LCD Darkness since Snow Leopard

Question

Folks,
Since the SL upgrade I've noticed that my monitor is significantly less bright.
Is there a correction?

But, one question. Why is 2.2 superior to 1.8?
It is superior only in the sense that, all other things being equal, it produces an image that is more closely matched to the brightness characteristics of the original for certain image types now in common use. IOW, it is not inherently superior, it is just a better fit for what has become a widely used method to encode brightness levels in many, but not all, images.
A consequence of this is that no one gamma setting will be optimal for all images without further correction. Apple's move to 2.2 was probably prompted largely by the increasing popularity of image sources that encode brightness information assuming uncorrected 2.2 (or actually a bit higher) gammas for output devices.
