LCD as second screen has purple tint!! Help!!

Hello all,
I have just connected a 19" LCD screen to my iBook 14" through the DVI adapter that came with my mac. While the iBook has instantaneously mirrored my desktop, the LCD screen has a heavy purple tint on it. The screen on my iBook is still fine but the LCD screen is unworkable. Everything appears on it, its just heavily purple-ised. Does anyone know why this is, and what I can do about it?
Any help greatly appreciated
regards,
Glen Kristensen

Sorry, my mistake, the LCD screen I am using as a second screen is 17" not 19". I Have tried on another screen (but the same model) so I am sure the problem is with the iBook. I don't really see why the iBook underpowering the external screen would make it turn purple. Let me just clarify, the screen is displaying everything crystal clearly, the only problem is that there is a purple hue or tint over everything. So for example the colour white isn't white on the second screen but purple.

  • Since i have installed OS Lion, my second screen has just gone grey. Why is this?

I can still see my mouse on it and right click for options; but there is no background and i cannot see any windows/apps.  When using Snow Leopard i didn's have this issue, it is recent, since installing Lion. I have checked the monitor, it works as a main monitor of the Windows Computer, as a monitor for a PS3, on my familys(and my) MacBook Pro as a second screen. Can anyone help?

I am really cross with Apple for not involving the iDVD with Lion (even if it was an older version, they should atleast have made it compatible).
iDVD is compatable with Lion. I carried it over from Snow Leopard when I upgraded and it runs faultlessly. I do not know what has happened during your upgrade that has caused it to stop working properly.

  • Looks like my screen has yellow tint problem.

looks like my screen has yellow tint problem, images look  more yellowish. Does anyone have similar issue with their mac airs?

This isn't an actually an issue. Apple have recently changed the screens they put in all their devices. If you were to put an iPhone 4 bought on release date next to one bought a month ago you would see that the older iPhone 4 would have a "bluer" screen. This is because the old screens had unnaturally bright whites so the new screens are supposed to be closer to the real colours and give a broader range of colours.

  • [Solved] X11 has purple tint when using catalyst-test drivers

Hey guys, so I turned the TV on for my HTPC last night hoping to watch some anime. But when it turned on the screen had a purple tint! I tried to do some debugging over SSH from my phone while in bed, but decided to just go to sleep instead.
Tonight I narrowed down the problem a bit, it's certainly related to the catalyst drivers (No problems when using xf86-video-ati).
I'm noticing warnings from various programs that look like
libpng warning: iCCP: known incorrect sRGB profile
Taking a screenshot using `scrot` and viewing it the screen looks fine..
Here's my xorg.conf (which is just the default genearted by aticonfig --initial)
    Section "ServerLayout"
    Identifier "aticonfig Layout"
    Screen 0 "aticonfig-Screen[0]-0" 0 0

I suspected that it might have been a package upgrade, but downgrading packages that looked like they might have been the problem didn't solve anything.
    Any ideas?
Edit: Just tried with xorg1.13 with Catalyst 13.4 (stable).. same problem.
Edit 2: After starting and then stopping X this problem happens in the framebuffer too.. hmmm (It doesn't happen during boot time or during initial login, it's not a bad cable connection!)
Edit 3: The problem does not occur when using the VGA d-sub output, only when using the HDMI output
    Edit 4: Here's my Xorg.0.log

This was fixed by changing the "Pixel Format" in the catalyst control center to "RGB (Full RGB)".. Somehow it got changed to "YcBcr".
I removed the /etc/ati/amdpcsdb file that the fglrx driver likes to put settings in and did a fresh reinstall of catalyst-test and everything looks good now. Really no idea how the pixel profile got changed. Also noticed that my resolution was much lower than it should have been (which for some reason doesn't affect XBMC which runs in native resolution no matter what?), but that was an easy fix of adding Mode "1920x1080" to my Display section in xorg.

  • Just got my  new phone - tried to download from app store and screen has frozen. Help?

Just got my new iphone and tried to download Angry Birds from the app store.  BUT screen has frozen.  Any suggestions?

Reset the iPhone by pressing and holding the sleep/wake button and the home button for 20 seconds (maybe longer) until the Apple logo appears, ignore the red slider.  Then turn back on. You won't lose any data doing the reset.

  • Screen has purple/pink lines and blue square whenever I plug in usb or ac adapter

    Hi all,
I recently bought a macbook (white) at the end of last year.  However, recently I've had a problem where if I plug in something to the usb (like an external hdd) or the ac adapter to charge, my screen gets purple/pink lines and a blue square.  A screenshot of what I see is linked below.  Any input for solving this problem would be appreciated.

Yeah - the monitor was faulty...
Thanks to everyone that responded to the several posts.

  • Screen has yellow tint

Whenever I turn my imac on it has a yellow tint. I've done the color calibration. Sometimes it'll turn back to normal, but when I shutdown/sleep and turn it back on it'll turn yellow again. Then other times when I do the color calibration, it won't even change, the screen will still have a yellow tint. I have no idea how this happened. Any help would be appreciated.

    Hi there,
First, make sure your iMac is or is not on the Apple Repair Extension program: http://www.apple.com/support/imac/repairextensionprogram/ this addresses some video and power issues...
The only way I can make my screen slightly yellow or amber is through calibrating the display while in expert mode:
System Preferences > Displays > Color... from here pick any Display Profile to Calibrate, CHECK the box for Expert Mode, continue without changing anything till you reach 'Target White Point', you should check the box 'Use Native White Point', continue and SAVE AS a new profile name... this should get you back to nuetral white... if this fixes the problem you can always go back and calibrate this profile and tweak any settings you wish

  • A720 Screen has Bluish Tint

    Hello,
I need some help with my screen I have gone through numerous steps to adjust but the screen still seems to have a bluish tint.  A newer driver is out but I am unable to install it for some reason.  Reinstalling the recommended driver has not helped.
    Any suggestions?

    dcxman:
Not sure if you have resolved this issue yet, but I had this issue this morning. (I have a B320)
If you go to the Intel (R) HD Graphics icon located in the Notification area of your Task bar>Select: Graphic Properties>Select: Adcanced Mode>Select: Monitor/TV Settings>Scroll to bottom and select Restore Factory Default.
I had to do it a few times, then restarted the machine. Everything is back to normal now.
Hope this helps if you are still dealing with the issue.

  • My mac mini is connected to my panasonic LCD and the screen has gone blank

    So here's what I did.
I plugged my old mac mini (10.4.11) to my Panasonic Viera LCD flat screen with a VGA cable. When it loaded up and i logged in i noticed the screen sizing looked odd - as in looked stetched. I then jumped into the display settings and must have clicked on of the options which for some unknown (to me anyay) reason the screen just went blank. I then cannot do anything as I cant see anything. If I turn it off and turn it back on again then its all good as before untill I have logged in and it loads the desktop - then it goes blank again.
    Any ideas?

  • HELP! Two new HTC Thunderbolts & one screen has a purple tint!

So I just bought two HTC Thunderbolts, got them all set up and then realized that one has a purple tint!  I compared all the settings to the other phone and everything matched.
The color was like this before any 3rd party applications were downloaded & the phone is not rooted or altered in any way.
I've googled to try to find any calibration apps or if anyone else has this problem and have come out unsuccessful.  I know I can always perform a hard reset but wanted to see if there is any other alternate way to fix this issue.
Thanks in advance for any help!

Thanks for all the feed back!  Certainly is a strange issue for a brand new, out of the box phone.  I did in fact perform the master reset, went through the setup process, personalized the phone & long behold, the same issue.
Again, I compared the settings to the other Thunderbolt; Identical.  Tried different wallpapers, skins, themes and nothing has changed.
Went through and checked for SW update, there was a firmware update that I did start.  After it was completed, same issue.
I'm at a loss for what may be causing this.  I mean, it is bothersome that EVERYTHING on the screen has a purple tint...
I'm not 100% sure that this is a "warranty" issue?  Maybe it's something AraceliT_VZW can answer for me?
    Thanks for all the help!

It sounds like a bit of a mess and what you may need is an onsite PC tech to do some maintenance on your PC.
Also, learning to properly use punctuation (particularly periods) might not be a bad idea. As it is, your post was very hard to read.
    Good luck!

  • Powerbook G4 17 Fuzzy LCD/Purple tint?

    Hey all,
I recently picked up a used G4 17" Powerbook, 1.5 Ghz with a cracked display. I just replaced the LCD, and now I have video, but for lack of a better description, at native resolution (1440x900) all text is distorted - almost as if looking through a vertical 'window screen' like you'd have on your house windows. Dropping to any other resolution helps (it's readable) and the whole screen has a purple tint. (Not pink like a bad or failing backlight, but like a light lavender color overpowering everything.) - Knowing the LCD panel was new, I bought a new LVDS cable, but it didn't change anything.
Resetting the nvram and PRAM did nothing, and when hooked up to an external display the image and color is absolutely perfect. Did I get a bad replacement LCD?
    Thanks in advance all!

I did try calibrating the display with no change, and also replaced the LCD cable running from the logic board to the back of the LCD with zero change in the picture. Given the output on an external display is absolutely perfect, I'm at a loss to solve this issue. The only thing I can think of is that the new LCD is crap. And it is a brand new LG LP171W01 just like the original.

  • My iPad screen has a red tint

My iPad screen has a red tint, anything I can do to fix this?

I'm not the greatest when it comes to taking care of my iPad, that being said. I've dropped it a few times. I've had this issue, it can be easily fixed by holding down the home button and power button for at least 30sec. If this doesn't work then repeat. This has worked for me in the past and my iPad works just fine. By doing this your resetting the LCD. Hope this helps!
