LCD is black then changes to white.

I have an iBook g3 900mhz 14".
Symptoms:
1. Screen is black
2. If you leave it awhile it will start to turn white.
3. There are vertical lines and some spots while its turning from black to white.
Troubleshooting:
I have tried applying pressure to the GPU with no luck (shim trick) the laptop does boot up to an external monitor.
I have read that it could be the reed switch and the cables but i have not changed this yet.
Any tips will be helpful.

rey,
Well looking at that video that seems to be a loose connector on the back of the LCD. The back of the display will have to come off. You'll need a hex wrench and a black stick. I use a nylon propeller from the hobby shop. Did you email that guy?
Is $66 a good price to reball the GPU? Saw it on ebay
Is that that place in Ariz? I think that price is a reflow, ie the old solder is not cleaned off. I think his reballs are $80.
However I don't think that's your problem.
Your GPU is on the bottom of the logic board. Unless you can't get the video to normalize with pressure on the GPU then a reball is probably not going to help you.
If it's not this guys loose connection on the back of the LCD then it's a dead GPU. I have one that failed like that but it was an ATI 9200. I called it "spooky moving shadows".
I know about DT&T, which are the others you may suggest?
Just me but I'm not cheap.

  • Ipad screen is white. Restored it on iTunes. Press home and on switch goes black then back to white with no logo at all. Can't get past the white screen. This happened after running app updates. 16GB OS 7.1.1

The ipad screen is white. Holding buttons didn't work so I restored it on iTunes. When I press home and on switch, the screen is white,  goes black then back to white with no logo at all. Can't get past the white screen. This happened after running app updates. Is there any fix besides going to Apple store? In iTunes on computer can see what is on there. 16GB OS 7.1.1

    FORCE IPAD INTO RECOVERY MODE
    1. Turn off iPad
    2. Turn on computer and launch iTunes (make sure you have the latest version of iTune)
    3. Plug USB cable into computer's USB port
    4. Hold Home button down and plug the other end of cable into docking port.
DO NOT RELEASE BUTTON until you see picture of iTunes and plug
    5. Release Home button.
    ON COMPUTER
    6. iTunes has detected iPad in recovery mode. You must restore this iPad before it can be used with iTunes.
    7. Select "Restore iPad"...
    Note:
    1. Data will be lost if you do not have backup
    2. You must follow step 1 to step 4 VERY CLOSELY.
    3. Repeat the process if necessary.

  • Order black then trade for white?

    We're all thinking it..
Will we be able to have the black iPhone 4 shipped to us and then go to the store when the white is available, pay the 10% restocking fee and get the lovely white?
I have been planning on getting the white since day 1. Others' comments, concerns?

Yes, we ARE all thinking it. I assume, since we are not able to pre-order/reserve the white phone, we would have the option (as in my case) to opt for the white versus the black when I go to pick it up at the Apple store that morning.
I tried to do this last year, I reserved the 16GB and while standing in line decided I wanted the 32GB, but they wouldn't allow me to trade that day, said they only had the allotted about of "reserved" phones. I went back the next day and traded it out without any problems.
However, since you can't "reserve" the white phone this time around, I would think they would allow you to swap phones on the spot, the day of.

  • My screen is gray even after resetting. Then changes to white, is there any hope?

Just had my screen replaced, charged my i phone 4 and after unplugging the screen turned a faint gray. After resetting the i phone 4 several times the screen turns all white as if resetting and then back to gray. What should i do?

    Hello JosepiSantos,
Thanks for using Apple Support Communities.l
I'm sorry to hear about the issues your iPhone is experiencing after getting the screen replaced.  I'd like you to follow the troubleshooting below to try and help resolve the issue:
    Display shows a white screen
Try turning iPhone off and then on again.
If the iPhone will not turn off, try to reset it.
If that doesn't work, try restoring the device.
    Issue not resolved
My issue is still not resolved. What do I do next?

  • I dropped my iphone and when i picked it up it was working but as soon i got inside the house and turned it on, the screens lights up black then it goes completely white

he;lpp!! i dropped my iphone and face down on the screen andwhen i picked it up it was working and everything , when i got inside the house and checked it the screen goes black then it goes white and stays then shuts off and the same thing happens when you push the home button, plus im still able to recieve and get text messages i just cant see cause the screen.... help me like NOW !!!!!!!! haha i really dont wanna take it to a shop and pay money !!

You can try resetting it: Hold down the Home and Power buttons at the same time and continue to hold them down until the Apple appears (up to 30 seconds). If you are able to see the Apple, then the reset is in progress, and the Home screen will display shortly.
If you are not able to see the Apple, then you are going to need to make a trip to the Apple Store.
    Cheers,

  • My iPod has a white screen.  After holding down the middle and the menu button it goes black, then back white, and then beeps twice but stays white.  It never shows the apple logo, just stays white - help!

My iPod has a white screen.  After holding down the middle and menu button, the screen goes black then back to white and beeps twice.  I have returned to original settings and resorted content to no avail.  I still have a white screen.  I have plugged it up and tried resetting again and again, still a white screen with two beeps - help.

I have the same exact issue. Fifth generation iPod Nano, blank screen, Restore had no effect. I'm running Windows 7 Home, with all software up-to-date. I suspect hardware damage. Any clarification would be appreciated. Thank you in advance.

  • Is there a way to change the WHITE background color of the photo gallery/COLLECTIONS to BLACK.  IPad 4 ios 7

As a Professional Photographer, I chose to buy an IPad 4 for only one reason and that was the amazing color and clarity of the Photo Gallery as a mobile Portfolio.
Originally the background color of the IPad 4 Gallery was BLACK and this facilitated the photos greatly, photos look better and stand out better on a BLACK background. White backgrounds cause a glare eminating from the edges of the photo and cause iris in our eyes to close down, degrading the quality of the photo being viewed.
I updated to ios 7 and now my IPad 4 has a WHITE background, which is unacceptable for viewing photos.
HOW DO I CHANGE the WHITE background on the Photo/Gallery/COLLECTIONS to BLACK?
Apple should ALWAYS give USERS/OWNERS of their products control of such details. IT'S JUST GOOD CUSTOMER SERVICE!

Vancouver22  Thanks for your help... the SLIDESHOW turned black for me automatically when the slideshow began. That works most excellent!
Now if I can just get the White Background to STAY BLACK, this might not be as painful as I feared.
My IP4 does lag slightly, but not enough to set fire to it yet.
The gallery/COLLECTIONS/ALBUMS are the most important thing to me.
    Thanks!

  • Windows Boots to Black Screen w/Blinking white cursor, and then...

I installed a new OCZ sata II SSD in my iMac 27' mid-2010.  I bought the cables and pressure wall from an AASP, so it's all Apple in there except for the OCZ drive. The 2TB internal drive (factory) is in there, too.
Installed SL to the SSD and updated to 10.6.8 and man, does this machine fly now!
So I used Boot Camp to create a windows partition, 40GB on the SSD, then went through the WIndows 7 install process.  My WIndows disc is a retail copy - totally legit.
So the installer finishes, and I used the disc that came with the iMac to install the Boot Camp drivers (vs 3.1)
Then Windows restarts and - fail
Black screen with blinking white cursor.  Tried the command fixes to the MBR - no joy.
Here is the weird thing: if I put the Windows installer in the optical drive, then boot to the Startup Disk Manager (holding down option at power up) I can select the installer dvd, and when the prompt comes up "Press any key to boot from CD/DVD" if I just leave it for a moment, the operating system boots from the SSD.
Weird.  But, thats what I've been doing as a workaround.  That and using Fusion to reach over to the Boot Camp partition and run it as a virtual machine (which works just fine).
Anybody know how to fix this?
    Thanks!
    Jason

    I FOUND My answer.
I opened the iMac back up and swapped the SATA data cables so that the cable designated for the factory installed internal HD led to my self-installed SSD - now it works as it should.
No errors on the internal HD either.
I beleive that EFI looks for the Windows MBR to be on the 1st drive bay.  If I had modified my system by patching the MBR or EFI somehow I guess I could have got it to work, but as it is the cables reached and all is well.
As an aside, I came to this deduction when I removed the internal HD from the iMac and tried to boot from the SSD WIN7 partition and still could not.  Then I took the same SSD out and popped it into my MBPro and it worked.  My guess was that somehow the presence of another internal HD of any kind was confusing the boot loader, but I now believe it is the drive bay designation.
Hope this helps someone else who has added a SSD to their single drive iMac mid-2010

  • When I create an album and then try to watch it in slideshow, I get only a black screen with a white title.  No photos come up.  Also when I click on an individual photo in the album, I get a white exclamation point on a black background but no big photo.

When I create an album of photos and then open the album and try to watch it by selecting "slideshow" I get only a black screen.  The white title comes up briefly but then no photos, only a black screen.  Also when I go back to the album and click on a thumbnail, up comes a big white exclamation point on a black background instead of the enlarged photo.  Any idea what's going on?

The ! turns up when iPhoto loses the connection between the thumbnail in the iPhoto Window and the file it represents.
    Option 1
Back Up and try rebuild the library: hold down the command and option (or alt) keys while launching iPhoto. Use the resulting dialogue to rebuild. Choose to Rebuild iPhoto Library Database from automatic backup.
    If that fails:
    Option 2
Download iPhoto Library Manager and use its rebuild function. This will create a new library based on data in the albumdata.xml file. Not everything will be brought over - no slideshows, books or calendars, for instance - but it should get all your albums and keywords back.
Because this process creates an entirely new library and leaves your old one untouched, it is non-destructive, and if you're not happy with the results you can simply return to your old one. .

  • My imac starts with a white screen, then goes black and a small white line just blinks in the top left corner of the screen?

My imac starts with a white screen, then goes to black with a small white line blinking in the top left corner of the screen. Any ideas? Thanks.

Try starting your iMac with the original DVD that came with the machine then launch disk utility to repair your hard drive.

  • How can text - white over black be changed?

I was trying to set a preferences and don't know how/where I changed to white on black but this also screwed up my screen display.  All pix now appear as if negatives.

Go under settings, general, accessibility. In some iOS it's called 'invert colors' in others I think it's called white over black or something like that.

If you can't turn it off then let the battery fully drain. After charging for at least an hour try the article again.

  • In design view, how to change the white panel background so white text displays? (I keep having to go to Live view to see it)

When I'm adding white text it doesn't show up as the background input panel is white, and I keep having to go into Live view to see the paragraph spacings etc. Is there a way round this, other than changing the text colour in CSS to, for instance, black, and then changing it back before I upload the page?

Hi, and thanks, but it's my fault, I think I'm describing it wrong!
I've attached two screenshots from that area of the screen, one with the white text on the white background (showing as invisible) and the other where I've highlighted the text so you can see where it is. The background .jpg isn't a solid colour, it's a pattern, and if I added an equivalent pattern to the text area div, it wouldn't line up properly on all sreen resolutions, so that's why I gave that div a transparent background. When I go into Live view, the page displays perfectly, but in Design view I can't see to make amendments to the paragraphs etc.
