LC8: Auto Save question
Is there a way to have a form created in LC8 auto save so that it is not lost in the event of a computer crash or power failure?

Yeah, I have had numerous crashes using LC8 and have lost hours worth of work.
It's hard to understand that Adobe has not fixed this problem and added an auto-save feature.

I'm on Mountain Lion for all my "non-critical" work, but I'm still running the latest Snow Leopard on my main desktop machine, running CS6 Design & Web Premium. I've avoided the switch primarily because of the auto-save feature that Apple placed into ML. I haven't found a satisfactory answer anywhere on the web to this basic question...is auto-save a problem, as Apple implements it, with CS6 and working on images?
In particular: 1. I work on very larger files, 4GB+ in size regularly, and I don't wan't the peformance hits associated with constant saving, 2. I make changes to images, downsizing them, croping, color corrections, etc. so that I can make jpg proofs for clients or myself. These are more "intermediary" images and not intended to be saved. I don't want to downsample an image, flatten it to creat a jpg for proof and have it overwrite the original image layered, high res by mistake. Does this happen with photoshop, or does Adobe avoid the auto-save that Apple uses?
I have all the latest iOS gadgets and it's becoming quite cumbersome managing multiple sets of iCloud info, etc. without being on ML. I'd like to make the switch, but at the cost of losing work, etc. Can someone with experience on ML & CS6 give me any input in the matter? And, does this also apply to all the other Adobe apps in CS6? I'm constantly making minor changes and edits that I usually "undo" out of and don't want saved.

CraigSo, in other words, photoshops behavior works the same, using save as..., etc. as it did under Snow Leopard? I should expect the auto-save behavior that occurs in apps like iPhone, etc., where i can actually lose the original because of the constant backups, etc.?

A question about Auto Save, Versions and Preview.
I haven't upgraded to Lion (yet?). I'm trying to understand what impact Lion will have on my workflow.
Do I understand right that it is not possible to turn off Lion's Auto Save?
And that the autosavings are stored in a hidden sqlLite data base?
I use Preview for... err... previewing files (PDFs and image files). Nothing I open (preview) in Preview I save.

The idea of Versions looks good to me, it certainly is not a 'con to upgrade'. The amount of disk space it uses and where (on which disk) is a bit of a concern to me. But by the time the applications I work with implement this feature that probably will be sorted out.

I do want to upgrade. Eventually. Although I do worry about the direction Apple are heading in, I don't want to get stuck in the past.
I'm disappointed AirDrop is not for my computers. And the treatment Spaces and Exposé got really withholds me of upgrading any time soon. Maybe a third party developer dives into this matter. Working with an external display connected to notebooks has changed in Lion and is not particularly handy for everyone. (While using the external display only, opening the lid of the notebook in Lion turns on the display of the notebook. This was not the case before Lion.) -
I have a site I do business with. They do not authorize passwords unless you are a dealer. I do not have passwords on an auto save function, as I want to type my passwords in each time for security. My password for this site will only work a short WHILE, AND THEN it will not be recognized by the site and I cannot get in.
Then I must contact the company to reset or clear it manually on their end so it can be reset. They always give me the SAME SETUP PASSWORD to use. I use it, then I RESET PASSWORD on my end. The computer seems to remember my user NAME AT least on my computer as it comes up once I start typing the username in. They SAY IT is a settings issue on my end. I do not have this problem on any other site even THOSE WITH higher SECURITY. I need to FIX the issue OR may LOSE ACCESS To the site as is very aggravating for them and they say other have had the problem but usually with chrome but never constantly.I am not that computer literate ,but my husband is an IT Security professor and textbook writer but says doesn't really know Firefox. I do not really want to store passwords on computer as have been hacked several times. He and I do not understand some of the terms mentioned. since it is not a problem with other sites it should be fixable. Please me help using terms I or my husband can understand without having to give Firefox all my passwords. I would be happy to set up something different just for this one site if I need to but need easy instructions. Have cleared the cookies before but it still happens. Let's start with Firefox's settings:
(1) You can configure the password manager feature on this tab:
orange Firefox button (or Tools menu) > Options > Security
There is a checkbox to enable/disable the feature.
There also is a "Saved Passwords" button to review and remove any passwords you do not want Firefox to keep.
That tab also has a feature to set a Master Password so that no one can use your saved passwords without knowing the Master Password. You may need to exit Firefox in order for Firefox to ask for that again.

(2) Site-specific permissions
If you want to use the password manager for other sites but NOT a particular site, you can configure that in the Permissions Manager.
In a new tab, type or paste '''about:permissions''' in the address bar and press Enter.
After the page loads, use the search box in the upper left corner to narrow down the list to the site you want to configure. Highlight the site on the left side, and on the right side, choose Block under Store Passwords.
(3) Form autocomplete suggestions
Separate from passwords, Firefox remembers entries you've made into forms (in most cases) and lists the matching ones below the form field in a drop-down.
To clear a suggestion, press the down arrow key to highlight it and press the Delete key.

Would a 347 MB file be slow? Auto save and auto type turn off?
I am doing an art inventory and add jpegs of the art. I don't resize them they range from 750k to 3MB. I guess if it is slowing the program down i should? It currently is 267 rows by about 18 columns.

Auto-Save-Option with increasing filenames (counter, timestamp eg.)
Hello!
I want to pdf a job of 30.000 single printer pages, which are generated by a computer programme.
I'm able to choose the Autos-Save-Option by setting a dedicated folder at the printer settings. But there ist no option to install an increasing filename (counter, timestamp eg.). For that reason Acrobat overwrites the previous file each time (30.000x).
In some freeware-tools this funktion is implemented. Where or in which version can I find this funktion in Adobe Acrobat?

Following the suggestion, I have removed all information I can remove. I have set all settings to "contacts only" that can be set to such. I cannot change my avatar because I cannot save changes (without adding my last name, which is currently blank). I have left everything blank that I can leave blank. I have been contacted three times after I have made these changes, as suggested.
In the Windows Desktop version of the Skype software, I can navigate to my profile settings: Skype -> Profile -> Edit your profile.
My work-around still works ... for me, at least, which is why I continue to recommend it.

Did you know that if you look up how to delete your name from the Skype directory, it says that you are effectively disabling your account? Your name will not show up in searches, and it will remain in the contact lists of those who have already added you, but those contacts will no longer be able to call you.

Upgraded to Lion. Numbers is stalling to auto save after every keystroke. Isn’t auto save supposed to run in the background?
It's supposed to save when the processor isn't triggered by the user. If you type slowly, time between two strokes may be sufficient to allow it to start the save process.

changed to Mac 3 months ago and the only thing that's still bugging me is the way iPhoto works!
ok, let's say I have a managed library where all the imported photos are saved into the iPhoto folder.
when I make changes to the photos, can it not auto-save AT THE SAME POSITION instead of saving the edited photo in a different folder???
If I make a change I want the original photo to be deleted and only keep the edited one.
Because, if it keeps the originals and then in a year's time I want to say move to a PC or if I just want to backup in an external drive how will I do this without manually sorting out the edited photos from the originals that should have been deleted???

Then don't use iPhoto. It's not a photo editor, though it can edit pics. It's a Photo Organiser - that is, it manages your digital assets and always preserves your original file in the way a film photographer would mind his negative. This is built-in to iPhoto, it cannot be turned off. If you don't want the feature then iPhoto is not the app for you.

To back up: simply copy the iPhoto Library from your Pictures folder. That gets everything: your Originals, your edited versions, albums etc.
If you want to migrate then do it the really simple way: select the pics in the iPhoto Window and go File -> Export and set the Kind: to Current if you want your edited versions (or Originals if you want those).
Bluntly there is never a need for you to access the iPhoto Library via the Finder or with any other app.

After nearly 4 hours of editing in PE7, I got the Windows XP error message telling me that the program had encountered a problem and needed to shut down. Just before that, I had clicked on the button to make a DVD. My first reaction was that I wouldn't have lost much because auto-save was enabled, with saves every 20 minutes. However, virtually no edits had been saved. Looking at the PREL files in the autosave folder, I saw that there had been three saves from three hours previous, before I had done much work. For some reason PE7 had stopped autosaving. In preferences, auto-save is still enabled. I have both versions 3 and 7 installed on my PC, and this project was originally started in 3, so many files are saved in the version 3 folders including the PREL files, if that matters.
Any ideas what went wrong? I know that auto-save used to work reliably. Searching the forum and knowledgebase turns up nothing about this problem.
(my computer is a PC with an Intel 6700 Duo Core Pentium CPU and 2G of RAM running Windows XP Pro SP3)
Additional: I now see in the help file something I didn't notice before. It states "Note: Each time you open a project, you must save it at least once before the Auto Save option takes effect." I don't recall having manually saved it even once, yet it did auto-save three times, as mentioned above.Thanks guys. I may set a timer to remind me to do my own saves next time. The autosave periods were the default 20 minutes, and I still don't understand why there were 3 saves early on, during a time when I was away from the computer. Only after I resumed working did that function stop. One more thing: the help file says that when restarting after a crash I should have seen a message asking if I wanted to resume from the last saved configuration, or something like that. There was no such message. Also, I see that the autosave PREL files are contained in the Autosave folder, but there is also a PREL, apparently the newest one, in the file path one level higher where all of the data files are contained.
This is a little bit away from the original question, but can I now delete version 3 since I'm (generally) satisfied with V7. I don't want to jeopardize the current project, which still has some more editing to be done, especially after losing the aforementioned edits.
One more thing: would increasing RAM from the current 2 gigs help prevent a crash like the one the occurred. -
In my excitement, I started a few sheets, then realized I should save them. Numbers quit unexpectedly when I was saving the first one. I reopened Numbers and there didn't seem to be any "recovered files" like MSOffice had - no trace of the documents.
1. Is there a place to "find" the sheets I had open when Numbers quit?
2. Does Numbers have auto-save? Or does it go by a different name?

FCPX Auto-Save: Error Sound When Hitting Command "S"
Final Cut Pro X should have an option to turn off auto-save. I HATE it! My question, is there any way to turn off the error sound when you hit command S? It is training me not to save and causing major problems for me when I use other software.
There is no meaning for "Save" in FCP X, since it is a database-driven application.
However, if you tend to hit Cmd-S pretty often, you may avoid the error sound by associating the keyboard combination Cmd-S to some innocuous command. -
When I try to save a document a message comes up saying "Couldn't auto-save document." How can I fix this? Thank you for your help! - Chip
This is a mean one. I don't have time to try and find the cause, but at least some answers to your questions, to hopefully shed some more light on this.
Where was the original destination? iCloud folder.
On another drive? Tried to Save as... to Hard Drive (also changing name of file), always get the same non-descript short Error "Couldn't auto-save document." (slides down from top with a yellow warning triangle). Status to the right of document name is "Not Saved".
Another Server? No access at this time.
I also tried File, Revert to, Browse all versions, to check what I'd be losing. Saw I wasn't losing much and selected the last version and pressed Restore - same error. In the end I just quit Pages and re-opened. The document opened with the last few edits missing (but with the status "Edited" next to the name). I re-edited and could save. Good old habit of saving often. -

I've been trying to find an option for auto-save in Logic (and to set how often it does this)... but I can't find anything...
Does it just do auto-save in the background? Or is there no auto-save feature?
It's easy to forget to keep saving in a long session and would be nice to know Logic does it for you!!

the reason is: Logic have a .crash save function...
it works great... (if you don't use 3rd party plugs with false Audio Units validation Pass.

Hi,
Before upgrading to Maverick, I used to sync all my contacts via iTunes.
iTunes used to have an option to "Add contacts created outside of groups on this iPhone to: (drop-down)".
I had created a group called ' RECENTLY ADDED ', so that every time I saved a new number whilst meeting people / networking, etc, it would auto-save to that group. I would then sync via iTunes, and voila- all my new contacts would be in there.
As a marketer, I allocate my contacts into various complicated groups... so from there, I would proceed to move each contact into their relevant group, and then 'delete' from group (not delete completely). I would repeat this step until all contacts were moved out, leaving an empty 'recently added' group.
The next time i was out networking/saving new numbers, the process would repeat...
Now that I have upraded to Maverick and using iCloud syncing, I cannot find this feature.
The previous method I used worked brilliantly, and I do not always have time to add notes, etc (for a smart group) when saving new numbers.
I'm struggling to find a solution now that I'm using the iCloud syncing service...
Any suggestions to make it easy??If the information is in iTunes on the computer you have synced with in the past another sync, being sure you select the items you want on the iphone, should copy those things back to the iPhone.
