LCD Screen care

I have not owned a LCD before and was wondering if anyone had any care-taking tips.
Will having the screen set to maximum brightness effect the display over-time?
-What is a respectable time to have the display go to sleep? Will having it turn on and off effect it's longevity?
Any tips are appreciated! Thanks

if you keep it at high all the time, the onl effect is you will shorten the life of the back light. Sleep time is pretty much a user preference since display burn in is not much of an issue with lcd displays. I would assume that constantly turning on and off the back light could affect it's life, but under normal use it shouldn't cause a problem.
The only other tip I can think of, is do not clean it with anything containing alcohol. The best bet is to clean it with a damp lint free cloth or with a specila monitor cloth.

  • IPod Nano LCD screen cracking/scratching

i am a possible, going to be nano buyer and i was wondering if anyone who is a owner has had problems with the screen cracking and/or scratching. Also this is a question for owners with the problem and APPLE if the screen gets cracked or overally scratched withing warranty will apple replace it with a new one? also for people in singapore is there anywhere that i can get a 4GB nano, as most places have said they dont have them. thank you
      Windows XP

The screen scratching issue is really going to depend on just how badly you treat the device. I don't know how the screens are getting so badly scratched, and in normal use I can't see anything other than normal wear and tear. My 3G iPod is the same - a few scuffs and scratches, but nothing to stop it working.
If on the other hand you place the nano into your pocket without a protective case, keep change and car keys in the same pocket, then yes, it WILL get scratched. If you drop it or drag it over rough surfaces, if you take a sharp implement to it, if you use abrasive cleaners on it... and probably loads of other 'ifs', you'll get scratches on it.
They are not indestructible and the LCD screen is not harder than diamond. Take care of your Nano and you should be fine.
Taking it back with scratches through normal wear and tear, or through poor care, will not get you a replacement. You would have to show that it was an actual fault with the Nano itself, and I get the distinct feeling most are fine
As for purchasing a 4GB model, have you tried the online Apple store?

  • Dead LCD screen

I have a HP G72 laptop, 17.3 inch screen. Display went dead after 3 months. It started flickering and went completely white. I noticed a spot on lower left side appear in the display. Sent the unit for repair to HP, and they returned it back claiming that this is a user damage. After pushing on the bezel, the LCD started working, except there was a line of dead pixel. Now two months later, it went completely dead. I am positive that the LCD cable from display to MB is bad based on the way it died.
Called HP again, and they refused to even look at it. Asked me to pay $400 for repair. This is pathetic. Even their own tech over the phone said the spot is due to LCD ink spill, and not something external, yet refuse to honor their warranty.
Where is HP care, or should it be HP Don't give a **bleep**!
I am really disappointed with HP. Their support people think, the 5 minutes their tech spent to look at the system are words in stone worth lot more than my hard earned $600.
If anyone from HP actually read this forum, need help to escalate this issue, so it can be fixed. Laptop is only 6 months old.

I remember one of your posts couple of months ago which said your daughter wiped LCD screen with moist tissue. Any user damage is not covered by warranty provided by HP.

  • Help! Broke Iphone LCD screen! How much?

I broke my LCD screen on my Iphone 6 I don't have Apple Care, how much will it cost to fix by apple? Will they replace it, or fix it?

  • Poor quality glossy LCD screen

I'm really disappointed by the quality of the glossy LCD screen on my MacBook Pro. I have at least 15 grey 'dots' (the Genius at the Genius Bar said they're not really pixels since they're not completely square in shape), one clearly dead pixel, and I also have things that look like dust particles (like Kleenex lint) that's trapped in the LCD, about five particles clustered on the right edge of the screen. And it's just about a month since I bought it.
It just bugs me that they have such poor QC. The Genius advised me to call Apple Care since I purchased the laptop online. Hopefully they can do something about it.

I'm not aware of anything in the Hardware Profiler that will tell you which display you have. If you can see reflections on the screen (they are particularly visible if the display is showing something dark and there's something light behind you) then the screen is glossy. A matte display is like frosted glass so it won't show any clear reflections on it.

I recently bought a laptop in one day, and then I found a white spot on lcd screen.
Given these conditions if I could get a replacement with a new laptop?
Or do I just get a replacement just in the troubled lcd and how long the problem can be solved?
Please help to related parties to help the handling of the issues mentioned above.

    Ardha,
Welcome to the forum.  White spots on the LCD, typically a bright white spot most clearly seen against a white background like the forum, or google home page, is caused by pressure damage - pressure applied to back of the LCD panel.
Since you indicated that you have only had the system 1 day, unless you are aware of something that happened while in your care, I can only guess that the damage was done during transport or manufacturing.  I would recommend you contact your point of purchase and ask to exchange the unit.  I would also try to power up and inspect the new system immediately to make sure all is well.
Please also see my PM - I would like you to take a pic of the spot and email to me if possible.  While random things happen, I'd like us to take a look at this.
    Best regards,

  • N95 8GB LCD Screen.

    Hello,
I have an N95 8GB with a cracked LCD screen. Just wondering where is the best place to purchase another screen? I've noticed them on E-bay around £30. Would I be able to purchase one through Nokia? That way I know it wouldn't be a fake.
    Cheers Tom.

Trying to change the screen yourself is likely to cause more damage unless you are certain that you know what you are doing. We cannot help you here with self repairs as it's against the rules.
A nokia care point can supply and fit a new screen for you without any risk. Give your nearest one a call to find out the price as it differs greatly between countries.

  • LCD screen 6600 slide

i was wondering if someone could help me i have had my 6600 slide for 2 months and i just got a new lcd screen put in and i have had it back 3 days and it has gone again. is anyone else having this problem?
    thanks

I am having the same problems with my 6600 slide, which I got in early November - it started with the bright light going out when it's closed, then it stopped being bright when it's open or closed. I've powered off, removed the battery and now I occasionally get a black screen, or reversed colors. Sometimes I get fuzzy psychodelic colors and some times the screensaver image shows up partially below and above or the image shifts, as if its on a slideshow, stuck repeating itself halfway.
I'm going to send mine to Asia's customer care, because I purchased in Hong Kong and when I had called USA tech support, they do not support Asia purchased mobiles. Regardless, this is the same company worldwide and an Asia or US warranty should be covered worldwide. Are you telling me that I need a new LCD screen? So is that under warranty since my phone is only 4 months old!
I'm ready to purchase a new phone.

  • Simulating a CONTRAST changer on LCD screen

    Hi All / KGLAD... :-)
I am making a simulator for an LCD screen and have the contrast changing with "btn_down" properly. I have an up button - "btn_up" that i would like to be able to control the contrast in the opposite direction, keeping track of the current color in the Array and moving back. I tried changing the code to increment negatively through the Array but something is screwy... It doesnt like the multiple duplicate values that i have and only works when "btn_down" has initially moved the array...
    any suggestions??

  • Mark (stain) on LCD screen + Flickering

I have an Imac Late 2009. I have 2 problems since one month:
_1 My lcd screen has a stain (mark) on the upper right zone getting bigger and bigger.
_2 My screen started to flicker randomly. It is not the whole screen but just the left part.
Both problems appeared shortly after installing Lion.
I don't have apple care. What should I do?
    Thanks.

    1. Can you post a screen shot or camera pic? There have been heat related streaks on some iMacs.
    2. If it is just one part of the screen it sounds like a backlight problem. There are lamps behind the LCD, and either one of them is failing or part of the power inverter that runs them is failing. You need to take it in for an estimate. You can use this http://www.apple.com/buy/locator/service/ to find the closest place, either an Apple Store or an authorized service provider. But be prepared, it will not be cheap if it is a lamp or inverter.

  • 6275i CDMA LCD Screen...

    Heylas all.
I have a 6275i on a Cricket service (a CDMA service, not GSM), and I just spiderwebbed the entire LCD screen.
So, I'm on eBay looking for a new LCD screen, but - most of the suppliers have in the description of the product, "GSM ONLY - NOT FOR CDMA". The ones that don't say that don't say anything and are from Hong Kong.
I'm curious to find out, what is the difference in LCD screen in GSM and CDMA 6275i phones?
    Is there a difference?

  • LCD Screen Bus

Yo, got a new zen touch I ain't even had 2 whole weeks and yesterday I had it in my backpack in it's case (where I always keep it) and when I pulled it out, the screen was DEAD in the upper right hand corner, it looked like broken glass or something, the music still plays and the player is fully functional, but the screen is **bleep**ED!
Now after spending 28 on this product I'd expect it to hold itself together a lot longer than 2 weeks.
    What's the cause of this?
Was the LCD screen not put together very well on the zen touch 40?
I mean **bleep** I took great care of this player.
And how do I go about getting warranty service?

No Leopard Assist lies to the installer so that it will install on a slower Mac then what Apple recommends.
YMMV as to how your G4 will handle Leopard. A lot depends on the workload you are putting on your Mac.
I have seen some 800 MHz G4 Mac handle it very well and other not so good.
