LCD TV VGA problems....

Hi All,
I've pretty much given up on getting my Mac Mini to display on my LCD TV (Goodmans GTVL20W7HD) via DVI, as seen here: http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=739287&tstart=0
So, I thought I'd "fallback" to the VGA option. I know the VGA input on my TV works as I've used it with 3 different windows laptops and my old desktop pc. However, what seemed like a sensible exercise has left me with even more frustration. I get no picture!
The result is better than the DVI, the TV at least powers up and recognises that it is receiving a signal. However, I'm still faced with a black screen, with the occasional white flicker, as though its "trying" to display.
I've been through the instructions for the TV and setup a resolution and frequency that matches those in the manual. But it never gets any better than that.
I've even tried tweaking it with SwitchResX, but no better results. The "Export DDC" in SwitchResX produces the following:

Any ideas would be much appreciated. This is the worst part of my Mac experience so far!

Have you tried manually switching the video input on your TV to Digital DVI? I know that some monitors do not do this automatically and could possibly be the issue here...
e-mail me and let me know...I'm working on getting my Mini ready as an entertainment hub as well...

  • Connecting my Mac Mini DVI video output to Dell W3706MC LCD TV VGA Input

I tried connecting my mac mini to the Dell W3706MC LCD TV VGA input but it wanted me to change the resolution of the mac to 1360 x 768 at 60 Hz. I did that but it still would not display the video. I tried my PC laptop and that worked fine with different resolutions. So I know that there is nothing wrong with the TV. Did anyone experience this same problem?
    Any help would be great.
    Thanks,
    Karl

I'm confused about your comment "it wanted me to change the resolution of the mac to 1360 x 768 at 60 Hz." I presume the way this was communicated was through a dialog box, correct? But if you could see a dialog box, that means you had a working screen at one point, correct? Why don't you just run at that resolution?

  • Would a new LCD fix this problem?

Below is a picture I made to show what my screen looks like.
    http://img186.imageshack.us/img186/2388/iphonescreen.png
Ignore that light gray "line" that runs through the middle. That is a crack, and its not noticeable at all so I could care less.
My real issue is the huge blobs of gray shown on the top left and bottom right corners. They take up lots of space, and cover up keys. I'm sure you can all guess that I dropped my phone, and the lines appeared and began growing rapidly. So would replacing the LCD solve this problem?

    Yes

  • Mini DVI to VGA problem

    Hello,
I just recently bought the mini DVI to VGA adaptor for my new MacBook because I wanted to use my laptop as a dvd player and plug it into the TV in my room. The TV is a Samsung LCD ln S1951W, when I plug it in the computer detects the display but the TV still flashes the no signal thingie. I've tried it with a proyector and it works fine. It's not the vga-vga cable because it works fine when i connect my iBook. Could anyone help me fix this problem please?

If you are just using it for that specific screen (just for the moment use a workaround). I have the same screen.
Download SwitchResX and make the following setup under "Custom" 1360x 768 at 60Hz. Restart for the settings to be available. It should solve the flashing problem for this specific screen.
If you don´t want to pay for SwitchResX, just check that the new resolution settings are available in the normal mac display options (which they should) and unistall it... the settings will be stored and you can use them indefinitely.
Wait, just re-read your post, you are not getting any signal at all? Then I have no clue if this will solve it. Try it anyways.
    Cheers.

  • Late 2009 Macbook aluminium Output to Samsung LCD (SyncMaster 710T) problem

Have bought a Mini-Display port to DVI cable for connecting macbook to the Samsung LCD monitor. Output is fine but if i left my desk (with macbook on), and when the Macbook goes to power saving mode or sleep...after i switch it back on, my lcd display flicker and fails. It too fails to get signal at times...am I experience a weird problem?
or there is in fact some fault with my macbook?
    or my LCD problem?

Anyone encounters what I am experiencing now?
I noted that there is an update for the Mini-Display Port to VGA.
    What about DVI??

  • LCD/LED Monitor Problems

I have just purchased a new 2010 Mac Mini and an LG E2240S LCD - LED backlit monitor. I have this connected using a Mini DisplayPort > VGA adapter.
I have resolution set at 1920x1080 at 50Hz which seems the best setting.
The problem is everything seems very grainy and text especially looks very sharp and jagged around the edges.
Any ideas what would cause this?

The monitor should have a function that is sometimes called tuning. See if that improves the picture.

  • Satellite M30 - blank LCD but VGA output is ok

    Hi,
I have a Satalite M30-832, that i got second hand. There is no LCD output, alough the back lites work.
The VGA connector output works fine.
I have reinstalled the graphics drivers and I've replaced the LCD screen, but still no joy.
My question is , if anyone can help,
1: Is this a hardware (graphics chip) or a software problem.
2: Is there any Diagnistic tools on the support disc's.
    Scarub

    Hi Simon
    Ive got one question;
You said that your VGA port is ok.
Did you connect the external monitor to this notebook and did you check if you can switch the display to the external screen?
Please check if your external monitor works ok and if something appears on the second display.
This procedure would be helpful to find out whats exactly wrong with your notebook.
If you would be able to connect the external screen to the notebook and the external monitor would works then your graphic card is not faulty and the issue could be related to a faulty internal TFT notebook screen.
    Best regards

  • P7N Diamond Problem or VGAs Problem, Please help!!!

I have just purchased a P7N DIAMOND Mainboard. I hope it can support me to run 2 Giga 9800 GX2. Unfortunately, there was a problem, and I am not sure whether problem comes from mainboard or the VGAs. The problem was that I pressed the power button to start up the mainboard, but my LCD did not show anything except darkness. I wonder that my mainboard is not ready to support for 2 9800 GX2 at the moment. Therefore, I took one out and left one installed on the motherboard but the problem still occurred. The list below is my specification.
    OS: Windows Vista Ultimate
    Mainboard: MSI P7N DIAMOND
PSU: Cooler Master Real Pro 1000W
    Processor: Dual Quad Q9300
RAM: 2GH OCZ, bus 1066 (Nvidia SLI)
    VGA: 2x9800 GX2 1GH (Gigabyte)
Please help me to solve the problem. Thank in advance.

Sorry for my English. Yes, there were some led lights which indicate that my mainboard was successfully started. The lights in single 9800 GX2 also turned to green. I am pretty sure that I have connected all of the power supply to the mainboard and the VGA. But the mainboard did not show the boot screen or anything else but darkness. Too bad...

  • Mac Mini mid 2011 Mini Dvi to VGA problems

I have a mac mini mid 2011 and I have to connected to a display in work.  The display only has a VGA entrance, so i bought a mini dvi to vga adapter from my local mac store, but when i connected to the display everything looks odd, the whole display has an odd purple look, I have tried to use a different VGA cable but keep having the same problem, I even tried a different display with the same results, anybody knows why this happens and how to fix it?

    Your welcome!
On your end before returning the Adapter,
try > Resetting the System Management Controller
    1. Shut down the computer.
    2. Unplug the computer's power cord.
    3. Wait fifteen seconds.
    4. Attach the computer's power cord.
    5. Wait five seconds, then press the power button to turn on the computer.
and > About NVRAM and PRAM
    1. Shut down the computer.
    2. Locate the following keys on the keyboard: Command, Option, P, and R. You will need to hold these keys down simultaneously in step 4.
    3. Turn on the computer.
    4. Press and hold the Command-Option-P-R keys. You must press this key combination before the gray screen appears.
    5. Hold the keys down until the computer restarts and you hear the startup sound for the second time.
    6. Release the keys.
then if that doesn't help, return the adapter and explain the problem to the Apple tech person at the store.

  • Mini DVI to external monitor (VGA) problem/firmware update does nothing

    Hi,
Four months ago I bought a new white 13-inch Macbook (2006 model I believe) along with a handy mini-DVI - VGA adapter. I used a Hanns-G HU196D external monitor which worked fine for a couple of months but then stopped, and had the same problem with a (much cheaper) 'LiteView' monitor. I find it bizarre how they work absolutely fine and then stop, with no damage to the adapter, cable or ports. I've since bought a new adapter and cables + trying out a different monitor and still the same problem...
I've installed a firmware update that describes the exact symptoms, but it's done nothing. Can anyone help me resolve my issue?? It's still under warranty so is it an unusual problem that'll need to be fixed by Apple?
    Thanks

Are you using the mini DVI to DVI followed by a DVI to VGA adapter? That may not work if the mini DVI to DVI adapter does not pass analog video. If that is the case, you need the mini DVI to VGA adapter:

  • Mini Displayport to VGA problem - not recognizing

    Hi all,
First, thanks for your patience as I am new to these forums and thanks for reading and hopefully helping.
We purchased an apple branded mini DP to VGA adapter about a week ago from an auth. reseller in Prague (US expats). We are using the adapter to watch video from our MacBook Pro on an Epson projector. Everything worked great for about a week and all of a sudden (truly, no software changes, updates, dropped adapters, etc. etc. etc.) it stopped working. By "it" I think I mean the mini DP adapter or the plug itself. The reason I think this is b/c the computer doesn't even recognize when the adapter is plugged in; previously, when plugging ONLY the adapter into the mini DP plug, the screen would flash blue, now - nothing.
I have reset PRAM and the SMC and still no change. I checked when I first purchased the adapter and found that the firmware was indeed up to date.
Any ideas? Hoping for insight before having to deal with the extraordinary language barrier.
    Thanks again.

  • Mini DisplayPort to VGA problem

    Hi, all!
My New MacBook can't work with external display with resolution more then 1360x768 using Mini DisplayPort to VGA connector.
Then I'm setting bigger resolution (for ex. 1920x1080) display shows me picture for a 2-3 seconds, then switches off, and on again.
Tested 3 monitors and one tv.

  • Thunderbolt to VGA problems.

Folks, I just setup two Mac Pro computers (late 2013 cylindrical model) and am having problems on both with Thunderbolt to VGA adapters.  I get a line at the top of the screen that flickers at a constant rhythm of sorts and the desktop doesn't fill the screen.  In fact the dock is pushed a little down  beyond the edge of the screen.
I have two 24" monitors plugged into both computers.  There's no problem with anything plugged in via DVI or HDMI, but it does affect these two brand new out of the box Samsung and HP monitors connected via Thunderbolt to VGA adapters.
I found this link and firmware to try and remedy the problem, but when run it just said it couldn't find a supported MiniDisplay Port to VGA adapter.
    Any ideas folks?

I suspect that the firmware is only applicable to one specific brand of adopter.
I have used Apple mini displayport to VGA adopter on my 2013 Mac Pro without problems for 1080p like your HP monitor.
I suspect a problem with the adopter. However, try resetting the SMC and PRAM
Intel-based Macs: Resetting the System Management Controller (SMC)
    About NVRAM and PRAM
otherwise try another brand adopter. I would try min displayport to either HDMI or DVI if you can get them and get the right cable
