LCCS shuts down permanently December 31st. What's your plan?

I assume everyone received the email (below) from Jeff Stanier this morning regarding LCCS being shut down for good at the end of the year. My question is what everyone is doing in the face of this news?
We've built a large part of our company on LCCS and are scrambling for a solution that we can implement to replace LCCS before the end of the year. There was no transition plan or any details at all given in the email.
Any other LCCS users discussing transition plans? Is there any opportunity for us to collaborate so that those of us dependent on LCCS aren't totally left in the cold?
Much appreciated,
Ion
  Dear LCCS Customer,
I am writing to inform you of Adobe‚s plan with respect to LiveCycle Collaboration Services (LCCS).  Due to recent changes in Adobe‚s strategic direction the decision has been made to end of life the LCCS product. Adobe will continue to provide LCCS production service for an additional 9 months until December 31, 2012.  At that time the service will be shut down.  Beginning March 23, 2012 the following changes will be made to the service:
In order to support your continued patronage while we ramp down the service, Pay Per Usage (PPU) accounts will no longer be charged and a free account quota of $1000/month will be granted. As a result of this change, monthly billing statements will no longer be issued.
Free subscribers will no longer be able to upgrade to a PPU account.
No new accounts will be created.
We apologize for any inconvenience the termination of the service causes you. Thank you for being an Adobe LiveCycle Collaboration Services customer.

Jeff,
Again, I realize you're just the messenger, so I bear no animosity towards you, but this decision by Adobe and the way it's being handled (again) makes absolutely no sense to me.
If the user provisioning and billing is the only major aspect which is holding up releasing this technology to Spoon (if indeed that is the case), then why do we have to assume that the "partner" taking over this tech has to make any money off it? Why could a company not use this to install on their own servers, much like FMS? Why assume that a hosting provider has to be involved? The tech could be released to Spoon with the understanding that certain aspects, previously tied into Adobe billing backend, will only work once the community rearchitects them to work with an open source version. LCCS as it's given over to the community would be "broken," as it were, but only for as long as it takes for the community to redesign those missing aspects, assuming they are merely administrative backend aspects and not a part of the core technology.
And if some of the aspects of the tech are the same as what are in other current Adobe offereings, why does LCCS have to come in a complete package? Would it not be possible to "license" the NDA aspects of the tech to Spoon or another "angel partner" (for free, since you're letting it go anyways), and liberate the rest of LCCS to spoon?
C'mon Adobe (and I don't mean you Jeff), you can't have it both ways: you all but admitted that after all this time you still have not figured out how to monetize your own technologies, so you're gradually giving them away. Well, then give them away already, and stop holding the rest of us  hostage. Please.

Which Mail icon? That in the Applications folder, that in the Dock, or some other? You do not have to quit your applications in order to shut down your computer (heck, you hardly ever need to shut down your computer).

No, you simply do not.  Apple does not sell insurance.
Apple offers an Extended Warranty called AppleCare.
Warranties doe not cover lost or stolen devices.  Buy a new one.

The startup disk may need repairing...
Startup your Mac while holding down the Command + R keys.
From there you should be able to access the built in utilities in OS X Recovery

if your iphone 3gs just shuts down when something went wrong with your hardware is there any possible way to get all pictures or other important stuff onto itunes?

What happened to the phone. Did it just go black? Did you try to plug it into Itunes and see if it can be seen or throw it on the charger. You can still try the reset procedure listed in http://support.apple.com/kb/ht1430 and see if the phone turns back on.
The only way to get things back is to have backed them up ahead of time.

  • Pse trial v12 installed but when opening the editor it shuts down after 2 seconds, what can be the problem? I have windows 8.1 64 bit with the latest video drivers installed. Thanks

PSE trial 12 installed just fine but when i start the editor it opens and shuts down after about 2 seconds without an error, the only thing that appears is a message with 'continue trial'.
I have windows 8.1 64 bit and i already installed the latest video drivers, intel hd 4000 and nvidia geforce 710M.
I also installed premiere elements version 12 with the same problem.
What can be the problem here, please help?
    Thanks.

    Hi roberto-
Yes, its a shame. I have also contacted lenovo support hoping that they can sort out this problem. However, first response from them was 'contact your internet service provider since internet connectivity goes down'! :-/ I am hoping I have been able to get through to them now at least about where the problem lies. I wonder if anyone has tried using the laptop with the same broadcom wireless adapter with some other version of OS (linux, windows 7 etc.) and whether they still face the same problem. I haven't tried that yet. If this is just an OS / driver issue I hope someone somewhere is working on a fix! If not, I guess the only other solution would be to get an external USB wifi adapter but that is not something one would want to do when you buy a brand new Lenovo laptop. This was a big let down for me.

  • Airport express shuts down after december update firmware

can anyone advise me on AEXpress which shuts down very soon after powering up, all since i upgraded firmware earlier in december? this is a replacement model which i got new in summer 2010...out of warranty now. it was fine on XP as client mode connecting wirelessly to Linksys WRT160N router; since upgrade, the airport express shows green light for 2 seconds; then amber for 1 minute; then no light at all. sometimes i plug it in and no lights appear at all. i doubt it's hardware as it followed the software update immediately. Should I somehow try to reinstall the previous software? but don't know how to do that since it won't stay powered on and doesn't show on airport utility. thanks, pdoyle

Your best option is going to be to try to perform a Factory Default Reset on the AirPort Express to see if that will clear up the difficulties. If this is successful, you could rollback the firmware to an earlier version or reconfigure the device again with the current version of firmware.
o Power down the Express for at least 20 minutes
o Hold in the reset button and keep holding the reset button in as you plug the Express back in to power
o Keep holding the reset button until you see the amber light blink more quickly. Hold another 3-4 seconds when you see this and release the reset button.
With luck, the Express has now been returned to default settings so you can try to reconfigure it again.
If you try the Factory Default Reset a few times and the Express is still having difficulties, I'm afraid there's been an internal failure within the device and it will need to be replaced.

  • Scrambled screen, forced shut down then blue screen. whats the problem?

    Hi,
My 2 years old Macbook Pro started to fail in the past few days in a strange way, to which I would be hapy to find an explanation or suggestion to fix it.
After a few hours of usage, usually when I open a program (iPhoto for example), the screen gets messed up, scrambled or just split in half (right side on the left and left side on the right). Usually the only option I have is to forcibly shut down the computer, but then I only see first grey screen stuck and after the second forced restart it is only blue screen after the apple logo upon restart.
I have managed to fix the problem twice so far (yesterday and today) by using the CMD-S combo at start-up and then fix the corrupted file system with the /sbin/fsck -fy command (which I had to repeat 2-3 times til the file system was fixed). After that I could restart the computer.
I am afraid that it may just happen again, but not sure what is the problem. could it be the video card, or the RAM or perhaps my HDD is dying?
I am no expert, please let me know your opinions and suggestions! I would really appreciate it!
    cheers
    Adam

I have this exact same problem. It's only started occuring recently but its dreadful. I think it has to do with graphic switching. Whenever I open a program that asks for dicrete GPU my computer does the above or just freezes. When I reboot, I have to put my password in twice due to filevault I think, It passes the first but freezes after the second.
I downloaded a program called gfxcardstatus to confirm this, and it only occurs when I try to switch graphics. (My idead was to force integrated only, but when I try that it freezez)

  • To shut down or to sleep, what`s better?

what`s better to put it to sleep or shut it down?

    Sleeping
Many computer users almost NEVER shut down their computers. There are many positive benefits to this (especially if you're a Mac user). When a Mac goes to sleep, almost every component inside the computer is turned off; what is not turned off is set in a 'low-power mode'. The contents of the RAM and Video RAM are saved, the network ports might still get a little power, and a few other subsystems stay on, but pretty much everything else is off.
On a laptop, this mode uses VERY little battery power - if you're going to use your laptop again within a day or so without the power adaptor plugged in, this could actually save battery power, as shutting down/starting up uses a lot more energy (much more disk access, processor power, etc.). On a desktop, this could save a little energy (thus a few $$$), especially if you put it to sleep a few times a day when you know you won't be using it.
The best advantage to sleeping is that the computer (a) goes to sleep almost immediately, allowing quick transport of a laptop, and no vigilance after clicking 'Shut Down...' on a desktop, and (b) wakes up almost immediately, allowing you to get to work right away.
    Shutting Down
Shutting down a computer has a few benefits as well. One is that NO power is being used at all - for laptops, it's best to shut it down if you're not going to use it for a day or two, as it will save a little bit of energy and heat from being wasted in your laptop. On a desktop, you might wish to shut down so that you can transport it, or if you won't use it for a long while.
Also, shutting down completely wipes away the computer's RAM (random access memory), which might have some corrupt/junk data left in it from various things the computer does. It also lets the computer's components cool down. I definitely recommend shutting down at least once a month or so.
However, when you shut down and start up your computer, the hard drive and other components get more wear and tear, and use more energy.
    The Verdict
I recommend all Mac users to sleep their computers unless they won't be used for more than a day or two, and all Mac users should shut down their computers at least once a month to clean out all the gibbledygook that collects inside the components.

  • Shutting down at night. What about those maintenance procedures that run at night?

I have been shutting down my MacBook Pro OS X10.7.3 at night.
I just read that OSX runs "maintenance" procedures early in the morning (between 3:15 am and 5:30 am) and that if Mac is powered off at that time, that these maintenance procedures will NOT run.
True or False?  AppleCare says that it won't make any difference and I won't be affected if these night procedures never run.  But, if that's true, then why are they set up to run at night? ? ?
I went to the Apple Manual but it does not address my question.
    Thanks for your help.

Don't worry, Apple fixed the issue that they didn't run when people sleep or shutdown their computer.
You read some old information that's all.

OS X- Gray progress bar appears under Apple logo during startup
I suggest you need to erase your drive and reinstall OS X. Be prepared for the possibility that your hard drive has failed.
Install or Reinstall Mavericks or Mountain Lion from Scratch
Be sure you backup your files to an external drive or second internal drive because the following procedure will remove everything from the hard drive.
OS X Mavericks- Erase and reinstall OS X
OS X Mountain Lion- Erase and reinstall OS X
OS X Lion- Erase and reinstall Mac OS X
Note: You will need an active Internet connection. I suggest using Ethernet if possible

My ipod 4 started to freeze which I would have to then reset. Now it is turning off all by itself. What can I do to fix this?  BTW- it is only 1.5 months old.

    Try:
    - iOS: Not responding or does not turn on
    - Also try DFU mode after try recovery mode

    - If not successful and you can't fully turn the iOS device fully off, let the battery fully drain. After charging for an least an hour try the above again.
    - If still not successful that usually indicates a hardware problem and an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store is in order. If defective, within warranty and not aboused Apple will exchange it at no cost.
