LCD TV connection

My B&O TV manual tells me I need to connect my PC via a DVI-I connector on the TV.
Can anyone advise a cable spec. for this job.

Hello
On the market there are many vendors where you can order different DVI Cables & Adapters. Google a little bit around and I am sure that you will find one to connect your unit to TV.
Check also this page http://www.bhphotovideo.com/bnh/controller/home?O=breadCrumb&A=search&Q=&ci=7512 .
Good luck!

  • Cinema Screen & LCD TV connected to G5 - can the cinema screen still sleep?

    Hi there
I have a 20'' Apple Cinema Screen and an LCD TV connected to my Powermac G5 at the same time.
When I am playing a DVD or movie from Quicktime so it shows on the TV in fullscreen mode, I want the Cinema Screen to go to sleep automatically after the number of minutes I have it set to sleep after no activity. This doesn't happent though. Is there any way to make this happen?
I tried having the cinema screen set to 'power button turns monitor on/off' - so that when playing something on the TV I manually turn off the cinema screen - BUT with this method, when I shut down my computer, the cinema screen doesn't turn off!

Are you using Spaces? It sounds like perhaps Spaces is being inadvertently activated. Go into System Preferences/Exposé and Spaces and turn Spaces off if it is on and see if that helps.

  • Cant't shutdown G4 with LG LCD diplays connected

Well, the title summarizes it all! I've just bought two LG 19" LCD displays. Now, my MDD dual 1,25 G4 always wakes up when I put it to sleep and if I shutdown the computer, it automatically restarts.
I already resetted the PMU, did a run of Onyx and resetted the NVRAM.
Any cues on what's going on?

There is a tech note on using DVI to VGA on LCDs when connected to the OEM 9000 Radeon.
Had the same thing with ViewSonic LCD VGA.
Two solutions, use an ADC 2 VGA adapter $29 or get retail 9000, or OWC carries modified OEM 9600 (from G5, lacks ADC connector) which is a better card for only $70.
But... there aren't enough details as to your hardware setup to say "why."

  • Mac mini won't start up when LCD TV connected

    Hi,
I seem to have a problem which at the first glance looks similar to a lot others being discussed here. Just I am not sure if it really is.
Having received my Mac mini a few days ago I am trying desperately to use an LCD TV as display. Once connected powering on the Mac mini gives me that white screen you all know with the grey Apple symbol and the progress circle. At that point the TV says it’s running in 1080i mode. All looks good. -- Until a few seconds later the screen will turn black and not display anything anymore. (Just as if it would not get a signal.)
The TV is a quite popular one over here I would think: Philips 32PF9830, HDTV, with DVI and HDMI input ports. 1280 x 720p and 1920 x 1080i are supported video modes which I would like to run.
TV specs would be here: http://www.p4c.philips.com/files/3/32pf983010/32pf9830_10_psseng.pdf
TV and Mac are connected via a DVI-D cable. I’m having SSH and VNC access to the Mac.
Now with VNC I only get a proper desktop screen when the TV is not connected. When the TV is connected all I am getting presented via VNC is that white boot screen and the nice grey Apple logo. So with TV connected it appears the Mac doesn’t really start the window manager.
Looking at the process list this seems to confirm. Without having the TV connected after powering on the Mac I do see a process running called loginwindow.
When the TV is connected I don’t see that one, but instead 2 processes called WaitingForLoginWindow. See below for the full process lists.
All my trials configuring a good screen resolution via VNC before connecting the TV did not give a different result. Whatever I configure to be used as resolution, I am getting the above.
Funny enough running the Apple Hardware Test from the install disk shows a perfect picture in 1080i mode and also specifies 1920 x 1080i as screen resolution used.
Would anyone have an idea what’s going wrong here … and how to fix? I would suspect that communication between the TV and the Mac is broken. Would I have any chance to further troubleshoot on that?
Is there a way to tell the Mac not to do any auto configuration or auto discovery on the DVI port?
    Any other ideas?

  • External LCD Monitor Connection - Unacceptable Quality

    Hello,
I have recently purchased a Mac, hoping that I would be able to connect to my external LCD monitor (19" Samsung SyncMaster 920NW - only VGA connection).
I have easily hooked up my monitor to my Mac. However, what I see is of unacceptable quality. When compared to Macbook display, the display on the external monitor is darker and the text looks horrible. I have played with few settings but nothing good.
I have read other threads where people complain about similar things. But, I thought Samsung's monitors would be of higher quality. Mine is a relatively cheap LCD but not this cheap
I am just willing to confirm that I am not missing anything. I simply can't believe that the display quality could be this bad. In the worst case, I will have to buy a new LCD.
    Many thanks in advance.

    Hello stedman1,
Thank you for your quick reply.
Unfortunately, it is not running in the Mirror mode. The display with the mirror mode was even worse! But after reading the posts in the forum, I have learned how to change it to the extended display. It is better than the mirror mode, but still not good enough.
Maybe I am making a mistake comparing the external monitor with the MacBook's monitor?? There is a huge gap between the two. It is a lot darker, and the text quality is way worse.
Someone with a similar monitor having solved this issues?
    Thanks,
    Guven.

  • 17" Studio LCD Display connect to G3

I recently purchased a 17" Studio LCD Display which came with an ADC to DVI adapter.
Then I picked up an adapter, but it was the wrong kind. It was DVI to VGA which still required the present VGA/G3 adapter ... the connection was going through three adapters that way. The monitor didn't light up. When I pressed the On/Off button (bottom right on front of display) the button lit up while my finger was on it and then faded to dark when I removed my finger. The system did not recognize the connection on the pci card either. I was able to hook everything up physically but the display didn't go on.
When I plugged the UBS pigtail in, my system could see and recognize the monitor on the UBS port. So apparently, the driver software won't be a problem.
Rather than putzing with adapters and connectors, I'd prefer to swap out the VGA card with a DVI video card for the G3. Is there such a video card available for the G3?
    Is this even feasible?
The reason I need to keep this G3 is because it has a SCSI port (running Classic 9.2.2) which I require for an expensive high end scanner. Until I can find a comparable unit compatible with my new iMac I'd like to keep the G3 but would really like to hook up the lcd display on it.
    Any ideas?

Exactly my problem too (and many others surely!)
I have a macbook and a 17" LCD studio display which has a plug with 30 pins. As understand it, it is a DVI-I dual ink.
I was about to buy the DVI adaptor from the mac store as it would appear to do the job but I learned that it is DVI-D and not DVI-I as is required. I searched for another picture of this adaptor (the pic on the mac store is decidely unhelpful) and it is clear from looking at it that it will not fit.
Anyone know what to do here?

  • MDD / ATI 9800 Pro - LCD TV connection

I'm thinking. I would like to connect the MDD (with 9800 Pro) to a LCD TV. The 9800 has an available 15Pin out (VGA?) and the TV has a VGA in.
Looking for thoughts on this. Thinking the MDD would be my video library and serve up our collection. Beyond a couple cables VGA to VGA and audio to audio are there any other things I should be considering.
Is there software that enhances this sort of 'Home Theater' type of idea?
    Special cables?
Other things I should be aware of? (Picture quality issues, sound issues, .....)
Any thoughts on the concept appreciated.
Edit; Might add the TV also has HDMI and Component connection ports.

    Hi-
Any suggestions for where to get the cabling - Radio Shack? eBay? other online source?
I bought both online, and at a Japanese equivalent of a Radio Shack. Whatever is easier for you, and most economical. I do, however, suggest high quality cabling.
Should the 9800 Pro give me decent resolution?
Yes. The 9800 will support many resolutions. You will want to use the ATI Displays Control panel, so that you can de-interlace the picture for full use of the screen. Play with the settings, and you will understand.
How do you come up with the '1080p'?
That's based on what the TV (and the graphics card) supports.
The display and TV both list in 1024x768 type figures? The TV literature suggests a resolution setting of 1366x768 at 60 Hz
Sounds like the TV is a 720p. Check the chart half way down this page for better explanations of what the resolutions, and the abbreviated "720p", "1080p" etc. refer to.
It is best to go with what the manufacturer suggests, though other resolutions are possible.
I don't think there will be any problems with the 9800 providing the needed resolutions.
The TV literature suggests a resolution setting of 1366x768 at 60 Hz.
This would most likely be the optimal digital resolution for full 720p HD TV.
Thanks again Japamac and Happy New Year!
You're very welcome, and Happy New Year to you!

  • LCD projector connection to ibook G4

can someone please let me know what kind of cable is needed for a Hitachi LCD projector? the "media" personel at the hospital where i work are trying to use a USB to USB connection , which isn't working. There is a male 3 x 5 prong in the back of the projector that the PC's can attatch to, but my computer only has firewall, USB inputs. If anyone has any idea please let me know - thanks

    Hi,
    Welcome to the Discussions.
Your iBook came with a VGA adapter that plugs into the video port next to the headphone jack. Most projectors have VGA input and connecting to it will work. If the projector doesn't have VGA, it won't work with your iBook.

  • LCDS Lost Connection

when LCDS first starts, everything goes smoothly, however, after a long time of no activity, when user reload the page, the error message is returned, and says the data cannot be pulled, but the second time the user reload the page, everything goes fine again.
for me, it seems LCDS drop the database connection after no user pulls the data for a long period, does anyone else experience the same issue?

Are you using MySQL as your database? MySQL automatically drops idle connections after a set amount of time (See the wait_timeout setting: http://dev.mysql.com/doc/refman/5.0/en/server-system-variables.html#sysvar_wait_timeout and also here: http://dev.mysql.com/doc/refman/5.0/en/gone-away.html) If so, you can try increasing the wait_timeout value if there are extended intervals when no one accesses the server, or tweaking your connection properties to have it auto-reconnect.
Besides that, you can try configuring your pool to check connections before returning them. For e.g. on DBCP you can try the testOnBorrow/testWhileIdle settings. Note that testing a connection every time (on borrow) is expensive.

  • Display (Samsung LCD-TV) does not sync after wakeup anymore...

    All this worked with leopard.

I have no solution to this issue, but I've been having the same problem for about 2 weeks now. I never had any other issues with my iPhone in the 15 months I've owned it, but this is causing huge problems for me.
My computer setup is very similar to the above poster, and I've tried the uninstall and complete reinstall (and every other suggestion I could find) to no avail. iTunes just won't recognise my iPhone and it hangs every time I try to connect it.
In the iTunes diagnostics (which I can only get to work if I open it before I connect the iPhone) everything is green except the sync tests, which it fails. The help button there is completely useless, Apple's website generally isn't helpful and there's really no other way to get support from them.
    Does anyone have any ideas?

  • Studio 17" LCD went black

I have a 17" Studio LCD monitor connected to a Mac Mini intel via a DVI to ADC adapter. Last night when using the computer the screen suddenly went all black, as if the power was removed and I can not get the picture to return. The power indicator on the display is on and has power. Is it the monitor, the DVI to ADC adapter, something else? I've heard rumors of Leopard/display issues, but I had no issues till this. I will try to borrow a monitor, but don't know anybody with an ADC monitor. Does anybody have any solutions to what is going wrong?

  • Using Keynote with host's LCDs

I make my living as a presenter. Always worked in PowerPoint. I end up using many different LCD projectors, but have gotten used to connecting to my PC.
Just bought a MacBook to use transition to Keynote and I’m wondering what issues I should expect using my MacBook on host LCD projectors?
Do most LCD’s connect via mini-DVI?
I bought a mini-DVI to VGA connector. Does using it compromise the quality of keynote presentations?
What resolutions do most LCD's likely support?
    macbook   Mac OS X (10.3)
    macbook   Mac OS X (10.3)

In my experience, most current business projectors will display at 1024 X 768, although older/cheaper models may have a native resolution of 800 X 600. Most projectors can rescale some higher resolutions, but I'd say that you're safest to not go above 1024 X 768. Also, although some projectors will have digital inputs, many business projectors will not, and so it is vital to have the VGA connector. While you may lose a bit of quality, in the cases where you need it, you won't likely have any other option.

  • Any way to connect two external displays?

    Hello,
I have a quick question about connecting my PowerBook G4 15'' (machine model: Powerbook 5,6) to some external displays.
I am trying to connect it to both a Samsung Syncmaster LCD and my TV.
Currently, I am able to connect to each successfully, but only one at a time.
My Samsung syncmaster LCD is connected via the DVI port on my powerbook, and using the DVI to VGA adapter, since the Samsung LCD is VGA. My TV is connected via S-Video, though I do have the s-video to composite adapter that came with my powerbook if it makes a difference.
Anyways, my problem is I want to be able to use all three displays at once (the powerbook screen, my samsung LCD, and my TV), but i can only get one of the external displays working at a given time, and have to unplug the DVI (samsung lcd) to get the TV to be detected and activated as an external display.
Any suggestions will be much appreciated. If there is some adapter I need to buy to make all this work, thats fine, just tell me what it is.
Thank you for all your time.
    Regards,
    Matt Ellison
    PowerBook G4 15" (machine model: Powerbook 5,6)   Mac OS X (10.4.3)

This solution was previously pointed out to me on the 17" PowerBook forum. I don't have one and don't know how well it works. Last I saw they didn't have drivers for Tiger, yet.

I expect you would hook your SyncMaster LCD to the VT Book and then use the S-Video port on the PB to connect the TV.

  • Possible to Connect Two External Displays?

At work I have two 1600x1200 LCD displays connected to my G4 MDD and I've become quite attached to them and truly feel the extra real estate increases my productivity.
I'm due to get a new system and would like to get a laptop rather than a desktop system since I occassionally work from home and would like to just have one machine for everything.
The only thing holding me back is the unavailabilty of using dual displays. Here are the only solutions that I know of, but not that I am interested in:
o use the laptop display with an external display (problem: I would want my two displays to be the same size, and the laptop display would be too small for my taste)
o use one of those matrox dual display external boxes (problem: uses vga but my LCDs are DVI and I'm not interested in sacrificing quality)
o get a huge display to take the place of two, like the 30" ACD (problem: too expensive, and already have two nice 21" displays)
So ... just hoping someone has some other suggestions. If nothing like this is available now, does anyone know if this sort of capability would or could ever be supported? Thanks.

Thanks for the quick reply, but see my second bullet, that what I meant by the "matrox thing". If it were DVI based I'd give it a try, but my understanding is it is VGA.
