LCD replacement compatibility

Howdy: I am about to replace the LCD in my PB 12" G4 DVI. Can I use the LCD from an iBook? Is there a range of LCD screens that will be compatible with the PB? The two computers have different part numbers for the display, but my hunch is that the LCD itself will be comprable and could work... anyone know different?
Thanks,
Nate

I've heard you can, but can't confirm that. (Using an iBook's screen with the 12-inch PowerBook of same size). They both have different part #'s which lead me to believe, personally, that you can't.
But, these people, very reputable, say you can. Just make sure you don't get them off of eBay because they'll say they are, but really aren't.
Here's the reputable folks:

  • Compatible LCD replacement?

    Hey everyone,
I'm a little new to this as this is the first real incident I've had with my mac that I haven't been able to get assistance with directly from Apple. (If it was a PC I wouldn't waste my time but it still works perfectly) My LCD cracked when my friend's dog knocked it off of an end table. The original LCD in it is a Samsung LTN154X7. I checked some websites and have found a few videos showing how to replace it yourself because I've heard Apple charges quite a bit for an LCD replacement. If I wanted to pay that much I'd just go get a new Macbook. Local repair shops quoted it at about $600-$800 (which once again, being a college student, I don't have the cash to pay that much for something that doesn't look that difficult.) Anyway, my main question is this: a lot of sites advertise a much lower price for a "Compatible" screen but any reviews I've read state that most people do not want a compatible screen. Does anyone know if the "compatible" screens are that much different than the original Samsung? I'd like a screen that is pretty much the same quality as the one I had/have. Also, I've noticed there are a few different versions of the LTN154X7, such as the LTN154X7-L02 and L03. Does anyone know what the difference is between the original and the L02 or L03? Anything I've read says that its just differentiating between glossy and matte (my original is a matte, which I prefer to glossy screens). I just don't want to purchase the L03 because it says matte and then have it not be compatible because my terminal only says LTN154X7. These may be really silly questions, but I want to make an informed purchase so that I don't tear my Macbook apart and end up wasting my efforts to find out that the screen I purchased is of horrible quality or doesn't connect right. If anyone has any expertise on this subject, I'd greatly appreciate it. Also, If anyone knows of any trusted sites that have good deals on replacement LCD screens, suggestions are welcome!
    Thanks!
(and yes, I know I need to update my OS, that will be my next purchase.)

My LCD cracked when *my friend's dog* knocked it off of an end table.
My only advice to you is to either get your friend to pay for the damages or make a claim with your homeowners carrier if the accident happened at your home. If your friends home, make a claim under your friends homeowners carrier.

  • Need instructions for 17" LCD replacement...

Need instructions for the original (non-ALS) 17" LCD replacement...
Ive replaced everything else, time to replace the LCD, but need the procedure to do it.
    Thanks

Before you do surgery on your imac, go to applications, system preferences, displays, and see if you can adjust the brightness. My screen was significantly darker after I upgraded to 10.4.3 and I was able bring it back to life. For some reason the upgrade caused the brightness button to regress to 0 on a scale of one to ten- hope this works for you

  • A lot of users with white screen after lcd replacement!

    Hello!
So i have a macbook air with a broken hinge.. replaced the screen assembly as in the guide on ifixit. All ok, but after replacement the screen is white with light vertical stripes. Now i have done some research and found out there are a lot of users with the exact same problem but none with a solution.
I think the reason why the screen turns white (most of the times) is because of the lcd modelnr en most importantly versionNr! The lcd model of the macbook air original is: B133EW03 but there are 4 versions of this screen: 0,1,2 and 3 respectively. In this link (page 3)http://www.ttsystem.ru/data/B133EW03_V1_Others_0204.pdf you see V1 is an upgrade of V0, in the way that the EDID codes have changes and so the OS has to send different codes to the lcd for it to 'understand'. I couldn't find the exact changes in V2 and V3 but i'm guessing it could be similar.
So my question is could this be possible?? is it possible or does anyone know you need the exact same lcd screen (model en version) when you replace your lcd screen?
Another very strange thing is that my macbook air shows some discrepancies:
The bottom case of my macbook air says A1304 and the serialNr off course. But the motherboard shows the A1237 model..Step 14! (In this ifixit guide http://www.ifixit.com/Guide/Installing-MacBook-Air-Models-A1237-and-A1304-Displa y-Assembly/855/1
Also OSX gives me the data:
    MacbookAir 1,1
    1,8ghz core 2 duo 64gb ssd (which isn't a a1304 model..)
    but the same SerialNr!
When i check the specs online using the serialNr i can see it's made in week 50 of 2008.. in my opinion it's impossible it's a a1237, because apple introduced the a1304 in october 2008..

I had the same problem with the LCD after replacing hinges and could not figure this out.
To solve the issue, I bought another A1237 of eBay that apparently had no HD/SSD, but it arrived with a swollen battery.  I removed the bad battery and replaced and moved SSD over and "Voila"...it amazingly light up...........

  • QUICK ANSWER.Apple iPod touch 2nd gen. Digitizer and LCD replacement help.

    Hi,
I bought a digitizer from amazon and a LCD from there. And I got them today. When I installed my LCD I got a white screen, but restored ( I didn't have my digitizer on) so I tried to touch my LCD when it said slide to unlock, but nothing unresponsive and it still is. I put my digitizer on but I only had one screw that holding down the battery. And i connected it and nothing. Took it out, now I googled why it dos t work and it said "logic board" how do I know if it's broke. iPod touch 2nd gen 8gb

LCD stands for Liqued Crystal Display and isn't the problem.
the digitizor has a meaning in which i just forgot and
why in the world are YOU replacing the stuff???
    hope i helped?!

  • LCD inverter compatibility

    Hello all,
I want to replace the LCD inverter of my laptop HP G61 420SL and I wanted to ask if I can use an inverter board of another
HP G61 laptop. Are all G61 models compatible with each other regarding inverter boards?
    thank you

I think that is a serial number so no two will be alike. As long as the inverters are phycically the same, and REO is saying all G61s that have an inverter use the same one, you will be OK.

  • Hp 2000-425NR lcd replacement info needed

    Hi,
I would like to replace my cracked LCD panel on my recently purchased 2000-425NR (not covered).  I found online videos for removal/replacment for other models in the HP Services Media Library (eg. dv7-1000).  Can someone help me find the online video which would be closest to my model?
    thanks!

Here are a couple of tips for disassembling notebook PCs.
I use a plastic tray with dividers to organize and prevent the loss of  the screws that are removed.  I use mobile (cell)  phone spudger tools to prevent breakage of the plastic parts instead of an exacto knife. This is also a bit safer for your fingers.

  • Internal HD replacement compatibility problem?

I need to replace the internal hard drive in my mid-2009 13" MacBook Pro.  I've tried a Seagate 750GB Momentus drive (ST9750420AS) and it spins up but does not show up in the disk utility or system profiler (I'm booting from an external drive in the meantime).   The old drive (a Toshiba 500GB) shows up fine so I don't think there's anything wrong with the connection or interface.   I'm wondering if there might be a compatibility issue due to the new drive using "Advanced Format" 4096-byte sectors rather than the old standard 512 byte?     Anyone know if this is a problem?   I'm still on OSX 10.6.8 - would updating the OS solve this?   Any advice gratefully received.

Your Toshiba 500 GB HDD boots the MBP.  The other HDDs are not recognized.  Changing the OS will have no impact in your situation.
    Have you tried different cables?
Have you tried all USB ports?
Have you swapped the Toshiba in the enclosures the you have tried with the other HDDs?
    Ciao.

  • Nokia 5610 reprogram or lcd replacement

I have a nokia 5610.when i was transferring songs from computer using usb cable it suddenly turned off. I tried to turn it on but the only thing that appear is the "holding hands" and the welcome note, then it starts to turn on and off with white display. I tried to take off the battery for a while, take the memmory card and the sim card out.but nothing has changed. The nokia care center told me that it has to be reprogrammed. but when i was about to claim the phone, they said that the LCD must be replaced. I also want to know the factors that might need the change of LCD.

Well, I think you won't get a second opinion from this forum for that's a hardware problem & only an authorized Service Centre can give. It(defective LCD circuits) might be the cause of hanging! Usualy, problem like that can be rectified by reflashing the firmware, but maybe your's was an isolated case.

  • Apple 22" Display (Clear Acrylic Bezel)-LCD Replacement?

Did a real stupid thing and impaled my display on a Sharpie highlighter... don't ask.
Is there anyway to replace the LCD panel on these older displays? I sprung some coin for a new HP w2207h and am just not sure this is the right monitor for me. I had the Apple Display calibrated and working just beautifully. Now I have to go through the tweaking process all over again.
Any help on this would be greatly appreciated!!

That LCD panel has not been produced by LG for years and years. You would have to find a service or repair facility that had one as NOS (new old stock) which could take a lot of searching. Likely it would be easier to find someone selling the same monitor used than finding a replacement panel. And it would probably be cheaper, too.

  • My third Macbook Retina LCD replacements in less than a month

I guess the tittle says it all. A month ago I noticed there was a small white dot on the right bottom corner so I brought it to store to have my LCD screen replaced. When I came home I notice my LCD screen is yellow when I compared to my MacBook Pro 17. Needless to say I went to the store to have my LCD screen replaced because of the yellow tint. So now it is officially my third LCD screen replacements and I'm still seeing the yellow hue (tint) on my screen. Is it a new Apple standard? Because Apple Genius told me they like the screen on the left side better (yellow hue) than the right side (day light color). Please advise me what to do at this point. I have one month left before my AppleCare warranty is expired. Apple Genius told me that this is the last time they would replace my screen and they knew it is going to yellow tint again. So far I spoke to Apple Senior Advisor (over the phone) and Apple Genius (in store) and they said there is nothing wrong with the screen and there is no way they will replace my MacBook.
What would you do if you were in my situation? Thank you for your advice!
At this moment my MacBook LCD screen manufacturer is Samsung (LSN154YL01001)
rMBP is on the left and MBP 17 is on the right.

Same problem. Bought the Retina MacBook Pro in 2012. Got a nice bluish screen but with stuck white pixels in the lower-right corner. Got the screen replaced and the replacement screen is greenish-yellow like yours. The model number is LSN154YL01001.
This is not the first screen I got from Apple that's green. My iPhone 4S had a green screen. I replaced it and got another green screen. My iPad 4 had a green screen and I returned it. Now I'm stuck because I can't just return this Retina MacBook Pro that I bought last year. If I bring it in to the Genius Bar and tell them the screen is green they will either say it looks normal or it's not defective. Calibrating the screen via System Preferences > Color doesn't help. Usually looks worse.
So are these screens defective or by design? I really don't know. I've seen blue iPhone 4S and I've seen green iPhone 4S. I've seen blue iPad 3s and I've seen redish iPad 3s. We've both had blue Retina MacBook Pros and now we have green Retina MacBook Pros.
If it had come initially with the greenish-yellow screen I would have returned it but now I'm stuck with a screen that looks like it has green slime all over it.
