LCD on HP logo on lid

thanks for answering, i have no idea what happened, one day it was working fine, the next it's not. the reason i like it is i know when i close the lid the computer goes to sleep when it turns off.what i have seen is a lot of people want to disconnect it because it drains the battery.

after updating to snow leopard i noticed sometimes when i close my computer it doesnt go to sleep the sleep light glows constantly bright and the apple loge periodically flashes on and off. has anyone else seen this why is it doing that

Something is causing it to wake again, run Utilities/Console and click 'All Messages' top left then next time look for the lines that appear after you give it the Sleep command to get an idea of what's waking it up - if you're not sure copy/Post the lines here.

  • Won't go to sleep when I close lid

I recently bought a Powerbook G4 Ti at a flea market with a broken screen that came with the replacement screen. I spent about 4 hours taking the powerbook lid apart and swapping out the screen (PAINFUL!) and after getting it all glued back together, there seems to be some problems with the lid-closed sensor. It doesn't seem to know when the lid is closed or opened because closing it doesn't put it to sleep and if I open it after sleeping and closing, it doesn't wake up. Does anyone know where the lid-closed sensor is on this model?

Hi, Beni_Rose. Sleep is activated by a tiny magnet attached to the back of the LCD panel. When the lid is closed, the magnet normally activates a magnetic switch in or under the trackpad or wrist rest, depending on the PB model. The following instructions pertain to most of the Tibooks: those with processors faster than 500MHz. If your Powerbook is the 400 or 500MHz model, post back for a different magnet location.
Using a small toy magnet or refrigerator magnet, hold it about 1.5 inches above the trackpad surface, over a point that is halfway between the center and the left edge of the trackpad and about an inch from the top edge of the trackpad. Slowly lower the magnet toward the trackpad until the Powerbook goes to sleep. If it does so, you'll know that the switch is functional, and in that case, the likelihood is that you didn't replace the magnet correctly (or at all) when you replaced your screen. Or possibly you used a screen from the 400 or 500MHz models, which have the magnet and switch in a different place. After what you've been through, I doubt that you'll consider it worthwhile to tear things apart again for the sake of getting the PB to sleep when you close it — it will be much simpler just to put it to sleep manually before closing it. The fact that it doesn't wake automatically when you open it is a blessing in disguise: it means the Powerbook can't wake up and cook itself to death inside your carrying case if the latch accidentally releases in there.

  • How to restore display on MacBook Pro to original settings after faulty external display connection

Rookie question, 2009 MacBook Pro.  We bought a dvi-VGA adapter to connect to an external display. Got a picture on the external monitor but very poor resolution.  Meanwhile the display on the MacBook Pro re-set itself and we were not able to restore it to normal even after we disconnected the external monitor.  We now have our MacBook Pro with messed up resolution and display, AND no external display.  How do we get the MacBook Pro back to its default display settings?  Any help greatly appreciated!

I would like to offer this solution.  I have a MacBook Pro with an external monitor, and, for a year and a half both displays slept when I closed the MBPS.  This behavior stopped when I installed Lion.  They would sleep when I removed the power cord, but what a pain that would be.  The command "pmset -g assertions" gave no indication of which process ought be preventing sleep.
I contacted Apple support, and after some searching, the guy working with me found this thread, which was flagged as an Apple-approved solution:

Here's the command to make your laptop behave like it did Pre-Lion (courtesy of my friend):
    sudo nvram boot-args="iog=0x0"
Works perfectly for me. If it screws up your system, just zap the PRAM next boot (cmd-opt-p-r) and you'll be back to the default Lion state. Or if you can still get into terminal, this command will get you back to Lion's default state as well:
    sudo nvram -d boot-args
    Enjoy!
One snag was that I had to run it with the external monitor disabled, but it worked great!

  • How to keep display on Macbook Pro instead of Clamshell Mode

I have an extended desktop through a Mini-Display Port-to-VGA connection from my Macbook Pro (OSX Mountain Lion) to an external monitor. I have the Macbook Pro screen set up as the "main screen" (with the display bar on top). But everytime I close my macbook pro, the computer goes into clamshell mode and sets the extended desktop as my "main screen" which switches my display bar. Is there anyway to tell OSX ML to always keep the Macbook Pro screen as the default and not go into clamshell mode?
This also creates a problem when I want to physically close my computer to allow to sleep, but instead goes into clamshell mode and extends the desktop to my external display. Any ideas?

  • Macbook pro w hdmi converter

Greetings, from the mini-plug to the hdmi output to my 55in 1080p LCD.
when i close the lid, it will goto sleep or shut-down. i want to be able to close the lid and have output to the big screen without using the mirroring option.
i would like to know where options to change the "lid closing" options so this can be changed to my preference.
    thanks all.

    Welcome to Apple Discussions
If you want to use an external screen with the lid closed (Clamshell Mode) then you need to add an external keyboard and mouse (can be wireless or wired) and then close the lid to put the MBP to sleep and wake it by touching the keyboard or moving the mouse.

  • Quicktime Visual Problem

I have an instructional CD that I bought and it works by using the GUI of QT...but for some odd reason when I play the CD, the controls on QT that let you pause, or shuttle through the video are not displayed...but yet they are there. It's a black bar where they should be...but if I click in the spot they should be in...it works.
    Examples:
If I play a movie, or use other products that make use of the qt GUI...I see this (http://i29.photobucket.com/albums/c289/Bmoner/bar.jpg)
When I watch a trailer online or view anything that accesses the GUI, i see this (http://i29.photobucket.com/albums/c289/Bmoner/nobar.jpg)
I know for a fact that it's supposed to be there too, because I've never had a problem until now. Does anyone know what MAY be wrong?

I suddenly had all sort of problems (before 10.4.9) with QT logo and Question Marks throughout all browsers and also suddenly unable to continue training programs using files such as "avibasicmono.htm" and "introbasicmono.htm" .
finally think I have solved the QT logo by replacing Flash 9.0 with the old 8.022.
I could now also see current issues of magazines again on a site www.picturebusiness.uk.com (weird naming).
however I am not able to see the training videos at all but I hear the AVI files

  • Bright spot on Lenovo G580(2689) screen

I have Lenovo G580(2689). It was bought about 8 months ago. recently i found that there is a small  bright spot at the lower righy part of the screen. What could be the reason and  How to get rid of that? I have 4 months warranty due. Plz help me.

    hi firozmkhatri,
Usually, bright spots on the LCD screen may have caused by a hard object pressing at the back part of the LCD screen (same thing when you press and hold on the lcd panel using your fingertip) or an object in between the LCD and keyboard when the lid is closed.
In some rare cases, it may have caused by a bright light concentrating on lcd panel (this could happen if you leave the unit open in front of a window where sunlight is concentrated) or it could also be that the screws are too tight on the LCD assembly that's causing the backlight to bleed.
Although you can still use the computer normally, the bright spot may increase overtime. I recommend you contact lenovo to report the issue and how to go about fixing the bright spots.
    Hope this helps.

  • No display backlight after startup?

This happened three weeks ago, and the guy at the Apple store told me that if this happened again to hold down one of the "F" keys (I believe) and something else to restore some kind of settings.
I should have listened; it was over my head.
Anyway, what happens is I turn on my MacBook Pro and the wheel lights up/blue screen works. Then when I get to the login screen, the backlight turns SO dim, it's basically black.
If I could only remember those keys he told me to hit...

    Hi eastalli.
I think you mean display reboot: option/command/eject.
Although this does not work on my MBP/ACD setup. I shine a bright light on the dark screen (or through Apple logo on lid), open System Prefs > Displays and adjust the brightness control, which has gone to near zero. Voila: bright screen ... till next wake from sleep.
Worth a try. Let me know what happens.
    Tim.

Those are no secrets, and many of them even outright printed in the phone's User Guide (or at least has been printed for some models), and all of them have been floating around on the web and discussion forums for at least 10 years now.
They've also been discussed/described on these forums many times over.
Some of them, like the voice codec selection codes, or the wallet code (Nokia removed the wallet app from their phones maybe 4-5 years ago) might have had an effect on phones made years ago, but are not really valid/relevant on todays networks and phones.

  • When did Apple switch to 'chome' Apple logo on Cinema/Studio LCD display?

    Hi all,
Just curious as to when (approximately) Apple switched from using the graphite colored Apple logos (front and back) to the 'chrome' or mirrored logos on the clear-enclosure LCD Cinema / Studio Displays? Did this change indicate any significant 'internal' product changes or was it purely cosmetic?
I'm only asking because I recently purchased a used 17" LCD Studio Display that only lasted 3 days before it suffered a backlight problem. I took it back to the store where I bought it and luckily they had another to exchange it with. The original 17" LCD I bought had the graphite Apple logos, but the exchange unit has the chrome logos.
    Thanks very much in advance.

Believed it was purely cosmetic to match the 23" HD version (which was the first to have the new look in 2002). The new look with the 17" occurred with release of the new 20" Cinema Display (January 2003). The 17" also received a price cut at that time. More info at EveryMac.

  • Disable LCD without closing lid?

As I use my Macbook as a desktop replacement, with external monitor and keyboard - I find it a bit of an annoyance to have to close the lid, wake the machine, then reopen the lid whenever I want to use the external display without the LCD active.
Is there a software/onscreen method that one can use to disable the LCD totally, rather than just turning the brightness down or going through the close/wake/open method? I know that older mac laptops have the option, but it appears to be missing in the display preferences of the macbook, and I can't seem to go through the right settings gymnastics to fudge together a solution.
It's made even more annoying by the fact that the ATI drivers that come with Boot Camp can allow windows to do this, but OS X can't.

try pressing the F7 key on your macbook keyboard a number of times. (not an attached usb keyboard)
    edit:
i think this only changes between mirror and extended desktop. i'll check in the office tomorrow, but I am sure this can be done without closing the lid 'cause thats how i worked the first few days (now i extend desktop to both screens, and leave email open on macbook screen - kind of handy, you should try it)

  • Lid close = LCD with no signal

Hey guys, I hope someone can help me with this problem,
I have a 2 Macbooks Air 11'' , one from mid 2011 and the other from mid 2013. Before I had the mid 2013 Macbook Air I worked with the other Macbook plugged and connected with a Mini DisplayPorto to VGA Adapter to a LCD monitor, a Apple Wireless Keyboard and a Magic Mouse. I was also using a BookArc wich means the lid was closed. It worked and still works very well with any of the 2 LCD monitors I have.
With the Macbook Air from mid 2013 it's a diffente story, I can connect to any of the LCD monitors, it displays the image, but when I close the lid the signal that LCD receves is lost. My first thought was that the Macbook Air was in sleep mode, but if I open the text editor and start typing anything in the Wireless Keyboard and with the lid still closed it is detected by the Macbook Air.
Anyone have a clue what the problem can be?
    Thanks for the help

Probably it's an issue with HDCP. What OS are you running?

No. We can't help you. Apple does not sell iPhone parts. The only sources for iPhone parts are:
    a) counterfeit parts
    b) stolen parts
    c) parts salvaged from other phones.
In addition, the iPhone is not user servicable. Apple won't touch that phone any more.
Find a competent 3rd party repair shop or buy a new phone.
