Layer Style Palette Color Picker
In my layer style palette I don't have a box that is allowing me to change or choose the color.... how do I get that to show up?! It used to be there but now it is gone! I am attaching a screenshot of what I am seeing. I can't seem to figure out how to change the color from red! HELP!
Just select the Color Overlay option in the left hand menu as nicknal2 has suggested?

PE 4.0 can you save custom layer styles?
How do you create your own layer styles and make them available in the layer styles palette? Is there a way to do it with Elements?
For example, if you have your bevels, your shadows, your inner & outer glows, all set up just the way you want them, and you'd like to re-use them in the future in other compositions, then it would be useful to be able to save your layer style.Hi there Patrick,
Using Photoshop it is possible to create and save your own layer styles but this isn't possible in Elements ... what you could do is save the layer in a file of its own then drag and drop it into your new image and do
Layer>Layer Style>Copy Layer Style
Layer>Layer Style>Paste Layer Style
Then discard the old layer ..
Long way round but it sort of works ... well providing the sizes, resolutions etc are similar...

Color range selection + layer styles
Hello--
Help me if you can!
I have had it on good authority (my photoshop instructor) that color range selection hasn't been working correctly for some time.
I'm using CS2, version 9.0.2 on an IMac os X version 10.5.8.
I am often working with multiple layers that are not similar at all. When I have one layer active and do a color selection, it may also select the color range on inactive layers. Then, if I do a fill, for example, it may affect areas on other layers that were inadvertantly color selected. I know there are ways to ask photoshop to perform a function on all layers, but I don't see this as an option or setting with color range selection. I had started to assume it was sort of like crop, which affects all layers, but when I asked, my teacher says it should only be selecting/affecting the layer that is active.
I found I can deal with this by 'closing the eyes' (making non-visible) the other layers...but that is a hassle and sometimes hides exactly what I need to see.
Then noticed, just lately, that when I use a layer style, it is no longer showing up on my layer palette. Maybe I don't understand correctly, but I thought any layer style addition would show up on the palette under the name of that layer. If I happen to remember that a particular layer used a layer style, I can still click on the layer styles icon and alter it, but it isn't displaying on the layer palette any more--so I cannot toggle or discard the effect simply, and it is hard to know why a layer looks the way it does without that information.
Could be I'm corrupted and need to deinstall/reinstall? Is there something I'm missing about these functions , or something I accidentally changed? I would really appreciate any help or information.Yes your instructor is wrong, it always selects visible pixels, and always has. If you want Color Range to work in precisely the same way as it always did in the old versions you need to make sure that you ..
• Highlight a non masked layer and
• Uncheck the somewhat bizarrely entitled "Localised Color Clusters" checkbox
The changes to Color Range happened a few versions ago, to my memory it was with CS4 . The main improvement was that they made it more powerful with the capability to produce better more refined selections. They also unfortunately made the daft mistake of making the command work DIFFERENTLY depending on whether you have a masked or a non masked layer selected. This is not very logical really because it just causes confusion, and doesn't really achieve anything constructive in my opinion. No one who knows what they are doing wants to modify an existing mask using Color Range. -
HELP ! why doesn't color picker select specific color ? i make secondary layer and use the tool but no colors are selected and the gray out menu shows nothing !

Q Color picker icon outside the color palette.
Good day, I was working ( or practicing, I'm an AI newbie ) with AI then I noticed that when I select
an object, and I wanna fill it up with color, when I click on the color palette and I hover the mouse pointer
outsite the color palette to the working area, the mouse pointer doesn't change into a "color picker" like

Anyway, I've already managed to present a sample image. Here it is :
As you can see on the image above, in Adobe Illustrator, when the color palette is on, and I try to hover the mouse pointer outside the color palette to the working area, the mouse pointer remains as a default pointer (encircled in red). While in Photoshop (below), the pointer automatically turns into an eye dropper or color picker tool and I can easily click on a color that I want to copy. I find it very useful when working with gradients.
I'm just wondering if the changing pointer is not available in Adobe Illustrator. But then again, I think that's a bit impossible. Maybe I'm just missing something. Thanks Jacob. Cheers!

i have a Problem with Illustrator CS6. I've attached an image below.
I have an object with gradient fill and i've selected the first color stop.
In previous Versions of AI i could the pick any color with color Picker while holding the shift-key.
In CS6 this changes the color only in the Gradient Panel but not the Object itself:
I have to admit that i'm glad not to be a creative cloud user so i'm able to switch between Ai cs 5.1 and 6
because both have some features missing in the other version.

This still works for me in CS6 mac, but more importantly try not to use Shift eyedropper. The topic has been discussed here many times. Shift eyedropper is not accurate and samples the screen values, not the actual color.
Try using global swatches more often. Try this instead
select a gradient stop
Alt click on a swatch
If the swatch is set to global, you can easily change/adjust/merge colors later with one command on a global document level.
Thanks for the advice. I never had problems with shift-click picker i sample colors from other objects and even if they have Spot colors assigned it works, at least in CS5. I've tried in CS6 it's just not working. I've been told that there has been many discussions and i've read some. I'll stick to CS5. I'm very disapointed with adobe. This is a known bug it has been reworked on Mac Versions but not on PC. -
Is there a way to use the old color picker in Dreamweaver CC?
I wonder if there's any way to rollback to the "old" color picker in Dreamweaver CC. The new one is very time consuming for someone used with the old one for years (i had some key colors memorized by their position in the old color picker).

You should be using a Color Palette Utility like Iconico's free ColorPic to store your key color codes.
Another tip for ready reference, put color codes inside CSS comments within your style sheet.

It's possible to disable the option to select a custom color? I work in a enterprise who makes softwares to brazilian clients, and not everybody understands english phrases...
Another way it's to translate the option, but I don't know if is possible too.

scene.getStylesheets()...
to
root.getStylesheets()...
you'll see that it won't work any more.
The difference between this and the css you used is that the css you used is applied to the display of the color picker button; you need to apply styles to the popup (the color palette), which is not contained in your VBox or AnchorPanes. Notice how the font has changed for the name of the color in the button, but it hasn't changed for the "Custom Color" label you are trying to remove.
Somewhere there is some code that is adding the VBox you are subclassing to a Scene, and setting that scene into a stage. Your best option (perhaps second best option, see below) is to find that code so you can add the stylesheet to the Scene itself.
If you're working within a framework someone else has written, and can't access or change the code where the scene is defined, you have another option that I can see. Every Node has a scene property that refers to the scene to which that node belongs. So you could observe changes to that property and when it's updated, add the stylesheet to the scene.
So here is a hack to make my original hack work, in the event that you cannot access the scene directly, for some reason:

This code basically says "when the color picker becomes part of a new scene, add the stylesheet to that scene".
At this point, you're applying hack on top of hack to get the effect you need. I think if I were in this situation I would just go ahead and define my own color picker. All you really need is a MenuButton, a property to hold the selected color, and a popup with a layout of controls to choose an arbitrary color. It would be a bit of work, but shouldn't be too hard. If you take this option (which I think may be your best bet), it's more work now but it will be clear what you are doing - when you (or other programmers on your team) come back to the code later you'll understand how it works much better.
You should also file a couple of feature requests. One for API to enable/disable the option to choose a custom color, as this seems like a reasonable piece of functionality to have. The other should be for properly internationalized text for the labels in the color picker, as these are currently just hard coded into the source code in English. -
CS3 Character Style Changes Color On Save
Hi All-
I have a CS3 file where I imported character styles (using the character styles palette -> load character styles) from another file. I apply that style to a type layer, it looks fine (i.e. is applied correctly), then I save the file, and close. Upon opening the file that char. style's color is changed from white to a spot color. Any idea why?
System: AI CS3 on Windows XP 32bit

I had a similar problem, which was caused by type having "overrides"
when applying Character Styles.
This is indicated by an asterisk appearing in the Character style name in the palette) when you select the type.
This has something to do with applying a new style to type which already
has some appearance attributes.
Found that the solution was to clear overrides when applying a character style to selected type, by Alt-clicking on the new character style.
Then, hopefully, the character style of the type is saved properly, and displays correctly the next time you open the drawing.

Color picker crash Windows DW 5.5
Hi,
Dreamweaver CS 5.5 on Windows 7, 64-bit is crashing when I use the System Color Picker. If I choose from the web safe palette, it's fine, but when I click on the color wheel to expand the tool, it freezes every time. I have to restart the program.
I have uninstalled and re-installed twice. I have deleted my configuration files and site def files. I have no extensions installed and I have installed all udpates.
I know there's an issue with the color picker on the Mac, but this is on Windows, not on a Mac.
Any ideas for further troubleshooting?

I just tried it and it crashes in Design view and Code view when using the CSS Styles panel or the Property Inspector.
In Code View, when it pops up as part of the autocomplete process when coding, I am able to click on the color wheel without it crashing, choose a color, and choose okay. The dialog box closes, the program does not crash but...the hex code is not added to the code.
When I replicate this same step in Code View, but choose from the web safe palette, it works fine--doesn't crash and it inserts the hex code correctly. I am also able to successfully use the web safe palette from the styles panel and PI.
I also discovered the Format > Color command from the top menu which I've never used in my 12 years of using Dreamweaver. I was able to successfully choose a color and create a CSS rule from that command. (But that's kind of a strange workflow...)

Layer Styles Grayed Out (PSE6 Mac)
I want to add a glow effect to some text, i have it in a seperate layer to the background, but when i try and clik on layers -> layer style -> style settings it is grayed out and unclickable!!!!!!
HELP METhat's not how you do it. Go to the Styles and Effects palette (It should be in the bin, but if not, you can make it visible from the Window menu), click the layer styles section (hover your mouse over the icons on the palette and the popup text will tell you), and then choose the glows from the pulldown menu. Pick the one that's closest and double click to add it to your layer.
After you've done that, the layer will show a little script fx in the layers palette. Double click that for the styles editor and you can change away.
The Style Settings menu command is grayed out because you have no style to see the settings of, not yet. -
Choosing font color for titles in fcpx without using the color Picker
I am working with a lot of titles. I would like to use a consistent color in all of my titles. I know how to select text color with the color picker in the inspector. I find this very cumbersome. Is there some way to numerically specify the color (e.g. R= 45, G=55, B=120) or to have a preset palette I can choose from? I found that by double clicking on the color swatch in the inspector that I can bring up a colors window. I can store custom colors there, however I can find now way then to apply that custom color back onto the font. There must be some way of doing this that I am missing. Thanks for your help.
You can create an entire "Style" in one title and save that style as a preset.
Create the look of your Title for the first instance. In the inspector > Text pane, click on the label at the top (usually shows: "Normal" until you set a specific style) -- from that dropdown menu, select Save All Basic and Style Attributes.
You can then: Select ALL of the titles you want to apply those attributes to (shift click or drag a marquee through them all) and use the dropdown menu to apply the style you saved in one fell swoop. -
Modify drop shadow layer style
In PS5 is it possible to modfy a drop shadow layer style changing it's color and opacity without changing the entire layer?

As others have pointed out, unless there is some information missing in your problem description, you are observing normal and expected behavior. To clarify with screenshots what Noel and others have said above:
When you invoke layer style dialog box by double clicking on the active layer, by default it shows the controls for Blending Options. See the words Blending Options highlighted in blue on the left and the headline Blending Options in the main pane of the dialog box!
Merely checking the box for drop shadow does NOT make the drop shadow controls appear. Blending Options is still selected (highlighted in blue) and the controls in the main pane still have the headline Blending Options!!
To display the controls for Drop Shadow you need to click on the words Drop Shadow. Then the layer style Drop Shadow has the focus and the Drop Shadow controls are displayed. You can see this because the words Drop Shadow are now highlighted in blue and the headline over the controls in the main pane says Drop Shadow:
When you select the FX button at the bottom of the Layers Panel, you select the Layer Style you want at the same time, so the Layer Style you chose already has the focus when the dialog box appears, and the relevent controls are automatically displayed. -
Controling stroke in layer style
Hi,
How do i control the color and opacity of the stroke in layer styles?
I am using Photoshop cs3 extended, seems like i have not choice but red color and 100% opaque!

Now select the stroke tab by clicking on stroke at bottom of side option.
Refer the attached shot for the other settings.
Click over the color to open the color window, select the color.
Move the opacity slider to change the opacity.

Color picker bug in photoshop CC
Hey guys,
Has anybody seen this bug yet.
This will pop up on a new document when trying to change colors. It shows with the color picker, the swatch panel, hitting d or x. However alt-backspace and ctrl-backspace work.
Rebooting photoshop does not help, nor does shift, alt, ctrl on reboot.
At first I thought it was the document itself, but it also occurs with file>new>web 800x600.
If it helps, the error does not show with no document open (all documents are closed)
