Laundry List of Problems with New Photos App...

This isn't really a question, per se, but a list of complaints that others might have input on workarounds.
1. I made a habit of downloading my photos to the computer after each activity that merited it.  As such, the images were naturally sorted into Events that neatly matched.  As far as I can tell, my images are all in one giant jumble of crap now.  Did I miss a step in the transition where it asked me if I wanted to keep my Events as Albums in the new app or is this just something I'm going to have to do manually?  (I guess I did have a question...)
2. I try to avoid deleting my photos from my SD cards until I have them backed up in at least two locations.  As such, I end up relying on the app's ability to recognize the previously imported from the new.  This afternoon, I put the SD card in and it did just that, however the import buttons were disabled and even selecting the new images didn't re-enable them.  I had something else to do, so I properly ejected the SD card and came back later.  Now when I put the SD card in, it ONLY sees the old photos and doesn't even recognize the new ones as old ones.  They are completely invisible to the app.  And it won't let me import from an SD card with the Import function, simply "graying out" the folders on the card so they can not be selected.  I had to drag-copy the files into an empty folder on my desktop and then import from that location.  This is precisely n-1 steps too many.
It really seems like this application could have used several more weeks of bug testing before being released.  I'm not prepared to say that it is definitively worse than iPhoto (which wasn't exactly phenomenal), but it really seems like a weak excuse to cram the iCloud down your throat.  That might be the corporate goal, since they keep putting tiny HDs in the MacBooks, despite the rapidly improving SSD technology and declining prices.

In Photos your Events were converted to Albums. Easiest access is if you enable the sidebar (View Menu)
I've seen a couple pf reports of oddities with importing from cards. Nothing to help you there I'm afraid.

List of Problems with NEW Web Mail :
    - At first doesn't open full page message list or retain full page as default setting, have to drag down bar
    - Only shows 20 message lines after “pulling down” the divider, screen partially empty until I scroll down.  It should show at least 26, preferably all available
    - After moving bar, bar moves back up after going back to inbox (not delete message) after reading a message, have to move it down again, and again...
    - Doesn't go to next message when delete message on screen is selected, no setting option for default to do this.
    - There is a drop down to select which folder to move a selected email to.  The initial display shows 7 usable choices, with the usual slider and arrow to show more choices.  The space on the slider clearly shows more choices are present (actually about 20 or so are there), but any attempt to use the slider or arrow to see more choices causes the drop-down to instantly disappear.  I can't move the selected field with arrow keys either.  I can select any of the visible 7 choices, and move an email to only one of the 7.  NOTE: This one works in both IE and Firefox, but if Verizon Webmail was fully web standard (see http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Web_standards) compliant it would also work in my preferred browser, Mozilla Seamonkey, the direct descendant of the original Mozilla browser.  Webmail should be FULLY web standard.
    - Occasionally a message will move from inbox to trash, without NO indication or command to move them.
    - Emails occasionally flash an error message and simply disappear - not to trash or other findable place, just disappear.  No time to read the error message either.
    - No way to set a whitelist for supposed spam emails, unless the whitelist for “Blocking” is the same.  Very unclear.
    - How can I switch my service back to the original, basic, email which works ok?  I know it’s still there, since some of my other accounts still access it!!!
This seems my only way of getting this info direclty to the programming staff.  If it doesn't actually do this, will SOMEONE PLEASE FORWARD THIS MESSAGE TO THEM !?!
    Thanks!

Contrarily, it is Verizon's, as well as other companies like Verizon whose customer base uses a wide variety of web browsers, web page designers' responsibility to use only standard W3C-recognized code and not to use non-standard non-W3C-recognized code, e.g., Microsoft's Internet Explorer specific code, when designing their web pages. In my opinion based on my observations, Verizon's web page designers are too often guilty of using IE-specific code.

  • Can't open existing library with new photos app on iMac 10.10.3

I have upgraded my iMac to yosemite 10.10.3, with the new Photos app. I have been using iPhoto Library Manager to create and manage my libraries, which I store on an external hard drive.
Now, with the upgrade and new Photos app, some libraries open and I can access my photos without a problem, but other libraries don't seem to open. Instead, I get the new Photos windows with the demo slideshow, etc.  I'm worried that the photos within the libraries I'm unable to open are now gone.
Has anyone else experienced this? Any advice?

    How is the EHD formatted?
If the external hard drive is not formatted OS X Extended (journaled) Photos will not be able to open them.  Actually iPhoto requires the volume to be formatted that way also but doesn't check the format before opening.  Many users have been able to operated on EHDs that were not formatted properly for a while but eventually ended up with a damage/corrupted library.

  • Problems with the photo app

so recently, a day after updating to IOS 5, i was using my camera to take pictures at an event. i was using the camera from the lock screen and snapping with the up button. well as i was taking pics i would look at the pic, as one normally would. after i took the picture, the photo was perfectly clear no problem i was happy with my photos. about an hour later when i went in to view the pics, my camera roll was all glitchy. When i would scroll up or down there was a huge lag. looking through the albums, there were whole rows of blacked out squares where my pics should be. it looked like the pics had gotten corrupt. the biggest problem is when i clicked a picture to view it, it was super blurry. As i mentioned previously, the pictures were clear. normally you select a picture, and you have that second where the app refines the pictures. My phone/app was no longer refining the pictures so they were just blurry. so i restarted the phone hoping that would fix the problem. nope. i restored it to factory settings nothing.
some other symptoms include, not being able to attach a photo, either to messages, email, or facebook. when i click a photo and delete it, if i select another photo it will display the pic i just deleted. sometimes when i select photos the photo app will just crash and take me back to the home screen. my diagnoses is that my pictures have somehow managed to corrupt the photos app, but i am really not an expert. also if i try to back up my photos, from either iphoto or itunes there are no pictures at all to select.
i have called apple, they are giving me a replacement. but, hopefully this helps other people because i did not see anything out there related to my problem. i hope the next ios update can fix this issue, if it is one.

I apologize for not replying earlier after i went to the apple store. but i will explain what the apple rep did.
first off, i recommend trying several things before you wipe your iphone.
1.The obvious, reboot your phone by holding the home button. If that does not work then...
    2. Backup your phone, then do a restore from backup. If that doesn't work then...
    3. This is where it gets tricky, my dilemma is that i had taken pictures that i didn't want to lose. Keeping the pictures on my phone was the most important thing to me so i tried a couple different things. In my original post, i mentioned that i could not attach pictures to a message to email them to myself. Otherwise, I would have emailed all 100 pictures to myself, no matter how long it took. There are several Extractor programs out there but they are a bit pricey, in my opinion. The one i used was called "Photo Transfer App". You can find this app on the app store, it costs 2.99, but its an awesome little app. It is worth the money. So if you dont care about anything on your phone, if you dont mind losing all your data, eg. notes, music, or photos, then in the next step you will restore your phone as a new phone. All the above steps were my own way to try to troubleshoot the problem.
So at the apple store heres what they did...
First, I showed the girl all the problems i described above. after doing all the steps above, she was like this looks like a real problem. I told her it happened after i updated to ios 5. she said its not the ios, she has seen it on the iphone 3. but i kind of doubt that, because i have not seen anything like this in any forum. but anyways....
To save my photos she recomended i email them to myself, the Internet at the store was not that quick because
of all the devices connected so she said i should do it from home.
but the steps to email (i did not try this method):
-click photos>click the 'select photos' button (looks like a square with a right facing arrow located at the bottom left corner.)>select any photo you want to email-click share-then select email.
I had explained that i had already backed up my photos so we continued...she asked me several times are you sure you saved everything. She continued to emphasize that all my data would be lost when we restore as a new phone. i said no problem, i can do without the things i have on my phone. keep in mind when we tried to restore from backup i was having the same problems, so we decided the back up was also corrupt and was no longer useful.
To restore as a new phone. the lady said this is one of the cool things on ios 5. i'm not sure if you have to be connected to wifi, but i would think you should be connected just to be safe.
-click settings>general>reset>then click 'erase all content and settings'. this will delete everything. Make sure you select the restore as a new phone.
this has fixed the problem for me, i have not had anymore problems. The apple rep said that she thinks either something dealing with the photos app or one of my photos has corrupted the hardware.

  • With new Photos app, I can no longer drag and drop photos into other applications as I did in the past with iPhoto.

With the new Photos app, I can no longer drag and drop photos into other applications as I did with iPhoto.  For instance, I have a photo collage app that in the past, I could just drag in the photos I wanted to include.  Now, I can DRAG the photos, but they do not DROP.  So, I have to go through the export process.  It is tedious.  What am I missing?  Where can I turn on the drag and drop feature for Photos?

YOu're not looking in the right palce. That's inside the iPhoto Application.
You need to look inside the iPhoto Library
    As I sid above:
Go to your Pictures Folder and find the iPhoto Library there

  • ICloud shared photo stream stopped working with new photo app

iCloud shared photo stream stopped working since the last OX update with the new photo app.  I don't have access anymore to the sharing albums, even those that I own

iCloud shared photo stream stopped working since the last OX update with the new photo app.  I don't have access anymore to the sharing albums, even those that I own
Don't the albums show at all?
Are you signed in  with the same Apple ID that you used with iCloud before?  And are you currently browsing the System Photos Library? Only one Photos library, enabled as the System Photos library can sync with iCloud.
For me it helped to disable iCloud Photo sharing in the System Preferences > iCloud > Photos > Options
and in the Photos. app Preferences < iCloud.
Then restart the Mac and enable the same Preferences again.
    And wait.
The Shared albums came slowly back and were all back after one day.

  • Do I have to use iCloud with new Photos app?

I see that Apple has eliminated iPhoto and is going to require me to update to the new Photos app. When I read what Apple has to say about the update/change I am worried that I have to put my photos on the iCloud...  I read quotes like "If you shoot a snapshot, slo-mo, or selfie on your iPhone, it’s automatically added to iCloud Photo Library as well" and "iCloud Photo Library automatically keeps all your photos in the cloud" directly from the Apple website. I absolutely do NOT want my photos on the iCloud. I currently take photos on my phone and upload them onto my Mac when I want to, and I want to continue to do this. So I'm trying hard NOT to update my software until I understand better what the new Photos app will require of me. Any help is appreciated.
Update is OS X 10.10.3, Photos app

I see that Apple has eliminated iPhoto and is going to require me to update to the new Photos app.
For the time being is iPhoto still working very well with the latest release of MacOS X 10.10.3.  You can try out the new Photos for Mac app, while you are still keeping your main Photos library in iPhoto.
With MacOS X 10.10.3 you need iPhoto 9.6.1.  Apple does not sell iPhoto any longer, so you can neither update it nor purchase it. But you can reinstall, if you already own  iPhoto and it is associated with your Apple ID.
    See this user Tip:
Get iPhoto 9.6.1 if you didn't update before OS... | Apple Support Communities
The main idea is to move the iPhoto app to the Trash, so Spotlight does not see it as installed, reload the AppStore, and then to try to download again from the App Store - from your Purchases tab, not from the main page, since you can neither buy iPhoto nor update it, but you can reinstall, if your AppleID is associated with it.
You may need to unhide your Purchases, if you do not see iPhoto on the Purchases page when you sign into the AppStore with your AppleID:
See this link:  Hide and unhide purchases in the Mac App Store - Apple Support

  • I have problems with new photos for photostream.

I have a problem with upload of new photos to a stream I have made in iCloud.
I made this stream last friday and  had no problem. But today when i tried to upload new pictures i got a problem.
When I'm in the photostream and i choose to add new photo, I'm able to choose the picture, but after this it freeze/lock and I don't get the possibility to publish the picture or do anything else.
    I'm working on an iPad2.
    Please - what to do?

    Try this:
Quit all apps: Double tap the Home button and swipe the app preview page up for each open app
    then
Reset: Hold the Sleep/Wake and Home buttons and don’t let go until the screen goes dark and the Apple logo appears (no data will be lost)

  • Problem With New LinkedIn App

When you sync your iPhone the first thing that happens is your iPhone data from all the apps is backed up on your Mac. With only a few apps, this has usually taken only a short time. However, recently this process for me has taken a very long time, and in fact it looked like it had hung.
However, when I looked at the location where the backup data is written,
    ~/Library/Application Support/MobileSync/Backup
it showed that the backup process was continuing and that files were continuing to be written. By the time I manually stopped the backup process, after 20 or 30 minutes, more than 5000 had been written and there was no sign the process was near being completed.
Examining the contents of a good number of the files showed they seem to be "person records" associated with the brand new LinkedIn app. I should add that I don't have that many connections in LinkedIn and these records seemed to represent people I'm not familiar with.
Sure enough, after removing the LinkedIn app the backup process once again is completed in a short amount of time, so it is indeed the culprit. As an iPhone developer myself I'm not sure why the developers of the LinkedIn app feel the need to create thousands and thousands of separate files to support the application, but clearly that is not a good idea.
Has anyone else noted this problem with LinkedIn, or is there something unusual with my particular setup?

I had noticed the extended backup times but didn't think to associate it with a particular App.
i removed Version 3.0 and reverted to version 2.0 and you're right - the backup times shrink dramatically.
Yet another reason for an update to the App which is their most buggy one yet.

  • Email Attachment Problems with New Photos Program

I just spent two hours online with Apple Support to try to figure out why I couldn't get my photos to upload to my gmail - or any mail other than the Mail that's hooked directly into the new Photos program.  After two hours I was told that the only way to do this without using Photos was to send the pictures to my email of choice, download them back to my computer (are you kidding!) and then save them to a location other than the Photos program.  What the what?!!
I take photos for charities and sports teams that are used by our local papers and websites.  If you're sending photos to a business or person who does not use Apple products there are issues opening up the attached photos. I tried sending my photos through the new Photos program today but as feared the newspaper called to say they could not open my photos.  They do not use Apple products.  I had to go through a ridiculous number of steps to get these photos sent, instead of the simple attachment that used to be available with iPhoto.
My question is WHY?  Why is Apple making what used to be so simple so difficult?  Please tell me this issue will be fixed and fixed soon!  I never thought I would say this but it may be time to look at a Chromebook or something other than a MacBook.  What used to be so intuitive and creative has now become a mess worse than anything Microsoft could cook up.
    Julie Gilbertson

    Follow up, Julie!
Remember that you can use any mail provider in your Mac Mail that you wish.**
I have several different email providers as I have multiple email accounts.
When you select your pictures(s) within Photos and
click on the Share option via Email
your selected pictures get placed within the email,
you then select - within your email - which email provider you are using ( e.g. your Yahoo mail, your Google mail account, you name it).
Your choice. It is really quite easy.
    Looks kind of like this
Somebody, somewhere, is now realizing that they can use any mail provider in your Mac Mail that they want.
They do not have to log into Gmail or Yahoo mail or other web based mail servers.
    http://macintoshhowto.com/email/how-to-set-up-a-gmail-account-to-work-with-apple -mail.html
This is akin to the epiphany of years ago when millions realized they did not have to have AOL to surf the web.

  • Problems with new Photo v. 1

I just dutifully upgraded to the Photos program and lost iPhoto functions.  I'm working on an iMac 24" running Yosemite 10.10.3.  My photos had been organized into events and locations had been carefully entered.  I often used Places to organize and reflect on photos.  Now the events and places seem to have disappeared. How can I get those back??? Some of my photos were taken on an iPhone, and those locations transferred, but I use an SLR camera without location software and had to manually enter those locations in iPhoto.  Now I don't see those places nor a way to add the information.  I had also adjusted dates on those photos that I had transferred from family members.  (I am the keeper of the photos for a family that is very careless about entering dates on their cameras.) The original data carried over and I have photos from the 1800s to 2025!
Is there an editing tutorial about how to transform these photos again?  Can I go back to iPhoto until some of these bugs get worked out?  I'm more than a little unhappy. I have about 35,000 photos on this machine.

Moments in Photo are the new Events.  There's a way to simulate events in Photos.
When the library was first migrated there was a folder created titled iPhoto Events and all migrated iPhoto Events are represented by an album in the folder. To open the sidebar if it's not open use the Option+Command+S key combination.
When new photos are imported into the Photos library go to the Last Import smart album, select all the photos and use the File ➙ New Album menu option or use the key combination Command+N.  Name it as desired.  It will appear just above the iPhoto Events folder where you can drag it into the folder
When you click on the iPhoto Events folder you'll get a simulated iPhoto Events window.
The downside to the simulation is that the Album/Events can only be sorted by Title.  Ask Apple for more sorting options in Photos via https://www.apple.com/feedback/photos.html.

  • Problem with new DB app, report+form, report works great, form says ORA-01403: no data found

I have a new table, the PK is a varchar2(5) column, when I allow the default query in the report to do its work, I get all the expected data.  when I click on the edit icon (pencil), I get an error screen indicating ORA-01403: no data found.  I'm hosed!  This was generated by the app!  no changes were made to anything in the app, except to turn off tabs at create time.  I even left the default name.
My ARF is hitting the right table with the PK column, but finds nothing.  I have the "success" message showing me the PK value.  What could be going on here, and how can it be addressed?  Today is the 1st time I have seen this matter.
I'm running 4.22 as the workspace admin, I have other apps that work fine (to expectation), my browser is FF22, though I plan a downgrade to 18.  Our DB is 11.1.0.7.

Jorge, thanks for your attention to my problem, I appreciate any insights, although there is a little clarification I can offer.  Also, if you can, please remind me the tags to use in my text that would properly set off the code snippets or prior message content?
    [you wrote]
You said you have a "success" message showing you the PK value. Can you elaborate on this?
The form page, under the ARF, allows for the display of a "success" message and a "failure" message.  I have seen my "success" message appear, but it didn't show my key field as a brought-back value (which I told it to include), and I think now this is not relevant any longer.  I found that there was a link on the report attributes page between #ROWID# and a P2_ROWID that was incorrect (probably from an earlier stage of dev in the app), and I changed this to my key field, and this altered the outcome of the ARF action.  This leads to ....
    [you wrote]
Can you see the correct PK value in the URL? Does the item parameter match what you expect (correct page item and value)? Perhaps share that full URL here?
I have expected values in my URL.  The URL does show my key value (tail end of URL underlined here):
    ../apex/f?p=120:2:7519563874482::NO::P2_VCODE:RB15
    [you wrote]
Debug the page and see which process, item or step is actually failing. You could be running some other process on the form page and that could be what actually fails.  Treat it as if the ARF works correctly and see what else could be happening.
I can add the detail that my 1st message was based on testing with a table where I set the PK as data type VARCHAR2, but in more testing on the actual app (whose URL piece is above) I am using a PK which is CHAR.
    The result of the debug effort is that APEX has built its own query for pulling back the row in the ARF, and it is joining on my PK field to an APEX item P_ROWID which I don't think I created.  Nor does it appear to offer me any avenue for correcting it.    debug snippet:    where "VCODE" = :p_rowid; end;

  • Problems with new Verizon apps

The remote app worked great until the Oct 18th update.  It does not display the channel up/down volume buttons any more.  It also has an extra row of remote/widgets/keyboard that does nothing.  Can I go back to the old version that worked great?
The My Verizon app has all the details cut off with no scrolling or zooming?   It's horrible since I can't even read most of the data.  What good are these apps if they don't have the basic of functions working and have very fundamental problems my two year old can find.

    Hello thetick1234,
I LOVE remote apps for smartphone! I'm always losing remote controls around the house and remote apps are an excellent solution to this popular household issue. May I ask which remote app are you using? In most cases, returning to a previous version of an application isn't optional. I would recommend contacting the developer of the app to see if there are additional options available for you, other than downloading another remote app.
As far as the My Verizon app, I can certainly assist with the functionality of this app! May I ask what part of the app were you trying to scroll through? Are you able to successfully scroll on other apps on the device? I logged in with my Droid Bionic & I was able to successfully navigate through my account options. If the navigation issue is still an issue then I would recommend uninstalling the My Verizon app and reboot the device. After the device boots up, reinstall the app from the app market or app store, depending on what device that you have. Once the app is re-downloaded, please retest and share your findings with the community, just in case additional assistance is needed.
    Thank you...

Hi, I've just upgraded to the OS X Yosemite software and now find that I can't access the iPhoto library on my hard drive...any ideas?
