LDAP lost on reboot

Just ran the latest security update on a server and on rebooting. My entire user list is gone.
I have backups but don't really want to restore the entire server. Any idea how to pull back what I need. It seems that the LDAP portion of my server is broken after the update.

  • Per User Crontab lost on reboot

    Hi Guys and Gals;
I noticed starting sometime in the last few months my user crontabs are being lost on reboot. I have checked that they are not on a tmpfs or other volatile drive. I've searched around but can't find anything that would be causing this.
    Any thoughts would be helpful!

If you're feeling adventurous, I'd chattr the crontab files themselves. Perhaps even the entire /var/spool/cron/ directory, if only just before doing an update that you suspect may do this.
If this tactic doesn't have an affect, it'll be strange. Very strange, which we can look into later. It will, however, most likely make the upgrade fail. When this happens you'll at least have a log file that will say which installer/program/thread/whatever failed to make the change. The only other thing that could happen is that after the upgrade you'll see that the files did not change (as expected), and the installer/upgrade completed while keeping your crons.
The downside, of course, is having to remember to unchatter the files before changing crontabs, then chattring them back.

  • N800 os2008 combined: settings lost over reboot, U...

Loaded the combined os2008 onto my n800. Wifi worked (unlike the n800-specific version), lots of other things worked. But there are differences.
    - word choice and word prediction during typing used to be defaulted on; now off. Turn them on, they work fine and still use my saved information from before. Turn n800 off last night, turn it on today, and the settings have all been lost - I had to turn them on again.
    - concern - what other settings are getting lost over reboot?
    - auto capitalization used to UPSHIFT the keyboard to indicate that it was shifting the first letter of a word. not now. caused me problems with a password until i realized i had turned it on along word prediction.

I've got the same thing happening on a newly flashed N800. The settings seem to disappear at random. I haven't been able to discern a pattern yet, but, like you, seem to lose them always over a power cycle.
I've had my N800 three days and seeing your post makes me think I don't have a defective unit. When and how does suspicious new behavior turn into a bug?

  • (SOLVED) Tvheadend: Configuration lost on reboot

    Hello.
I managed to configure Tvheadend on my computer and it works great.
My problem is when the computer restarts: For some reason the settings are lost on reboot and I have to configure everything again every time when I turn the computer on.
I save the changes when the program is configurated but the computer loses the settings at start.
    Please, help me.
Last edited by Belgarath (2013-12-25 23:38:22)

I configured the program from the web interface and I can see the TV channels and the EPG information even from other computers on my network but curiously the program does not create the folder you mention,
I do not know why that folder is not created and I do not know where it saves the data.
The .hts folder does not appear anywhere in my home directory: It is not in ~/.hts  and is not in ~/.config/.hts or similar places.
Should I create  ~/.hts/tvheadend  manually? If so, what should I put in that file?
Excuse me for my deficient english.

  • HKLM Permissions lost after reboot

    Hello All.
I have a need to give the Everyone group full control over the root HKLM hive of the registry. I have used the RegEdit GUI and the regini command to grant full control to the Everyone group for the HKLM Key and Subkeys. However, once I reboot the workstation,
the permissions have reverted back to the original.
The local administrators group is the owner of the HKLM key, and I am logged in as a member of this group when making the permission changes. I have UAC disabled, and have tried regedt32.exe > Run as Administrator and cmd.exe > Run as Administrator,
and I can set and confirm the permission changes with error, but the changes are lost after reboot. No AV is installed.
Does anyone have any clue what I am missing here?
    Thank you in advance!

    Hi,
I cannot repro such issue on my computer. This should be something wrong during restarting or the admin account.
If you have any other admin account, please log on with it and try to grant the permission you would like to see what’s going on.
To make sure that other program reset permission during restarting, please test this issue when booting into Safe mode and let me know the results.
If the issue still persists in safe mode, please help to collect the boot trace for further research.

  • ITunes settings lost after reboot

I have a problem where after a reboot the settings of iTunes are back to default. For example:
    it loses the account for the Store (I have to re-enter email address and password);
it loses the wifi sync settings for my devices
it shows the iTunes tutorials screen, as if I'm starting iTunes for the first time
    settings under preferences are lost
    Other things are not lost:
    the library is still there;
iTunes remembers the devices (when connecting it is handled as a known device) and knows what playlists/apps/.. to sync with it.
Since I'm not rebooting my Windows 7 PC a lot, the problem is not occuring a lot, it doesn't keep me from using iTunes, it is just annoying. Now after rebooting I decided it's enough and I would post the issue (since I can't seem to find a comparable issue).
Also worthwile noticing is that the problem is already there for some time, though I can't exactly pinpoint anymore when it started. Possible when iTunes 9 or 10 were realeased.
    Now I'm using:
Windows 7 64-bit (completly up to date)
    iTunes 10.5.2.11
    Thanks for any help!

  • German umlaute lost after reboot

The strange behaviour is that, after rebooting the linux server where the application is running, german umlaute are lost. If the application is reinstalled umlaute are shown as long as no reboot occurs. There was no problem with this when jre122 was used, problem arised with jre142. The data are read from a mysql database.

It seems that I have solved the problem with the character set. It's not really something that I understand but it works: I have changed the startup script that is used in /etc/init.d/rc5 to start the server. I changed the shell for the script. It was not working when I used #/bin/bash or #/bin/sh but it works when I use #/bin/csh.

  • Brother MFC9840CDW lost when reboot MacBook Pro OS 10.7.4

I have a Brother MFC9840CDW printer and I'm running Mac OS X 10.7.4  Everytime I shutdown and reboot the Macbook Pro loses the wireless printer. (It stills shows the MFC9840CDW as an option, just doesn't stay put as the default printer.) If I plug in a USB wire to the mac and the brother printer, the printer connection is not lost, so it has something to do with the wireless connection.
Anyone else experiencing this problem or have a solution?
I have talked to Brother support with no solution other than to say wire the Mac to the printer.  Apple wants me to bring the printer into the genius bar, but the printer is enomorous and heavy, so that won't be happening.  Every time I fire up my Mac, I have to readd the Brother printer....which is getting really old.

    I have similar problem.
My Brother DCP-J315W will only start printing when I restart my MacBook Pro.
I have to restart for every single thing I want to print.
The only solution I found is sending the document/image to my iPod Touch with iCloud, and printing it using the Brother print and scan app.
This is also the only way I can scan something without directly printing it (also known as copying).

  • Netsh rules lost on reboot

I've created some portforwarding rules on our server.
And they are active while I am logged in.
But when I log off or the server shuts down, the rules get lost.
What is the best way to make those rules shown below permanent ?
    netsh interface portproxy add v4tov4 listenport=5007 connectaddress=192.168.10.80 connectport=5007
    netsh interface portproxy add v4tov4 listenport=873 connectaddress=192.168.10.80 connectport=873
    netsh interface portproxy add v4tov4 listenport=22 connectaddress=192.168.10.70 connectport=22
    netsh interface portproxy add v4tov4 listenport=21 connectaddress=192.168.10.70 connectport=21

Well i find the server 2012 firewall unstabel, i've seen some other posts about it too.
It seams when i logged on and run that cmd file, it keeps the process running a bit longer.
So i just lock my screen as admin on the server.
What i've done now is create scheduled trigger of the script 30 minutes after reboot.
But even then at random moments, a day , a week a month.. it can suddenly quit.
As if the advanced firewall by itself is unstable.
As for today for example suddenly our whole administration department couldnt access their software anymore because server 2012 had lost its mysql firewall rules, bizare.
I wonder maybe there are some vendors who sell an advanced firewall add on, with monitoring
Because i cannot trust Microsoft's stability here, its to much to unstable..

  • Airport WEP keeps getting lost after reboot

Every time I reboot the WEP connection is lost.
How can I set this up so it stays after a reboot and connects automatically?
    Thanks

Delete the WAP from your list of preferred networks and also delete it from your keychain using Keychain Access. Then re-add. I had to do this for bith a WPA and a WPA2 access point. Funny thing is that after upgrading to 10.4.8 it took two days for the WPA account to start misbehaving and another 4 days till the WPA2 one started dropping. Deleting completely and re-adding them fixed it both times.

  • Wireless keyboard name does not stick, connection lost after reboot/restart

I know this topic has been addressed many times but I might have additional info to this.
I tried to rename my wireless keyboard. The name stays as long as I only let the computer sleep.
As soon as I do a restart/reboot and the connection is lost again, it's name is set back to the old name.
This might be related to the reason why it looses it's connection over and over again.
Does anyone know where this "name" is stored? There must be a plist file or something somewhere where the name is kept, maybe that's the file which is corrupt and must be deleted.
I also was wondering if it is possible to "reboot" the keyboard itself, maybe this setting is stored on the keyboard itself and it cannot properly maintain it.. that might be a reason why for some users the keyboard replacement has helped.
    Michael

So, the same problem occurred and in a relatively shorter time than before. I began to think that something is causing this problem.
My theory is that it is a VMWare software issue. What I've been doing differently recently is using it in "Unity" mode as opposed to "Full Screen" mode. My guess is that the program is modifying my wireless permissions and screwing it all up.
So, what I've done is set the "Network Adapter" to "Host-Only". This denies the VMWare program internet access but still allows file sharing between the Windows virtual environment and the Mac hard drive.
Then I had to re-install Mac OS X all over again to fix the wireless settings/permissions mess.

  • Hyper-V 2012 R2 - Linux Guest VLAN Settings lost after reboot

    Hi Guys,
last night a have seen a strange behavior with a Sophos UTM 9.204020 Linux Guest VM. (This VM is based on SUSE SLES v11? i think)
So i have Setup this in my home lab and experienced the same problem.
    ----Setup-----
    2 External VM Switches
Management OS is on VLAN 4093 with IP 192.168.20.1
The guest network adapter is in Trunk Mode, VLAN Tag (4093) is set in the guest OS with IP 192.168.20.100
Everything works until you kick off a reboot from the guest or hyper-v console, after the reboot you loose the connectivity on the network adapter with the vlan trunk.
If you shutdown the guest and start it everthing works again - this happens only on reboot!!
I have tried diffrent things (static mac, enable disable hardware features (vmq/offloading etc) on the vm network adapter but always the same error.
After some search on the net i have found this article: Link
This guy has the same problem with another linux vm (based on debian) his workaround was to trigger a powershell script with the eventlog after reboot of the vm, this works for me too but this must be bug?
Has anyone else experienced this problem?
    André

    Hi Andre,
I would suggest you to install the supported Linux guest OS on hyper-v , please refer to following link:

  • Xfce4 Settings lost on reboot

Settings that I make for the the Panel such as Size/Position and launchers are not saved after a reboot, also settings made for Xterm are not saved.
I'm asuming these settings are simply saved in some file in my home directory?
So I'm not sure what could be going on here?

have you tried saving the session when you shutdown
you can try creating ~/.Xdefaults for xterm, like this for example.....
    ! xterm ----------------------------------------------------------------------
    xterm*geometry:           82x20
    xterm*faceName:           terminusbold:pixelsize=14
    !xterm*font:             -*-dina-medium-r-*-*-16-*-*-*-*-*-*-*
    xterm*dynamicColors:      true
    xterm*utf8:               2
    xterm*eightBitInput:      true
    xterm*saveLines:          512
    xterm*scrollTtyKeypress:  true
    xterm*scrollTtyOutput:    false
    xterm*scrollBar:          true
    xterm*rightScrollBar:     true
    xterm*loginShell:         true
    xterm*jumpScroll:         true
    xterm*multiScroll:        true
