Layered vector AI file with raster (Photoshop) layers included as vector layers?

I've been using Illustrator since the late 80's but this request just now came up for the first time, twice in one day: the clients each want me to send them layered files (OK-no problem) wherein all the layers, even the raster layers, register as vector layers. Or at least all the layers, regardless of file-type (vector or raster) are contained within an unflattened Illustrator file. One of the clients specifically asked that the Type layer (No problem-all the type is on one layer) be "vector mapped", whatever that means, while all the other layers can be Photoshop layers, if necessary. So how do I hand them an open, unflattened Illustrator file containing both vector art and raster art? Can someone point me to a Knowledgebase article or a previous post that addresses it? Can it be done in Acrobat, as a PDF? I'm working in AI and PS CS5, but I can and will upgrade if I have to.

Point is, just send them the unflattened AI or PS file with live type--type that one could double-click on the text layer in PS or use the type tool in AI to edit the text. That's the gist of it. Hopefully they have those fonts. If they do not have the fonts, you can outline the type in AI and it is still vector, just not editable as type.
And you likely have some client education needed. They need to understand the ramifications of using live type insofar as they need to own the exact same fonts you are using (you cannot legally just supply the fonts, they need to purchase the fonts) in order to prevent issues if they want to edit the type.
And yes, you can export as a PDF and keep the text live depending upon the effects used, else it could be rasterized. Something they evidently do not want.

Can't open a PDF file with acrobat photoshop album starter 3.0

scanned pictures and saved them as a PDF file in another computer. I think the version was 6 (but not sure). I downloaded acrobat reader (version + acrobat Photoshop to my computer.
now I'm trying to open the files in order to make some changes in the photos (cut them and so on), but I cant open them. can open them with the acrobat reader. but not with adobe Photoshop album started 3.0. I am getting a massage saying "the PDF file foes not contain any photos" and it shows the location of the file. the file definitely contains photos. what do I need to do?

Is it Photoshop Starter Edition that is giving your the No Photos message or is it Reader?
If the PDF has photos in it, and you open it with Reader, you should see a toolbar called Picture Tasks. Picture Tasks will let you extract the photos.

Problem with uploading files with DMR (rights management) included in them to a Zen Visio

I though I had got this fixed but nope still having problems so hope you clever people can help me out.
I have the ZVM and it is great, I have been able to transfer movies, CD's, photos all with no problem with a music track taking approx 2-3 seconds. However when using music files with DMR (those from HMV's music rental - this is the reason I bought the player) have big problems in transferring. I have been in touch with the tech guys at HMV and they took me through a firmware upg, re-installation of the Creative software updating the licenses in the music files and then lastly a format. Just after the format it looked as if everything was working fine however things started to slow down and now I am struggling to get tracks over. Again this is only those with DMR and all normal files (music, video, photo) go on fine. I only have 4Gb used so I can't see it is down to that.
Are there any other things I can look at doing or is the player useless for the reason I bought it's

Thanks Jason that seems to have helped a bit. I can now transfer using the Creative M Series Media Explorer software but not with Windows Media Player. Also when I try to use the Creative Sync Manager it is crashing out every time. My concern is that without the latter working how will I easily get the files on the ZVM updated so that the DRM does not stop the files playing (also I would just like everything working properly!!). Any further suggestions?

I cannot associate files with Adobe Photoshop CC

Since installing Photoshop CC, I cannot associate jpg's or psd's with Photoshop CC. I have used the "open with..." dialog box (something I have done a million times, so I know what I'm doing), but after choosing Photoshop, it does not appear in the list of recommended or other programs and will not open the jpg or psd file in Photoshop.
FYI, I installed Photoshop CC while Photoshop CS6 was still on my computer. I then deinstalled Photoshop CS6 and that is when I noticed the problem.
Please help...this is extremely frustrating.

Thanks middle.aged.hack - your regedit fix got my files opening correctly again.
I was having the same problem as the OP but with InDesign CC this time. No matter how many times I used "open with..." and pointed the dialogue box to indesign.exe, the program would just not show up in the list, but after your regedit, up it popped.
I still have a minor gripe (with Adobe or Windows mind, not you). Because these are after the event associations rather than the original install default, the icon that shows up in windows file manager is the "I'm only an associated filetype" with the smaller logo inside a document icon, rather than the full blooded, "I am this applications proprietary document type" icon (see comparison of Illustrator equivalents below):
associated filetype (not full icon)
application specific file (proper icon)
So my .psd and .indd files are using the associated filetype icon not the proper icon you'd normally get.
It's minor to be honest, but it niggles me as I'm used to looking for a certain kind of logo for a ccertain kind of filetype.

Trying to associate .png files with cs5 photoshop

... and photoshop.exe won't show up in the programs list, no matter how much I try!

Now that I've uninstalled CS4, the .png files are reverting to being opened with Fireworks. But I need them to open in Photoshop. However, when I try to associate the .png extension with photoshop.exe... it won't take it! And in Explorer, when I right-click on a .png file, it won't even list Photoshop.exe as one of the options, even if I browse for it, find it, and click on it.
And I can't even get the new Photoshop to be accepted through Picasa! Yikes! Any trick to this?

Not sure why PS CS5 is not taking for you. Could your installation have a problem?
Here is XP-Pro's Control Panel>Folder Options>File Type Associations screens. In my case, PS CS2, there is never an issue, so long as the Always use selected program box is checked:

Raw files with CS5 photoshop and Nikon D3300

I currently have CS5 suite, I know it's old..but its what I have to work with. I just purchased the Nikon D3300 and cannot open the raw files. I installed the 8.4 dng converter, but obviously that does not work. i tried to uninstall it and install the 6.3 as I read that on a board. But I can't even uninstall the 8.4. No option for that in the uninstall in windows..it just does not come up. Help!! How do open the raw files in CS5?

You need Windows 7/8/8.1 to run the DNG 8.4 converter. Which do you have?
Before you do anything, there is a proper way to use it. You convert a folder of raw files not a single raw file.

The DNG converter is a single executable file. There are no registry entries. That's why there is no uninstall in the Control Panel. All you have to do is locate the file and delete it.

Files with raster image file extension ".THM": is it needed on Macs?

I've offloaded AVI videos files from a Canon digital camera. With each AVI file is a THM file. Does it serve any purpose when playing the AVI file in Quicktime on Macs or PCs?

Not really.
The .THM file is a thumbnail image. It acts like an icon preview of the .avi.

Dreamweaver CC 2014 still wants to open jpg, png, gif files with uninstalled Photoshop CC rather than installed Photoshop CC 2014

Anyone know a fix. It seems that it wants to look for photoshop.exe and still wants to look for the uninstalled Photoshop CC folder.
1. Yes, I have set the Preferences in Dreamweaver to point to Photoshop CC 2014 as the Primary.

I also had to do this fix to get PSD, IND, AI and EPS files to open in their respective programs: Photoshop: CS6 not default program for jpg and/or jpeg in Windows 7 Professional 64-bit

Opening files with Chinese Photoshop

I have to exchange magazine advertisiment that I create with my office in China. They can never open my PSD file. What could be the problem? Is there a solution?

Are your and their version number the same? What error do they receive? Can you open something if they send it to you?
Have you been able to troubleshoot the problem with them? For example, if you send a very small, single-layer PSD can they open it? Could it be fonts they don't have?

The first csv file is easy (report attributes -> report export -> enable CSV output Yes). However, our users demand 2 csv files with different report columns selected to meet their different needs.
(The users don't want to have one csv file with all report columns included. They just want to get whatever they need directly, no extra columns)

I'm doing it usually. Typically example would be in the report only the column "FIRST_NAME" and "LAST_NAME" displayed whereas
in the csv exported with the UTL_FILE the complete address (street, housenumber, additions, zip, town, state ... ) is written, these things are needed e.g. the form letters.
You do not need another page, just an additional button named e.g. "export_to_csv" on your report page.
The csv export itself is handled from a plsql procedure "stored procedure" ( I like to have business logic outside of apex) which is invoked by pressing the button "export_to_csv". Of course the stored procedure can handle also parameters

Photoshop CS3 shuts down after opening a PSD file with layers

Hello, I have met a problem with Photoshop CS3 (Windows XP SP2, no network printer) - after opening a PSD file with layers (saved with CS2) Photoshop shuts down. No error message.
Can some of you help me? (The only software that I have installed after Creative Suite CS3 is Corel X4. I have installed no upgrades of CS3.)

Mixing layered Photoshop files with PICT files

Hoo boy...this one has me scratchin' my head...
The facts: FCP 5.1.4, OS 10.4.11, QT 7.4.1 Photoshop CS3...
Here's the problem: I've imported a layered PS file and animated it. However, as you may have noticed, when you apply a blur to a PS layer in FCP, the blur is cropped at the "bounding box". So in order to get around this, I saved out the layers I want to blur as PICT files with alphas. Same position, same size image field, no changes whatsoever...
...however, when I place the PICT file in the sequence with the rest of the Photoshop layers, it just causes all sorts of odd behavior. Unrendered layers jump around out of position, making it impossible to park the playhead and line things up. When I render the sequence, the PICT files, which look like they're positioned correctly, all of a sudden aren't. When I adjust the PICT layers by one unit, and re-render, now they're way out of position in the opposite direction.
I've tossed prefs, made sure that the PS file and the PICT files are the same field size...I'm confused. Anybody ever observed this wierd behavior? Or have republican stooges invaded my CPU?

Don't use .pict files in FCP. This is bad.
Save them as TIFF or PNG and use those instead. If you got them from someone else, have them send you new ones in either of the above formats.

Need help moving photoshop files with layers

I have been having some trouble, when I attempt to move photoshop files with a CD-R disk, from my school pc to my home mac, only the top most image is moved. The layers are deleted, and I only receive the image on the background layer. I need the layers to continue working on the pieces. Would a flash drive transfer the whole file, or am I doing something wrong with the disk file?

Yeah, time is a factor because the system is getting wiped in a few days. The school version is photshop 7 I believe, and I have photoshop CS3 extended here. What I did was save the file to the CD burner, I didn't change the format to my knowledge. I thought that the data would have transfered from computer to computer, but it didnt, its like it saved as a different file entirely. I assume that using a flash drive would preserve the info in its entirety. I guess your saying that the type of file its saved as changes whether its a photoshop layers file, or just a flat image. I'll try again tomorrow.
