but still...
same message... same problem... and no solution.
I came to the mssg boards and tried all these suggested steps that are on this post to no avail. Reinstalled everything over and over. Then I found this:
for itunes 6.0.x, the first thing i check for with one of those is a broken quicktime. does your quicktime currently launch, or does it give you an error message?
try a careful standalone QT 7.0.3 reinstall.

I went and downloaded the standalone quicktime, installed it. Opened the quicktime program to make sure it worked, which it did, then tried itunes again.......
