LCD TV Problems

Hello, I have a 32 inch LCD HDTV that I decided to connect to my mac as a second monitor. I have a Powermac G5, first generation dual 1.8GHz with the stock GeForce FX5200 installed.
I bought an HDMI/DVI cable and conected the DVI to my fx5200 and connected it to my LCD TV. The problem now, is that the TV doesn't get a signal...I was once able to get the mac to recognize that there was a second, widescreen monitor attached, but I still didn't get a signal on the TV. Any ideas?

Well, I'm not entirely sure I know how I did it, but I seemed to have fixed the problem I was having with my TV. I tried plugging it into the a different HDMI port which was meant to be for DVI input. for sme reason it worked like a charm. Thanks for the quick reply anyways!

I have seen this before with a build 63. Is yours b63?
Changing "virtual screen resolution" might help, though it did not do anything for my case.
    "VESA No Matching Modes".
Video Device: XF86-VESA VESA-compatible video cardsOn b63, it is known that there are issues with some video drivers.
A possible workaround is to use XF86 drivers, so maybe use some non-vesa driver.

  • Quicktime Video on an LCD Projector Problems & Refresh Rate?

I'm having an issue and don't have a lot of experience with this but hopefully someone has some insight.
When i play back video (formats including DV, DV50, HDV, PRORES422 / interlaced or progressive / frame rates of 23.98 or 29.97) in full screen using Quicktime Player (version 7.4.5) and Present (Shift CMD F) to a projector, the video plays and looks good, with the exception of during certain portions of the video (generally, with a lot of motion), i see either a flicker or what appears to be a scan line, tear, or a trace that scrolls vertically up the image. The flickering/trace is consistent with regard to a particular portion of the video, though when i adjust the refresh rate for the projector, the behavior of the flicker or scrolling trace changes (say at 60hz, it scrolls slowly up vs 85hz where i see mostly flickering/tearing of the image or multiple traces scrolling up). I've tried 3 different projectors, and every combination of screen resolution and refresh rate with no success.
I should point out that when i play these videos full screen on a cinema display (20in or 23in) i don't see this behavior at all.
So, i have a few specific questions:
    1. Is anyone familiar with this behavior and any solutions?
    2. The projector is connected with a VGA cable and DVI adapter. Might a DVI cable resolve the issue? Is the behavior a result of the analog input? (The cinema displays are connected via DVI and don't exhibit the behavior)
    3. If it is a projector issue, any recommendations on a good projector for presenting video played back from a computer?
Thanks in advance for your help. If i've posted in the incorrect forum, please do direct me to the right place.
    Shane

Just a fast reply... something to think about...
Use 60hz, most lcd are 60hz. Check you resolution specs for the projector. If the native resolution is 800x600 use that setting if higher use that.....
If your using the lcd as a secondary display try setting the main display to the same specs. Sometime a mismatch between the two displays can cause problems.
Go with the lcd spec settings that's the main priority and the main display isn't.

  • Toshiba 46xv640u lcd audio problems

I have been trying to get the audio settings set up but am having problems. I have run an HDMI cable from my PS3 to my Toshiba LCD and am receiving sound but not all channels are coming across. Dialog is missing.
The movie is Dolby Digital audio 5.1 channel AC-3.
I been through and through the manual but cant seem to get the settings right. There are some settings in audio setup that are greyed out and not available to adjust.
In audio setup for example the following choices are available:
    PC audio: yes/no
HDMI audio (if yes for PC audio is selected then the default choice for HDMI audio is digital) ( if no is selected for PC audio then I can select either auto/digital/analog)
MTS is greyed out so I cant adjust
Dolby Digital dynamic range is greyed out
Man this has me pulling my hair out. Anybody ever run into this?
I'm wondering if it's my PS3 settings but this PS3 has worked with other equipment without problems, I just moved it to this TV and I cant get the right sound so I dont know what to do.
    It shouldnt be this difficult

You would think that maybe a Toshiba rep would visit here and answer questions. I cant imagine I'm the only person who has ever had this problem. Chirp chirp chirp

  • PowerMac 8600/250 LCD connection problem

I've an 8600/250 with a Sonnet Crescendo G4 processor upgrade; Sonnet Tempo ATA133 card; USB (v.1.1.2) card w/2 HDs--running both the native 4 gb scsi and a Seagate ATA/128 gb drives. It's all connected to a ViewSonic VX-710 15 inch LCD monitor. It is not internet connected. Of concern, a recent problem has arisen with the monitor connection. I've developed a thin white line that vertically extends down the face of the monitor adjacent the mouse scrolling marker. The line "moves" with the mouse scroll (a constant 1/2 inch relationship). Changing the monitor DPI setting to (1024X768--74.9mghz) will shorten the vertical length of the line to half the distance down the page. I'm using the analog connection with the monitor. Everything worked fine until very recently--the evolution of the line erratically developing over a few short days. The monitor, functions perfectly when hooked up as a second to my I-Mac, so I've ruled the monitor out as being faulty. Any ideas out there? VRAM memory issues? Would an ATA Rage 1280 video card installation help? I've grown rather fond of this useful, adaptive, tough little machine and it's reliability over the years. I use the computer as a dedicated platform for storage and management of years of my old OS 9.1 files and OS specific programs. I'm open to any and all suggestions.
    Thanks,TMc

    The long and winding road...
Voila!...it's working again. First of all, I want to thank everyone for their time and input--I tried it all. The final equation to the problem; stock VRAM.
Frustrated to no end, I wandered through the door of "Mc2", a local Mac shop (20+ years) in the nearby northern Monterey coastal burg of Soquel, CA. The shop always keeps a few older Mac's of various releases in the back for bits & pieces salvaging along with a couple of grey-hair techies who've been through it all.
The first thing asked was whether the "line" I was experiencing on the desktop had been accompanied by gradual pixel degradation over a a number of startups--it had! He responded by stating on the 85/86/9600 series motherboards VRAM serve as a through-put point, regardless of the Video card installed. He suggested "A faulty chip, especially with newer LCD monitors, will often manifest itself with a vertical line down the monitor." Additionally, he suggested this problem can also be confused as an indicator of a faulty LCD screen, BUT if the line moves with the mouse scroll or can be changed by pixel resolution/screen refresh rates, it suggests faulty VRAM--memory that should to be left in these machines for video stability. He suggested they should not be mixed and matched and need to be replaced in matching pairs.
A quick online over-night order to my trusty memory source "4AllMemory" (an excellent and reliable source for on-the-cheap new goodies for PCI macs), and Voila! With a little testing as to which chip(s) required replacement, I restarted and everything returned to normal. Relief, finally!

  • T60 LCD Dsiplay problem

I'm having a strange problem with the LCD display on a T60.  The LCD display is turning off while the system is in use.  The system is still up and running.  (I can us VNC to go into the laptop from another system - everything responds and works.)  If I put the system into standby, the display power on again, then go off a few minutes later.
When the display does come back, it  usually has a pink hue for a few seconds.  Then is again looks normal.
I have previously had Thinkpad display problems that were caused by the failure of a connecting cable to the display.  But this one seems different.  It also doesn't seem like a failure of the graphics chips, because the system doesn't detect any problems and because the display renders fine through VNC.
Any suggestions would be much appreciated.  Thanks!
    Michael Greis

Wow!  I don't think I ever received an answer that quickly on any forum/site,.  Thank you - vielen Dank!
As you'll see, just by chance I noticed that the display was still visible and added that to my original question before seeing your response.  I had actually just moved the Thinkpad down the floor where I have the plug for an  LCD monitor I use with several other systems.
So even though I can get the screen back (for a few minutes) by closing the cover and then reopening it, it is the display itself that has failed?  My system was set to go into standby when I closed the lid.  I just changed it to take "no action" when the lid is closed.  If I close the lid, then re-open it, the monitor comes back.  It then shuts down again after anywhere from 30 seconds to a few mintues.
I want to be as sure as possible before investing in a new screen....thanks so much for your help!

  • Quicksilver G4 + Widescreen LCD DVI problem - VERY VERY WEIRD!

    Hi,
I bought a G4/867 Quicksilver off eBay. It came with Panther. I already have a 20.1" BenQ widescreen LCD.
I installed Tiger, then noticed the DVI display would fail (display strange blue/black artefacts or a 'fuzzy screen'. I have screenshots if anybody wants them. It is intermittent, and usually occurs after one of the following events:
    * powering on the computer
    * waking from sleep
    * switching from VGA (my pc) input to DVI (my mac) via the monitor
    I tested:
    * another video card (with native DVI): same problem
    * another computer (Mac mini): no problem
    * VGA: no problem
I returned the unit and got another. I ran Panther on it for a week with no problems. I just upgraded to Tiger. All the problems above are now happening again. It happened both on 10.4.0 and 10.4.6 (i.e. pre and post update).
If anyone has any experience at all in this, please post here or let me know if you need more info.
    G4 Quicksilver 867   Mac OS X (10.4.6)   20.1" BenQ Widescreen LCD

Sorry, forgot to mention it is independent of screen resolution.
Native screen res is 1680x1050. And it works perfectly sometimes, just not reliably. Have tried at 1024x768, 1280x1024, 640x480 and replicated the fault on all of them.
It also happens at startup, which made me think hardware. But it could be as the OS display drivers are loading. The fact that it worked with Panther makes me think software.
    Images available:
    http://www.geekhut.com/mac1.jpg
    http://www.geekhut.com/mac2.jpg
If it doesn't fail, the screen looks perfect. The same screen also works with a PC and other macs.
To clarify, the G4 is using an ADC-->DVI converter, but fault in this has been eliminated by:
    - using the same converter with another dvi monitor (no problem)
    - installing a native dvi graphics card in the g4 (same problem)

  • LCD display problem- bright spot

    Hi,
I just bought my idea u310 online. By opening laptop for the first time, I noticed the screen frame is detached. the frame was not fixed in its own place. it was separated from lcd. I pushed corners so that it can get fit in the right place. it seemed to be all right but after some hours working, I noticed a brighter spot at bottom of lcd display (bottom at task bar- more near to right side). I am very upset I afraid if the spot becomes more and more bigger ... its annoying . what this kind of problem is ? what is the solution ?
    Thank you

I would say return it to get a full refund or a replacement because it sounds like it got damaged during shippment.

  • MSAI FX 5600 VTDR DVI out & LCD monitor problem

I'm having problems with the card if I connect my TFT monitor using the DVI out on the graphic card. The problem usually occurs when resuming from standby mode or durring the initial startup of the system. All over the screen i see moving golden dots . This stops when I change resolution. If i connect the monitor using the VGA out everything is fine. I've tried the monitor on different card (gigabyte Ati Radeon 8500 Dvi out) and everything was OK. I've checked the cables and tried different driver.
Is there any sollution for my problem, and second can this do a damage to my monitor.

  • 17" MacBookPro LCD light problem

Hi, I hope somebody can help me with this...
2 months ago (may 2011), I bought a MBP 17" 4GB RAM 1GB video, the thing is, I used it normally the last time (I don´t remember if that day installed a new firmware, but I believe I installed one few days before the problem) and i turned it off, when I tried to turn it on, I heard the sounds and a CD reading, but the LCD is just black, dead, like it is unplugged, I can adjust the volume and hear the sound of it, I can see the light of the keyboard, and then, if I use my MBP with a window behind of me, with the sunlight I can see the desktop and the menus and use them, that´s why I believe the LCD light is not working. As I said before, I just bought it 2 months ago in USA, but I took it out of the country for work and I can´t find the ticket!, does anybody know if the warranty applies in another country (Mexico)? as an additional data, my MBP haven´t suffered the minimum hit or fall, it has no scratches at all.
    Please somebody help me! =(

I think your best bet would be to call Apple on the phone and explain your situation and see what they suggest:
    http://www.apple.com/contact/
Down at the bottom there is a number listed for Mexico.
You are clearly under warranty, and this does sound like a hardware problem of some sort that should be covered.
    Good luck!

  • Nokia N97 LCD Screen Problems - a never ending sto...

    Hello.
I recently purchased a new Nokia N97 smartphone. Everything about the phone is awesome, such as GPS, decent camera, good audio and video playback, etc, except for one thing. First thing first, I always see ghosting or 'burn-in' of images on the screen - quiet clearly on bright backgrounds. This is one of many annoyances as it often is visible when your watching movies and will only go away if the screen is off long enough. Another fault with the screen is that it appears to not refresh fast enough as I can often see what appears to be 'scan lines' running horizontal (if the phone is horizontal). Last, but not least, there appears to be diagonal lines crossing the screen from the top left to the buttom right as well as little matrixes of dots, however they do not seem to be on the LCD itself but rather the resistve layer. This may be just a feature to make the screen more reponsive, but I don't know and it is only visible in bright light, but when it is, you can diffently notice it. Does anyone else notice these strange effects? Will a Nokia Care Center help fix it?
And yes, screen proctectors have been removed.
    Naito.

I have the exact same problems... Some other problems two.
When I get a call and my correspondent quits the communication before I do, the phone freezes and I m forced to turn the phone off to deblock it.
This is really annoying. Some times, just while navigating between menus the screen gets stuck between two menus.
I purchased the phone 2 days ago and as you sed, its a great phone but not worth the pries, far from it.
I m goanna bring it back to the shop to have it change to see if its my phone who has a problem or the entire N97 series.
If that's the case I ll go for an other phone. I have always used Nokia phones, and was happy about them but this time I m am really disappointed.
I ll let you guys know if I get these problems fixed or if it gets worst.

  • 5800 Xpress Music Camera & Lcd preview problem

    Hi
Iam facing the foll problems with my 5800 Xpress Music phone.  I always update it to latest firmware.
    1. 50 % of times , when I go into snapshot mode or in video mode,
the preview becomes blank and I am unable to operate the camera
    2. Worst bug, is recently, some of the stored pics & videos are getting deleted automatically,
    3. 50 % of times, the LCD preview shows a blank screen in video play back mode.
please suggest a method to resolve these issues.
    Thanks
    Muninder

It shows also the duration of the last call.
Oh I get it. You want for each particular call.
When you go to Menu>Log, you see three icons (recent calls, call duration, packet data). If you notice at the top of the screen, just under the time, and the "Log", there are two tabs. Tap the tab on the right, it will take you to the "Detailed" Log. You can see here a list of all the SMS and calls you have made. Each Item is labeled if its a call, sms, or gprs, and if its outgoing or in going.
Tapping on a call entry will show you call direction (in/out), type (video/voice), DURATION, and number call/calling.

  • G550 LCD Video Problem

I have a G550 with fixed hash in several locations on the screen, see picture below. I am totally stumped as to what could be causing this problem. The hash pattern is the same regardless of the changes to the hardware, which seems impossible since I have changed everything except the case!
    Actions taken:
Video is fine on an external monitor.
A few horizontal lines are seen during Lenovo startup screen.
Starting in Safe Mode does not make any difference.
Replaced Flex Cable (three different cables - one used, one new & one removed from a working G550).
Replaced LCD Screen: (two different screens - one new & one removed from a working G550).
Removed memory sticks one at a time & tried them in alternate memory slots.
Replaced Motherboard with used / tested motherboard.
Would appreciate any suggestions as to what else could cause this problem!!!
