Lcd screen keeping 'dimming'

I'm sure there is an easy fix for this.
I notice if i haven't used my computer for several minutes, the screen dims, and then quickly brightens againa as soon as i touch the trackpad or any keyboard button.
I have gone into the options listed under the battery icon. I have tried to set it to best performance, it still seems to occur, i have gone into custom and and energy saver and set the sliders for putting the screen and computer to sleep for both the battery and the power adapter to 15 minutes. I have locked the settings.
It still seems to occur.
Peculularly, i often go back into this area, and the lock is UNlocked again, without me entering my password.
Is the screen supposed to dim? I find it annoying and would like to turn it off.

I can understand your frustration with this, and with some of the responses...
Check out that link in this thread, I have outlined "improvements" to the situation in the last post.
There is no official solution, and apple did not address my question during my last repair.
I will be setting up another pro care session within the next month and will try to reproduce this for them.
Supposedly this has been going on since the Powerbook Era, and is nothing new. Unfortunately I've only noticed it with the MacBook Pro, and never with my powerbook.
Keep an eye out, and eventually we will find the source of the problem.
Now here's the REAL question:
Does anyone know if there is a log (say in console) of when/why/how the screen dims, much like there is a log of system sleeps???
I think that will answer our question, and find the source of our dimming despite all the appropriate settings UNCHECKED!

My ipad screen keeps dimming and has ghost images of the previous open app. Can this be fixed? Help.

Did you ever resolve this issue?  I have an iPad with a similar problem.  After a software update the screen went very dim.  I have just finished trying to restore the iPad to the latest iOS 8.1.3.  The display is still very dim.  The backlight does change when you adjust the brightness slider but at maximum brightness it is just barely possible to see what is on the screen.  What makes me think this is software related is, like you said, there are remnants of previous screen images overlaying the current screen.  For example, when I restored the ipod, I enter DFU mode so the screen showed the "Connect to iTunes" images.  After restoring and rebooting there is not change but the "Connect to iTunes" images are still showing up on top of the normal screens.  Even if I power off the iPad and turn it back on that image still appears as if it is permanently burned into the LCD.  There are more previous screen images appearing underneath the current screen as well (e.g., I can see the System Settings window faintly under whatever screen I'm currently on).  Would like to know if your problem required a new logic board, new LCD, or if you were able to resolve it with software tricks.  Please respond if possible.

  • Why does my screen keep dimming and brightening?

I'm just sitting here in front of my fire during a mid-March snow storm in Maine, and my screen keeps dimming and then brightening.  It's getting quite annoying. What is going on?

OK, I figured it out - it's the auto brightness adjustment. Found the answer in the pane to the right of my comment.

  • My screen keeps dimming automatically

My brand new Macbook Pro's screen keeps dimming the screen all the time regardless of which setting is it on. Its the first time it does that today and it's so annoying!!!! I have the following options: Put the hard disks to sleep when possible, slightly dim the display when using this power source, automatically reduce brightness before display goes to sleep and restart automatically if the computer freezes.... The only thing that is check marked is Put the hard disks to sleep when possible and automatically reduce brightness before display goes to sleep... Any advice? I googled a bunch of stuff but I don't have the options they give to help my problem such as un check the automatically adjust display or what not...
    Thanks

You have to go to System Preferences > Displays (not Energy Saver where you were).
If you really don't have it, and you have an external display attached, that's the reason why. If that's the case, let me know, and I'll give you directions to do it.

  • Tecra A9 - LCD Screen Extremely Dim

    Hi all!
My 4 year old Tecra A9 recently developed a problem with the screen. While using it, i heard a zap and the screen cut out. It hasn't worked since. I've been able to plug it into an external monitor to keep using it though.
But i did find that the screen isn't actually dead, its just extremely dim. If i look really closely and shine a torch on it, I can see what's on the screen. This leads to me believe its something to do with the back-lighting in the LCD screen.
Also, I've checked, and its not a problem with the sensor thinking the lid is closed.
Anyway, I would like to know if anyone has an idea about what the problem specifically is? If so, is this the sort of problem that I can fix myself, or do i need someone from Toshiba to do it for me?
    Thanks!

    Hi Matt89,
I agree with Akuma. If an external monitor works properly it looks like that the FL inverter is faulty. This inverter controls the backlight of internal display and even it would be faulty you can see the picture but very very dim.
If think the best would be contacting an authorized service provider. The guys can order an original FL inverter that is compatible and replace it for you because the display itself must be disassembled and thats not easy.
If your notebook isnt under warranty anymore dont worry because FL inverter is not so expensive. :)

  • Why does my screen keep dimming?

Screen on macbook keeps dimming after a few seconds, even when I put it at the brightest and I'm in the middle of using it.

If that doesn't help, perhaps this is your cause:

  • RANT:  Why does screen keep dimming even when "DIM" is disabled?

    ARGH this is buggin' me!
I turned off the dim under custom in energy saver. i am reading a document and it keeps dimming and it's annoying as doo doo. anything i can do?

What about the option of "Automatically adjust
brightness as ambient light changes" in
    Preferences/Displays?

William - anyone with this problem I can guarantee
shut off every screen dimming option.
I have this issue. It seems to be intermittent.
What seems to improve it - Restarting, or unplugging
and re-plugging in the mag safe charger.
These have been my only solution. I have even turned
off all display changes for battery power so that
there shouldn't be any "confusing" factors for the
    computer.
I wouldn't care so much about this issue if it wasn't
for the screen whine with decreased brightness.
I trust apple will fix this with software or firmware
    updates.
I checked my 1.67 PB 15", it does what is being described. Software?

  • Screen keeps dimming

    Hi,
I've noticed this happening to my iPod for a couple of weeks now.  I got it as a gift two years ago, and it still works fine despite the light scratches on the screen.  Basically the issue is that the screen on my iPod touch will randomly dim down to the point where I can no longer see anything.  It's set on the highest brightness setting and the betteries are full.  It continues to do this while charging.  Sometimes it will fix itself almost as fast as it happened, but now it's taking a few hours to a couple of days to go back to the right brightness.  I've spoken to some other people and apparently this has happened to theirs as well, and they bought theirs around the same time as I got mine, so just two years ago.
    Any information will help.
    Thank you!

If other people with the same model and time have the problem, its probbally a fault in all the models. You probbally have a buggy backlight screen. Take it to Apple, or order a kit and repair it at home. Mine is older than yours (2g) and it doesn't have that problem.

  • Screen keeps dimming when Tecra M5 on battery only

    Hello
I have a Toshiba Tecra M5 laptop and when i take out the mains charger the display dims to the lowest brightness and i have to manually brighten it every single time.
Is there a way to stop this?
I have been into power options in control panel and i cannot find anything in there to fix this.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

    Hi
In my case the Toshiba power saver is appears in control panel only.
I dont need to go to control panel -> Power Options.
But in control panel -> Power Options you have to check if the Toshiba power saver is chosen in Power Schemes.
Furthermore the Power Saver icon should be visible in taskbar.
If this will not help you, then I recommend installing the Toshiba power saver again.
For that download the power saver from Toshiba European driver page.
    Good luck

  • LCD Screen is dim - becoming dimmer?

I occasionally have to use my powerbook outdoors and have noticed that the screen on my powerbook has become steadily dimmer - or at least I think it has. I went into System Preferences>Energy Saver>Options and de-selected the "Reduce the brightness of the built-in display when using this power source" radio button.
It seemed to make a difference, but no longer. Is there any other setting I should look at to increase the screen brightness?
Or is there something else I should be doing?
    Thanks...

By the by, Where is the "automatically adjust
brightness as ambient brightness changes" checkbox?
It's not in my Displays Preference pane?
It's right under the brightness slider in mine.

  • T400 LCD screen is very dim, but icon lights for HDD, etc. are working

Hi - I'm wondering if anyone knows what the issue with my T-400 would be if the LCD screen is very dim.  Details include:
    - When I boot up, there's a faint outline of what is going on, but barely noticeable since the whole screen is very, very dim
    - Video card is working okay, because I can operate the laptop when I plug in an external monitor
    - The icon lights for HDD, power, battery, etc. are still working
Thanks so much for the help.

First a question: Is it a CCFL backlight or LED? If it is a CCFL, it could be just the inverter, which is a lot cheaper than the panel. If the CCFL bulb goes out, usually (but not always) there is a red tint to the screen for a while first. The LED backlights are less likely to blow and there is no inverter. (The LED backlight is DC and the inverter convers the DC to AC to drive the CCFL bulb) Do you know which kind of backlight you have? If you don't know, send me your full model and serial in a pm and I'll look it up. Don't post it in the open forum. Also, what were you doing when it went out? Were you doing anything except normal work, like taking something apart or hooking something up?

  • My 13" Macbook has a very dim screen. Replace inverter board or lcd screen?

I have a 13-inch Macbook and the screen display has gone extremely dim and is very hard to see. Should I replace the inverter board or lcd screen?

No dice   I have it hooked up to an external display and can see that it isn't recognizing the battery.  I've installed a brand new battery connector already, and this is the second battery (although they are from the same place, so maybe they had a bad batch?).  I've done all the updates (firmware and Battery Updater) but still, nada.  Any other suggestions?
I am not too familiar with this specific MacBook battery.  When I push the button on the bottom, 4 out of the 5 lights come on, then the one in the middle, then they all go off.  When I have it plugged in without the machine on, the light on the adapter is green.  I start it up, and it goes to amber.
This is driving me crazy!  What are the chances I would get two bad batteries?  Or two bad battery connectors?  Could it possibly be the logic board?  I was thinking no, because it actually works fine without a battery and shuts off the backlight when the battery is plugged in.
