LCD Brightness Toshiba Equium A100-147

I can't seem to set the brightness on my toshiba laptop.
$ xbacklight -set 00
$
Seems to pause for a while then returns a prompt as if it had completed but nothing changes.
$ toshset -lcd 50
required kernel toshiba support not enabled.
Self explanatory.
$ sudo setpci -v -s 00:02.1 F4.B=00
0000:00:02.1 @f4 0
This doesn't do anything either.
My current battery life is appalling. After a full charge and 35mins uptime I'm now on 43%. I have an xterm, google-chrome, X11 and fluxbox open. I've enabled most of the things in the laptop-mode daemon and another odd point if that my fan seems to be turning on at 46deg and off at 45deg. So all I can hear is fannnnnnn, offffffff, fannnnnnnn, offffffffff.
Weird.
Also, I'm using the xf86-video-intel-newest from the AUR.
Any help on any situation would be great. Thanks.

  • Toshiba equium a100-147- light turns on but nothing happens - HELP

My mum has a toshiba equium a100-147, and it doesn't appear to want to turn on.
The power light sometimes only comes on very dim when you pess the power button, other times it comes on bright.
I've tried unplugging the HDD and putting it back in, tried it with just one of the each sticks of ram in, checked that it's just a screen issue by plugging it into an external HDD, all with no luck. I did even unplug and plug the screen into the laptop itself just incase the cable came a bit loose.
Basically though, it does turn on, like the fans and the light comes on, but absolutely nothing else happens. The screen doesn't turn on at all.
    Anything I can do?

That doesn't appear to be a US model, and this is the forums for Toshiba USA. You may want to contact Toshiba in your region. If it's a European model, you could check the Toshiba Europe forums.

  • Equium A100-147 doesn't boot up - no display on screen

    Hi,
I have a Toshiba Equium A100-147. When I switch it on, I can see the LED's light up but there is no display on the screen.
I read on a previous thread on a similar model that this was fixed by resetting the computer.
I understand there is a possibilty that this is an issue with the motherboard, however I remain hopeful that a manual reset might work.
Can someone please tell me how this can be done??

    You could try this short and simple procedure;
    - remove the battery from the notebook
    - disconnect all external 3rd party devices and the AC adaptor
    - leave the notebook for about 20-30min
    - then connect battery and AC adaptor again
If the notebook will not power up after this procedure then your have a serious hardware issue and only the ASP could help you.
I dont want to make any statement about the possible faults because its always difficult to say whats wrong exactly but it looks a little bit like a mobo issue.
    Bye

  • Equium A100-147 - Native resolution on external LCD doesn't work

    Hi,
My Equium A100-147 has 1 VGA and 1 S-Video output, so I'm using the VGA output on a external LCD monitor with native resolution of 1680x1050@60hz, but the integrated Intel 945 graphics card doesnt give me the right resolution to choose for this monitor, the most close is 1600x1200 and some another weird widescreen resolutions that make my monitor scaling show a ugly image.
So I tested another external monitor with native resolution of 1920x1200, and the closest resolution the Intel drivers gave me was 1920x1080, even installing both monitors drivers, removing and reinstalling the driver and even formatting the machine and reinstalling everything from zero didn't give any different results.
I have another laptop MSI Wind with the same graphics card built in and the very same driver version, and the laptop detects both monitor and the right resolutions for them, so it's not a monitor driver problem.
Seems for me that is a problem with the S-Video output that makes this mess, but there is no way to disable it in the BIOS or any another place in device manager I have seem yet.
Does anyone can give me some advice for what can I do?
    Thank you!

actually the resolutions available to external monitors here on the intel control panel are
    800x600
    1024x768
    1280x1024
    1400x1050
    1600x1200
    1856x1392
    1920x1080
    1920x1440
    2048x1536
so it seems possible to use another widescreen resolution at least to match aspect ratio without matching the right resolution.
I've just hooked my 1080p hdtv via VGA and I'm able to use 1920x1080 16:9 aspect ratio
seeing this another resolutions that aren't on the manual, maybe its possible to make custom resolutions as well.
I've tried make a custom driver using the intel ones and power strip but without success because I don't know exactly the range of frequencies to setup the driver .inf

  • Equium A100-147 - Where to find LAN ethernet driver

    Hello All,
I am having problems to find the dirver for my ethernet controler...
I went to toshiba website and on the LAN driver is not completed, it only comes with any application to unistall, doesnt have to install, problably missing....
I could find on the web...
I manage to install the wirelles, so i can use the net through that.... but i want to install the LAN as well...
Does anyone knows where I can find the driver (LAN ethernet) Equium A100-147????*
    thank you very much...

    Hello
Ive checked Toshiba page and your notebook is supported for several operating system. Which one do you want to use?
Anyway, the driver is completed but you don't know how to install it. It is typical for LAN driver that there is no setu.exe file. Also do follow:
Download the right driver and expand it on the desktop
enter the device manager and open Ethernet properties
choose option to install driver and browse into downloaded folder
    Thats it!

  • Equium A100-147 Virtual Sound reinstall problem

I have read a few posts relating to the same problem I have, but with no definitive answer. I have the Equium A100-147 with Windows XP Media Center. I downloaded some up to date files from the Toshiba site (all for my model), including:
    acsil-xpmce-100008-en
    assist-xpmce-10300-en
    confree-xpmce-59007ab-en
    csutil-xpmce-7211006
    ctrls-xpmce-3221506-en
    display-xpmce-142004543
    fmd-xpmce-2004
    pcdt-xpmce-321u-en
    pwrsav-xpmce-70307i-en
    sdform-xpmce-2200-en
    sd-secure-xpmce-104-en
    sound-xpmce-51005253
    toupad-xpmce-10001st-en
and then: tvs-xpmce-10312-en (latest Virtual Sound driver for the A100-147)
I uninstalled the old version of the Virtual Sound driver before attempting to install the new one. But as I have seen elsewhere, I get the message:
"Toshiba Virtual Sound does not support your computer."
I have spent all afternoon looking up and trying to think of ways to fix this. I have since updated my BIOS (bios-550win). Not one thing I try will make it work. I have even deleted references to Virtual Sound in the registry in case there was any conflict going on. It has made no difference though.
Could someone from Toshiba please explain why I am being told that I cannot install what was working perfectly well until this morning, prior to these updates, which are all for my notebook model? It's ridiculous. Apologies for my tone, but having wasted hours on this, I am extremely frustrated and just want my laptop back the way it was (and before you ask, yes, I have tried a System Restore, but that does not work either).
    Thanks,
    Mac

I ran some report the other night... not sure if this gives a clue to anything:

  • Equium A100-147 - System slow and sound distorted

    Hi, Help needed.
I have the Equium A100-147, been working fine for a couple of year but in the last few weeks has ground practically to a halt, takes between 5-10 mins to startup and when starting and once started the sound is as if the memory is running slow (like distorted) this even at sign in when the windows tune plays.
Laptop has 2.5GB memory so should be plenty and 18GB free s not running low. Running XP SP2 MCE. Had zone alarm running, thinking this could be the problem have now switched to AVG, but still the same.
CPU in use when system idle, i.e. just started with no applications running fluctuates bbetween 25 and 55%
Any ideas on what it could be before I rebuild
    Thanks
    Gaffar

    Hi
I think this is a known problem of Windows that its getting slower after one year or two years ;)
I think you should try to defragment your HDD and to delete some programs that you dont need. Then clean your system using CCleaner.
Disable all programs in start up that you dont need.
Furthermore you should AntiVir. In my opinion its the best freeware antivirus program that you can have.
Last but not least you should try to update the sound driver. Check the Toshiba website for a newer version.

  • Equium A100-147 LAN (ethernet) driver cannot be installed

    Hi,
I have the same problem like in topic http://forums.computers.toshiba-europe.com/forums/thread.jspa?threadID=17316.
I downloaded and installed all of drivers what I needed, on my Equium A100-147, but Lan (ethernet) driver doesn't work.
I have windows XP, home edition, SP2.
I tried both type of drivers in Toshiba Download (and few others as well), which should work... but sadly, it's not working.
I would be glad, if someone could help me. Thanks anyway.
    Adam.

    Got it! :-)
Hehe, sorry for this. Last topic was very helpfull.
Anyway, if someone will have the same problem i got new drivers from:

  • Can not install Ethernet Driver on my Equium A100-147

I am trying to install my ethernet drivers and the drivers I got from the site, apart from not being able to access them on sunday they do not work, windows does not pick them up and there seems to be no install/setup file?
Please can someone help this is really annoying now...
    OS: Windows Media
    Wireless: Working
    Ethernet : Not working
    Help!

    Hi
It seems that the Equium A100-147 belongs to the PSAABE.
Please be sure that you have used and installed the right LAN driver for this series!!!
I think the notebook uses the Intel Ekron-R(82562GZ) Chip.
If you want you can download the Lan (Ethernet) driver from the Intel page.
    This will works for sure!!!

  • Equium-A100-147 - broken sound and video

    Hi everyone,
I have the Equium A100-147, Its been working fine for last couple of year.
But in the last few weeks has get problem in sound and video (broken sound and video).
The sound is breaking and sometimes uable to listen + video breaking and so much delay due to its get so slow with so much sound distorsion etc..
This remains after new installation (format HDD) of Wind XP unable to fix even installed new drivers.
The Device Manager shows all drivers including audio and video working ok, d'nt know what's problem please help me.
    Thanks.

    Hi
Something like that can happen during high HDD activity this means that the reading/writing process could affect the sound/video playback
But usually this should not take long time
At the other hand this can happen because of higher temperature
High temperature can affect the CPU and GPU performance
I think you have used this notebook for couple of month without any troubles in my opinion you should check if cooling modules and fans are clogged and could remove the dust and debris from cooling modules use compressed air spray this helps p get rid of dust
Maybe then the notebook will run much better

  • Does WiFi adapter supports WPA-PSK encryption on Equium A100-147?

I've decided to buy an Equium A100-147, but I'd like confirmation that the WiFi adapter supports WPA-PSK encryption. I can't find any confirmation anywhere. My guess is that it does, as it's a recent machine, but I'd like to be sure.
    Thanks once again.
    Doug

    Hi
Im not 100% sure what WLan card was installed on this unit but I think it could be a Intel Wireless 3945ABG card.
The Intel PRO/Wireless 3945ABG card supports WPA, WPA2, WPA-PSK encryption. I have found this info on the Intel site. You should also check it.
But as I said above, Im not 100% sure about the Wlan card. In my knowledge many notebook series are delivered with different hardware configuration. That means that different Wlan cards can be used in notebook.

  • Does my Equium A100-147 have an internal microphone?

    Hi,
I can hear others during a voice chat but no-one can hear me. I have tried using an external micrphone but nothing changed. I have gone through Control Panel and tested my microphone. A sound seems to play but I can't hear anything else.
    Please respond.
    Thanks
    Sashinath

    Hi sashinath
    Happy New Year
It seems the Equium A100-147 does not support the internal mic and therefore you have to connect the external microphone if you want to speak to everyone in the vice chat.
    You could use any microphone.
I use a skype for communicating and I have connected a headset. Its a headphone with the microphone.
After connecting of the external mic you should check the sound and audio options in the control panel and check if the mic was enabled.

  • Can I change graphic card on Equium A100-147

i recenty bought a Equium A100-147 notebook. its garphics card is very bad. i like to change it. can i upgrade my graphics card?? i will be grateful if u give me an advice.

  • Power consumption (Watt) of Equium A100-147

Would any one know what the wattage rating on the Equium Laptop is?
I want to buy an in car charger but there were two models in the shop one rated @ 70 Watts and the other rated @ 120 watts. Any ideas?
    Regards

    Hi
As far as I know the Equium A100-147 supports an 15V 6A 90W AC adaptor.
In my opinion if you want to buy a compatible car adapter you should look for the 15V - 6A compatibility!!!

Hello all, hope someone can help.
My A100-147 was supplied with XP as an OS. I've just done a clean install of Win7 Professional 32bit. All necessary system drivers were installed from disk during the installation with the exception of the Flash Media, as there was no Win 7 driver listed for it [here|http://www.toshiba.co.uk/innovation/download_drivers_bios.jsp?service=UK&mode=allMachi nes&action=search&teddProduct=695&selShortMod=476]
    I installed a Vista 32 bit driver 2.0.0.6-IEC (fmd-20070709130655) which works fine.
All good so far but my problem is I can't adjust the screen brightness and the Function buttons (Fn + F6 etc) don't work. I thought the Toshiba Value Added Package 1.2.40 would sort this but I get an error when I try to install it. Setup TVAP error. 0x8146045B I've also tried the older TVAP 1.2.28 but it also creates errors.
So any advice on how to get my Fn buttons working would be much appreciated.
    Thanks

Thanks Dr & Tom, some things to chew on alright!
I've seen but not tried to install the new version 6.0 bios, once upon a long ago I killed a desktop motherboard updating the bios so Its always been a last ditch option since then.
Regarding installing in the correct order.
The laptop came supplied with XP MCE and 1Gb RAM. Some years ago I replaced the HHD for a bigger/slightly faster unit and installed 2Gb RAM. I then carried out a fresh install of XP PRO SP3 and discovered as you suggest the system is fussy about which order thins are installed. It took me a couple of OS installs to figure it out and it ended up something like:
    OS
    Intel drivers
    Common module (Tosh power saver)
    Other utilities as required.
I built a new desktop to replace my aging XP unit at Christmas and installed Win7. I really like it and was considering buying a laptop with Win7 so I can use the Homegroup for file transfers etc. Then I thought I'd try installing Win7 on the A100 just to see how it runs and tbh it runs better than I ever thought it would. As its basically used for surfing and emailing its all the laptop I need, with Win7 on it its like a new machine ... well if only I could get the function buttons to work that is ... lol
Back to resolving the issue, I'm limited in the order I install drivers, the Win7 disk installed LAN WAN Graphics and sound drivers during installation, not much I can do about that!
I could try the bios update but for the reasons above I'm nervous about it, any horror stories or hints about carrying this out. Try that and then retry the VAPs or the Vista options. I forsee system restore taking a hammering!
    Any more suggestions welcome.
    Thanks
