Layer Auto-trace issue in AE CC 2014

Hello,
There seems to be a bug in the CC 2014 auto-trace layer command.  When I execute the command the new traced layer does not appear in the comp above the original layer as it did in AE CC previously.  Is there a new method?  I also notice that the project and effects panels are no longer displayed side by side in CC 2014.  I must switch between work-spaces in order to see the effects window on a given layer, then switch back to standard workspace to see the project panel.
Any help or education on these matters would be appreciated.
Thanks,
JB

Nothing changed regarding the default workspaces. I think that you may be mis-remembering the previous versions.
Also, regarding Auto-trace, nothing has changed. There is an option in the Auto-trace dialog box to apply the masks to a new layer. The default for that is off. After Effects remembers and uses the last setting, so if you set this on once, it stays on for subsequent uses. You probably changed it once in a previous version and forgot that you did so.

when i used auto trace tool it is not showing the tracing of the pic

After Effects Auto Trace does not work like the Auto Trace In Illustrator. There is a preview but there's a bug in the preview of you are running a HR (Retina for Mac) display that causes the preview to be 1/4 size and in the upper right corner. Your layer either needs an alpha channel or some contrast. This is what CC looks like on my MBP R with preview on:
As long as you have not hidden the preview in your Composition Panel Settings you should be able to see the preview and if the Mask Path visibility is turned on (third icon on the bottom right) you should see the mask paths with they are created.

  • Is there an issue with Edit Auto-Blend Layers in Photoshop CC 2014?

The command Edit > Auto-Blend Layers in Photoshop CC 2014.1 does not seem to produce the expected results for me. For example, I used the Edit > Auto-Blend Layers command when I was doing the exercise on Adding Depth of Field starting on page 122 of the Photoshop CC 2014 CIB. The results: Instead of the foreground and background being both in focus, only the foreground was in focus. The background was out of focus. And, when I turned off visibility of the foreground layer, the background layer showed as transparent.

    There seems to be.
    See this thread:
Since installing the latest update of Photoshop CC two days ago, Auto Blend for focus stacking is selecting all pixels from the bottom layer instead of selecting the ones in best focus from each layer. Has anyone else seen this problem?

  • (Video) Moving Layer Causing Lag Issue with Latest Photoshop CC (12-14-2014)

    Video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EQPtBTrjfzw
I have a 218 MB PSD file that is causing me major headaches. Any time I start up the file, dragging a single layer goes at about 2 frames per second. However, if I delete one layer or simply cut and paste a layer, the lag is fixed.
    From the video:
    - Deleting a hidden layer fixes the lag
    - Removing one background layer fixes the lag
    - Cutting and pasting any background layer onto a new layer fixes the lag...
Saving and returning to the doc causes it to lag again.

  • How to customize Auto-trace selection over multiple frames?

    Hi all,
I'm working on an After Effects CS5 project that involves a lot of compositing and my material is all in high-contrast black and white. I'm looking for a way to mask individual parts of a particular clip: e.g. I have a 10 second clip with two people standing in it, one on the right and one on the left. I'd like to isolate the person on the right and hide everything else, including the background and person on the left.
I used Auto-trace to quickly find the outlines of my image and it works great since my picture is such high-contrast. Only thing is, I'm not sure how to remove the person on the left from the auto-trace selection.
I have "work area" selected in my Auto-trace options, which is amazing as it makes the Auto-trace selection span over my entire 10 second clip (as opposed to me needing to apply it frame-by-frame), but now the problem lies in removing person on the left from the entire 10 second clip. I went to the beginning of the new layer (I have the "Apply to new layer" box checked in my Auto-trace options), used the "Delete Vertex Tool" (the pen tool with a minus sign on it), and removed the selection of the person on the left, but the selection exists in all the frames following it (i.e. 9 seconds and 29 frames), and only gets removed from the particular frame I was working on.
Is there any way to get AE to remove the selection over the span of the clip as opposed to only the individual frame I'm working on?
BTW, I'm not married to this method. If anyone has a better method I could use, I'm all ears, although I would like to see this through if possible.
    Any help is much appreciated!
    Thanks
    Mike

Thanks for the tips. I checked out the super tight junk matte tutorial, and this works well for green screened content but the issue I have is that my image is completely duotone - i.e. I only have black and white in the image. See here for an example:
    http://mysite.verizon.net/vze15wlb3/IOBG012.jpg
So my challenge is trying to get certain portions of the image excluded, and I'm having a hard time doing this using rotobrush. In this case, I want to exclude the face on the left while auto-tracing or somehow rotobrushing the face on the right. Any other suggestions? I was hoping for an easier way short of applying tons of junk mattes and precomping.

  • Can no longer find or use Auto Trace in Illustrator CS11

My system was recently "upgraded" to Windows 7. Now I can no longer find the Auto Trace option in Illustrator CS 11. I see it in the preferences but cannot access it through a menu. I see "expand" but it's gray and not available. Any suggestions?

    screen-naim,
You should have Auto Trace in CS, also known as 11. It was replaced by Live Trace in CS2.
I believe it is bundled with the Blend Tool in the Toolbox (ClickHold to see it fly out).

  • Auto Goods Issue not taking place

    Hii All
I hv Maintained backflush indictor in work center and in MRP2 view it is maintained as Workcenter
    decides whether to backfluch .
But the auto goods issue is not taking place when the production order is saved and confirmed.
The stock remains the same ..
Can anybody tell the reason for that
    Regds
    Rakesh

    Hi Rakesh,
what is the control key u have maintained in Routing?
if u r using Control key PP01 - Routing/Ref. op. set - internal proc., then after Production Order confirmation u have to do MB31- Goods Receipt for Order, with movement type 101.
If u r using PP03 Routing - in-house prod. auto. goods rct, then it accepts only single operation in a Routing (or) if u r having say more than one operations in a routing, then u have to give PP03 control key for the last operation.
    I think u got it...
revert back if u have doubts.
    Thanks & Regards,

Very much appreciate your taking time to send a response. As a new user I wasn't sure if anyone would bother. Allow me to add a little more to my first post. I fit in that niche between amateur and a person with clients. For over 10 years I have covered events for a non-profit agency capturing the look and feel of 20+ events per year and was given permission to purchase a few cameras over the year. My decision from the beginning was to use the Canon Rebel. Images were spot on and only once did I have an issue with one of them (after shooting outside events in 105 degree temps for 3 days).
So, when I retired a year ago it was for me a pretty simple choice to get a Canon for myself - especially since at that time the 70D was on the cover of magazines and was very highly touted. I also did a lot of desktop publishing and photo editing which helped me realize I wanted the best sensor, sharpness, resolution and lens I could afford - the 70D. My post was actually a result of reading many online responses including your very informative replies about the 70D focusing issues. My biggest concern is that I will spend several hundred dollars and maybe, just maybe get back a camera which captures better focused images, but still not as sharp as the lower end Rebels I was using. I had hoped to purchase my first "L" lens and really get excited - not repair the most expensive camera I've bought to date.
Thanks again and before it gets noted by someone...yes, I should have pushed this issue sooner and then at least the warranty would have covered the cost. An expensivve lesson learned. But I will have to add that at least one authorized Canon repair dealer told me they have had several folks feel like I did - that it was the photographer/me as a new user having the issue and not the camera. I now know it's my camera.
Let me clarify that I don't own a 70D, so anything I say about it is from watching what others have said, mainly in this forum. But it is disconcerting to see so much complaint about a camera that's supposed to have an innovative focusing system. One is strongly tempted to suspect that they went overboard in trying to make the camera serve both still  photographers and videographers.
That said, I'm not a great fan of the Rebel line, because they lack autofocus microadjustment and I have at least one otherwise excellent Canon lens that would be useless without it. (The 70D does have AFMA, a point in its favor.)
As far as spending the $280 for the repair, I understand why it's a hard call. If I were in your shoes and were convinced that Canon understands the issue and would fix it correctly and permanently, I guess I'd go for it. If you don't think they do, but fell that you need something a cut above the Rebels, this may be a good time to buy a leftover or refurbished 7D. Even though I now have a 5D3, I still use my 7D's a fair amount and have been very happy with them. And the 7D2 has gotten such a favorable reception that's it's almost bound to make more 7D's available at a decent price.

  • Auto Trace in Illustrator CS5

I am not able to perform the Auto Trace function in Illustrator. When I bring up the Tracing Options dialog box from the Live Trace, my button in the top right corner does not say "trace". It says "set default". I have also seen it said that there is an Auto Trace drop down function in the menu bar. I also do not have this. I thought past versions of Illustrator had a tool that performed the auto trace function. I have the student version and am wondering if this is the reason I don't have this. Any help?

  • Auto-trace mask order?

    Hey all,
I'm using auto-trace to perform a stroke by stroke reveal of scanned hand-written text. The problem is the auto-trace feature places the masks in a fairly random order, as opposed to left-right or top-down. It means I need to manually reorder the masks to get the effect working as a write-on reveal. I'd normally just trace the scan with a mask and do it the old-fashioned way but there's some shape wiggle effects I need to place over the text in this case, so the masks have to stay. Any way to make the process a little easier in terms of the auto-generated mask ordering?
    Cheers

It's inherent in how this simplistic tracing algorithm works. The order of the detected regions is completely arbritray, hence is the mask order. Short of using Illustrator's Image trace quite selectively on a letter-by-letter basis, I see no way to get a more orderly initial result.
