LCD TV as monitor for Mac?

Hi has anyone tried this? If you are going to sit 6 to 10ft from the screen wouldnt a 1360x 760 32" monitor look similar to a 17" 1360x760 monitor up close?
any views appreciated

Since you are comparing monitors of the exact same format (1360 x 760), then you can just use the ratio of the diagonals to arrive at the number you want. Since the ratio is approximately 2:1 (e.g. 32" is roughly double 17"), then a simple assumption is that whatever you consider a comfortable working distance for a 17" monitor you could almost double for the 32". If you work 2 feet away from a 17", that implies 4 feet would be a good working distance.
I have a 37" LCD TV with 1920 x 1080 resolution. Being 5 feet away is about my limit. It is much nicer to work on it at a 4 foot distance.

  • Using Acer LCD TV as monitor for mac mini

    Hi
I'm trying to use an Acer LCD TV (AL2671W) as a monitor for my mac mini.
The only way I can get it to work is booting the mini when connected to a different monitor then plugging in the AL2671W - this then works fine. If I boot when connected to the AL2671W I receive a No Signal message.
Any help would be much appreciated!

If you have a second computer at your disposal that can be networked to your mini, consider establishing a VNC connection between the two. You can then remotely make a resolution selection on the mini while the Acer TV is attached to the mini, even in the absence of a useable screen being displayed on the Acer. Once you have remotely made the selection of your choosing that gives a satisfactory display on the Acer, it should stay that way permenantly.

  • 70" Sharp LED-LCD TV as monitor for Mac Mini?

I just purchased a 70" Sharp LED-LCD TV---considering buying a Mac Mini to watch TV online and ditching my DirecTV.  TV resolution is 1920 x 1080.  Will I be able to get a High Definition picture as clear as HD DirecTV this way?

what are you planning on watching on the MM?  if you're thinking of getting rid of DirecTV and getting all of your programming from Hulu or something like that, those sites don't stream in 1080p, so no.  If you're downloading BluRay rips and watching those, then yes, it'll display in 1080p.  I believe it can actually handle resolutions higher than 1080, but since no TVs support those resolutions (yet), you'll be limited to 1080.

  • Best LED TV  to be used as monitor for Mac Mini (Late 2012 model)

    Hi All,
I am having a mac mini (late 2012 model). Now, I am planning to buy a HD LED Tv from my home. So I would like to know which one will be best suited to be used as a monitor for mac mini so that I can buy a TV which will be used as both TV and Monitor

You'll want something that's 1080p. Best to have one with HDMI input, too. Other than that, let price and warranty be your guide.

  • Which Graphics Card for a 40 inch HDTV LCD or Plasma Monitor for the best

Which Graphics Card for a 40 inch HDTV LCD or Plasma Monitor for the best value and price?
Hi, I was wondering if I replace my current standard graphics card for a MacPro Early 2008 for a graphics card for a 40" HDTV, which was is the best for the price and value? My current card when used with such a large monitor/ TV isn't very good, I think? So thinking of updating...

This sounds like a price match question. Without knowing all the details, it sounds like a yes for the Westinghouse, but I would encourage you to read the price match policy link here:

If all you care about is 1080p definition and an HDMI input at a $300 price point then this tv should suit your needs. (As a bonus it has 120Hz refresh for smoother action scenes.)http://www.bestbuy.com/site/Westinghouse+-+40%26%2334%3B+Class+-+LCD+-+1080p+-+120Hz+-+HDTV/5772998....

  • IPad as second monitor for mac.

    Hi, All.
As I work on Aperture designing a large book in landscape format it occurred to me that it would be helpful to have a second monitor. My idea was to free the primary monitor for the display of the book layout and have the different palettes displayed on the iPad. In addition to Aperture I am also using Photoshop and InDesign. Both of these applications have numerous palettes that could be moved to a secondary monitor.
Has anyone tried this before ? Is there a simple solution that will allow the iPad to work as a second monitor for my Mac ?
    Thank you in advance.

    Hi.
Based on some suggestions from others I think the iPad connected to my computer wirelessly as a second monitor may not be fast enough to be a practical solution.
    Thanks for the suggestion.

  • IPad 2 as only monitor for Mac Mini

hello. I own a Mac Mini (2010) and will be traveling overseas. I do not own a laptop, but I do own a WIFI iPad 2. Is there a way to use the iPad 2 as a monitor for my Mac Mini? I would not need to access any of the touch screen features on the iPad, just simply use it as a small monitor. If someone could provide me with a link or a step by step solution it would be very appreciated.
    thanks.
    Gus.

There are apps that allow using an iPod as a secondary monitor for a computer. I do not think it can be the only monitor but maybe after you first use a regular monitor to setup the iPad monitor. You will have to look at the description of the apps/go to theri support site

I'd like to use my mid 2010 27" iMac as a monitor for my Mac mini. Is this possible with thunderbolt?

You'll use the thunderbolt port on your mini and connect to the mini display port on the iMac. use a mini display to mini display cable.

  • TV as monitor for mac mini issue

I need some help. I've been using a 42" 1080p TV as a monitor for my Mac mini via HDMI input for years with no issue. I had set the display to 720p and never had a problem.
Tonight I bought a new 60" 1080p TV and proceeded to plug everything as normal via HDMI, turned everything on and it was working fine. I am 99% sure that when I went to display preferences it said 720p still, so I decided to try 1080p as the TV is so much larger. The TV screen went black and there was no way to revert back to 720p since I couldn't see the settings box anymore.
The TV screen is fine when using xbox and blu ray player and i've tried all the factory resets for the TV. I've hooked the old TV back up and have played around with the display preference settings and then reconnecting to the new TV @ each one but no luck. I'm not sure at this point if it's a Mac issue or not but I'm wondering if anyone has any suggestions?
    Any help is much appreciated
    Thanks
    Erin

The old TV works no problem -- at 420p, 720p, 1080i & 1080p. I've got overscan turned off now, but didn't when I first attached the new TV. Again, it's fine on the old TV with overscan on or off. No matter what I do I get this black screen of death but sound on the new TV. So that's why I'm thinking it might be the TV causing the problem. But thought I'd post here to see if anyone else has encountered the same problem.
BTW it's a Sharp Aqous 60" TV. The old TV is off-brand, Dynex.
