hello friends
sorry for type(Topic) layer blending i dont know what is layer blending because i am new in PS. i have my photo and a landscape photo i want to set my photo on this landscape but when i do this its looks totally FAKE and i see lots of photos on net they look real.So i want to know what should i do to look like fully real
or can anybody tell me KEYWORDS to search it on google or any link. I find some keyword (Composite, photomanuplation, blending etc) but they are not helping me. thats why i am asking this question
sorry for bad english and reply fast

Masking subjects to put them on alternate backgrounds is a common activity with Photoshop.
This video might give you some ideas...

• History Panel Option to ignore Layer Blend Mode Changes

Using shift+plus and minus keys to see various layer blend modes eats up my History. Not quite sure why it even records... you can't use the History Brush to "blend" previous blend modes. And it is not difficult to go back to a previous blend mode. I'd like to see a History Option to ignore Layer Blend Mode Changes, like you have for Layer Visibility Changes.

OK. Changes in the Blending Dialog don't record in History until committed. Thanks!
But I don't see a way to quickly go through the various Blend Modes like you can with Shift+ plus/minus keys. I really like that keyboard method to rapidly view and compare various Blend Modes.

• Layer-Blending Options is frozen in CS3?

When I navigate to Layer>Blending Options, all the options (for blending) are frozen. For example,Say I want to change 'Drop Shadow', I hover over it,click it,but it does not take me to drop shadow options, or if I want to change the master opacity by sliding the bar,I can't do so. Blending options is the only tool in Photoshop that is freezing, all other tools/brushes/actions/presets are working properly. Using:
OS-Windows XP SP2.
Adobe Photoshop- CS3

From the sound of your post, it's probably not user error (e.g., not having the proper layer selected, etc.) but some kind of system problem.
If you have intermittent display issues, you might want to check to see if you can update your display driver - which implements OpenGL for Photoshop to use.
Go to the web site of the maker of your video card, locate the latest driver package that matches your hardware and OS, and download/install it. Driver updates solve a surprising number of problems.

• Group blend = layer blend ?

I have a very strange case, which I think is theoretically impossible ... (headscratching):
I have "group1" and inside that group, only one layer: "layer1". The blending mode for "group1" is vivid light and for "layer1" it's "normal".
Now, if I change "group1" to "pass through" and "layer1" to "vivid light" ... the result is completely different, while it should be the same, shouldn't it?
How is that possible ?!?

Ok, sorry for misinterpreting you then, I thought that was what you meant when saying: "layer groups when you apply a blend mode to them take their VISIBLE contents and apply the mode to the whole area, so its similar to applying a neutral 50% grey behind transparent pixels."
So if that's not what you meant, than I'm basically back at square one and don't know at all,
HOW you explain what accounts for the different blending results of a layer vs. of a group.
All livedocs has to say on this is:
" By default, the blending mode of a layer group is Pass Through, which means that the group has no blending properties of its own. When you choose a different blending mode for a group, you effectively change the order in which the image components are put together. All of the layers in the group are put together first.
The composite group is then treated as a single image and blended with the rest of the image using the selected blending mode. Thus, if you choose a blending mode other than Pass Through for the group, none of the adjustment layers or layer blending modes inside the group will apply to layers outside the group."
I couldn't find any other "official" definitions of the way groups affect blending.
According to this definition, all that a group actually changes is the interaction
between more than one layer inside a group.("...is then treated as a single image..."). So basically, for a single layer, there shouldn't be any difference at all between my two screenshots above. They should blend the same. A different result is against livedoc's definition.
What I meant with my last paragraph is that the "blend layer" used in my example above contains no (or almost no) 100% opaque pixels. So it's a particular case and thus maybe not the best starting point for evaluating basic rules. That's why I suggested to just use a white text layer instead (which has 100% opaque pixels).
Try the same thing as above: Cycle through all the blending modes for the layer. Then put the layer inside a group and cycle through the group's blending modes. You'll see, the results are not the same, and again, that's against the abovementioned definition.
There must be other rules in play as well here. I did an extensive Internet search, but couldn't find any other rules, that would explain the results.

• I can't set a layer blend mode to "Screen"

Hello, I'm new to Photoshop as of an hour ago (I've been using GIMP for 2 years).
I have a layer selected and I want to set the blend mode to "screen". However, the screen mode as well as several others are greyed out and won't let me select them. I'm using Windows 8 Home Premium 64 bit, and Photoshop CS6 Extended (Trial) 64 bit. I'm intending to get Adobe Creative Cloud tomorrow, but is the reason for this that I'm using the trial version? If not, what am I doing wrong? There is a screenshot below to show what I am talking about. Any help would be appreciated. Thank you!
http://i1289.photobucket.com/albums/b504/thomasbowe34/ps_zpsc5e055f5.png

Took me a few second to figure out whats wrong. But the answer is, you're in the 32 bit mode. Changing the mode to 16 or 8 { (Image>Mode>8Bits/Channel) or (Image>Mode>16Bits/Channel) } will make it available.

• Wallpaper blending help

Hey guys I'm trying to make some sports wallapagers and such and I was just looking for some help as to where I would start if I wanted to try and blend a picture like this one:http://www.vivagoal.com/images/wallpapers/tom_brady_wallpaper.jpg
How do they blend him in like that, with the colors and such.
Also I see this effect a lot: http://cdn.gamerant.com/wp-content/uploads/Madden-NFL-12-Cover-Revealed-and-Hall-of-Fame-E dition.jpg
It looks like the player is melting or something lol....are they jusy brushes or what?
Any help

That image looks like layer were blended to gether using some blending mode where layer opacity was also adjusted and some layer masking was employed.

• Has anyone ever encountered layer blend modes behaving strangely?

I use photoshop quite a bit for retouching and photo compositing. Tonight I encountered a strange problem. I was trying to create a vintage look on a photo and had a number of adjustment layers including a curves, levels, color fill and there were also a few texture/noise layers all set to varying opacities. Near the top of all this I had a vignette layer that was black around the edges and white in the center set to blend mode of multiply. Well, when I was clicking on and off I realize that that vignette layer was definitely lightening the center part of the overall image quite a bit (the part that is white on the vignette layer), almost like a screen. So I flipped the vignette layer through different opacity modes and saw that there was no change in its behavior, every mode was screening the white, even darker color and multiply. I thought maybe it was interacting in a weird way with one of the other layers so I turned all the others off except the back ground-- still no change. Then I dropped the layer down one at time until it was below the background. When I started to move it up again, it was behaving normally for a moment until I moved it up a couple levels in the stacking order and then it went back to the screen behavior. Anyway I shuffled it around a bit but there was no consitency to when it would display the correct opacity and when it wouldn't, so it did not seem to be an interaction with any specific layer. I don't know, but I can't really think of any case where white set to multiply should produce a lighter result even if it were interacting with another opacity. In any case it does seem to me that there is something going on with the overall computation of opacities. I tried creating a new black and white layer and it was also doing the same thing, behaving strange and not displaying the correct opacity.
I'm tired, so I'm going to bed. I'm going to shut off the computer and hope this goes away when I reboot, but if it does not, does this sound familiar to anyone? I'm not a regular visitor to this forum, but I thought I'd put it out there in case anyone else has experienced anything like this. I've only got 5 gigs of ram on this computer and I've been working away for a while... maybe photoshop just couldn't keep up(?) I'm using Photoshop CS5, RGB Adobe 1998 colorspace. I've never had anything like this happen in the last 11 years I've been using photoshop. Hmmm.... hope I don't have to reinstall or call support or worse. fingers crossed.

Nevermind. It is still having the problem. I have to think that this file is just corrupt somehow because I just opened another file and can't seem to cause the same problem. Basically, I can fill a layer with white, put it to a blend mode of multiply or darker color and it will block out everything of the image below, ie totally opaque. The opaqueness varies depending on the if there are other layers also on blend modes, but it does not seem to correspond to normal blend mode interaction. If I put it right on top of a regular layer with an image on it, it totally blocks it out on a blend mode of multiply... weird. I am going to scrap this file and see if the problem recurs in other files. My 2006 Mac Pro is getting some years on it and has been running pretty slow. I'm not a hardware expert but I've done everything I know how to do to maintain it. Was thinking of upping the ram to see if I can hold out a bit longer before I upgrade the computer. Wouldn't surprise me if this problem is related to the computer.

• Adding layer and let a part of the layer blend in to the background

Hello,
this is my problem:
Pic 1. I have an image I want to use as a background, however the image is not complete. I need a part of pic 2 to fullfill it.
Pic 2. The colors around the object doesn't match the colors of Pic 1.
Normally it would be best to cut the object out. However in this case it wouldn't look nice (the object is mixed out (in color) with the rest of the image). If I cut out something the object won't look "proper".
My question:
How can I blend pic 2 on pic 1, using the original object from pic 2 (as it is), and at the same time blend the colors around it, so that it matches that of pic 1 / or simply remove it somehow?
Thanks

Could you please post (lores of) the two images?
Quite possibly a masked Adjustment Layer clipping masked to »pic 2« might suffice.

• Why is a layer blending mode result altered by adding and effect?

I've done a search online and haven't come up with an answer but does anyone
know why a layers blending mode result is altered by adding an effect?
I am using CS3 on a PC (Windows XP SP2) and have two layers; one a Tiff and
a second a text layer with an ambient light and a spot shining on them. Both
layers have 3D turned on and accept lights and are in the same position in
space.
To make the text, which is coloured black, sit better I changed the layers
blend mode to soft light which works well.
I wanted to soften the edge of the text a little so I added a Fast Blur
effect and suddenly the result of the blend was completely different. If I
turn off the effect it goes back to what it was before but even if the Fast
Blur is set to zero, ie no blur on the layer, the blend result is altered.
Does anyone know what's going on?

Many thanks for that. I tried the Box Blur but it too shifted the result of
the blend. In the end, to get this job out of the door, I changed the colour
of the text to orange, lowered the opacity and used Multiply as the layer
blend mode. Adding the Fast Blur effect to this didn't shift the result of
the blend mode. It's not as sexy a look as using Soft Light but it works.

I wonder if it's something going on with the maths or this a real bug?

<[email protected]> wrote in message
news:[email protected]..
> Presumably a bug that uses the blur's convolution kernel when it
> shoulddn't. • Layer Blend mode won't show in Export?

Hi there,
I'm trying to export a composition and one of the layers has the "Multiply" blend mode applied. It looks great in the composition, but when I export it and bring it into Premiere, the layer seems to revert to a "Normal" blend mode (Its a gray bar, so It looks drastically different when the multiply blend is active).
I am using RGB+ Alpha, Apple Prores 4444. Is there a setting I can change or some way to fix this? Thanks.

Are you rendering the entire shot including the layer below your gray bar? You may be having gamma issues with Prores. You haven't given enough details to know exactly what's going on, but my first guess is a gamma issue. Try exporting an image sequence or just render animation uncompressed or uncompressed with Alpha if you need the alpha channel in Premiere.
If you are expecting the multiply blend mode in the gray bar to multiply with a layer below your rendered footage in a Premier sequence, that's not going to happen.

• Adding anchor is adding a 'sub-layer' ! help!

Help!! I haven't had this happen before,.... I created and
named a layer. Typed in a header and added an anchor -- BUT THE
ANCHOR DOESN"T APPEAR! I find it 1/2 way down my page, in a newly

'sub-layer' it deletes the layer i created... WHAT IS
HAPPENING>?and how can i stop it! thanks so much!!

• CS5 - Layer Blending Options randomly stops working completely

Okay, been trying to figure this one out for a while and it's driving me nuts. It seems like it's just some kind of crazy bug because it sometimes works, sometimes doesn't work, and I'm not really doing anything differently either way.
Right clicking on a layer and going into blend options sometimes simply doesn't work. The options come up, but stroke, gradient, drop shadow, inner/outer glow, etc... do absolutely nothing. The preview box is checked and it shows the effects properly in the little preview picture -- but it doesn't show any effects on the actual image, and when I click OK it doesn't apply them.
Any idea what could be wrong? This was happening today, then I changed nothing, went outside for a cigarette, and came back and tried the same exact thing and it worked fine. Almost positive that I did nothing else between attempts. Makes no sense...

From the sound of your post, it's probably not user error (e.g., not having the proper layer selected, etc.) but some kind of system problem.
If you have intermittent display issues, you might want to check to see if you can update your display driver - which implements OpenGL for Photoshop to use.

• First time Dual Layer Burn - help?!!

This is the 1st time I've ever attempted a DL burn. I bought Verbatim DVD-R DL discs because regular DVD-R always worked best for me & I thought the DL would work the same...
I've tried reading through the various discussions on various forums on how to go about burning the project and now my head is spinning!! all those sector things & maths!!! I've gathered that DVD+R DL are better... but I won't be anywhere near a store that sells them till next week if that & the client wants their discs now. Can I can make do with what I have??
Now for help - I'm hoping someone can give a step-by-step for "dummies" as I don't know dot about the sectors or anything!
Anyway, here's the setup -
I'm using Encore 1.5 for the authoring. Its a client's wedding disc with 3 different days ceremonies = 3 timelines. The chapters are all set from in PPro at the important events eg. vows, speeches etc.
1st timeline is the biggest at 1hr 53:44:04
The other 2 are 00:56:51:07 and 00:55:52:04.
There is 1 menu with a play movie button from which the timelines flow one into the other (with end actions), and then there are 3 other buttons - one to access each timeline individually & using an 'override' command to return to the menu & not play the preset 'end action'.
I created a disc image and encore prompted for a transition place as it "couldn't create automatically"
the transition at chapter point option is greyed out and it offers me a point (01:52:57:07) between 01:52:58:06 and 01:52:56:08.
I say ok and it builds the image. The disc info page says "8.52 GB used. 15.79MB free"
After reading some stuff online, and with the suggestions that Encore wont Burn to DVD-R DL (even though it shows the right details in the 'burn disc' section) I downloaded ImgBurn.
I checked the ISO for the layer break info and it showed 2 green stars - both at LBA 2084960 ; 50/50%.
One is VTS_02_1.VOB with N/A on all other columns, the other is VTS_02 ; PGC, chapter & cell at 1 ; start 00:00:00:00 ; SPLIP no
When I put in the disc and loaded the image this is the info in the right-hand column:

"Optimal L1 Data Zone Start LBA: None Found (VTS_02). This image has not been mastered correctly for burning onto DL disc. Cells dont meet 'Dvd-Video spec' criteria for potential layer break position.. Continue anyway?"
I select no because I'm afraid I'm doing something wrong & don't want to waste discs!!
I tried creating a dvd folder also, because I read something about it not setting a layer break & then you can use other software to put that in & burn - but encore gave me the exact same transition break message as for the image.
What do I need to do to make this project right for the layer breaks etc.??? I want to learn about the sectors & stuff but need to go slowly!!
Thanks!!

Problem #1 - the biggie - is using -R DL discs.
There are 2 reasons for the problem with these discs, the main one being that it is impossible to set a layer break anywhere other than at 50% split point.
We have tried this again & again, in many apps, and it is simply not working unless you get lucky, and with a disc that full - forget it.
The other huge issue with -R DL is the lack of support for this in the majority of players - it's optionally supported and that means "not" in most.
Early players will probably play Layer 0 but not Layer 1 as the format most likely did not exist when the player was made, and very few manufacturers actually update firmware - most obsolete the player instead.
I would recommend attempting +R DL - you can set layer breaks with these, and support is wider.
As you are using IMGburn, do *not* - under any circumstances - set the Layer Break in Encore. It's frankly unreliable.
Output instead to a DVD Folder, and create the image using IMGburn in build mode.
Please get back in touch if issues persist - we do a lot of DL titles, and have got most of the issues solved.

• Problems burning dual layer DVDs - help...please

I'm trying to burn a movie onto a dual layer (8.5gb) DVD but my 12" G4 Powerbook doesn't like it. It doesn't recognise the DVD and spits it back out after 30 seconds or so of strange noises, whirring etc. Burning onto regular 4.7gb DVDs seems to work OK, so am I doing something wrong? Can anyone help? FYI the media is DVD +R dual layer, made by Emtec (BASF).
Powerbook G4 12 Mac OS X (10.4.5)

Well I certainly am no expert on media, but I went to Apple's store to look at the PowerBook's spec's. On the 12" it says "Slot-load 8x SuperDrive (DVD±RW/CD-RW)" and then on the 17" it says "lot-load 8x SuperDrive (DVD+R DL/DVD±RW/CD-RW)." So it appears to me that the 12" does not support dual-layer discs. I know that it doesn't have a dual-layer burner, but perhaps it will not even let you do a dual disc one side at a time. Not sure, just guessing.
