Layers panel falls of screen - unable to grab to shrink

Can anyone help? using CS3 illustrator - my layers panel is too long for the screen - i am only able to shrink to the title bar or grab the sides to reduce the width of the panel. i cannot reduce the height of the panel as the bottom falls off the screen, even if i move it up as far as it will go.
I need to get to the bottom of this layers panel - any ideas on how to shrink it if you cant actually get to it?!?

You may:
1. Close Illy;
2. Open the aiprefs file with Notepad or something similar, not Worst; it should be in the Adobe Illustrator CS3 Settings folder, search for hidden files and folders;
3. In the aiprefs file Ctrl+F Find AdobeLayerPalette;
4. Change the size to something smaller and save the changes;
5. Open Illy and reset the size.
Or you may increase the screen resolution, reset the Layers Palette size and decrease the resolution, size possibly destroying your Desktop structure in the process.

I am unable to add a pattern via the layers panel

Help please! All of the sudden the "add/fill a pattern" via the layers panel on the right hand side is no longer available to me... that option is grayed out and won't let me select. I can still "fill" a pattern from the top menu's pull down menu, but that does not let me change scale, etc.
this is a vital tool to me, and I have no idea why it just stopped working.

Glad that your issue resolved itself. But, it sounds like your program is Photoshop Elements and not Premiere Elements. Some how your thread got posted in the Premiere Elements Forum (video editing).
If the problem should reoccur, please post your thread in the Photoshop Elements Forum.

Layer(s) not showing up on top of background, only in layers panel...

Hello All, Any help here would be great....briefly, PSE worked just great before, I'm on my newer MacBook Air, well within system requirements for PSE. Maverick OS. Started working with PSE and when I tried to "stamp" a brush shape (whether default brushes or otherwise), the program does something it had never done before....SEE ATTACHED. I will create a new layer to use my brush, but when I try to "stamp" it onto background, the program then creates a layer mask where I can see the brush shape AND a new layer, however ALL that shows up on the background is the icon you can see in my screen grab I am attaching here. What is this icon? (The teeny one middle right of image, black square, outlined in red, with two red circles in the middle) I called Apple, we did a few things, they said it wasn't on there end. I reset my tools, I uninstalled, reinstalled, to no avail. Last night, I called Adobe, spent 48 minutes on the phone with a guy only to be told that he wasn't "trained" in how to fix this issue and his superior would call me back within an hour. Never got that phone call, so I'm hoping (praying, begging) someone out there will have an idea of WHAT this icon is, as well as how to fix this issue. Again, I've reset all tools, the "eye" icon on layers panel shows it should be visible, I've tried layers-->merge visible, I've uninstalled and reinstalled, and called adobe newbie who didn't know even what the icon meant. Any takers?!?! See below.....

Because the mask image is the same as the background, the leaves you are painting are essentially the the identical pixels to those underneath. Fill the top layer image with a solid colour and your leaves will show.
You can right-click the little red box to get to a settings dialog.

Illustrator CC Layers panel

Hi, I just updated my illustrator to CC and am unable to get into my layers panel. It shows up and shows how many layers there are but I can't figure out how to actually get in and edit the layers. I feel like this is probably a simple fix but I can't figure out whats wrong!! It's extremely frustrating not being able to work with layers so any advice would be greatly appreciated!!

Layers Panel , Photoshop Elements and Windows 7

Anybody got any ideas on how to open the layers panel in photo editor?. When either using "window/layer or F11 all I get is a blank page on the right of the picture, not like the one shown on page 331 on the downloaded manual. I have only recently purchased to program, so I am new to it.

First, you do have an image open when you do this? Assuming yes try using the 'More' button at the very bottom right of the Editor screen and select 'Custom Workspace'. That should bring up the customisable multi-tabbed view. If it does and you like it, keep it. Otherwise click 'More' again and select 'Basic Workspace'. Hopefully this will reset the any display problem you may have. If not use Edit> Preferences> General> Reset Preferences on Next Launch and restart PSE.

Folders in Layers Panel

I am trying to create folders in my layers panel so that when I export them over to Flash I can make those folders into movie clips while preserving the text files inside as text files.... Can anyone PLEASE tell me how to create folders in the layers panel? I have looked all over online and can't find any help on this anywhere.

I was watching a lynda.com training clip on Flash CS4. Paul Trani was the instructor and he was showing us how to bring in files to create a Flash Website. He told us to make folders in Photoshop Elements and then bring those folders with their layers over to Flash. That is why I was trying to find out how to do that because they even show a screen shot of pse 7 with folders over in the layers panel. Very confusing. If pse 7 doesn't allow you to do this, why would they show this being done over in lynda.com? Frustrating.

[OSX] Photoshop CC bug - can't change Shape Layer colour from layers panel

Hi there,
I have a persistent bug where after a certain amount of time (potentially after the iMac goes to sleep and reawakes?) that after creating a new Shape Layer I can no longer change it's colour from the layers panel. If I double-click it the colour palette appears and it seems to record the colour but the Shape Layer does not reflect this. If I go into the Shape Layer bar at the top of the screen I can still change the Fill and Stroke.
If I re-open the program it works again.

Had the same problem. Turns out I needed to use the Path Selection Tool and click the path right on the canvas, not in the layer panel. This re-enables the Live Shape properties.

Layers Panel hidden when using secondary monitor

The bottom of the Layers Panel is hidden when my secondary monitor is on. I opened Systems Preferences > Display and adjusted scanning slider but I still can't make the PS screen smaller. What else can I do?

What happens if you choose a different workspace (using the control at the upper-right of the Photoshop main window)?

Cannot uncheck Propagate Frame 1 in layers panel- greyed out

While trying to create a frame by frame animation, I am unable to uncheck the "Propagate Frame 1" setting in the layers panel, so every time I work on a frame it edits all the frames. I've tried resetting the tools but to no avail. Any help would be much appreciated!

It's due to custom profiles being sent via USB.
I did a full restore and everything and it wound up telling me "this iphone requires encrypted backups" eventually. So that got me angry wondering why this didn't work. Hopefully this time it works

Layers Panel

When I open Photoshop Elements 10 my layers panel does not seem to exist. I have no idea why this is and seem to have tried everything but am in need of some serious help now as this problem still baffels me. Am I not doing something obvious and silly or is there a real issue?

The editor saved prefs often get corrupted. This is because PSE saves your settings each time you close the application. Problems can sometimes occur if you don’t let the program close properly or if you launch another application too quickly whilst closing down Elements. You may need to rebuild the editor preferences to resolve any conflicts. To begin, close Elements.
Hold down the Ctrl+Shift+Alt keys and simultaneously click on the Edit button on the welcome screen. After a few seconds release the three keys and look behind the welcome screen by closing it. Alternatively hold down the three keys whilst clicking on the desktop icon for the Editor or PhotoshopElementsEditor.exe in the Programs folder. Keep holding down all three keys for a few seconds; then release. You should get the settings option.
When you see a pop up box with the words: Delete Adobe Photoshop Elements Settings File?
Click on Yes
Then wait whilst Elements rebuilds the preferences.

I can't make more than one layer show up in the Layers panel.

How do I get multiple Layers to show up in the Layers Panel on the right side of the screen? I have two images I want to merge. selecting one displays it right over the other one; I can't perform the Merge.

From Full Edit (expert Mode) use the top menu:
File >> Open
Choose your first image and click the Open button
Then click File >> Place
Choose your second image and click the Place button

Layers Panel Bug?

I now use Encore CS5, having recently upgraded from CS3. My PC is Windows 7, 64 bit. I like to spread my panels out to 2 PC monitors. I created my Workspace and moved the Layers panel to my 2nd monitor. Now that panel is innoperative and causes flashing on the menu screen. If I switch back to the Default menu the problem goes away. I have used CS3 for years and never had this problem. Let me know if anyone knows of this bug and/or if there is a workaround.

Photos from cameras or scans have only one layer (the 'background' layer).
You can start with that 'background' layer and duplicate it or add other layers in the editing process. For instance you can make a selection of a subject and put it on another layer; a common use is to desaturate the 'background' and to keep the color in the selected subject in your newly created layer.

I tried to delete the layer attempt again. I am in a Photoshop class, but the work is all online, so all my teacher is going to do is send me to this site. I am trying to edit a photo for this class, and without this working, i go to filter>render>light effects. the bar and panel will pop up for about 2 seconds, then disappear. How do i get the options bar and properties panel to display?

I was about to suggest resetting LE from the Workspace drop-down top right corner, but if you can't see the Options Bar, I guess that is not going to happen. The normal Tool reset is grey out for LE, so it might be a case of resetting Preferences.
