Layers don't show thumbnails.

Why don't my layers show thumbnails?

This setting is a per document setting. So you may get documents with the layer thumbnails suppressed. I often have to do this to keep Illustrator from slowing down with very intensive files. Every time you make any change to the content of the file Illustrator has to update that little thumbnail. Depending on the graphic this can cause Illustrator to slow.

  • The preview and cover flow don't show thumbnails of the quicktime videos. How to fix?, The preview and cover flow don't show thumbnails of the quicktime videos. How to fix?

When I upgraded to Mavericks the cover flow or the preview pane in finder don't show a thumbnail of an uncompressed quicktime movie. I use this to search for the correct clip so it was very useful in prior versions of OS X but appears to be left off in Mavericks. If anyone knows a work around I would appreciate it since I work with thousands of video clips. To click each one seems very tedious.
Also, when I click on an uncompressed video, quicktime "converts" the video to some different format. Why doesn't it just play the video instead of converting? Is there a way to stop this? I hate have to say - no I don't want to save this file.
    Arrgh!

Does anyone in the community have insite into this issue (same with animation compressed QT's). Is this just the way it is moving forward (a terrible thing) or is it a bug that will be fixed in the near future. Apples silince on if this is a "feature" or a "bug" is frustrating.
    Thanks.

  • DNG file types don't show thumbnails or previews

I am having trouble with Adobe Bridge CS5 for Mac OSX.  Up until last week it was working fine.  I haven't made any changes to my computer or my camera or anything like that.  But now .DNG files won't show their thumbnail or preview.  I only see the icon for the file type in the thumbnail list, and then when I click on the thumbnail, I just see a bigger version of the file type icon in the preview window.  However, JPEGs show up just fine.
I've searched through this forum and tried:
    - Resetting the Workspace
    - Resetting Bridge to default (Opening it with the Option key pressed)
    - Purging the cache
    - Checking that Camera Raw is properly installed (I have 6.7)
    - Updating DNG Converter to 8.3
But no luck yet.  Is this a new issue or something?

What about your old DNG photos which used to display properly? Can you still see those okay?
Have you set the Compatibility preference in DNG Converter to Camera Raw 6.6 and later?
Can you confirm that you have only one copy of Camera Raw 6.7 installed, and no other versions in alternative File Formats folders?
You could also try ACR 6.7.1:

  • ANSWERED-Layers don't show up in the layers panel - Photoshop CC

AH-HA! There's a new button to turn on and off layers - I discovered it quite by accident. I will leave the post in case others need to "find" that button. It's at the top of the layers panel to turn layer filtering on/off.
Photoshop CC, Windows 7 Home Premium
I added a new layer - it doesn't show up in the layers panel.
I added a shape - it doesn't show up in the layers panel.
I converted a layer into a smart object. - It doesn't show up in the layers panel.
THEREFORE - I CAN'T SELECT ANY OF THEM!
The document I am working on was created in CS6. It has a frame - WHERE IS THAT LAYER?
    Thank you for any help/suggestions.

    That won't work either !
I made a new page from that tmpl and saved it. Closed DW ... opened it ... but nothing.
Also deleted the cachefile while DW was closed.
    Strange !?

  • After upgrade to 9.2 my thumbnails don't show up

After upgrade to 9.2, my thumbnails don't show up.  I know the photo is there because I can click on the space where the outline is and get a picture. Anyone??

Back Up and try rebuild the library: hold down the command and option (or alt) keys while launching iPhoto. Use the resulting dialogue to rebuild. Include the option to rebuild the thumbnails. This can take three or four goes.

  • Thumbnails don't show in Finder or Stacks

I use a MacBook Pro running OS X Leopard 10.5.6, VMware Fusion 2.0.2, Skitch and Pixelmator.
As you can see, sometimes, OS X doesn't show thumbnails of pictures in Finder or Stacks.
Everytime this happens, *I have to re-boot my Mac.*
I have no idea why this happens and workaround but all I can do is just re-boot.
Anybody having the same or a similar issue?
Time Machine has nothing to do with this because I don't use it.
However, I have a doubt on VMware Fusion, I've got no proof though.

I am also experiencing the same issue where thumbnails will not load in icon view. This system is less than 2 wks old with little in the way of changes from the factory default settings. When working from the local HDD the system will get into a mode where it will either stop displaying thumbnails of png or jpg files or it will take minutes to load the thumbnails (when there are <30 files in the folder). If the system is rebooted the thumbnails will load correctly again. The need to reboot several times a day though for proper icon view thumbnails is a real irritation. After convincing my wife to convert to a Mac for superior reliability this is a real disappointment.
Any suggestions to resolve this would be greatly appreciated.

  • Raw thumbnails don't show up in Photoshop they do in bridge

Raw thumbnails don't show up in Photoshop they do in bridge

Since I have to go, I suspect that it is not Photoshop, but Windows 7, whose dialog boxes Photoshop uses.
You can set up Windows to display raw thumbnails using the Microsoft Codec Pack which you get here:
How do I view RAW pictures in Windows 7? - Microsoft Windows Help
Then Photoshop should be able to display them as thumbnails.

  • IPhone pix thumbnails don't show in iPhoto

Just upgraded to Snow Leopard yesterday. Took some photos with my iPhone 3G. When I sync the phone with my iMac, it launches iPhoto but the thumbnails don't show in iPhoto, only the yellow dashed line indicating they are there.
The photos download fine so this isn't a huge issue, just odd. Anyone else run into this and have a fix?
    Thanks!

I think what I have noticed is that the thumbnails for screenshots (which are .png format) don't show up before importing. The thumbnails for regular pix should.
    I didn't worry about a fix.

  • My thumbnails are not showing up next to the icons in finder.  Also the back arrow and forward arrow as well as the list options don't show up.  Any suggestions how to get them back?

In my Finder window, the picture icons that usually show up next to the items are not there.  i.e. in my sidebar, the little pictures that are usually by the Application, Desktop, Documents, etc items.  Also, the back and forward arrows, list items and tasks don't show as well.  Any ideas on how to get them back?

  • Indesign CS5.5 can't select objects, they don't show in layers panel either

I received an .indd file from a client. There are certain objects that I can't select. I know they aren't locked because I can't select "Unlock all on spread." The weird thing is, the objects don't show up in the layer panel. If I uncheck the layer's eye, they disappear. But if I uncheck the eyes of all the individual objects within the layer, the objects I can't select are still visible. I'm attaching a screenshot. Can someone help please?

The items are on a mster page.
In the Pages Panel, go to the master associated with the page you're on, there you'll find the things you're after.

  • Some photos don't show in LIbrary view--just the outlines of them

Tonight I tried to transfer a bunch of digital photos from a CD my daughter burned into my iPhoto library, into the 2006 year folder.
I opened the CD and in the icon view, the pictures looked fine--jpeg files.
After I transferred them, these pictures don't show in my initial iPhoto window (the one that opens first when you click on iPhoto in the Dock, and shows all the pictures in my Library sorted by (in my case) roll/date.
Then photo thumbnails from years prior to 2005 show up, fine, but for the most recent year of pictures, all I get are the outlines of where the thumbnails ought to show. When I click on one of the blank thumbnails, of course I get a blank ...but the frame in the lower left shows the ID info for the picture and the picture counts, etc.
I can open the folders from the Pictures file and see them...they just won't show up in the overall Library window.
So...I moved the transferred ones out of the iPhoto library and just put them in the Pictures folder for now.
But what did I do? And how do I "fix it" to make all the thumbnails show up again? This is probably some simple thing...but I can't figure it out. I tried showing just the last 12 months...and I get all the blank outlines.
    G4 iBook   Mac OS X (10.3.9)   Using iPhoto 5, 768MB RAM,

    Hi john,
First problem. You need to import photos into the iPhoto Library the correct way which is while iPhoto is open. Drag the photos out of where you put them (you already did) now you can import them into iPhoto from there.
Read on for more info....--First thing to know and remember is this...Do not drag any images, folder of images into the iPhoto Library in the Finder. Images have to be imported into iPhoto within the application. Do not scan images and save them into the iPhoto Library folder in the Finder. Save them to another location such as the Pictures folder or even the desktop. You can then import them into iPhoto.
If you have already put files/folders in the iPhoto Library folder in the Finder then you will also find out that if you try to import them into iPhoto you will get an error message. No worry, just drag them to the desktop and import from there.
--All images that you import are shown in the library view. You can choose how you want to view, by rolls, by date, by rating, etc. When you put images in an Album, slideshow, book, etc, you are actually just putting pointers to those images in the library. You are not adding more images. If you delete an image from the Album it will still be in the library. If you delete an image from the library it is deleted from iPhoto's database and your hard drive (unless you have it backed up somewhere else)
--You have a folder of images on your hard drive and want to import them into iPhoto. Drag the folder of images into an open iPhoto Library window and the folder of photos will be copied into the library, resulting in a new roll with the name of the folder. You now have two copies of those photos, the ones in iPhoto's database and the ones on your desktop. You can keep the ones on your desktop that you just imported as backup or you can delete that folder.
-- you scan a picture/pictures and save it in a folder. You cannot scan directly into iPhoto or the iPhoto Library folder in the Finder.
You want all your photos in iPhoto so you import them into iPhoto.
Now you have two copies of that picture/pictures, so you can delete the originals that were in the scanned folder and keep the one/ones that were imported into iPhoto.
-- You download pictures from your camera into iPhoto.
There is now one copy of each of the pictures. (DO NOT HAVE IPHOTO DELETE THE IMAGES FROM YOUR CAMERA! DELETE THEM MANUALLY WITH THE CAMERA-if something goes wrong with the import and they are never imported and then they are deleted from the camera you might end up losing those images)
You want to change something about a picture you imported, such as
cropping it or changing the size, or changing the orientation.
Once you do that to a picture, you now have two copies of the picture
in iPhoto, the original and the edited one. The edited one will be in the library organize view. The original is packed away in an Original folder in your iPhoto Library folder under the date of the roll. You can always revert to the original by control clicking on the photo and choose "revert to orginal" You will not have this choice if you used iPhoto Diet to get rid of the Originals.
(a quick note on cropping within iPhoto...when you are in edit mode, you automatically will be in the crop mode with cross hairs to highlight the crop area. To finish cropping you must click the crop button and then go back to library view and your cropped picture will be there.
3.You want to use Photoshop or another graphic program to edit a picture in your iPhoto library.
You can open up prefs for iPhoto and choose "when double clicking on
photo ..do" choose "other" and select Photoshop. Now you can edit all
pictures in your iPhoto library in PhotoShop by double clicking. If you save the photo with the same name and as a flattened file it will be saved right into iPhoto and you will see the changes. If you don't want to save it into iPhoto then do a "save as" and save to the desktop. You will then have the original photo still in iPhoto and your new edited photo on the desktop.
Or, with iPhoto open, you can drag a picture from the library window
to your desktop (you see a + sign on the pic you are dragging). You now
have two of the same picture, one in the iPhoto library and one on your desktop. You can open up the one on your desktop in any graphic program and work on it. The one in iPhoto stays the same. You can also share/export the picture/pictures to your desktop or folder to work on them or do batch processing, etc. You will still have the originals in your iPhoto Library.
Or, you can open up the ~/Pictures/iPhoto Library/folders and option drag any
picture out of the folder to your desktop. Notice that you will see a plus sign while dragging the photo. This is copying the file to your desktop
I would advise anyone not to do this as they might forget to use the option key and drag the photo out. Next time you open iPhoto the photo will be missing.
Two Apple kbs for you to read
Don't tamper with files in the iPhoto library folder
    About the iPhoto Library folder
Don't forget that in Library view you can Control click on any picture and get a contextual menu with many options. One is to revert to original.
Now to get to your next problem...do a "get info" on your iPhoto Library folder.
Get info on the iPhoto Library folder
Make sure the owner is you and you have read/write" permission. If not, click the lock to unlock and change to you as the owner with Read/write. Click the button at the bottom.

Get back with results or any more info.

  • Aperture 3.1 edits don't show up in iMovie '11

I am new to Aperture. I am creating a movie with still shots in iMovie. In the photo browser I can select a photo and then click "Open in Aperture". I've done this and edited my photo. But the edits do not show up in iMovie -- even after closing and reopening both programs. Why is iMovie still using the older version of the photo? The weird thing is that some of my edited photos now show the edited version in the iMovie thumbnail browser, but when I drag the photo into the project it still shows the old version. HELP! Project due SOON!

I am having this problem as well. Granted, I am a new user for both Aperture (3.1) and iMovie (11).
I have regenerated all the previews in the Aperture album I am using for my iMovie slideshow, I have quit Aperture and iMovie, and relaunched iMovie, and still find that photos I drag in from the Media Browser don't show my most recent edits. I have also found that the recently edited previews come in "soft" even though my Aperture prefs are set to "Don't Limit" for Photo Preview, and "12" for Photo Preview Quality (and I regenerated the previews after I edited my preferences).
What is missing from my workflow? I have Aperture set to "Always" share previews with iLife and iWork.
    Thanks for any thoughts.

  • How to show thumbnail images in finder?

Windows can do this, so I'm sure Mac must be able to ....
When I am viewing a list of jpegs in the finder, how can I see thumbnail versions of the images? Currently, all that's displayed is the jpeg icon.
    Thanks.

If you have files that don't show a thumbnail icon, it may be that whatever program created the files didn't create a thumbnail image.
You can add the preview image quite easily using a program like
    QuickImage (http://www.versiontracker.com/dyn/moreinfo/macosx/19253)
