LCD monitor won't display

My Rebel won't display the live view, when I click on the little camera button all I get is a clicking sound.

I never did figure it out. When I do like the Canon instruction book says, it doesn't work. I've just been using it in the histogram mode.

New Hyundai LCD monitor -dual input. Works fine with Windows XP, & with OS 10 but when I boot into OS9 the screen goes black, & the screen's menu button won't work. Have started os9 in safe mode but cannot find how to change the display/resolution/refresh settings. Where do I look to change these settings? And what settings should I try?

Have posted more on this in thread in "older hardware".

  • LG monitor won't display anything via VGA cable

After updating to Quicktime 7.5 my screen on my LG lcd monitor starting moving up and down when using my mouse. After fiddling with the display controls to lock it back down it no longer displays anything through the VGA cable connected via the DVI adaptor to the monitor.
I am using a borrowed DVI cable to use the monitor, but I have to return that tomorrow. Tried permissions without any luck. Is there any fix for this problem so I can reuse the VGA cable without having to buy a DVI cable. Also, is there any solution to the floating screen problem?

Thanks. That solved the zooming problem. The monitor will still not work with the VGA cable though. Looks like I'll have to get a DVI cable. I had one when I got the monitor but now I can't find it.

  • Monitor won't display after changing settings

I changed the settings on my Mac Pro and apparently they are not correct for that monitor. The display is blank and now I can't get anything to display in order to reset display settings.
How can I get it to display again?

Boot into Safe Mode, and reset your settings:

  • Imac 2006 monitor won't display properly

The left half of my monitor is fuzzy and black on my 2006 imac.   I have a cable to connect an external monitor.  How do I get the external monitor to work properly.   Right now when I plug in the external monitor, all I can see is when I move the mouse left to right (and off the imac monitor, it continues onto the external monitor.    I am a beginner with all this.

Open System Preferences, click on Display, click Detect Displays, select your external display, and check the box for Mirror the Internal Display.  That should make the external display what the internal display is supposed to show.
You might have to fiddle with Resolutions to get the external display to appear properly (if at all, because it is probably a bad logic board or graphic processor, which will make external display not work properly, and is a very expensive repair).
    Good luck.

  • VGA output signal is present but my VGA monitor won't display it --- why?

When I connect the iPad to a Samsung SyncMaster 570STFT display (with the Apple iPad Dock Connector to VGA Adapter) and try to play a movie, the audio plays and the image on the iPad is not updated (which I would expect, since it's supposed to be playing on the external VGA), but the monitor reports "Video mode not supported" (which is what it says when the display resolution is out of range).
I've verified that the monitor works fine at iPad resolution (by plugging it into a Mac Mini and confirming that it is operating at 1024x768).
Is there something unusual about the iPad's VGA output that is incompatible with some displays? Has anybody else run into this problem?

Scan rate and frame rate are different item. VGA is analogue and is based on CRT in which the electron gun scan the phosphors on the screen. Frame rate, as you seem to know, is how many screens there are per second.
If you look at the properties of your video what does it say. Does it play on your iPad?
The tech specs for the iPad say the following. Note that it says:
    "640 by 480 pixels" for MPEG-4
    TV and video
Support for 1024 by 768 pixels with Dock Connector to VGA Adapter; 576p and 480p with Apple Component AV Cable; 576i and 480i with Apple Composite AV Cable
H.264 video up to 720p, 30 frames per second, Main Profile level 3.1 with AAC-LC audio up to 160 Kbps per channel, 48kHz, stereo audio in .m4v, .mp4, and .mov file formats; MPEG-4 video, up to 2.5 Mbps, 640 by 480 pixels, 30 frames per second, Simple Profile with AAC-LC audio up to 160 Kbps, 48kHz, stereo audio in .m4v, .mp4, and .mov file formats; Motion JPEG (M-JPEG) up to 35 Mbps, 1280 by 720 pixels, 30 frames per second, audio in ulaw, PCM stereo audio in .avi file format

  • Preview monitor won't display preview

I cannot get my third monitor to show a preview in PP CC. The monitor works fine in FC7. In PP it's just black. Adobe has not been able to resolve it saying that it may be the video card. I got a response on my last post saying I needed to supply more info so I attached these screen shots. Any ideas?

I suggest that you figure out why it does not show up in the list of displays. Whatever is stopping that from happening is probably stopping Premiere Pro from seeing it.

  • Os x Mavericks - Activity Monitor won't display

after I upgraded my Mac Mini to Mavericks, I am unable to display the Activity Monitor.  I have run the disk utility to repair permissions, and I've verified the drive.   I've looked in the console for any error messages related to the launch of Activity Monitor and found none.  The top menu bar for the activity monitor appears, and I can select the pull-down menus.  My Macbook Air successfully upgraded to Mavericks, and the activity monitor works there.
Can anyone offer some help on this?  Thanks.

I've signed on with two different user id's and the activity monitor works perfectly.  It must be something in this particular user id.   Also, when I click on the Finder icon, the top bar greys out, but I can go to it and select "file - new finder window" and I get the finder window.  What should I look for?

Help please. Extended display won't work on MBP and AOC 20" 1600 x 900  60HZ monitor. Mirror display does. I've a mini dvd to vga converter cable. Should this work?

I have the same mini display port adapter and Belkin DVI-HDMI cable (but a Panasonic 42" Plasma HDTV) so just set this up on it to see if I could duplicate your problem, unfortunately for you (but good for me) I can't.
I connected the adapter+HDMI cable before switching the HDTV on and then powered up the MBP. It (the HDTV) came up with my background right away (it's set at Mirror not extended Desktop) and when I run System Preferences/Displays get the following. Sorry but all I can confirm is that adapter+cable combination should work ...
Try doing a Parameter RAM reset - hold down command/option/p/r keys at start up and wait for three chimes before releasing the keys?

  • I'm trying to set up a dual monitor for my new iMac. I'm using a second display I used with my old G5. My iMac recognizes the second monitor but the monitor won't turn on. Power button doesn't do anything on the monitor itself.

I'm trying to set up a dual monitor for my new iMac. I'm using a second display I used with my old G5. My iMac recognizes the second monitor but the monitor won't turn on. Power button doesn't do anything on the monitor itself.

If it won't turn on then the monitor is dead (power supply?, video circuits?).  Not worth repairing.
If you have a new iMac then it has thunderbolt.  So exactly what is that monitor you are trying to connect?  For TB you can connect a mini-displayport monitor.   Probably (not 100% sure with TB) can use dvi or vga too if you have the appropriate adapter.

  • A1081 Cinema Display LCD Monitor compatibility

I am about to buy a reconditioned A1081 Cinema Display LCD Monitor 20"? But i need to know if it will work with my MacBook Pro 10.5.8 and my ipad 2? As i am buying it to use at an exhibition. iIf so what adaptor will i need to hook both of these up? Thank you in advance.

Are you sure the monitor is set to receive input over the VGA input? Have you tried the DVI input on the monitor? You may have better luck with DVI.

  • External display HD LCD monitor vs HD LCD TV  ??

    Hello All
I'm needing to up-grade me second display and, have been shopping around.
In my shopping I'm getting mixed thoughts, I finding HD monitors and HD TV's so, I'm hoping somebody can point me in the right direction, I'm finding HD monitors in the area of $200. but, all the HD TV's $300. + , is there any real advantage of one over the other ?
I know just going with a standard LCD monitor would not be a good option, it's the HD monitors
that added to my future purchase confusion.
Thanks for any advice and or recommendations

They will probably both do as monitors. The Acer is a Computer Multisync Monitor, claiming to have a full resolution of 1920x1080. It is probably a progressive scan device, with some image processing on board, since they claim "Max. Refresh Rate 60Hz" on the Acer web site, so if you'll preview interlaced video on it, it may have the artifacts associated with standard poor or nonexistent de-interlacers. But it maybe o.k., specially if you are going to output most of your work for the internet, true Multisync Monitor maybe a good thing.
The Samsung is almost a TV set. It appears to be a 1680x1050 monitor. The bells and whistles appear to be associated with the HDTV tuner. As an ATSC tuner, it will have to tune the standard US ATSC channels and decode the standard 18 ATSC formats, including 640x480i30, 704x480i30/p24/p30/p60, 1280x720p24/p30/p60 to 1920x1080i30 and 1920x1080p24/ p30. But all this is converted into the monitor native 1680x1050xwhatever scan rate. From the HDMI inputs it will probably depend on drivers running on the graphics card on the MAC. Make sure that they have MAC drivers for this one, often they have just Windows drivers for these monitors.
I have a 26" Samsung, without the tuner and speakers, as my second monitor, to preview TV destined footage. It's resolution is 1920x1080, and it does an excellent job to show any artifacts that would show on TV.
I would recommend seeing the inputs before ordering the monitor on the WEB, because the most important characteristics are usually unavailable reading the specs. Also check about MAC driver availability.
    Best of luck.

  • Desktop not accepting HP-Display - Compaq WF1907 Wide LCD Monitor update

    All...
My desktop not accepting the HP-Display - Compaq WF1907 Wide LCD Monitor update.  I've tried many times since 1/10/2008.  Its really just annoying more than anything else.  Anyone know why I can't get this update into my computer.  I've never had any other problem with my Compaq-Presario GG060AA-ABA SR5127CL.  Maybe I should just count my blessings and overlook this anomaly.  Thanks.
P.S.  I just noticed that I put this message under the Notebook category.  Oh well, maybe someone can answer my question anyway.

Here's the basic steps , including checking the parameters.   My all time favorite,  using reverse logic (sometimes).

  • New monitor/calibration; now colors won't display correctly in ACR and Elements

Just got a new ASUS LCD monitor, and calibrated it with the Spyder 3 Express.
Now when I open a .CR2 file using Elements to edit the RAW image, the color is displayed as yellowy-gray and dull.  It looks the same when I pull it into Elements 7, unless I remove all color management (which, if I save the image, actually then renders the image colors neon and oversaturated with lots of pink and red tones).
I also use Lightroom 3 and I am having the same problem there.  Upon import of either an edited Jpeg or a .CR2 RAW file, the color in Lightroom is displayed as dull, grayish yellowy-green.
If I export and view the very same image in GIMP, Picasa or on the web, as long as the colorspace is intact (sRGB), the color is accurate.  Not so in Elements or Lightroom.
If you have experience with this problem is it the monitor, the calibration, or Elements and Lightroom.  I am beyond frustrated and need to see my colors properly.  I have not had this problem before.

I don't use Spyder to calibrate my monitor; instead, I use the software and tool that X-Rite makes and it came with my NEC wide-gamut monitor. I suspect that the tools are similar.
First, make certain that you're using your Spyder spectrometer and the accompanying software correctly. Although I consider myself relatively computer saavy, I find that I have to follow the instructions carefully.
Then, calibrate your monitor so that the colors and brightness the monitor displays are correct for your printer setup. In my case, the tool uses ICC color standards to set the colors. And, I tell it I want the monitor's brightness to be 90 candelas per square meter (cd/m2), which is about the same brightness as a blank white piece of photo paper. With the monitor brightness set at 90 cd/m2, I avoid getting prints that are too dark. If you calibrate the monitor correctly, the colors should look good and you should have a white that looks white and a black that looks black - that is, you shouldn't have any colors that don't look right.
Second, when you use Elements (PSE) or Lightroom (LR) to print, be sure to indicate that you want PSE or LR to control the colors and not the printer. It's very important, too, that you have the correct printer-paper profiles downloaded into the printer driver and that you select the correct paper profile. I have an Epson 3880 printer and I use Epson papers (mostly); so, I tell PSE to use the profile that fits the paper I'm using - for example, Epson Premium Glossy. When I downloaded the printer driver into my computer, it also downloaded the Epson paper-printer profiles and they appear in the print dialog boxes used during the printing process. (Other paper manufacturers, such as Ilford, make profiles available for downloading on their website.)
I hope this helps; if it doesn't let's go into some more.

  • PSE8 Organizer won't display on monitor

I have a really strange problem.  I have a new laptop running Windows 7.  I have a mouse, keyboard and monitor (among other things) attached to it via a port replicator so I can use the laptop as a desktop (whatever happened to good old docking stations?!?).  I have had all kinds of problems since installing PSE8, but this one baffels me.
When I start up the Organizer, either from a direct shortcut to PhotoshopElementsOrganizer.exe OR through the Welcome screen, Organizer starts (and appears in the task bar) but only displays on the laptop screen.  It won't display on my monitor.  Now it worked a couple of times but then stopped working.
I'm hoping there is a very simple solution!
    sue

Edit > Visibility was set to Show All Files.  In Preferences, I unchecked all filter selections for Auto Analyze.  No effect.
I have one folder with 3 .tiff files that PSE8 Organizer won't display.  Trying to import the files and PSE8 says they are there but PSE8 cannot display them.  No explanation.  Windows Photo Viewer and Picasa have no problem displaying them.
I have deleted and made new catalogs with the same results for that folder.  I cannot figure out what is wrong with these files.  All other applications have no problem.
    Any ideas?
    Thanks!
