Layers panel always closed on startup

Good afternoon
I noticed my layers panel became closed everytime I start photoshop cs6. I tried to create new workspace with open panel but that's had no effect, panel is closed after the restart of Photoshop. Any help?

Just a small update. Workspace reset not solved the problem completely, everytime I open photoshop the layer panel shows wrong and that was very annoying. I noticed some problems with another software as well and I think the cause was the files permission issues in Windows 7. I changes the owner for Program Files folder and reset permissions for system and admin. It seems, now everything, Photoshop as well, works as it should.

  • Export to PDF from Autocad: Acrobat always opens PDF with 'layers panel and page' shown.

    Hello,
Whenever I export to PDF from Autocad, Adobe Acrobat opens the PDF with the 'Layers Panel and Page' shown.
Each time I have to manually go to 'Properties' and select 'Page only', close 'Properties' and close the PDF and select to save the changes, in order to show the just the page.
Is there a way to make PDFs always export to 'Page only' automatically as default?
    Thanks!

Thakns Peter, I had seen this thread, but it doesn't really address my issue. I've exported individual chapters from the book file, all with success, so I know there isn't a file corruption issue.  The problem seems to do more with memory allocation/usage.
I have tried: quitting and then immediately exporting the file, and even rebooting and then relanuching and exporting.  Both of these allow me to get a few pages farther along, but still not through the entire book.
I remember back in the day there used to be a setting for how much RAM/dis c space was allocated to a certain applicatino (I knowm it was a long time ago).  I didn't know if there might be something like this hidden somewhere

  • Layers Panel Does not Show Layers

Using Illustrator CS6 on Mac OS Yosemite.  In the layers panel, it only says the number of layers I have (e.g. "2 Layers"), but will not show me the layers.  I have tried everything I can in the Panel Options and it will not show any of these columns: A. Visibility column B. Edit column C. Target column D. Selection column
How do I get the layers to show?

    Moonbelle,
I assumed you had just upgraded the OS and thought the (three step) reinstallation was missing. Otherwise, I should have suggested the full list of things to try in case of such strangenesses, see below.
As you can see, the list starts with some easy ones, including the one you used. Sometimes, a corruption may arise, seemingly out of nothing, and in the luckiest cases it is temporary enough to cure easily.
You may remember the list if something similar happens again.
The following is a general list of things you may try when the issue is not in a specific file (you may have tried/done some of them already); 1) and 2) are the easy ones for temporary strangenesses, and 3) and 4) are specifically aimed at possibly corrupt preferences); 5) is a list in itself, and 6) is the last resort.
If possible/applicable, you should save current artwork first, of course.
    1) Close down Illy and open again;
    2) Restart the computer (you may do that up to at least 5 times);
    3) Close down Illy and press Ctrl+Alt+Shift/Cmd+Option+Shift during startup (easy but irreversible);
    4) Move the folder (follow the link with that name) with Illy closed (more tedious but also more thorough and reversible);
    5) Look through and try out the relevant among the Other options (follow the link with that name, Item 7) is a list of usual suspects among other applications that may disturb and confuse Illy, Item 15) applies to CC, CS6, and maybe CS5);
    Even more seriously, you may:
    6) Uninstall, run the Cleaner Tool (if you have CS3/CS4/CS5/CS6/CC), and reinstall.

  • Layers panel only shows the number of layers

    Hi guys,
Apologies if this is a stupid question, but it's been bugging me for the past hour.
Since the last update my layers panel looks like this:
How do I make it show the actual layers list? I've tried resetting the workspace but nothing seems to work
    Thank you
Edit: If it helps, I'm using Illustrator 2014.1.0 on OS X Yosemite 10.10

    David,
There are some strangenesses with Yosemite reported, but so far no definite pattern.
Anyroad, your issue has been reported in earlier OS versions too, so maybe it is worth going down the list.

  • Layers Panel question: icon not updating

A Levels Adj. Layer sits above a regular Layer. When I make a change with Levels, the image updates normally, but the icon of the image in the Layers Panel does not change--it always reflects its original appearance.
I believe that the icon updated in CS5. Am I dreaming? Is there a new setting?
    Thanks,
    Sonny

I don't think you were dreaming. It's likely that you were remembering a thumbnail changing when you used an adjustment command instead of an adjustment layer. A command will change a layer therefore the thumbnail will correspondingly change.

  • ANSWERED-Layers don't show up in the layers panel - Photoshop CC

AH-HA! There's a new button to turn on and off layers - I discovered it quite by accident. I will leave the post in case others need to "find" that button. It's at the top of the layers panel to turn layer filtering on/off.
Photoshop CC, Windows 7 Home Premium
I added a new layer - it doesn't show up in the layers panel.
I added a shape - it doesn't show up in the layers panel.
I converted a layer into a smart object. - It doesn't show up in the layers panel.
THEREFORE - I CAN'T SELECT ANY OF THEM!
The document I am working on was created in CS6. It has a frame - WHERE IS THAT LAYER?
    Thank you for any help/suggestions.

    That won't work either !
I made a new page from that tmpl and saved it. Closed DW ... opened it ... but nothing.
Also deleted the cachefile while DW was closed.
    Strange !?

  • Folders in Files panel always expanded

I have another thread that hasn't been answered (http://forums.adobe.com/thread/934856), so I'm trying alternate wording.
In the Files Panel there are several folders that are always expanded when I initially open Dreamweaver.
I can collapse the folders, but as soon as I expand another folder, the original folders auto-expand themselves. It's very annoying.
I noticed that Illustrator's Layers Panel exhibits similar behavior. They must have been coded in a similar way.
Anyone know how to stop this behavior?

I'm not the OP but I did figure out a fix for me. Not sure if it will fix the problem for others but here is what I did.
First let me add here that I did find that when I upgraded to the new Creative Cloud version of DW and it imported my 12.0 site settings, the problem followed those settings into the 13.0 version.
Im on a Mac so these instructions would need to be taylored to the PC in regards to the location of the file referenced. And I am not sure if it's even the same file on the PC. So I can only speak for my experience on the Mac.
I've fixed my 12.0 version and my 13.0 version this way.
It was a corrupted "Site Prefs" file. I tried to fix it, but the entries where so mixed up that there was no way that was going to work. So I deleted the "Site Prefs" file and let DW recreate it.
In order to recreate the Site Prefs file, it meant loosing all of my site settings.
    To make things less painful...
Open DW and go to Manage Sites. Select all sites and do an export of all .ste files, with passwords and user names, into a temperary folder and close DW.
Now find file folder called "12.0" or 13.0" in the Library/Application Support/Adobe/Common/12.0 (13.0 for the cloud version)/Sites/ and rename it to "12.0_old" or whatever. (Note: you may need to Option-click the Go Menu in the Finder in order to get the Library choice to appear).
Reopen DW and it will recreate a new blank "Site Prefs" file. Go to "Manage Sites..." and click on "Import Site". Select all of the .ste files and import them.
DW will update the site's cache the first time you open each site and it might also ask you to give permission to access the password stored in you keychain. Choose "Always Allow" for each one.
That's it. Now my corrupted folder doesn't pop open every time I click on another folder.
    Mac OS 10.7.5
    DW CS6 (12.0 build 5861) &/or DW CC (13.0 build 6391)
As I said, this worked great for me. But use these steps at your own discretion.

  • Layers are always open

    hello,
I did a search on this forum without success
    I'm in illustrator CS2 Vista
why when opening illustrator some layers are always open and not others?
what to do to remain closed?

Maybe for some it's not a problem really? It's not something that I've found annoying.
I think (although I'm not sure) that layers that contain sub-layers open in order that the sub-layers can be seen. Layers that do not contain sub-layers remain closed. Therefore the only way to keep the layers closed when opening a file is....you've guessed it....don't make sub-layers.

  • Layer name / Layers Panel tool icons disappear

The 'Template' checkbox gets activated in Layer Options dialog box, and the box gets closed, then, the Layer name and several icons at the bottom of the Layer Panel disappear.
The Layer is still there without a name, and rolling over the icons on the Layers Panel I can see the Tool Icons.
Illustrator Prefs were trashed/restored using the Opt-Shift-Command restart shortcut.
    Does anybody have any ideas?

    Suitcase Fusion 4 ... 10.0.5 (515)
    Wacom Tablet Intuos 4... v6.3.5-3

This happened to me out of the blue and after many hair pulling days, I figured out that if you set one of your layers to "not print" (by un-checking the print box in layer options) all of the text and icons disappear off every layer below that non-printing layer. So find the non-printing layer, click on it, go to the drop down menu at the top right of the layers palette, choose Options for layer, and check the "print" box. All of your layers should now look normal.
I also read something about making sure the Verdana Italic font was active in your system fonts which mine was so that suggestion didn't help me. Good luck.

  • Layers Panel

When I open Photoshop Elements 10 my layers panel does not seem to exist. I have no idea why this is and seem to have tried everything but am in need of some serious help now as this problem still baffels me. Am I not doing something obvious and silly or is there a real issue?
    Please help   x
    Thank You

The editor saved prefs often get corrupted. This is because PSE saves your settings each time you close the application. Problems can sometimes occur if you don’t let the program close properly or if you launch another application too quickly whilst closing down Elements. You may need to rebuild the editor preferences to resolve any conflicts. To begin, close Elements.
Hold down the Ctrl+Shift+Alt keys and simultaneously click on the Edit button on the welcome screen. After a few seconds release the three keys and look behind the welcome screen by closing it. Alternatively hold down the three keys whilst  clicking on the desktop icon for the Editor or PhotoshopElementsEditor.exe in the Programs folder. Keep holding down all three keys for a few seconds; then release. You should get the settings option.
When you see a pop up box with the words: Delete Adobe Photoshop Elements Settings File?
    Click on Yes
Then wait whilst Elements rebuilds the preferences.

  • Settings for layers panel?

Is there a setting for the layers panel where you can set the maximum # layers or minimum that one can display on the layers panel. For some odd reason i can only set up 3 layers on the layers panel. Can you set up 8 or more layers(that become visible) on layers display. Thanks for your help from a computer stupie?  My lasso tool seems to be working normally now. etc.

You can add lot of layers to your layers panel. It can be extended to view more layers at a time, but, there is always a scroll bar to view the list and select the desired layer from the panel.
you can drag the layers panel by holding from the layers Tab and pull out as a floating panel and then extend to the desired length.

  • Deleted Layers Panel?

Hi - I accidentally clicked the X in the layers panel and I don't know how to bring it back - I tried undo and nothing happened - Thanks!

    You’re welcome.
Edit > Undo does not affect display matters (like zooming, opening and closing Panels, …) – it may seem confusing now but getting used to it should not take too long.

  • Layers panel thumbnails have light blue overlay??????

    Hi,
All of a sudden all of the thumbnails in my layers panel have got a light blue overlay see below.
Must be something I have done but I can't figure out what!
    HELP !

Did you make any changes in Edit - Preferences - Transparency & Gamut recently?
There are also color choices for various UI elements in Interface; Cursors; Guides, Grid & Slices; and 3D preferences.  Not sure if these could apply in your case, but if you have changed anything there perhaps it's affecting your layer preview.
A complete preferences reset to defaults can be instigated by pressing and holding Control - Shift - Alt immediately after starting Photoshop from its shortcut or menu entry.  If you do it quickly enough it will prompt you.  Keep in mind this will lose all your settings and customizations, and you may want to exhaust other possibilities before going down this route.
Also, it's always a good idea to check to see if your display driver needs updating, from the web site of the maker of your video card.

Photos from cameras or scans have only one layer (the 'background' layer).
You can start with that 'background' layer and duplicate it or add other layers in the editing process. For instance you can make a selection of a subject and put it on another layer; a common use is to desaturate the 'background' and to keep the color in the selected subject in your newly created layer.

  • Reference to control on main front panel fails when subvi front panel is closed?

    Hi All,
I'm experiencing an odd bug. In my code, I use a subvi to control a piece of hardware. This subvi has controls for all of the functions of my hardware.
I'm changing the value of one of these controls from my main front panel by running a reference to a knob on my main front panel into the subvi, grabbing the value of the knob with a property node, and then updating the value of the subvi control using a signaling property node.
This works fine when my subvi front panel is open but fails to work at all when the subvi front panel is closed.
I'm new to labview , so any help is appreciated.
    Thanks,
    Arpan
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

    What is your LabVIEW version?
Front panels that are not shown are typically not updated and might not even be loaded into memory.
The presence of certain code elements (e.g. property nodes) often forces the front panel to be in memory even if it is not shown, but I haven't studied it in a long time so there might be subtleties. Maybe somebody from NI can give more details.
If it does not work unles the FP is open, open the front panel minimized to avoid distraction.
Can you attach some code? Maybe there are better ways to do all this anyway.
