Layout dosn't look right in design view

I have made the following to re-create the cross pattern I used for a FrontPage website:
http://www.benedictines-cib.org/demo/cross.html
It looks right in the browser, but when I view the page in design view (CS4) the navigation lines up on the left with the blue header and underneath it. Is this just something that happens? Or can I do something to avoid it? It looks fine in Live View.

This happens sometimes and it can be disconcerting, but the reality is design view is meaningless. I'd much rather have it perfect in the browser and not in DV thn the other way around. Code looks good, I'd not worry about it and let F12 be your freind.

  • Why page looks fine in Design view but not live view?

    I am new to DW. I created a page that looks fine in design view but now I cant get it to show up in live view or the browser preview. Can some one give me some areas to troubleshoot. Most of the code is from a previous page I created that still looks fine in every view. I am not sure what I could be doing different in setting up this site.

    Thanks for taking the time to reply to question. Aftr taking a break. I came back realized I inserted the stylesheet before I changed site settings. I just needed to remove the forward slash from my stylesheet declaration. FYI for anyone else new to DW: if stuffs not showing  in Live View and Browser Preview eg background images, Go to Manage Sites and check your site setting for Links relative to: You may have switched between document and site root. Thus breaking your links to images or in my case the entire style sheet.

  • Nested tables don't look right in design mode

    When I view www.akashhealingcenter.com with IE or Safari,
    everything looks fine. However, when I open the page in DW 2004,
    the tables don't look correct while in design or code/design mode.
    I've driven myself nuts trying to find out what I can do so
    that it looks correct.
    If I can get it to look right, I can turn daily maintenance
    (text updates mostly) to someone else - however, with the design
    looking so unlike the actual web page, I can't.
    I'm assuming the nested tables, graphic image backgrounds in
    the table data, etc. are driving DW 2004 nuts. I really don't want
    to spring for a new version of DW, so I hope that's not the answer.
    Thanks for the help.

  • Why does my page look great in design view and to the left in live view?

    I just created a new page using a fluid grid layout and in "design" view it looks great but in "live" view or on a browser preview the wording all goes to the left.  What I am doing wrong?  I also have another question which may relate to the first.  I  have four templates. Do I create a new named .css file for each new template or continue using the same layout.css file for all templates? Since I created a new .css file for every template maybe it is causing confusion.  Thanks in advance.

    If this is what you want, rework your HTML so all three images are in the same div and adjust your css to  narrow the scroll down image and on Order jpg, vertically align top, 30px margin.

  • Website suddenly goes to right of design view

    I don't know what i've done, but when i saved a webpage to a
    new folder and chose to update the links, the whole page now
    appears at the right of the page instaid of the center as it should
    be. This seems to happen with most other web pages that i now open
    with dream weaver.
    When opening the webpage in IE or FF it appears normal and in
    the center, its just in design view :S
    Can someone please help and tell me how i can correct it.
    Thank you

    It will appear normal on your dream weaver im faily sure, i
    think its just some configuration on dream weaver that needs
    sorting out.
    any ideas?

  • Significance of design view

    In the design view the right column doesn't float up to take its place next to the left column (there's enough space for both; together their width is still less than the wrapper), but when I look at it in Live view and preview it in browsers, they appear next to each other, as I intended.
    Does it matter that it doesn't look right in design view (apart from the fact that it makes designing more difficult)?
    Thank you.

    Without seeing your page, it's impossible to know why the float isn't being rendered in Design view. Normally, it should be. However, the only thing that matters in the end is what it looks like in a browser.
    Live View lets you work in the underlying code, so that can help if Design view isn't rendering your page as expected. Press F5 to update what's displayed in Live View.

  • Problem: design view looks completely different than live view

    I am trying to make changes to my home page in Dreamweaver, and when I am viewing the page in 'design view' the background image for the container is missing, and the divs are all over the place. When I view the same page in live view and in browser preview, it looks fine.
    Because I can't really see what the page is going to look like in 'design view', I can't really make changes to the site. Any help would be much appreciated.

    Thanks for the help.

    When things get really goofed up, it could be caused by malformed code or orphaned div tags.  Sometimes browsers will let you slide with poor code, but DW Design View won't.

  • Inserting tabbed navigation code makes my web page not display in design view..

    Hi everyone..
    I am on Dreamweaver 8 for MAC, and was working on a couple of web pages..these pages included divs and tables. But when I tried inserting a tabbed navigation I found at:
    http://www.dynamicdrive.com/dynamicindex17/tabcontent.htm
    In a nutshell, it asked me for step 1 to:
    Step 1: Insert the        below CSS and script into the HEAD section of your page:
    <link rel="stylesheet" type="text/css" href="tabcontent.css" />
    <script type="text/javascript" src="tabcontent.js">
    * Tab Content script v2.2- © Dynamic Drive DHTML code library (www.dynamicdrive.com)
    * This notice MUST stay intact for legal use
    * Visit Dynamic Drive at http://www.dynamicdrive.com/ for full source code
    </script>
    The next step was this:
    Step 2: Finally, simply add the below      HTML to where you wish the Tab Content to appear on the page:
    <h3>Demo #1- Basic implementation</h3>
    <ul id="countrytabs" class="shadetabs">
    <li><a href="#" rel="country1" class="selected">Tab 1</a></li>
    <li><a href="#" rel="country2">Tab 2</a></li>
    <li><a href="#" rel="country3">Tab 3</a></li>
    <li><a href="#" rel="country4">Tab 4</a></li>
    <li><a href="http://www.dynamicdrive.com">Dynamic Drive</a></li>
    </ul>
    <div style="border:1px solid gray; width:450px; margin-bottom: 1em; padding: 10px">
    <div id="country1" class="tabcontent">
    Tab content 1 here<br />Tab content 1 here<br />
    </div>
    <div id="country2" class="tabcontent">
    Tab content 2 here<br />Tab content 2 here<br />
    </div>
    <div id="country3" class="tabcontent">
    Tab content 3 here<br />Tab content 3 here<br />
    </div>
    <div id="country4" class="tabcontent">
    Tab content 4 here<br />Tab content 4 here<br />
    </div>
    </div>
    <script type="text/javascript">
    var countries=new ddtabcontent("countrytabs")
    countries.setpersist(true)
    countries.setselectedClassTarget("link") //"link" or "linkparent"
    countries.init()
    </script>
    <p><a href="javascript:countries.cycleit('prev')" style="margin-right: 25px; text-decoration:none">Back</a> <a href="javascript: countries.expandit(3)">Click here to select last tab</a> <a href="javascript:countries.cycleit('next')" style="margin-left: 25px; text-decoration:none">Forward</a></p>
    <hr />
    Well, I did all the steps required, but when I put this inside a div I had inside a table, all of a sudden I couldnt see anything in my design view, only two tables that arent even the same size..When I take out all this code, I get back my regular page..Can I see this tabbed navigation in my design view? Unfortunately, I dont have the spry widgets since I am on Dreamweaver 8..If I preview it in both Safari and Firefox (on Mac Firefox/3.0.8) (Safari 3.2.1) I can see everything fine, including the tabbed navigation..But designing in code isnt really helpful because I want to see what it looks like in design view, in case we change things-its just easier for me to work on..So I assume there is something in this code that is making my design view show nothing..
    Update:I tried taking out the code again, but this time, I couldnt see anything again, even without this code..
    I know that I can go to validation website, and I got a lot of errors-but all the pages I have that are in the same style have those same errors too—and they display fine..its only when I insert this specific piece of code that everything goes haywire..Is it even possible to view tabbed navigations (like the one in the above link) inside of Dreamweaver Design View?
    Any help would be appreciated..

    DW8 doesn't render any dynamic content, so I'd say it's a no go. You'll just have to live with that limitation or upgrade to CS4...

  • Design view problems in MX

    Hi everyone,
    I'm quite new to dreamweaver so I apologise if my question is
    a bit stupid. I was using MX on my PC and have recently bought a
    mac and got the mac version of MX. I'm now using on my mac the same
    site files that I wrote on my PC. Problem is now the design view is
    all messed up. When i preview the site in my browser it looks fine
    but in the design view it looks completely different with the
    headers all over the place. I am still able to work on the website
    but i have to keep checking things in my browser rather than
    accurately seeing how the page will look using the design view.
    Does anyone know the reason for this? I'd really appreciate
    some help.
    Thanks so much!

    Are you using MX or MX2004? There is a difference. MX2004 was
    moderately
    stupid about rendering CSS layouts, while MX was completely
    imbecilic about
    the same.
    Maybe a good place to start would be to post a link to the
    page.
    And by the way, any given page should look exactly the same
    in the Design
    view of Mac/PC DW.

  • Why can't I see my template in Design view as it is?

    Hi Guys
    A couple of days ago I noticed that my template which I use for my website, doesn't show correctly while working in design view. Quite annoying since I now constantly have to save all and view in Chrome or Firefox or...
    Does anyone know how I can make my template show again as it should be?
    See my website here: http://www.bmgraphics.be
    And see the difference of the template layout on this print screen of design view:

    Hi Nancy
    I don't think that this still is a problem. Otherwise I guess, with my few experience, I would have already gone totally mad...
    At the moment it seems as if there is a source code separate from the CSS stylesheet which used to be in only one stylesheet so.
    I downloaded the template together with the stylesheet etc. and it didn't cause any problems until I started combining styles off course
    Btw, Jon, the validator really did it I guess! It seems as if there were some mistakes which are now solved and it looks better now
    Thanks!

  • All time Bug! Accordion widget does not retain content position as in design view

    I have noticed that content placed inside an accordion widget that is stretched to fill browser width do not retain the position of its elements. This is very annoying as ones layout does not look right and balanced across screen.

    That was it KathH --- THANKS!!!
    Had created the row w/out <td> cells to carry the top banner (sort of cheating) on spanning the cells i guess ( )
    Anyway, re-wrote so that the banner table was independant and did not require span and picked up the data table independantly.
    Problem solved and designer picked up the image precisely.
    Thanks again!!!
    Curious though that the image is dependant on the <td> tag.  I would have expected any image called within the page to display in the designer regardless of location in the html.
    Oh well, fixed and onto the next challenge.
    Once more THANKS!!!

  • Design view in DW CS3 with php ?

    I am evaluating DW CS3 having previously used text editors to
    create simple php based sites.
    I'm having problems understanding if DW can show a design
    view of a static php page,that uses include php files to provide
    the html code for the top of the page and the bottom of the page.
    So something like
    <?php include('includes/top.php'); ?>
    <div id="main">
    <h1>Page under construction</h1>
    <div class="page_link"><a href="hw.php"
    title="HW">Hardware</a></div>
    </div>
    <div id="bottom">
    <?php include 'includes/bottom.php'; ?>
    </body>
    </html>
    top.php and bottom.php include some standard images/text I'm
    using on several pages. They contain standard html.
    Would I expect DW to show what this should look like in
    design view ? If so how do I get this to work ?

    > Would I expect DW to show what this should look like in
    design view ? If
    > so
    > how do I get this to work ?
    No, DW will not show this page in the way you are hoping.
    Why? Because the
    page doesn't contain <html>, <head>, or
    <body> tags. Sure, you have them in
    the include file, but DW won't like that. Must you have those
    tags in the
    files being included?

  • Coldfusion error displaying in Design view... ???

    This just popped up this morning:
    It's an error from a cfc I wrote. Why is this displaying in the Design View, and why is it there, especially when the cfc works correctly? To my knowledge, nothing has changed in flex Builder, but any help in removing this would be appreciated.
    Thanks,
    Les

    Somehow I managed to remove a section of code from the CFC. Since one of the CFFUNCTIONs was missing, it threw the error, right in design view.
    Once I replaced the missing code, everything was back to normal
