LCD monitor is grainy & red. please help!!

Hello!
I have a Macbook from Christmas '06. I recently upgraded to Snow Leopard.... I used to hook my computer up to my TV, but after upgrading it has grainy red lines in the dark areas of the screen. I just bought a new LCD/LED lit monitor and am having the same issue, if not worse. Every single resolution I've tried has these grainy red dots - sometimes lines on the lower res - and I cannot get rid of them, even after calibrating the settings. I even tried downloading switchResX with no luck.
Please, someone help me. I am sorry I am not well versed in tech terms - so the more basic instructions, the better. Thank you so much for reading!

You want to press the SHIFT, CONTROL and OPTION (also ALT) keys plus the POWER button.  The CONTROL and OPTION (alt) keys are next to each other.
Ciao.
It is also the Left SHIFT key.

Color don't work well in Mac book pro 13"  and monitor flash sometimes? Please help me!

Please describe the problem in as much relevant detail as possible. The "etrecheck" fad hasn't made that step any less necessary. The usual results of posting etrecheck output on this site without a full description of the problem are very poor.
The many "failed" warnings that etrecheck sometimes spews mean nothing. Those warnings are not a reason to reinstall the OS, or to do anything else at all. They should be ignored.
The better your description of the problem, the better the chance of a solution.
For example, if the computer is slow, which specific actions are slow? Is it slow all the time, or only sometimes? What changes did you make, if any, just before it became slow? Have you seen any alerts or error messages? Have you done anything to try to fix it? Most importantly, do you have a current backup of all data? If the answer to the last question is "no," back up now. Ask if you need guidance. Do nothing else until you have a backup.

    Hello, Righten.
Thank you for visiting Apple Support Communities.
I understand that you want to know if your MacBook Pro will support a 4k display.  Here is an article that will answer your question.

  • Monitor for Macbook Pro, Please help!!!

    Hey guys,
I have a middle 2009 Macbook Pro, and want to connect an external monitor as primary monitor. My budget is around 300-400, and hope to find a relatively perfect one in that price range. I'm really care about brightness, and don't like dim/dark ones. I mainly use the monitor to watch movies and play a few games. 27 inch would be perfect....well, if it has to be smaller.
if anyone is familiar with monitor, please help me out.
    I'm considering HP 2711X, Samsung P2770 HD.
    any suggestions would be appreciated!!

I am surprised no one asked you the following question regarding your response.
What if I don't what 2 displays and I only want to support the external monitor? Can I be in extended mode and have only 1 display?
The reason why I ask is because I am going to buy a dock for my MacBook (2012). The dock forces the MacBook to close thereby rendering the internal display useless.
I think what I am after is some sort of "extended to external" mode.

  • Mac Pro Crash in Boot Camp, Video Grainy Red/White - Help!

Hey ya'll. I've got an Intel Mac Pro 2006-07, I can get the specifics if need be, but here is my problem.
I was running it in boot camp windows xp 3, with I believe Starcraft 2 in the background. After leaving it on for awhile, I came back to it to find it on, but the display black. I restarted it and it began to boot xp, but the graphics were a little grainy with mild discoloration in the loading screen. After loading, it will not go to the login screen, or it won't be displayed. I managed to get it to boot up into safe mode, to a grainy desktop. I noticed when I turned it on, it didn't make as much noise as usual, it was fairly quiet.
After much trial and error, I've found I can get it to display the boot up prompt for my windows or mac partitions, but when I select mac, it will not get me to the login screen either. The resolution on the partition selection screen is set off to the side and is unsually poor, with a pinkish red and white grainy sets of lines all over the screen. Is this a graphics card issue? Is it even a hardware issue at all? Is it something I need to fix in safe mode of xp? It has been unusually hot the last few days, but I've ran my machine on a consistent basis for a number of years with no issue. Help!

Time to take it into an Apple store or repair station, especially since an Erase & Install causes a crash, but safe boot doesn't, which IIRC should be the same condition.

  • External Monitors...(PLEASE HELP)

Well my iBook G4's laptop is almost completely snapped off due to a terrible fall from my desk (it slid off and it was an accident). Anyways, I need to figure out a way to view the content of my HD and use my laptop. I have read about external monitors, but am not sure where to buy one that will definitely work.
Cheap is good...It just has to work! It doesn't have to be anything special either. I just need a way to plug it in to my iBook G4 laptop so I can use the mouse on my laptop and keyboard, but just instead of viewing it on the regular screen I will view it on the external monitor.
Any help is appreciated! Please reply ASAP as I need to use it for school and such!
    Thanks!

    Hi there!
If you have the original video adapter included with the iBook, that would be a first step.
"Video mirroring supports VGA video out to an external display or projector (requires incl-
uded Apple VGA Video Adapter) and S-video and composite video out to a TV or VCR
(requires optional Apple Video Adapter, sold separately)." - Apple Spec, iBook G4.
So, in theory or in fact with proper adapter(s) you could view the desktop on one or another
external display including a television. Not sure if simply restarting the computer, once the
second screen was attached, would allow you to see a desktop in "mirror" mode, or if there
is a keyboard combo or other means to switch over to be using that second display when
or if the primary one is disabled to the point of having no visual reference to run the second.
I know there was a reference to PowerBook models in the Support pages, where a certain
action or keyboard selection would switch between the built-in and external displays; but in
an iBook, that is not the case. Unless someone knows of a workaround for blind situations,
my input at this point is limited. Some of the software available to enhance the use of an
external display would be installed in a healthy computer to allow control over several other
models of displays and use marginally supported resolution ones with the iBook.
If you can get into the computer, SwitchResX may be of help. A basic VGA display, maybe
up to 15" or one that supports the resolution native to the built-in iBook's video card should
work. If you use a larger display, it may give you a small in-set view of your desktop, but
not necessarily in a full screen view because the video card in the iBook. And some displays
have settings, too, so there may be some view adjustments in the display's control panel.
If you had SwitchResX installed already, that may be of help in using marginal displays.
I have not tried it; but I have read about it and heard that it works well -- in some cases.
    About SwitchResX - http://www.madrau.com/html/SRX/About.html
From Apple Spec - iBook G4 (mid-2005) - Technical Specifications:
    http://support.apple.com/specs/ibook/iBookG4_Mid2005.html
    Display:
    * Support for millions of colors at 1024 x 768 pixel resolution
    * Support for resolution scaling to 800 x 600 pixel and 640 x 480 pixel resolution with millions of colors
    Graphics support:
    * ATI Mobility Radeon 9550 graphics processor with 32MB of dedicated video memory and AGP 4X support
This topic has been covered a few times in Apple Discussions, so maybe a search would
reveal some ideas; such as this thread: http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=943837&tstart=120
    Hopefully this helps!
PS: If that isn't workable for whatever reason, you may be able to access the hard disk drive
via a FireWire cable and get the computer to boot using FireWire Target Disk Mode, to view
and retrieve contents via another Macintosh computer which has FW ports. There is a page
in Apple Support about Using Firewire Target Disk Mode, or search those words.

  • Photos printing overly Red, please help!!!!!

    Hi,
I'm having a huge problem I have no idea how to fix. When I have a photo I print it looks good on the screen but the skin tones print very red when using either my Epson Picturemate or my Canon MP600. I got an idea and hit print preview today and guess what,....the print preview is so much more red than the original picture. I've posted a picture here:
    http://farm3.static.flickr.com/2279/20705091420fb8bf0c09o.png
If you look a the faces you can see what I am talking about. I have no idea how to fix this and am desperate for help. I read about colorsync and when I went into it and hit verify I got an error that the EW-SRGb was damaged and unfixable. I'm not sure if this is part of my problem or not.
I really need some guidance please!!!

    aubiem:
Not sure what the EW-sRGB is. What does EW stand for? There are a number of color RGB profiles but I've not seen that one. When did this start? What camera is it from and does it affect all of your photos? Is the photo you posted a scanned photo? If so what color profile does it have? If it's Adobe RGB I suggest you rescan to the sRGB profile.
    Do you Twango?
TIP: For insurance against the iPhoto database corruption that many users have experienced I recommend making a backup copy of the Library6.iPhoto database file and keep it current. If problems crop up where iPhoto suddenly can't see any photos or thinks there are no photos in the library, replacing the working Library6.iPhoto file with the backup will often get the library back. By keeping it current I mean backup after each import and/or any serious editing or work on books, slideshows, calendars, cards, etc. That insures that if a problem pops up and you do need to replace the database file, you'll retain all those efforts. It doesn't take long to make the backup and it's good insurance.
I've created an Automator workflow application (requires Tiger), iPhoto dB File Backup, that will copy the selected Library6.iPhoto file from your iPhoto Library folder to the Pictures folder, replacing any previous version of it. It's compatible with iPhoto 08 libraries and Leopard. iPhoto does not have to be closed to run the application, just idle. You can download it at Toad's Cellar. Be sure to read the Read Me pdf file.

  • I cannot get the audio to work using my new P221 HP monitor. Can someone please help me?

I wrote once before but I must have mislabeled my message.  Haven't been able to even find my question much less any replies.  I purchased an HP 221 Monitor with installed speakers,  I am a novice at computers and didn't really know what I would need to install the monitor.  I find that I can connect the VGA cable with no problem.  But th DVI-D cable cannot be installed on my computer due to no connection there.  My computer is an HP Model P 6600Z, desktop PC.  It is operating on windows 7 and browser is Internet Explorer.   I purchased an adapter with a female cable adapter to attach to the monitor cable and then I connected it to my PC using a the USB supplied with the
adapter.  It still doesn't work.  I guess I can install external speakers but the main reason I bought this monitor was becasue it has internal speakers.  Thanks.

I am sorry for the confusion.  The reason I asked about the speaker bar is that I can't find any information that shows built-in speakers on your monitor.  I have looked everywhere, including in the HP specifications.
Here is the Back I/O panel (Input / Output) for your computer:
    Figure 2: Back I/O panel
1 - Video Graphics Adapter port
    2 - USB 2.0: 4
    3 - RJ45 Network (LAN)
    4 - Audio: Line in
    5 - Audio: Front speaker/Line out
    6 - Audio: Microphone in
The way that I have always connected speakers is to the port labeled # 5 (Audio: Front speaker/Line Out).  This port allows sound to be sent to speakers.  The VGA port is for video only.  There is no audio capability.  The only connection that sends Audio and Video is the HDMI (High-Definition Multimedia Interface) connectors.
This is the type of connector that I would expect to see coming from your speakers:
The male one at the bottom of the picture.
Please check the monitor carefully to assure that there are actually speakers built-in.  I just don't want us to continue fighting a problem that doesn't exist.  There may have been some incorrect information in the advertisement that you read.

  • LCD issue in iphone 4g, please help

I bought new iphone 4g, and when i turned the phone for first time, i found vertical blue line in lcd from up to down. how i can fix it? im living in kuwait.please help

    Tamara wrote:
You may understand what he meant but the correct product name is iPhone 4 not iPhone 4G since the phone does not have 4G hardware in it.
I got ya...I use to call it the iphone 4G too because it was the 4 Generation iphone. But with all this 4G getting thrown around by the carriers I can see where it could be an issue calling the iphone4 an iphone 4G. Technically there isn't really any phone out there that has 4G technology in it, including the EVO from sprint. 4G is basically a marketing term. None of the current networks meet the official standards for 4G, only the HSPA+ which isn't technically built on 4G technology. You probably won't see TRUE 4G technology for a long time. I currently build cell towers and the technology isn't at the towers yet.

i bought a dr doc mini display port to hdmi cable and the hdmi cable
when i plug it all in it wont give me the option to use 1920 x 1080 resolution so the second monitor looks naff
i know the cable works as i tried a samsung 24 inch monitor and i know the lg monitor works in 1080 as ive tried it on my pc
my question is: is there a compatablity issue or a driver issue and is there a way round it
    many thanks

Are you using Extended Desktop or mirroring for the displays? Are you getting a Sys Prefs/Displays window on both displays when you go to Sys Prefs/Displays on the iMac?
Apple suggests that you connect and turn on the ext display before starting up your Mac so that it gets a good read from the ext display's information that it uses to identify itself to the iMac.
