Layers of interactions

I'm creating a training program and I have situation where I have a slide with 3 buttons. Clicking on a button will open a screen with specific information. On this new screen is an image that I want learners to click on to see additional information. Essentially I'm talking about 3 layers of information on one slide. I'm storyboarding this in Powerpoint and I don't think I'll be doing the development work myself. I don't know who the developer will be so I don't have someone local that I can ask. Is what I'm describing possible in Captivate? I think we'll be using Captivate version 6.5 or 7. Thank you in advance for any help or advice.

6.5 never existed as a version. Hope you do not try to achieve your goal
using imported ppt-slides because that will not works. Start from scratch
in CP, then is is not that hard with variables and advanced actions. Have
lot of examples on blog.

  • Button hierarchy on layers in interactive PDFs

    Hi,
    we recognized a flaw in the display of interactive buttons within interactive PDFs:
    We created a document with several buttons, that are mentioned to display other hidden buttons, when clicked. The problem is that even when the layer of the button, that are invisible when loading the page and are visible when clicking on the other button, is above the layer of the button to click on, the other button is displayed in front of the button that should appear in front of it. Most buttons appear on top of all layers when clicked once. Is there a way to avoid this?
    Thanks a lot for any suggestions.
    Regards,
    Philipp

    The way the PDF specification was written, interactive elements always appear above all other content. It has nothing to do with what you're doing in InDesign. You'll just have to work around that fact in your design.

  • Can layers be used to further edit a photo in Elements after editing in LR? [was:Tacoma Grandma]

    Is there a way to use layers to further edit a photo in Elements after editing in Lightroom?

    The "Edit In" option of Lightroom is the usual way. This creates a new image that PS / Elements can work with. The starting image and the new image (showing the results of your editing, once those are saved) both then appear in Lightroom.
    Exporting does not pair up LR and Elements (or other image editing program) in quite the same easy and transparent way.
    As to the Layers query: probably the most usual format chosen for external editing is TIFF, but PSD is also used. Both preserve any layers intact when saved (unlike JPG) allowing returning to a layered file for further editing in the future. These editing files include a further fullsize preview, if layered (this is unnecessary for a flattened file, in which case LR can just read that Background layer directly).
    The preview is a losslessly compressed full colour bitmap, updated at each time of saving, representing the then-current combined appearance of the "layer stack" as seen within Elements.
    Lightroom cannot understand about whatever pixel and adjustment layers, layer interactions and effects etc the file may contain -  but it doesn't need to, because it can look at the "compatibility" preview instead.

  • How do I animate graphics for ipad, a windows user who might jump ship

    Please read this recent post that I put up on the Adobe Flash forums site; only got one reply which wasn't much use to me, maybe you guys can help.
    No I'm not on here to moan about Mac not supporting Flash (and yes I know that in theory Apple have done a U turn and are prepared to support it, albeit through gritted teeth).  I have a problem though, I have been using Adobe since, well forever really, and am Windows based, plus I've always managed to keep both Mac and Windows users happy as I am largely video and After Effects based.  I've dabbled with Flash and Director and some HTML coding so I am not completely naive when it comes to interactive presentations.  This time I am a bit stumped though, I have an international client and they have decided as a company to invest in ipads for all their staff, so I am now being asked about interactive presentations including graphics and video content.  Well if any other client had asked this of me I would have brushed up on my Flash and probably developed a straight forward presentation (nothing too fancy is required, no back end data base stuff etc, just a few animated buttons, splash screens and video).  It is probably not agood idea coming onto an Adobe forum and asking what other program I can use for similar projects on the Mac, but that is my starting point.  I know about Keynote, which I perceive a bit like Powerpoint (Micky Mouse comes to mind, I'm asking for trouble saying that I guess), so what exactly is the programe that is used on Macs to do similar tasks as Flash, does it exist?  Before I decide to persist with Flash (and I guess that I am going to be nudged in that direction as I am on an Adobe forum) I'd like to know what is its rival on Mac.  I have done a bit of research and am looking at Xcode4, Cocoa and it all seems a bit confusing and I certainly don't want to learn, C, C++ or one of it's derivatives, plus ipads use IOS a rather pared down version of the full Mac OS.  If I were a Mac graphic designer and I wanted to design an interactive presentation for the ipad (or Mac for that matter) what professional program would I be using?  There you go a very simple question from a very long winded explanation of my problem.
    Here is the reply I got form one of the other forum users:-
    As far as I know, Jobs was putting all his eggs into HTML5, so you probably want to see how he and the rest of the team are coming along with that spec (estimates are between 3 to 10 years for a final spec release).  I believe you'll need to learn a number of other things (css, javascript, jQuery, ajax, etc) to make it all work together to mimic what it can of a Flash version.
    As far as video goes... http://www.informationweek.com/news/hardware/desktop/225701855?subSect ion=News
    (Yeah, you're less likely to get positive/useful feedback in a Flash forum... try a Mac forum, better yet, an iPad forum)
    Any help much appreciated

    Hi Mitchell,
    I'll try to help you answering few questions. I'll be short now because dinner is almost ready.
    My background and experience is web/print designer, but I have been researching and studying iPad since the original is out (I got iPad and iPad 2). I work in Windows environment, I actually embrace the iPad situation.
    Ok, basically you want to have "interactive presentations including graphics and video content" for client?
    The best answer for that at the moment is: HTML5, jQuery/JavaScript, and CSS. I am sure with those 3 can get something like this:
    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Wc3fghSJvBM
    That's actually an app. Obviously native App has some advantages over WebApp. Take a look at how Google tackle the iPad with its webapp. Lots of great example. Google uses a lot of jQuery in a smart way.
    Maybe soon Adobe products will adapt and utilize more HTML5 for iPad. Maybe Flash would eventually go to iPad, who knows.
    I actually manage to live "without Flash" and be more efficient with presentation. Less bling and splashy interaction, but still manage to give a "new" experience. I would probably ask the client to wait a bit. Study the available interactive magazines (Wired, GQ, Victoria Secret etc) and websites that utilize only HTML5, jQuery, and CSS to get that "Flash" feel.
    There are really awesome Flash websites over the last few years, before iPad came along. We have gone almost "too much" with what Flash can do in term of giving interactive and layers and layers of interactive eye candies UI. Maybe it's time to be more efficient. Save the pixels for what really more important.
    Anyhow, try a simple hack: use and experiment Splashtop app or similar app that allow mirroring of PC/Mac into the iPad. This way, you could have Flash on your iPad, as long there is a connected PC/Mac via Wi-Fi.
    Try also presentation viewer for iPad, from Prezi.
    Remember one thing: It does not have to be the iPad. We know iPad is cool, but if other tables (Android tablets) can actually view Flash and the experience is fine, then go for it. My opinion: Flash is not yet for multi-touch experience.
    Tablet revolution is still really young, so, it's time to experiment.

  • PS - Distilling problems

    When making a PS file in InDesign and Distilling it later I run into a problem: although the document is 190.5 cm x 190.5 cm, the final Distilled PDF is about an A4 big. I get the message that violations have been found in the document, but I don't know what goes wrong. It used to work just fine with the same settings and now it doesn't...
    The violation I get is this:
    [Violation] Neither TrimBox nor ArtBox was found on the following pages:
    Can anybody help me please?

    It's been a long time since I printed anything to postscript (no need to do that any longer if you have Acrobat installed -- print to the Adobe PDF virtual printer, or use Export to PDF instead and keep your live transparency and layers and interactive elements and...), but I seem to remember you need to set up a custom page size and select it when you print something odd like this.

  • App Layer: Capture Cleanup

    Current situation:
    A recored App Layer cannot be managed in any way. Any recorded data, including garbage, will be part of an App Layer.
    Feature request:
    Have the possibility to cleanup the App Layers by interacting with the actual captured data.
    Something like a ThinApp Capture folder where we can remove unneded data like MSI installer backup files, other temporary data, etc.

  • Refreshing a photo in iMovie after editing it.

    I built an image sequence in iMovie, but would like to go back and fix some flaws in some of the photo's. I right-click on an image, select "Reveal in Finder", and then fix and re-save the image over the original with Photoshop. The copies in iPhoto are changed (iPhoto is where I dragged the images from into iMovie originally), but how do I get the photo's in iMovie to refresh and reflect the changes without manually deleting and replacing them?

  • How can I lock an External Style Sheet

    I'm an experienced programmer, but a newbie with DW. I would
    like to develop a handful of global style sheets to control the
    look and feel of my site. However, it appears that if anybody
    (including myself) edits a layer which is based on a global style
    or ID (e.g. by dragging a border, intentionally or not) that they
    can easily affect all pages attached to that one CSS. Is there any
    simple way to prevent this from happening?

    layers
    Text in layers is a big problem - you know? When the text is
    resized in the
    browser (and it will be), it will cause the layers to grow
    taller. Because
    layers cannot interact with other page elements, when they
    grow taller, they
    overlap one another, and other page content. You wind up with
    a big mess.

    Heck - just make the content of each of those regions (we
    still worry about
    them being layers) come from server-side includes, or better
    yet, from a
    database. That way, you are totally safe.

  • Converting Simple Indesign AppleScript to Javascript

    Hi,
    I have been using as imple Indesign AppleScript but need to convert it to javascript and have no prior experience.  I've been reading the Adobe pdf about scripting and it is great as it shows the differences between the 3 (as, js, vb) but I'm still having trouble figuring out how this would conver.  Would anyone be able to show me the converted result?
    AppleScript:
    tell application "Adobe InDesign CS5.5"
         tell every document
              set visible of layer "Interactive - Web" to true
              set visible of layer "Interactive - Print" to false
         end tell
    end tell
    Javascript:
    var myDocuments = app.documents.everyItem(); // something like this?
    It hides/shows the visibility of 2 specific layers for all opened documents.  I pretty much need to hide/show 2 specific layers ina  book and this should/can accomplish that.
    Thanks for any help!

    This should work:
    var documentsArray = app.documents.everyItem().getElements();
    for (var i = 0; i < documentsArray.length; i++) {
              var document = documentsArray[i];
              var layers = document.layers;
              layers.itemByName("Interactive - Web").visible = true;
              layers.itemByName("Interactive - Print").visible = false;
    Also, it might be possible to do this without using "getElements" which "resolves the object specifier", eliminating the need for the "for" loop. Something like this:
    app.documents.everyItem().layers.itemByName("Interactive - Web").visible = true;
    app.documents.everyItem().layers.itemByName("Interactive - Print").visible = false;

  • Photoshop 3d obj interacting strangely with other layers

    After Effects and Photoshop CS5.
    I have an imported photoshop 3d object which on its own behaves as it should.
    But, when I place it in front of other layers (2d in 3d space) I can see the other layers through the photoshop 3d layer. They are all behaving in space as they should, apart from the fact that the photoshop layer seems to be made of glass (which it isn't).
    I can't for the life of me work out what I am doing wrong.
    Apart from this, I can't get shadows to work in this comp, where in another comp which is exactly the same apart from the imported PS 3d object, they are working fine. (If I hide the PS 3d object, shadows and lighting work fine with the rest of the objects)
    Or is all of this impossible because I'm using a PS 3d object?
    I would be grateful for any ideas, because I am totally stumped.

    Well, you completely misunderstand how this works, I'm afraid. PS Live 3D is merely an intra-layer effect and does not in any way interact with AE's own 3D beyond responding to the camera. That's no differtent than using 3D-ish effects like Trapcode Particular - the effect may look 3D, but is applied to a 2D layer. And that also explains all your otehr issues - any form of 2D layer inbetween 3D layers breaks 3D rendering order. You need to re-structure your project by splicing the stuff to separate comps and cross-linking the cameras to get the illusion.

  • Does Safari support a interactive PDF with hidden layers? I'm on version  5.0.3 and the interactive PDF displays just fine, but our web development team tells me all the layers display when they view the same PDF on Safari.

    Does Safari support interactive PDFs with layers? Through the use of hidden layers and buttons we built in interactivity that allows the viewers to click on buttons to display different content. When I view the PDF in Safari 5.0.3 on my Mac OS 10.5.8 the PDF displays fine and the interactivity works. However our web design firm tell me the PDF displays all the hidden layers when they view it in Safari. Who's right?

    Try updating your Safari to the latest version, 5.0.5.
    Also check whether the rest of your system is up to date by going to Software Update in the Apple menu.

  • Interactive pdf using Indesign CS5.5 problem with layering

    Hi all
    I have designed an interactive pdf - not for the web. I have a problem layering out a page. On the page there are 6 buttons. Each button when pressed will bring forward a box containing content/information. When I designed the page using indesign cs5.5 I made sure the largest box of information was at the top of the layer. I thought this would be the cleanest way to present the page. By having the largest content box (each of the six content boxes are different sizes) at the top it would cover the other boxes. When I exported the file out the smallest box was at the top, then the secondest etc. It looks pretty messy.
    Is there a way to ensure that the lagest content box is at the top when it exported to pdf????
    Regards

    Have patience!
    Have you tried putting that largest box on it's own layer at the top?  I don't know much about buttons etc though, if you wait someone will come on here that does.  A lot of contributors are in different time zones though.....

  • Use and possibilities of inCopy and inDesign CC in interactive DPS layers

    Hi,
    We like to give our editors access via inCopy in our inDesign DPS files.
    As I understand; text, like images is displayed in the Links panel.
    Is it already possible to have inCopy CC assigned text in the interactive DPS layers?
    All help welcome!

    I was able to use InCopy with a text frame that was incorporated into a scrolling frame overlay, but it seemed a bit "wonky" with formatting. (Formatting was lost between InCopy edit and InDesign.) My guess is that it should work in an MSO as well, but I didn't have time to test that theory.
    You can download a 30-trial of InCopy, if you want to run your own tests.

  • Interactive layers over an interactive flash file

    I've always been frustrated at the fact that dynamic text and
    images pulled into flash have not been able to be spidered by the
    search engines.
    So, with a client site I'm developing, I'd like to try
    something different. I'm wanting to create a flash file with
    buttons that when clicked, open up the flash and create a blank
    area in the design where a div layer can be placed on top of the
    flash, positioned in such a way that it looks like it is part of
    the flash itself. When you then click on a seperate button on the
    flash, the div layer hides itself, and another div layer appears
    according to the relevant section of the flash you have chosen.
    I might not be explaining myself very well, but for anyone
    following what I'm sayinig, has this been done before and does
    anyone know how?
    Cheers,
    Guy Blomberg

    Well the easiest way is to publish it to a swf and then perhaps load all of those dynamically.
    The only other way I know is to select all the frames, copy frames, insert a new movieclip and then paste frames. This usually results in centering everything and you might not like that.
    If you want to avoid that you should include a background layer the size of your stage. And then you can edit multiple frames, stretch the range makers to cover the entire thing, select all, and adjust the upper right corner to where you want it. (Assuming that you don't have things off stage.
    Of course the best thing to do would have been to just made them all as movie clips from the beginning. Either in one FLA or in individual FLAs. So chalk it up to live and learn.

    Rollovers work until you have a rollover go over one of the hotspots, then it renders the hotspot useless unless you refresh page.
