Layer menu colours ps cs4

Hi
I know it is probably very easy and obvious, but after a lot of searching i cant find an answer. I have got as far as thinking its something to do with the edit> menu...  options.
So, how do i change the colour of a selected layer in the menu gui when i click on it. Currently, it is very difficult to tell when i have a layer selected or not when i click on it, as it is nearly the same colout as the general gui. I want a selected layer to be blue in the layer menu panel ( and in the animation timeline).
Thanks.

Alleluia.... at last.
I found the answer and it had nothing to do with photoshop,  It was that my OS system preferences for appearance was set to graphite for all highlights,  so photoshop uses the OS system preferences for some things, and this is what I was missing.
I got there because I noticed that the scroll bar on the screenshot above was blue , whereas mine is grey. and I set my OS appearance preferences years ago and had forgotten about them.
I've now made my highlights in PS (and everywhere else)  is a lovely shade of turquoise.

  • Can I take a frame from my project and use it as a custom menu background with CS4 and its Encore

My project is edited in CS4.
I moved it to Encore CS4.
I don't want to use any of the supplied menu templates in CS4 Encore.
I was hoping CS4 would be all I needed to create custom menus using scenes from my project.
My question is: Can I take a frame from my project and use it as a custom menu background with CS4 and its built in Encore or do I need some other element from the Adobe catalog to make these custom chapter menus and sub-menus?
    Thanks Jim

OK, I'm back. Here are my steps for creating Custom Menus with PS, En and PrPro:
In PrPro, move the CTI (Current Time Indicator) to the desired Frame. Check Frames on either side, with the Program Monitor’s Magnification to 100%, or maybe even 200% (you’ll need to scroll, but get a really clear picture). You want the clearest Frame in that area. With AME, in CS4, you’ll want to Export that Frame as .TIFF, or .BMP. I use .TIFF for this.
Now, for a caveat. When you Import this Exported Frame into Photoshop, be sure to check the specs., especially the PAR. You may have to use Image>PAR to adjust this to match your Project’s specs. Or, all might be perfect - just check this out.
Now, at this point, I choose the Library Menu, Blank, so that everything is setup. One can create the Menu from scratch, but careful attention needs to be paid to the exact naming conventions. At the very least, unless you’ve done this dozens of times before, use that Blank Menu, or similar as a guide, so you get things done, as they must be done.
Using that Blank Menu, just drag the Layer from your Exported Frame to your Menu image. It will appear above the black Background.
Add, or manipulate your Button Layer Sets, as is required, keeping them together. Remember that Button #1 will be the Button Layer Set, that is lower down in the Layers Palette. This can play a roll with Button Routing, back in Encore. Lower Button Layer Sets will have lower Button numbers.
Now, I always rename my Button Layer Sets, keeping the required characters - just changing the name. I also do all of my Button text in PS, and make sure to turn OFF Sync Button Names.
When done, Save_As .PSD, and then Import_As_Menu into Encore. Note: if you start with the Blank Menu, you can choose Edit in Photoshop, and then when done in PS, you just need to Save, and it will update in Encore. This is a personal workflow choice. I do the Edit in Photoshop route, but it is not necessary. One just needs to Import the resulting .PSD into Encore with Import_As_Menu, so that Encore does all the things that it needs to and recognizes the .PSD as a Menu.
When deciding what to base your Menu on, remember that you can "populate" your Menu with Buttons from the Functional Content. I’d suggest studying these Assets, and picking the ones that work best for you. You can still alter/edit those back in PS, so you just need to "get close."
Pay special attention to the required naming conventions. You cannot deviate from those first characters in the Button Layer Sets. They MUST be followed.
If you have any questions, do not hesitate to ask.
    Good luck,
    Hunt

  • Change Background in Menu Creation  Encore CS4 and Photoshop

I am creating a menu using Encore and Photoshop. I Used the Encore Libray to create a blank background and also created a series of buttons adusting them in Photoshop CS4. However, when I try to change the background with a new jpg or psd file I open the picture in Photoshop but not as the new background layer  I am trying to achieve. Can anyone tell me where I am going wrong?

    Dear Bill,
Thank you for your prompt reply. However, I don't think I am explaining my problem correctly so if you have the patience I am sending you this little "Jing" movie which will show you my problem

Subject: Change Background in Menu Creation  Encore CS4 and Photoshop
There should be no problem when adding the image of your choice, with Edit in Photoshop.
When you choose Edit in Photoshop, several things happen:
1.) a TMP PSD for that Menu is created.
2.) links are created between En and PS
3.) PS is launched, and that TMP PSD is then Opened in PS.
When one has edited that TMP PSD in PS, they must do a Save to allow those links back to En*.
If you are doing a Save_As, or Save_As_a_Copy, those links will NOT be followed, and the Menu will NOT update in En.
    Good luck,
    Hunt
I have encountered some instances, where a single Save does not follow those links. With experimentation, I have found that 3 Saves (Ctrl+S) will force those links to be followed, and the Menu updated in En. Not sure why this happens sometimes, but 3 seems to be the "magic number," at least for me.

  • Can I import a menu from Premiere elements 7(the Popcorn menu) into Encore CS4?

Can I import a menu from Premiere elements 7(the Popcorn menu) into Encore CS4?
If so how do I accomplish this act?
Are their additional menus available for Encore CS4?

The Menus in PrE are in Menu Sets. Each set is a Main Menu and a Scene Selection Menu. As PrE does the authoring semi-automatically, there are many "extras" in those PSD's, in the Button Layer Sets. All you have to do is make a Copy of your two Menus into a separate folder, so that you do not worry about messing up your Menu Sets in PrE. I'd do this in a new sub-folder in the Encore Library folder hierarchy. Then, Open each of these two Menus in PS. Go in and clean out all of the other languages for the Text and Button Text. Match the Layer Set/Button Layer Set names to those naming conventions in the Encore Library Menus, as you will not be getting any semi-automation. Where you do not need, say a Next Button, just eliminate that Button's Layer Set. Remember, PrE will do this semi-automatically, plus will give you the number of Scene Selection Menus, that your Project calls for - Encore will not. You must count the Scenes, divide by the number of Buttons on that Scene Selection Menu, and do Copies of that Menu, to accommodate what you require.
As for Encore, it comes with a full compliment of Menus, Buttons, and other Assets, like EM files (Templates), with Motion and Audio Assets. All can be completely customized in PS. Note: in PSElements, I do not believe that you can create Layer Sets, so that will be a limitation. The full PS has no limitations, with the single exception that to change Button Sub-picture Highlight colors, this must be done in Encore's Menu Editor, unless it's been added to PS CS5.
    Good luck,
    Hunt
PS - remember, work on Copies of the two Menus in the PrE Menu Set, and NOT on the originals, or you will be doing a Repair Install to get those back.

  • How do i create a styled spry mysql driven menu using dreamweaver cs4?

How do i create a styled spry mysql driven menu using dreamweaver cs4?
I have cs4. I gave up on using MS sql as a datasource. I finally got a php successfull connection in my PHP web page.
I would like a nice video tutorial for creating a dynamic menu.
I guess i can style it by attaching a css file to the page. Are their any already designed css files out there in some online area?
i am not a good designer. so i would like to simply have a collection of menu_style.css files and choose what looks good.
But first i need to build the spry menu from the mysql database.
    Any help is apprechiated.
My first choice was to maintain the data in an MS sql server file. If i could directly attach to an ms sql datasource then that would be the best option.
I dont think i want to have to re-generate an XML datasource each time i add or modify the menu. I would like to maintain the MS Sql or mySql file instead.
If i could generate an XML datasource from the MS Sql database then I may even prefere that, but i have spent a lot of time trying to figure out how to do that and not had any success. So i prefere working in MS sql but would settle for mySql if i had to.
    Thanks
    Jerry

Then remains the manner in which you create the XML file which can be found here http://labs.adobe.com/technologies/spry/samples/utils/query2xml.html
One you have your menu up and running, you will be able to apply styles and effects

  • Why doesn't my Layer menu look like Julianne's?

I was watching a tutorial by Julianne Kost "Creating Transparent Logos for Watermarks and Overlays in Photoshop CC  Her layer menu had a selection "Type", "Create Work Path" and mine did not.  Any idea why not?

I'll assume that's a Mac-Intel machine, as I'm not familiar with macbooks or laptops in general.  Obviously, if it were a PPC you would not need Rosetta in the first place.
Well, here's what I would do:
    I'd re-install CS4 in the hopes that will solve the problem;
    Second, I'd stop listening (and probably even speaking) to the misguided soul who recommended CleanmyMac to me;
Third, delete all traces of CleanmyMac; and
Fourth, I'd reinstall the OS and all applications on my machine.

  • How to break layer(manually) in encore cs4

    Hi,
My  project is ready to burn and wish to know the procedure of how we can  break layer manually in encore cs4 while burning  8.54 gb dual layer  dvd.
    Thanks in advance.
    Vinay

When you go to Burn to Disc, you should have a dialog screen, where you can choose "Set Layer Break Automatically," or "Set Layer Break Manually." The exact syntax might be different, but you will get the picture.
Now, some with later versions (do not recall if CS4 was in this group), have encountered issues, where the manual Layer Breaks were disregarded. There are a few posts on this, and one was initiated by Jim Simon. You might want to look over those threads.
Also, many use the free ImgBurn to do the physical Burn, and like its manual Layer Break setting function better than Encore.
Personally, I have never had a Layer Break issue, but much of that probably stems from my particular Projects, and perhaps a bit of luck.
    Good luck to you,

  • Where are Filters menu in Flash CS4.

According to flash documentation Filters are in PROPERTIES panal. But Filter are  not available.
    Plz some one help me.
    Thanks

Following what seems to be my pattern of chiming in on months-old posts...
I have found that loading Flash files intended for older systems (AS1 and AS2, I suppose) can cause the Filters menu to disappear.  If you try creating a new AS3 or AS2 project in CS4, and creating a new text object, the filters menu is right where it is supposed to be.  Creating a text object in that project, adding the appropriate filter, copying the object and pasting it into the older-type project results in a text object with no filter.
I suppose filters are relatively new to Flash...?

  • Color Balance Adj Layer Characteristics Changed from CS4- CS5?

Maybe some guru with better connections to Adobe knows the answer to this. (or maybe I just forgot).
I just discovered (and I don't think it is pilot error) that the characteristic behavior of the Color Balance Adjustment Layer is different in CS5 than it was in CS4/CS3.  (Much stronger in CS4/CS3).
In addition, there is also an associated behavior that is like a buried legacy mode that is not made visible to the user.  Here is what I mean.
If I create an image in CS4  with a single Color Balance Adj Layer, I get an adjusted image.
If I open that same PSD file in CS5, the same image is displayed.
If I use the same base image, yet create the Color Balance Adj Layer from within CS5, the adjusted image is different than the prior two.   So the Color Adjustment Layer acts like it has a hidden legacy mode where the characteristics are one type if created in CS4/CS3 yet a different characteristic if created in CS5.
My mind might be slipping (or my cold has the better of me) because I do not remember this as a documented change and I searched the internet for "What's new in CS5" etc etc.  I don't remember anything on other forums about this either.
I guess the good news is, the new characteristic of the Color Balance Adjustment Layer is better behaved with a transfer curve with less clipping for highlights and shadows.  Very similar to the better behavior of the change of the Brightness/Contrast Adjustment Layer going from CS2 to CS3.
    Here are some comparison images.
This is the Layer Stack Used with Base Image of simple B to W gradient with CB Layer on top with just the highlights pegged to red.  This is the exact same Layer Stack for all of the images shown:
Here is the first image.  This was created in PS CS4 and displayed from CS4 with the conditions show above:
This is the same image from above that was saved as PSD with profile and them imported to PS CS5 with same profile.  There was no change:
This next image is using the same base gradient, yet then creating the CB Layer from within PS CS5 with the same parameters, only the Red pegged for the Highlights:
Does someone have an easy answer for this.  Can someone duplicate this and confirm the change from CS4 to CS5.  A test by someone else would either confirm I am off base with pilot error or there is something to this.
And yes, all the images were sRGB and kept in sRGB for creation/display.  All Screenshot images were the images brought up side by side on the same color managed monitor.   All Edit > Color Settings were identical.
Thanks in advance for any help
    John

OK, Chris, but before I perform my act of self flaggelation for the benefit for all and my extra embarrassment, let me add in some useful information about the Color Balance Adj Layer that could be helpful.
I was working with another individual who wanted a better understanding the color balance adj layer, what is was exactly doing, how the shadows, midtones, and highlights interacted, and the differences with preserve luminosity checked or not, and also why the preserve luminosity was so hard to predict (e.g. did not really preserve luminoisty).
Without going into the deails of all of that, the tidbit I will leave as far as penance for my stupid original post above is that the Color Balance Adj Layer with the Preserve Luminosity box checked does a reasonable job or preserving luminoisty for the midtone adjustments yet definitely does not for the shadow and highlight adjustments.
An easy workaround for this is to just set the Color Balance Adj Layer Blend to Color which preserves Luminosity of the image presented from lower layers while maintaining the Color as best it can from using the CB Adj Layer  (It holds the Hue and does its best to keep the same Saturation yet the Luminoisty from the presented image from lower layers takes prescendence).  This does a much better job at preserving Luminosity than using the checkbox option.    I usually use this approach and keep the Preserve Luminiosity box turned off.
The error that I made was during the fairly involved exchange with this other individual, at some point I accidentally set the Layer Mask for the CB Adj Layer to 50% gray and did not notice that it had changed from the default white.  Much further down the line, when this other individual could not exactly recreate my results, he mentioned working in CS3. Thinking this odd,  I pulled up CS3, created the image from scratch (without the erroneous mask change to 50% gray) so therefore I duplicated his results and did not realize the error was in my original Layer Stack.  To make a long story short, I went and checked for differences in all system settings, profiles, Color Settings, opacity settings, Blend settings, Layer Style settings (and their options) etc, etc and overlooked a change in the Mask gray level.        When I quickly flashed back and forth between the two documents/stack it finally popped out at me. Mea Culpa.

  • Missing menu items in CS4 - PDF Presentation

I downloaded the 30 day trial of CS4 and I can't make a PDF presentation (which I do daily in CS2). There should be a menu item in Photoshop under automate and from Bridge, under tools, Photoshop, PDF presentation. I read through the documentation for CS4 and they should be there... why aren't they? I need this tool any ideas why it's missing in CS4 for me?

In another thread, this relevant exchange between myself, Anne and Rene occurred on this very subject. Had I known, I would have posted here instead. Ms. Guo, if you are indeed listening, consider putting this one back...because, specifically with open Photoshop files, it can't be pulled off in Bridge. Jbeezer points out another major problem:
"There is no control over compression and it yields a much larger PDF as in over 5x for my previous example."
    Here is the earlier exchange:
    Anne said:
"And it isn't called "Automate->PDF Presentation" in CS4 either.
It has been replaced by a multi-page PDF that you create from Bridge CS4's Output Panel and then edit in Acrobat Pro if you need to finesse transitions etc.."
    I said:
I did find that in my hunt. It doesn't work anywhere near as quickly or as well as it did in PS CS3. Not even close. It can't deal with open PS documents (at least I couldn't find a way) and it can't be set to completely remove the "jpg'ing". I tried for a few hours to get it to output a decent PDF within Bridge and just gave up. Moving over to Acrobat Pro to "fix" pretty much negates the whole Bridge step. It's actually faster to completely skip Bridge and just make a PDF directly in Acrobat Pro.
There was no reason to remove this function at all. It wasn't broken and it didn't need fixing. Yet another reason to keep PS CS3 resident...particularly because the PS CS3 parameters actually does this trick (PDF from open PS images) faster and with better quality than Acrobat Pro does with saved/converted PDF files ...in one easy step. When you get right down to it, the function Automate>PDF Presentation wasn't moved over to Bridge. It was removed.

"For more info, see "Where did Extract & others features go?"

    I said:
That's funny. There is no other information on Automate>PDF presentation in Nack's blog:
    * Picture Package, Contact Sheet, Web Photo Gallery, and PDF Presentation have been replaced by the new Output module in Bridge CS4. Of these the first three are in the optional download package, while PDF Presentation no longer works in CS4.
    * In CS4 we made some hard calls and retired a number of features. Some of these can be added back into CS4 (see Mac & Windows downloads) while others are gone for good."
    "Gone for good" applies here.

I callibrate my monitor regularly and have developed my own paper profiles using a Color Munki.I have a reasonably good DEL U2410 flat screen monitor. I know how to use my printer- paper  profiles and switch off colour management of the printer. I custom -proof my images before printing but they come out nothing like my proof. They are much, much, much darker, often muddy looking and often with a green cast. I feel sure it something to do with Photoshop and not the printer as after discussing the issue with Epson they advised me to download "Epson Easy Photo Print" and use it for a test print. "If the print is OK" they said "then the problem must be with Photoshop". Well I did, and it was! ( well heaps better anyway) Although I have more or less learnt how to compensate for the extra darkness and colour cast by increasing exposure and changing the colour balance dramatically before printing to get a half decent  print I feel frustrated that after spending heaps of money on color munki and upgraded my monitor to solve this problem that I am no better off! I have wasted SO much paper and ink trying to get decent prints by trial and error. I have paid a "Photoshop proffessional" to come to my home on one occasion. PLEASE can somebody help. What would you do ??

Maybe post screen shots of your print setup and even one of your images to see what it looks like on another monitor. I recently had an issue with an epson profile i was choosing, which was wrong. i had 2 different profiles for epson glossy, one had a different 2 letter code in front and after finally trying the other one,my printing returned to normal.may be totally unrelated to your issue, but i figured i would throw it out there.

  • Is this possible with Spry menu and Dreamweaver cs4?

I just starting to learn DreamWeaver cs4 and Spry, I am building a website that has a flash banner, menu bar(which is using the Spry Menu Bar, and a area for content.  I have set up the content area with a DIV tag content_column.  Now, I would like to have the link from the menu bar, populate the "content_column" with a external web page.  I know that I can use the _parent, _blank, etc. setting for the target which just opens that link into a new browser page or replaces my current page,  but I would like that link to open in the "content_column" part of my web site.  The reason why I want this to happen, is so that the whole page, including the banner doesnt have to load ever single time the user click on a differnt menu option.  These external pages will have different elements in them suchs as text, images, and .swf files.
    Thanks in advance,
    Gregg

Gregg,WELCOME!!! To the Dreamweaver Spry Forum! I see it is your first post...
Instead of using frames (of any kind) to show "other" web pages within your present page, try out the Spry Tabbed Panels widget.
I think it will do what you want. I've used it quite a bit, in various incarnations, and it is quite satisfactory in not redrawing the page every time you strike a tab.
Here's a link to some Spry simulations: http://www.adobe.com/devnet/dreamweaver/articles/spry_simulations.html
