I need to find a layout for an A5 booklet, printed on A4 pages with a book fold, but I can't find anything. Can anyone help?

Layout for multiple lnaguages with PLD

Hi all,
lets say I need layouts prepared for two languages, say French and English. So I have two layouts per document, one for each language. My question is how can I set it so when I print a document, the proper layout will be selected according to the language set in the partner master data ?

Gordon,
in fact, you can set a template to only specified BPs where you would select BPs with a specific language. But then when you create new BPs, you have to do it again and again. Since a layout can be assigned a language, I thought that was to automate the process of picking the right layout.

Is there a way to have a chapter-less layout, for a children's book?

Hello fellow IBAs! I have tried literally everything, and have not been able to find a way to get rid of the chapter format. Does anyone have any advice? Books such as The Tale of Peter Rabbit appear to have no chapters, and I've certainly seen some iBooks that have no chapters. Is there any way to just have a straightaway children's picture book, without chapters, and without a table of contents? Any help would be appreciated, thank you. =)

Basic...child's book, example:
Crafting a chapter-less book is possible, but a minimum of one section is required. Remove the chapter label, leave the TOC blank and you'll then have a basic/generic point from which to work with.

Can I create x1 CR layout for all databases

Is it possible to have x1 Crystal Report Layout for x17 Databases with different Logos (Logos are based off the databases), a little detail:
We have x17 databases on the same SQL Server, I have created a Crystal Report which can be used for all companies / databases but I am wanting to know if there is a possibility to have this x1 Crystal Report and everytime you print from the relevant database it pulls that specific company Logo? Is there any Crystal Syntax to create this? especially when the field is labelled "Picture2" and is not a SBO Table & Field.
It seems logical than having x17 Crystal Reports.
Any ideas?

Thanks for the reply, for your last alternative:

I tried this with an If statement based off Company Name on the OADM table but was having issue with the If Statement (Format Editor > (X+2) Button next to Supress > Format Formula Editor - Suppress).
I will give the Print Preferences a Go but will it be possible with a If statement?

Layout for printing a book?

Does a page ordering template exist for Pages for printing a book with two pages per side of 8X10 in. paper (printing both sides) so that the pages will be ordered correctly when the sheets are stacked, folded and stapled? I want to publish poetry chapbooks using ten to twelve sheets of paper. I realize I shall need to trim the edge opposite the fold once folded. Or, is there a better way?

Welcome to Apple Discussions
This is one of the frequent answers I post. There are a few ways to do this. The first two involve setting your Pages document in File > Page Setup… to landscape orientation. I originally wrote this for Pages 2. In Pages 3, use the page layout mode for #s 1a & 1b.
1a - Use linked text boxes. This is easier done with the layout showing. First you need to add a page break to have two pages. Click in the body area & then Insert > Page Break. Now click outside the layout area to enter object mode & click the "T" in the tool bar or Insert > Text to create a text box & type something in it. This is to keep the box from disappearing if you click elsewhere & the text can be replaced later. If you already have some text to paste in you can just paste while in object mode & a text box containing your text will be created. You will now need to click outside the layout again & drag the cursor toward the text box to select it. You can now position the first text box in the lower right of your 2-page document. It is easier to see where it goes if you have the document set up with 2 columns. Click on the blue-outlined tab at the lower right of the text box to create a new of the same size & move the box to the upper left. Repeat for a box for the upper right & again for the lower right. You will now have 4 linked text boxes.
1b - Start as in 1a creating a 2-page document with 2 columns in landscape orientation. For this one you will use the body text area. Just type or paste your text in as normal, starting in the upper left. When you have your text done, cut all of the text in the first column (upper left), insert a column break after the last character on the now lower left column & paste the cut text after it in the now lower right column.
Neither one of these will let you automatically use page numbers because Pages "sees" each page & you actually have 2 pages per page.
2 - Use Cocoa Booklet to create a booklet with any number of pages (best in a multiple of 4). Start with your Pages document in Legal size & larger than normal font size. Export the Pages document to a PDF & then drag the PDF to the icon of Cocoa Booklet. It will create a new PDF in booklet form.

Customizable layouts for books?

Is it possible to customize page layouts for books in iPhoto? For example -- it drives me crazy that there are layouts with 4 or 6 photos but none with 5. Or, that all the photos in a 8 page layout have to be exactly the same size and that you can't adjust the sizes of pictures in the layouts. Is it possible to create your own layouts for the iPhoto books? Or at least adjust picture size, etc. in the existing layouts?

Welcome to the Apple Discussions. No, there are no such themes or layouts. What some do is to create a full page layout in a 3rd party editor like Photoshop Elements that can handle layers and use it on a 1 photo per page layout. However, any frames or special borders won't be easily created.

TIP: For insurance against the iPhoto database corruption that many users have experienced I recommend making a backup copy of the Library6.iPhoto database file and keep it current. If problems crop up where iPhoto suddenly can't see any photos or thinks there are no photos in the library, replacing the working Library6.iPhoto file with the backup will often get the library back. By keeping it current I mean backup after each import and/or any serious editing or work on books, slideshows, calendars, cards, etc. That insures that if a problem pops up and you do need to replace the database file, you'll retain all those efforts. It doesn't take long to make the backup and it's good insurance.
I've written an Automator workflow application (requires Tiger), iPhoto dB File Backup, that will copy the selected Library6.iPhoto file from your iPhoto Library folder to the Pictures folder, replacing any previous version of it. It's compatible with iPhoto 08 libraries. iPhoto does not have to be closed to run the application, just idle. You can download it at Toad's Cellar. Be sure to read the Read Me pdf file.

I have one Mac, two users. I wish to share a iBook with my wife, the other user. I move a copy of the book folder to "public" folder, and in her account "added to library". Does not show even though cue claims it is in her library. No book.

I find sharing books within my one computer near impossible - not easy as music is. It used to be easier, but now with iBooks and some other changes this has become difficult. Also - I can use the search feature to find the "books" folder, and use "Get Info" to find the supposed address, and then not find that folder location at all using a manual method stepping through Finder. So a second question is: where is this file hiding? It is not under User/Library/Containers.... as claimed by "Get Info". It seems that if I buy a book, the family can use it to put on their iPad.

Part of me understands the need to have purchases protected. I hope this does not get more and more complicated for "within family use". It is nice to buy music and share it with my wife, as we used to do with books prior to the iBooks "upgrade" - which mostly consisted of making it impossible to share books. Thanks though for your response; I was hoping for some luck and that maybe I had missed some simple step. To Apple: lighten up.

Custom layouts for Address book - plugins? utilities?

I checked out Dr. Mac's site (I think that was the name) instructions on creating custom layouts which will also work with address book. It didn't help since I want to design my own layout and be able to preview it in address book. Unfortunately that feature doesn't seem to exist (unless I've missed it) so I'd like to find either a utility or plugin that allows me to do this within address book. I want to set the column widths, the widths between each column, where to put the page number etc.
Your comments and/or suggestions would be most welcome.

you can't. there is nothing like this in address book. no plugins or 3rd party tools for this either. and I don't understand what you really mean by a custom layout when talking about address book. address book just lists addresses. you can customize which fields and address book entry can have but that's it.

FM9 – Folders within books – associating a template with a folder

I'm trying to test some of the new features in FrameMaker 9, and I came across the following in the FM9 User Guide:
Folders You can use folders in a book to organize files and set numbering properties on a folder. You can include
multiple subfolders within a folder and associate templates with a folder. A folder, depending on where it appears in
the book hierarchy, works like a chapter, section, or subsection with subordinate components.
I'm intrigued about the idea of associating a template with a folder and I am trying to find out what the feature is for and how to use it. I've searched the rather woeful User Guide and found no other mention of this feature, except how to set the Template Path to a URL.
Can anybody enlighten me?

MacBook Pro starts up with blinking folder and question mark in it. Is there a fix to this issue or has the HDD crashed for good?

I startup my mac and I see a white screen background with a folder icon in the center and a question mark blinking in the center. Called Apple and the rep says this is probably a HDD crash. Only solution is to take it into a Apple store and get a replacement HDD which would cost $300 and upwards. This mac book is about 15 months old and cost $1300. Needless to say I'm highly upset. I have a problem locating where the net book value is stored in SAP. Is it simply calculated and not stored in any one place? I am trying to predict how SAP will calculate the net book value for some assets we plan on converting, but my formula doesn't always work consistently and I have not idea what is going on. If it is stored in a table some place, can anyone please let me know!

It is not possible to directly get net book value of an any Table. You must migrate the gross book value (acquisition cost) and the accumulated depreciation. SAP will then calculate the NBV.

Acrobat X Pro Missing Grid with File Preview Layout for Portfolios

In Acrobat 9 Pro, there was a Portfolio layout called Grid with File Preview. We use it as our primary layout for PDF portfolios because it allows users to rapidly view PDFs within a portfolio. This was our primary reason for using Portfolios. Unfortunately, this important feature was removed in Acrobat X Pro resulting in clunky and very slow PDF viewing.
Adobe needs to immediately reinstate Grid with File Preview into Acrobat X Pro. Until this happens, I will continue to use Acrobat 9 Pro.
I encourage everyone to use the Feature Request/Bug Report Form to submit this as a Bug. Unless everyone complains, nothing will happen.

How can I search for a file with part of a filename in a given folder?
Or can I change the columns in Advanced Search so that the heading is filename?

thanks, Michel. it had occurred to me to put a scratch tag on the folder, but I was hoping for an easier way. in future I'll do as you suggest though, because it's easier than what I have been doing.

I do hope you have recent backup, because it look like your hard disk is failing. You can start up in Recovery Mode, and run Disk Utility to see if the disk can be fixed: OS X: About OS X Recovery - Apple Support
