Layers Pallette Question

I use PSE9 for digital scrapbooking.  Lately, when I have several pictures and elements on the page, I have to click on the Layers Pallette to select an item to move.  If I don't click on another item, the item I have just selected will move when I move my mouse.  I used to be able to click on an element or picture on the page and move it.

With the Move Tool selected you probably don't have Auto-Select checked in the tool options bar.

  • Using 2 monitors. I can't get my Layers Pallet to move to the 2nd monitor

I'm using 2 monitors. I can't get my Layers Pallet to move to the 2nd monitor screen. It is simply locked to the right side of my 1st monitor. A solution would be great. Sorry if it's a noob question.
    Thanks for your time.

No problem. We've all had newbie questions at one time or another.
However, I am going to have to put on my clairvoyant hat and guess you are running Photoshop 10.0.1 (CS3). :/
In CS3, do NOT attempt to move the palette well, i.e. the dark gray zone above the palettes. That you cannot move.
Instead, grab each palette individually by the light gray bar just at the top of each palette.

  • LAYERS quick question

This is a dumb question, but I'll like the pros to clarify.
So I used to be able to create new floating layers by simply
selecting the "Draw Layer" button from the "Layout" tab. After
dragging and creating a new layer, a new layer icon would come up
on my "Layers" pallette. Some updates after, an now when I try to
draw a layer, it just inserts an empty "<div" on my code, no
more floating layer, and no layer shows up on my "Layers" pallette.
I'm in Dreamweaver 8 by the way. Is there a setting somewhere I
    need to change?? thanks.

    need to change??
No, but it's clear that you are not inserting a "layer" but
    rather a simple
<div> tag. To get a 'layer', you would have to use
    INSERT | Layout Objects
    > Layer (not DIV TAG). Remember, layers are absolutely
    positioned elements,
and they should NOT be used as a primary page layout tool.

  • How do you stack different photos in the editor layers pallet

How do you stack different photos in the editor layers pallet? I can get different photos in the editor, but I cannot figure out how to get different photos into the layers pallet at the same time.  Please help!!!!!

Just to clarify, you can never see the layers panel for more than one photo at a time. The suggestions you got will show all the photos, but because they are now combined as layers in one image.
If you want to see more photos in the editor at once, go to the preferences>general and turn on Allow Floating Documents, then go to Window>Images>Float all in windows, then Cascade or Tile.
But you will still only see the layers panel for the image that is active at the moment.

  • PS SC6 Jittery Cursor in Layers Pallet

I have all my pallets on my second display. In Photoshop CS6, when I open or close a layer group folder in the Layers pallet, the cursor becomes jittery and stuttered. If I move the mouse off the pallet, the mouse returns to normal, and mouse tracking is smooth. If I move the mouse back over the Layers pallet, it's fine, until I interact with a layer on that pallet. At which point, the jittery mouse action returns. Anyone else experiencing this? I know this wasn't an issue with CS5, but I also recently upgraded to Mountain Lion, so it's possible it's a Mountain Lion/PS6 quirk. Thanks.
    Mark

    Hi Curt,
Thanks for the reply. It's definitely not an interfence issue. Since, it only happens when I am interacting with the Layers pallet. The documents I'm working on have hundreds of layers, so maybe that's part of the issue? Anyone else having this?

  • How do I see the layers pallet and the photo bin in PSE 11?

How do I see the Layers Pallet in PSE 11? It is not showing up on the right side of my screen. I also cannot get to the Photo Bin at the bottom of the screen.

You must be in Expert Mode. Click the word Expert at the top of your screen, and then you will see the buttons to make them appear.

  • Annoying layers pallette problem

Hi. It seems that whenever I alt tab from photoshop my layers pallete minimizes, making me have re-open it every time I switch back to photoshop. Very annoying when reading tutorials or checking bridge/web. I'm sure it never used to do it but not sure what I could of possibly done to change it. Can't for the life of me figure out how to fix it.
    Any help?

  • Ho to resize the thumbnails in the layers pallet

The layers pallet is quite small even though I have maxed out the thumbnail button.  When viewing with a hires monitor the thumbnails
ae quite Small.   The only work around I have found is to reduce the resoultion of the monitor.  This defeats the whole reason for having
    a hires Monitor.

  • Is it possible to rearrage buttons in the layers pallet?

I would like to do this because I find it very akward to have everything in the top section of the layers pallet, while just a few buttons are way down on the bottom. I've been using SAI for years and would like to transition over to photoshop for painting.  Would it be possible to move all the buttons along the bottom row in the layer pallet to the top, just under everything else using scripting? If not, is it possible to create an alternate layer pallet using scripting or plugins?

    Yes, it is absolutely possible.
So long as each button on the layers panel is associated with its own keyboard shortcut, then this can be done easily.
With Autohotkey, you can create your own toolbars and place them anywhere on the Photoshop screen. Each button you create will have its own icon image (.bmp for example), and when clicked on, will send its keyboard shortcut to Photoshop.
    For example:
If you want to add a 'new layer' button to your new custom toolbar, you just create your own little .bmp image of new layer (whatever you want it to look like, maybe a red '+' sign), then program the button to send  'ctrl/shift/n' to photoshop, and it will add a new layer to Photoshop whenever you click this button. This allows you to ignore the default 'new layer' button that's on the bottom of the layer panel and instead use your own custom button. You can have this button appear anywhere on your photoshop screen; it allows you to drag it anywhere on the screen. You can add unlimited buttons wiht unlimited keyboard shortcuts to your custom toolbar and have it look anyway you wish - you design it.

  • My tool bar and Layers pallet are behind my free floating files how do I get them on top?

I have been a Photoshop CS user for about 13 years...I recently downladed CS5 to try it before I buy it. I've been a CS3 user for 3 or 4 years now. I love Photoshop but other than Photoshop I am not a very savvy computer user. So please bear with me as I try to explain my problem.
When I open PSCS5 it fills my computer screen completely  and looks like this: A thin 1/2 inc strip on teh left that holds my "tools", a wider 2 inch strip on the right that holds "Layers, Channels, Paths" and a 1 1/2 inch strip on the top, then a big work area in the middle.
I usually have 2- 12X12 300 dpi new files open AND 10-15 photos or scrapbook elements and papers open to work on at any one time.
In prior versions of CS the tool strip and layer pallets strips were ALWAYS on top so I could access them no matter how much was open on the screen. In CS5 I keep burying them and have to dig them out to use them. When I use "Float All in Window", which I need, using Tabs does not allow me to see everything I need to see to work on documents, how do I get the tools and layers on TOP only?
THANKS for listening...I hope you can help!
    Theresa

You probably need to undock the panels on the right and the toolbox by clicking and dragging on the top out into the workspace.
Then move them back to the sides of the workspace without docking them (the blue line means they are going to dock)

  • Bug while making a PDF plus layers pallete bug

in CS6 13.0.4 x 64, the PDF process is iffy for me. Sometimes it's fine. But other times, an incomplete image results. Is this related to the overall type bugginess that Adobe recommends we fix (which I've not yet done)...? (http://helpx.adobe.com/photoshop/kb/troubleshoot-fonts-photoshop-cs5.html)
I'm lazy, but also, I don't have a lot of confidence I'll do it correctly, and I have a myriad of deadlines every week.
While I've your eye, here's another question relating to the layers palette:
Layers sometimes stick to my curser and I can't unstick them until I go back to the palette and try to place them back where they orignally were. (I'll be really embarrassed if this is a new feature of CS6 that I've not figured out yet...)
Thank you in advance for help on these two items.

Unlikely that the PDF issues relate to fonts per se. More like the PDF Flattener doing something wrong or not doing anything to retain appearance based on your PDF export settings. Pixel data in PDFs only gets tiled, if a visual construct you use requires it to be flattened and apparently that goes for some reason wrong. and your "sticky" layers probably point to graphics or input device issues on your system, so check your graphics and tablet driver and such.

  • Layers basic question

    1. is there any way to cycle through layers, keyboard? When 1
layer is on top of another it's sometimes impossible to grab the
    under ones.
    2. When a flash swf is in a layer it is greyed out and you
cannot see or edit what is under it.
How can you hide it or see threw it?
    3.

You probably would be better off not using so many layers -
    why are you?
Anyhow, you can always use the Layers panel to select exactly
    the one you
    want by name/id.

What do you mean "under it"? Just hide the layer, or use the
    Layers panel
    again.

    Is there a #3?

  • Layers Panel question: icon not updating

A Levels Adj. Layer sits above a regular Layer. When I make a change with Levels, the image updates normally, but the icon of the image in the Layers Panel does not change--it always reflects its original appearance.
I believe that the icon updated in CS5. Am I dreaming? Is there a new setting?
    Thanks,
    Sonny

I don't think you were dreaming. It's likely that you were remembering a thumbnail changing when you used an adjustment command instead of an adjustment layer. A command will change a layer therefore the thumbnail will correspondingly change.

  • Layers (general question)

I don't really use layers much, but I just noticed that if I'd used a layer for my master page items I wouldn't keep having to drag them to the front whenever I put a tint of color over the whole page. Is it common practice to always have the master page items on their own layer? Where else would layers be useful?
    Thanks, Phyllis

    Hi Phyllis,
Using layers is great for being able to isolate some objects, either to make selection easier (or for making it harder to select them accidentally) and for hiding content for making multiple versions of a file without having to reproduce everything, as well as for general organization.
One reason for using layers on a master page is to have master items show in front of other things on a live page. For any given layer, the master items are always behind any new items you place on the live page, so for example if you want a page number to show in front of a graphic, but don't want the graphic frame on the master page, you would add a new layer for the page number. In fact, if you plan on using transparency, it's probably a good idea to have a layer at the top of the stack for text to avoid outlining or rasterizing bits of type, and you probably want your master text on top, too.

Could someone tell me what/how in the world I can restore my Layers so that when I edit my tiff files they show up in right hand column?  I have looked EVERYWHERE -- gone to Preferences, etc. -- and I cannot seem to restore the Layers to play with.
